There's an Italian restaurant here that has a table next to a curtain, and I got to sit there this time, yay!

There was a random alcove behind the curtain..maybe it was hiding Narnia LOL

Recently mom and I went to a geocaching picnic (we hadn't been caching since going to Puerto Rico last October!), which was held at the Sons of Norway Lodge. I've been taking Norwegian on Duolingo for a couple years at least, and was hoping to find something there I'd be able to translate. I perused their cool bookshelf and found a copy of All the Light We Cannot See in Norwegian, which I thought was super cool! I could even translate a little bit of it, which impressed mom and made me feel smart LOL. Norsk er kult! I'm almost at 1000 geocaches too, exciting!

The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton (Sept 30-Oct 5). I left before the last book club meeting, I'm excited to see what everyone thought of the ending!

A Ghost of Caribou by Alice Henderson (Oct 6-8)

Murder on the Titanic by Jim Walker (Oct 10-16). Will I ever get tired of reading about the Titanic? (A novel, but still lol)

Adrift: A True Story of Love, Loss, and Survival at Sea by Tami Oldham Ashcraft (Oct 17-18)

Velocity Weapon by Megan E. O'Keefe (Oct 19-29). I would have enjoyed this even if it hadn't mentioned Caja de Muertos..I liked the humor in it lol. I happily bought the second in the series after I finished it! (Hopefully I'll get a pic of the island today!)

On Monday, we had Thanksgiving dinner with Jo's family, since we're going to be in Alaska then. I finally got to meet Jo's dad (Malbert)! (His parents are divorced, but are still good acquaintances.) He was nice! Most everyone arrived early and hung out and talked, which made me sad I couldn't talk to them too..kinda felt like an outsider. I especially wanted Camilla to like me, but whenever I tried talking to her she seemed shy or confused. Dinner was turkey with meat stuffing, rice, macaroni salad, and breadrolls (Ryan had to supply veggies, because I guess that's not common here). We also celebrated Malbert's birthday and had cake and milkshakes for dessert. Camilla and another kid named Tiomi were drawing and doing crafts, and all of a sudden both of them started talking to me, excitedly talking about their crafts. Camilla spoke just enough English, and me just enough Spanish to get by (Tiomi is from Boston and bilingual, so she helped too). If I messed up my Spanish, Camilla thought it was silly (but not in a mean way) and was super excited when I got it right. It was weird how suddenly she wasn't shy anymore! We had fun coloring (I called what I was using a marker, and Tiomi was like "no, it's a HIGHLIGHTER!" haha) and just being silly, and suddenly Tiomi said "I'm having so much fun with you!!" Awwww, that made me so happy! They must have read my mind, because that's exactly what I've been looking for. Tiomi also asked me why I wore glasses and why my eyes are so small haha..I'm not sure she understood me explaining ptosis, but I tried lol. It was a really fun night!

Yesterday Ryan had an appointment to get a tattoo in San Juan, so we drove there for the day. We hung out a mall until his appointment, dropped him off, then went to another mall to go to a bookstore there. That mall was HUGE, possibly the biggest mall I've been to (three stories! It's the biggest mall in the Caribbean). Malls in the US might be dying, but not in Puerto Rico..there were lots of people! The bookstore had a section for books in English, and bought a couple. After that we went to Old San Juan. It's a really cool historical place, and there were stray cats EVERYWHERE!! I've seen some in the various places we've gone to, but this place was teeming with them! The first cat I saw was very friendly (it blinked slowly at me, so I knew it was ok), and enjoyed being pet by me..when I stopped it meowed at me, like it was saying "don't stop!!" Not all the cats were friendly, but I still loved seeing them (mom was annoyed I kept trying to pet every cat I saw LOL). Later I read the cats are famous descendants from the cats the Spaniards brought with them 500 years ago. I'd visit just to pet the cats all day LOL. We walked past the original city wall and fountains and stuff..it was 91 degrees though, too hot for me! We ate a late lunch, looked in shops, and finally found a couple geocaches! (There aren't many in Ponce.) There's also a castle fort thing, but it was too hot to walk over to it..we'll just have to come back (and pet more kitties!! Hehe). We also went to a pigeon park, where on the weekends you can buy food and feed them. Some of those poor things were so fat they could barely walk. :( Eventually it got dark and we were tired, so we just drove back to the tattoo studio and waited for Ryan to be done. He got a raven with a graveyard in the background..it's super detailed and cool. He got done late, so we missed the pumpkin carving and food at Carmen's house. The house is now decorated for Christmas haha. It was really nice to go to bed after that long day!

Today we went up to this overlook where there's a castle (really a fancy house), Japanese gardens and where you can see Caja de Muertos, but it was hazy and everything was closed, so I think we're going back tomorrow. It's nice to just chill for awhile now :P

30 – Haunted Refrigerator Night: Sometimes you forget about certain things that are in your fridge. And while you may have forgotten about them, they certainly haven't forgotten about you. Instead, they sit lurking in the back of the refrigerator waiting for you to delve into its darkest corners and unleash the disgusting rotten mess that lurks within those Tupperware sarcophagi. Is there anything lurking in the deepest recesses of your fridge that you're afraid to look at or deal with? LOL. No, my fridge got cleaned out before I left lol

31 – Magic Day: Have you ever seen magic performed live? Have you ever tried to learn a few tricks yourself? I think so. No

November 2023
1 – Extra Mile Day: When was the last time you went the extra mile for someone, or someone went the extra mile for you? Tell us about it. Maybe yesterday..I got a cold drink after our long day, but we had to to a mall to get it..Jo definitely goes out of his way to care for people!

New setup!

I finally got my Mac Mini and new desktop screen set up!
356637737_24218280674437093_895475413249046667_n
Importing the data from my old computer took FOREVER (note to self: next time use an Ethernet cable)..I was happy when I came home from work and saw it had finished lol. I don't really NEED a screen quite that big, but mom had an extra one, so I might as well use it if she's not (cheaper than buying another one too :P). My other computer was from, like..2014 LOL, so it was definitely time for an upgrade (I have a newer laptop, but I just leave it at my parents' house)

It's been a year since I had covid and had my life turned upside-down..I hope I never have to go through that again. D: Amazingly, neither of my parents (that they know of) have had covid yet..lucky!! It does help my mood to be at work again, though I still get very tired..I hope the sleep study results come back soon..

Check out how awesome the geocaching solstice souvenir is!

I love the design!! Definitely made our hard work worth it lol

1. What do you eat when you need something hot and heavy? Chicken parmesan, burgers, etc
2. When did you last go to bed with something edible? A month or so ago?
3. What’s an enjoyable meal that requires you to get busy? Chili
4. With which dining establishment do you think you could go steady, at least until the end of the year? Gallo's?
5. With which snack would you like to have a summer fling? A milkshake or smoothie?

In celebration of the solstice, if you find 21 geocaches between June 18-24 you get a digital souvenir! Mom and I have been busy finding caches, and only need three more! Yesterday it was SO humid though, and today it's pretty hot, and all the mosquitoes are out..I got like 5 bites today haha. It'll be cool to get the souvenir though, we've definitely earned it (well, almost :P)

Here's a funny story..earlier in the week at work Adam comes to the back looking for The Narrows by Michael Connelly, which I didn't find. Yesterday I saw on Facebook Adam's post (from a few days ago) for the building-wide sale we're having tomorrow, and someone commented "Are the narrows on sale?" and Adam said no, but we have other Michael Connelly books. Then the person commented "That is just too funny! I was referring to your building- wide sales. I should have read my question before posting. Are you having building-narrow sales?" I was really confused for like a minute and then I was like "OHHHHH omg that is hilarious!!" Adam and I were both very amused..we should have a building-narrow sale next LOL. Funnily enough, I did find The Narrows by Michael Connelly yesterday..I will always think of this when I see that book now :P

On Saturday mom and I flew to Florida..we had a layover at DFW, which is always SO WEIRD. That airport has completely changed..it's plush and modern now! I didn't recognize much flying in, except the general Texas feel haha. Teresa and Ron picked us up in Tampa and drove us to grandpa's house in Crystal River (80 some miles away). Grandpa goes to bed super early (it used to be 9, but it's between 7-7:30 now!!), so we didn't see him that night. Mom and I just wanted to go to bed after traveling anyway :P

Yesterday after everyone was gathered we took Theresa and Ron's dog Reece for a walk..it was pretty hot, even though it was relatively early. Grandpa came down the street on his 1929 Model A and gave me a ride back to his house! So cool!
345257954_652503553377216_4200426025001584494_n
After that we drove down to the ocean and stood on the boardwalk for awhile, and found a geocache on the way back, which had a $2 bill in it!! Cool! I love that Teresa and Ron like geocaching, because none of my other family members really do. I love how easygoing they've always been..if their daughter Stephanie was like "can we go to McDonald's?" Teresa would say "absolutely!" with no hesitation. We took a selfie after we found the cache:
346030686_751492039787737_1148147415536649392_n
Mom, Teresa, me, Ron

Then we went back to grandpa's house, had dinner, and went to Teresa and Ron's motorhome to hang out after grandpa went to bed (they're staying at a campground a few miles from grandpa's house). They have a pretty nice setup! After that mom and I went back to grandpa's house and went to bed

Today Ron took us to a trail that led to the Withlacoochee River (and found a couple geocaches in the area). It was SO, SO hot (high 80s) and wasn't enjoying myself at all. We only got halfway before we had to turn around, because I was completely miserable and overheating. We did find a place to park to see the river, which was clear and beautiful. I REALLY needed something cool to drink, so we went to Wal-Mart and I got a lemonade and some cooler pants. Ron drove me back to grandpa's house because I was tired and hot and DONE (everyone else went back to Ron's motorhome for a couple hours). I laid in bed under the fan and rested. I could never live in Florida, the heat and humidity are AWFUL, and I keep seeing "Trump 2024" flags and stuff..blech. Seeing family is nice, but I can't wait get out of this state on Wednesday. We had dinner after everyone got back, hung out, and then Teresa and Ron left for the night. Amazingly, grandpa stayed up until after 10 tonight!! Having people around probably helps lol..I hope he's not tired tomorrow though :P

We made it to Kansas yesterday! The mountains were cool leaving Santa Fe, which eventually turned into fields..lots and lots of fields. a lot of the little towns we passed through were so depressing..so many things boarded up and deserted and sad looking. Probably the only things keeping them alive are cows and/or grain production. Part of the drive crosses into Oklahoma, so mom and I got our first Oklahoma geocache, yay! In the early afternoon we saw clouds building up, and watched them for hours..one cloud on the right anviled out, which was interesting. Eventually, around 7 or 8 something, we drove into the storm. The lightning was really fun to watch, especially after driving past fields for hours. Mom was watching the radar, and the storm that we saw had an anvil had a "hook echo," meaning a tornado has probably formed. Indeed, we read later law enforcement confirmed a tornado on the ground in Strong City (east of where we were) with baseball sized hail..wow. Crazy we all saw that cloud build up for hours! We had to rush to get everything out of the car once we got to Julie's because of the storm. It was nice to get out of the car though, phew! Definitely a long drive. :P We hung out some and then went to bed..there was another storm at 2 in the morning..I had to check the radar to made sure a tornado wasn't coming LOL

Today we got up late and hung out (Julie and Kerry had to work) and then visited grandma! We sat at dinner with her which was..awkward, because the other poor people at the table seemed all "not there." The residents kept doing odd things, and eventually mom was like "we have to go and help Joelle make dinner!" Cindy was SO relived because it was just so uncomfortable..those poor people. :( We had dinner and now we're just relaxing. Hopefully no storms will wake me up tonight :P

19 – Banana Day: Are you a fan of bananas? In your opinion, what is the best way to eat bananas? I am not

20 – Volunteer Recognition Day: Do you do any volunteer work? Do you belong to any organizations or use any services that are very dependent on volunteers, even if you don't do any volunteering yourself? In some places, students are required to do some volunteer work for school credits. Do you think this is a good idea? Not right now, but Forgot-Me-Not Books is very dependent on volunteers. Sure, it helps them learn responsibility and a little what it's like to work

So far in Anchorage, I've gone to bookstores, gone out to eat, geocached (mom and I have found 11 so far. There's also been a bunch we couldn't find, ugh), hung out at the airb&b (I was disappointed in my "normal" bed LOL, I'm spoiled now :P), and yesterday I went with Ryan and mom to Flattop Mountain to find blueberries (there are some pretty fancy houses in that area haha). I'd never been up there before! We didn't find a lot of blueberries, but the scenery was nice. It has sprinkled/rained every day so far, but we've still had fun lol

One of Jo's friends (Rachel) has been checking on the cats every day (unsurprisingly, Abby yells at them when they come over LOL), and today they found Greyboy dead. :( :( :( He had gotten SO skinny and wasn't eating, so we we warned Rachel he could die while we were away. I hope he died peacefully. I definitely didn't expect Abby to outlive Greyboy, wow (I think he was around 14 or so? We had him since 2011). He had a great cozy life though..I'll miss his weird meow and his soft fur and snuggling with him purring while watching TV. Hannah got him cremated and a cast of his paw print. Greyboy was such a sweet cat and will definitely missed <3

13. If you had to tattoo your arm with a message to yourself, what would you write? "Go out and explore," maybe with a penguin..I've thought about getting that on my ankle lol

14. If you could earn the same pay no matter what job you did, would you pursue another profession? If so, what would you choose, and why? I don't think so, I like working with books and I'm good at it lol

15. Would you be happier with more control over what happens in your life or more control over your response to what happens? Hmm..maybe my response..that makes things easier too haha

16. If you were a role model to millions of children who closely followed you and your life choices, how would you change your behavior? I'd probably have to eat better and be less lazy :P

17. Do you squeeze the toothpaste tube or roll it? What’s the advantage of your method? I squeeze it..I just like that way better lol
glacier_kitty: (Default)
Today mom and I drove to Denali today, because why not. :P We found some geocaches, went shopping, had yummy pizza, and drove to the Savage River hiking trail. We saw two caribou, one of which had a huge rack! Both of them crossed the road right in front of our car, which was super cool! We didn't do the whole trail because we thought we had to get back in time to take dad to the airport, but it was still nice listening to the river (we saw one of the caribou again on the way back!). We got ice cream and then drove back to Fairbanks..we weren't going to get any geocaches because we didn't think we'd have time, until dad called us and said the flight was canceled! We laughed at our now unnecessary rushing and then found two more caches haha..we found seven in all, yay! Fun, but tiring :P

some pics! )

30. Do you mostly do specific chores on specific days each week (e.g. groceries on Saturday, laundry on Wednesday, etc.)? Yeah, I usually do laundry on Saturday, and grocery shopping on Sunday. Other chores wait till I have the spoons to do them lol
glacier_kitty: (Default)
The storm last night cooled down the temperature somewhat..it might have been too cold for other Kansans, but I thought it felt AWESOME haha. We went walking in the courtyard when we visited grandma, and found some rocking chairs to sit in lol

They have a nice courtyard! We saw a red-tailed hawk fly by too! (Grandma loves birds, which I hadn't known, so she was very happy and said "thanks for visiting us!" hehe)

My bed has curtains, grandma's has a hat :P

We also went to Barnes and Noble (why not :P) and I found a couple geocaches. Tomorrow we're driving back to Kansas City (we'll visit grandma again before we leave) and mom and I are staying overnight (it's easier for everyone, I think), and then leaving Tuesday afternoon to go back to Alaska. That was a fast trip! It was nice seeing everyone again, and maybe now I can visit more often since Kansas is closer than England haha

24. Do you prefer popular music or relatively unknown music? )
glacier_kitty: (Default)
On Wednesday, I woke up to a clear blue day! My Weather Wizardry strikes again. :P I saw Denali in the distance (when you fly direct to Seattle, you skirt around the Alaska Range) and the mountains just looked so nice. <3 I did see some pretty cool glaciers too! On the flights I watched Underwater and Mary Queen of Scots (I was four-poster bed hunting LOL). It was 11 something I think when I landed at Kansas City, and mom and Aunt Cindy picked us up..it usually only takes like an hour to get to Topeka, but it took longer because it was pretty foggy. Even though it was like 1 AM when I got to the house, I took a shower anyway, because flying is gross :P

Thursday I saw Julie and Dean, and their pets..Julie has two cats (Yoda and Beano) and two dogs (Teddy and Lucy). Cindy and Dean have a dog named Blanca (I met her before though). Lots of animals to pet!! Haha. Yoda is a beautiful tuxedo cat..it took her a few moments to warm up to me, which surprised Julie because it usually takes her longer (for mom it took like a day or two). Beano was much more skittish, so I was very surprised when later that night he jumped up onto the couch and demanded me to pet her haha, and was kneading a blanket next to me. Cats know I love them LOL. I visited grandma at the assisted care facility she lives at, which is a really nice place! Her room is spacious (she has a little four-poster bed, though without the top part..I joked that we should get her tiny curtains LOL) and the people who work there are really nice. Grandma said she's very happy being in the US again lol, and was happy to see me too. I think this was the day we went to Olive Garden, yummm

Yesterday we visited grandma again, but didn't do much else that was exciting. It was pretty windy though. Today we went downtown and went to a bookstore and a couple thrift shops (I got a cool lamp with ships on the lampshade!). Mom and I found a geocache, and almost got blown away by the wind!! It literally pushed you around if you weren't standing firmly! We went to Chipotle for lunch, then got supplies and food and stuff for grandma's party (her birthday is tomorrow, but Julie has to go to Colorado tomorrow, so we did the party today) and decorated a room at the care home. Aunt Gina drove up from Wichita, and then it was time to party! We had sandwiches, cupcakes, mimosas, and a LOT of laughter haha. There was also a thunderstorm that came by! It was fun, but tiring. It was great seeing grandma having so much fun though :D

some pics! )

20. What do a lot of people have very strong opinions about, even though they know very little about it? Politics?

21. Who in your life is the worst at using technology? Dad, grandma, etc

22. What was the biggest realization you had about yourself? Learning I was asexual, for one

23. What memory of yours feels real but is most likely false? I've wondered if my memory of me swinging and one of my parents telling me to comb my hair and me saying "no!" was actually a dream..
glacier_kitty: (Default)
Yesterday we didn't do anything too exciting, except for shopping and going to dinner. Today we planned to go to Mexico..everyone was comparing their terrible passport pictures, and when I went to show mine..my passport wasn't in my bag!! I must have taken it out at home for whatever reason and forgot to put it back in..I felt so dumb I hadn't checked before I left home! Everyone didn't want to go without me, but I told them to anyway (and get me a shirt), I didn't want my mistake to stop everyone else from going! (They only wanted to go for a couple hours anyway.) I hung out at the B&B and when they got back, mom said I wouldn't have liked it..everyone was in your face selling stuff (especially if you looked interested) and even followed mom begging her to buy stuff. Yikes, no thanks, that sounds so stressful! She got me a shirt, but had to keep haggling to get a reasonable price. I'm glad I didn't miss much lol (Jo had to stay overnight in Mexico because the border closes at 2, and the dentist would have been able to work on him longer without worrying about having to cross the border in time)

After that mom and I finally found a geocache (hard when you're busy and the only cachers in the group lol) and went to the Yuma Territorial Prison museum. It was interesting, though weird to think about who was in all those cells years ago (it opened on July 1, 1876, and shut down on September 15, 1909). The women imprisoned there were QUITE interesting lol, like the one who "stabbed her unfaithful lover, then cut open his chest, pulled out his heart, and threw the bloody mass at his face." OMG lol. There was the "Dark Cell," where prisoners were placed in a cage in solitary confinement, with no bathroom facilities or anything..it still smelled weird in there!! When Ryan turned his phone's flashlight on, we saw a few bats flying around and hanging from the ceiling! I thought it was cool they used to have a library with 2,000 books! The prison is supposed to be haunted too, but I didn't see any ghosts. :P After that we went to Barnes and Noble for a bit (why not :P)..amazingly, they had a copy of The Worst Journey in the World!! I already have that edition, but I was still very pleased (I've never seen a copy of it at the Fairbanks Barnes and Noble). I wrote a short note saying how much the book changed my life and stuff at put it in the book, maybe it'll inspire someone to read it! Then we went back to the B&B, had dinner, and played more Betrayal haha

We were originally going to stay another night at the B&B tomorrow, but our flight back to Alaska leaves at 7 something, and we'd have to get up at 3 something to make the flight. NONE of us wanted to do that, so we're going to drive back to Phoenix tomorrow after Jo gets done at the dentist. We'll still have to get up early, but we'll get a couple more hours' sleep at least. :P I'll miss the awesome four-poster bed lol, I must have one!! :P

a few pics )

13. Is there someone you pretend to like but you really don't like? Hmm..I suppose so..

14. Have you ever raked leaves, and then played in them? I've raked leaves, but I'm not sure if I've played in them..maybe as a kid lol
glacier_kitty: (Default)
On Friday, we drove to Anchorage..it was beautiful and sunny the whole way!! It was so nice to see the mountains again, shining in the sun. We got to Anchorage just in time to watch Scott's game (same team as Thursday, but they lost this time. You can definitely see how experienced Scott is after five years of playing for Irvine). For dinner we went to Outback Steakhouse, and Dairy Queen for dessert. I love going to restaurants Fairbanks doesn't have, but I hate that you usually have to wait for a table, even if you go early..in Fairbanks, you pretty much never have to wait. After that we went back to the Airbnb, which is nice..I LOVE my bed, it's so comfortable and soft haha. I had to unplug the scent diffuser things they had on though, they were overwhelming to my senses :P

Yesterday was another gorgeous sunny day! We had breakfast and went to get our first covid vaccine (Moderna)! Jo was like "STICK IT IN ME!!" haha..everyone's ready for normalcy. :P It went fine (we'll have to get the second one 28 days later in Fairbanks), and then I spent two or three great hours at Title Wave Books, where I bought too many books. :P We went to Moose's Tooth next, a pizza place..I've always heard how good they are, but never went there until yesterday..I got the chicken parmesan pizza, which was pretty good! Then we went back to the b&b, where a couple of Jo's friends that happened to be in town too came over, and we drank sangria and played a couple board games. It was fun, though one of them was too loud for me lol, and we stayed up way too late, especially since Daylight Savings stole an hour from us. :P The arms where we got our shots were pretty sore by now, but if that's the worst of the symptoms, I'll take that over feeling sick lol (I'm sure carrying a heavy basket of books for three hours didn't help either haha)

I was so tired when I woke up today lol. It was cloudy too, darn. :P We got cinnamon rolls for breakfast and went to a couple malls..we tried to find a couple geocaches, but no luck (my app was being weird for some reason). After the second mall Jo wasn't really feeling well (our arms were still sore too), so we had lunch at Olive Garden (mmmmm breadsticks) and went back to the b&b, where I had a nice nap and watched TV for awhile, then went to get ice cream for dessert (yikes, good thing I don't come to Anchorage very often LOL), and finally successfully found a geocache! Now we're relaxing again. Tomorrow we drive home..these getaways always go by too fast! Fun though, and much needed!

pics from the drive! )

12. Where would you like to spend the most time? Places I like lol

13. Do you work harder with or without supervision? Without, I'm very self-conscious if someone is watching me

14. Are details more your thing or do you prefer focusing on the big picture? Both lol
glacier_kitty: (Default)
1. In what forms of housing have you resided? Apartments and houses
2. What are the best and worst things about the location of your home? Best: walking distance to a lot of places, like work and the doctor's office. Worst: hearing the inebriated people fighting, hearing all the traffic..
3. Where would you keep a second home if you could have one? Maybe in the mountains somewhere
4. How well would you adapt to permanent RV life? It would be cool to see lots of interesting places, but I'd miss "regular" showers, a bigger living space, etc
5. What’s the prettiest thing to look at within five miles of your residence? Flowers people have planted, the river and hills in the background, etc

Here's something crazy..a couple days ago I logged a geocache I found, and went to look at the logs on my cache that people have found, and the last person to find it had posted a picture of her and two others..I love when people do that and look like they're having fun! I wondered if I'd ever seen them, and today a lady came in at work wearing a geocaching mask (cool!), and we told each other our caching names and I said I had one down the street, and she was like "oh yeah, I found that one the other day!" It was the lady from the picture!! How crazy and cool is that?? I love how caching brings people together lol (especially in a smaller community like Fairbanks)

I can't believe how fast August has gone..it seems like it just started! Every year seems to go by faster than the last..

On Saturday we went to the Monet exhibit at the Denver Art Museum..mom still wasn't feeling the greatest, but she went anyway. Denver (downtown at least) was not what I was expecting..there were so many homeless people! It was really sad to see that. Monet's paintings are nice, but there were so many of them..they gave you a device you could listen to as you went along, but I thought it was boring, and I really didn't want to spend five minutes looking at one painting. But we got through it, though sadly Gina had to drive back to Kansas after that for work. The rest of us went to this bookstore that also had records, an arcade, a cafe, etc. It was interesting, but hard to look at books because the lighting was terrible in certain places, random equipment was set in front of some shelves, and books were just piled on the floor..I still found some cool books though. Joelle, who is 16, insisted we go to a sex shop, which was interesting LOL. We also went to Voodoo Donuts..I'd heard about them, but I didn't think they were THAT good lol. Jessalyn was craving Korean food, and insisted we go to one when we got back to Loveland (an hour away). I didn't really NEED to eat more food, but went anyway LOL. Jessalyn was very pleased about cooking her meal and satisfying her craving haha. Then we went back to the house..the wind was HOWLING, it was crazy! Cindy called Gina to check on her, and Gina said she saw a meteor fall from the sky and land on the ground, and when she passed the spot where it landed she saw embers on the ground! How awesome is that?? I bet not a lot of people can say that! Then we packed and went to bed (and listened to the crazy howling wind)

Yesterday we all had to leave. *sniff* Mom and I had to get up SUPER early, around 6:15, to drive back to Denver..ugh. Mom thought she had a fever, and I was feeling "throaty" too..probably from flying with a bunch of sick people. Plus I just feel awful getting up that early anyway..bleh. Only Julie and Kerry were awake to say bye too, but we didn't want to wake the others up or get them sick..I think they understood, but I felt guilty anyway. :P The sunrise looked so weird over the flat landscape (the mountains were on the opposite side, and were really pretty!). We grabbed two geocaches on the way to the airport (easy when they're RIGHT THERE at the gas station :P). We only had two flights this time, and no long layovers, which was good, because we just wanted to get home lol. I watched the rest of Into the Storm (and had tornado nightmares last night :P), the new Lion King (stick with the original) and most of Ad Astra. I was on the wrong side for the best glacier view, but I did see one, its moraines covered with snow, so yay. :P The top of Mt. Deborah looked really pretty poking out of the clouds in the sunset. It was -35 in Fairbanks, oh YAY LOL. Mom and I were so happy to get home though, and the cats were happy to see us too. <3 I almost made it to 9, but just had to go to bed..I think I slept for 11 hours! It was definitely needed though. I hope the others can visit us, but I don't think I quite convinced them yet :P

4. What one thing are you looking forward to in 2020? I don't really have anything else planned right now, but hopefully traveling somewhere cool?

5. What’s your favorite way to spend a Sunday morning? Reading, going online and eating breakfast (mom and I usually have pancakes lol)

6. Tell about an “Aha!” moment you’ve had. Paulette teaching me how to count back change, when it didn't make sense to me before

Dec. 31: Mom and I boarded the plane to Anchorage at 5 something..even though the flight was less than an hour, I still felt gross. We had a few hours to kill in Anchorage, so we hung out at the lounge upstairs (mom and Dana both have slept there lol) and had dinner. Even though it was dark when we landed, I could see there was no snow on the ground. A couple hours later we looked out the window and it was snowing like crazy haha..wow. Eventually we boarded the plane to Seattle at 9 or 10 something..I tried sleeping for like an hour, but it's just too hard and uncomfortable, so I gave up and watched Into the Storm instead. The flight attendants didn't do anything special for the New Year, but I'm sure they didn't want to bother the other people who were trying to rest

Jan. 1: We got to Seattle at 3 something in the morning..ewww. There were people everywhere just sacked out on the floor and chairs and stuff..unless I was in a secluded quiet place, I don't think I could do that. We had another long layover there, but we just had to hang out until everything opened (I felt SO bad for the poor people that had to be there at 4:30 D:). At the place we had breakfast (I felt like I was constantly eating haha) they played modern songs like "Umbrella" and "Can't Feel My Face"..and then they played "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" by Celine Dion?!? Oh my goodness, that was one of my favorite songs of hers when I was a kid! I don't know if I've ever heard that song in public (if so, it was in the 90s LOL), but it made me really happy and nostalgic! We left for Denver at maybe 6 or 7 something..I had a whole row to myself, so I could actually lay down and sleep somewhat better! I tried watching the rest of Into the Storm, but I couldn't find it! Maybe that flight didn't have it?? Weird. We finally got into Denver a couple hours later, but we still had to drive the 40 or so miles to where we're staying, Loveland. We were so tired lol. Even though we traveled the farthest, we were still the first ones at the house we're staying at. We needed a nap anyway lol. Eventually Aunt Cindy, Uncle Dean, Aunt Gina, Aunt Julie, her husband Kerry (I'd never met him before!) and her kids Joelle and Jessalyn showed up (Jordan actually has a house in a nearby town, so he's not staying with us). It was so nice to see everybody again! We stayed up late talking and then went to bed, which was awesome LOL

Jan. 2: Happy birthday, Apsley Cherry-Garrard!! <3 The bridal party were doing a bunch of fun things, so the rest of us hung out and were lazy haha. We had told everyone about geocaching, so eventually mom and I went to find some caches with Gina. She'd never done it before, and she LOVED it haha. We found five, yay! After that we went to a used bookstore, where of course I found too many books, and Gina payed for all of them as a Christmas present! Aww, how nice lol. After that we went back to the house, and hung out more and ordered Thai food..yumm. Julie and the others eventually came home..they were talking about the prayer things they were going to say, and someone suggested that she should rap them..and she DID, with Joelle tapping out a beat on the table. It was AWESOME and SO funny. I love that even though she's pretty religious, she has a great sense of humor about it as well (that's something I liked about Paulette too). We also watched this hilarious video of this Irish kid trying to convince her mom to let her go to the pub ("but I'm SIX!!!" *holds fingers up*) And then it was time for bed..yay :P

Today, Jan. 3: Wedding day! We Facetimed grandma for a little bit..I bet she was sad she couldn't come. :( When mom and I saw how nicely dressed and gorgeous everyone else looked, we just looked at each other and cringed. We weren't casual or anything, just..Plain Old Alaskans LOL. The wedding was at a church (Julie and her kids are Catholic)..I finally got to see Jordan, yay! I'm glad he remembered me. :P His bride Sara was absolutely gorgeous. They did Mass (I think that's what it was) as part of the wedding, which was a little tedious, but interesting (I didn't know they bowed as much as they did!). Julie's ex-husband and Jordan's birth father was there, which must have been really awkward..he's not really a nice person, and showed up to rehearsals yesterday drunk..eesh. Jordan and Sara looked completely shocked when they were pronounced man and wife haha. The other people stood around in the church and talked, but me and the others had to drive the 30 minutes back to Loveland (the wedding was in Longmont) to go to the venue and set up everything. We had like an hour and a half, which was just enough time, phew. By this time me and the others were starving haha. I finally got to meet Sara..I couldn't have said something normal like "hi, I'm Heather, nice to meet you!"..noo, I said "I've been waiting to meet you for hours!" *cringe* She was nice though, and Jordan thanked us for coming so far from home. We had food and cake and then it was time for dancing. Mom and I were just like "mehh" haha (especially since mom wasn't feeling well), but I had to go up when the Macarena came on! (The glass of champagne I had helped too LOL.) I had to teach Gina how to do it haha. I didn't know the moves to the other songs though, and I feel like I'd look stupid compared to everyone else, so I didn't go back, even though it looked kinda fun. After an hour or two of that mom and I were bored and tired of the loud craziness, so we left..yeah, we're lame LOL. I'd much rather be sitting here in my PJs (sorry Jordan :P). It's nice to relax after a long day. :) I took a couple pics, but my phone's battery is lame and died early, so maybe the others can send me theirs, so I'll wait to post them

Tomorrow we're going to Denver to see an exhibition of Monet's art..Cindy is very into art, otherwise I wouldn't really care lol. Maybe we'll go out to eat at a nice restaurant too ;)

a shiny new 366 day meme, yay! )

Woohoo, I found my 900th geocache today!! (Sorry about the lame sign though. :P) It'll be super cool to get to 1000 next :D

Yesterday mom *insisted* I go to Bingo with her and her boss, so I did..it definitely felt super weird because most of the people there were older than me lol, but it was still fun. I came close to winning on a couple games, but others got there before me. I also tried Pull Tabs for the first time..you buy a bunch of cards and pull off the tabs to see if you won anything..I won $2.00! I could have kept playing, but that was good enough for me haha (mom's boss said I'm corrupted now LOL). I was SO tired at the end after staring at numbers for two hours, and even had a dream about dabbing Bingo cards haha!

And OMG THIS!

Ahhh they recently dived the Terror with a robot and took this awesome video!!! I got CHILLS when they shined the light into Crozier's cabin..wowwww. And there might even be salvageable documents in his desk?!? Oh man, I'm jealous of whoever gets to do that. Amazing how well preserved it is! Dad actually called me just to ask if I had seen this yet, Christine from Juneau posted it on my wall, and because I'm a member of Remembering the Franklin Expedition, my Facebook is blowing up with Franklin news haha. So cool!

Day 237-240 )

Today's trivia: Henry Knox, America's first secretary of war, did most of his training in a bookstore

It is..REALLY weird being 30 years old now. O_o I remember turning 20 was weird, but 30 is even weirder haha. It was another nice day as we drove up to Portage Glacier..I think that was at least my fourth time taking the boat out to the glacier (it has definitely changed since I was first there in 2009!). What better way to celebrate than standing in front of a glacier? I love that feeling lol. Portage is actually a pretty small glacier, but still looks big when you're up close (the face of it is actually half a mile wide!). Whoever named some of the glaciers around that area must have liked poetry, because three of them are named Byron, Shakespeare and Burns haha. It never seems like we spend long enough at the glaciers when I do those kind of cruises, but they have other cruises to do as well. :P It was lovely staring at the pretty blue ice though. <3 It didn't calve this time, but it's not really as active as other glaciers. As we walked into the visitor center, there was a geocache RIGHT THERE! It kinda felt like cheating signing the log since we didn't have to search for it lol. After we got back to Anchorage I went to Title Wave Books! I have little space left in my bags from all the books I've bought, so I was determined to only buy one or two..yeahh that didn't happen. :P I have little control in bookstores LOL. Somehow I'll find room. :P They had THREE copies of The Worst Journey in the World!! I had those editions, but I always love seeing Cherry's book :D (mom was like "phew! I was worried you'd buy every copy you'd come across!" haha). After having fun there, we found some geocaches and then had dinner at Olive Garden! Mmmm four cheese ziti and breadsticks. Someone needs to build an Olive Garden in Fairbanks already! After that we found a couple more caches and headed back to the room. 30th birthday successful! :D

Tomorrow we fly back to Fairbanks..I'll miss the glaciers, but I'm tired and ready to go home lol. It was a great glacier-filled vacation though :D

On Monday mom and I flew to Juneau..we had to get up really early, ugh..but at least we were rewarded with Denali again haha. We didn't have a window seat to Juneau, but we do on the way back. It was raining when we landed, but it's still beautiful even in the rain. After we got our rental car we drove to the bed and breakfast we're staying at..it's only like five minutes away from Mendenhall Glacier..I love all the random places around town where you can spot it, it always gives me butterflies. :D After settling in and meeting our nice host we thought we might as well drive to the glacier haha ("the glaciers are calling and I must go" :P). It has retreated some since I last saw it (up close) in 2012, aww. :( There were SO MANY PEOPLE..OMG. I'm sure there were over 10 tour buses there..the visitor center was so packed you could hardly move..ugh. I later learned there were FIVE cruise ships in town..OMG. D: Since the glacier is so close, we figured we'd come back another day in the hope it wouldn't be so crowded. All those people looked like they were freezing..one person was even wearing snow pants! I was fine, but they probably were from much warmer climates haha. We also had dinner with mom's friend Christine (I think they met through Bonnie) and her boyfriend Jim. We made plans for the next day too, and then just hung out at the B&B

Yesterday we met up with Christine at the state museum where she works (she's an educator and gives kids tours). On the way I saw at least three bald eagles sitting on light poles..so awesome! Since Christine works at the museum and we're her friends, we could tour it for free! Awesome haha. There were a bunch of Native artifacts, prehistoric bones, a sledge (*swoons*), etc. So a couple weeks ago mom and I were watching Sea Hunters, a show where these guys (including the author Clive Cussler!) look for lost shipwrecks, and one of them was on the Princess Sophia, which grounded on a reef and sank in Lynn Canal, near Juneau, in 1918. All 353 passengers died, and it's now known as "Canada's Titanic." I was hoping I'd find a book or something about the ship in Juneau, and indeed the museum had a book about the ship, and artifacts recovered from the ship! So surreal looking at things like that. There was also fabric and this radio thing from the airship Amundsen flew to the North Pole!! Way cool! After that we went downtown..there were "only" four cruise ships there then..those things are MASSIVE, like an entire city on the sea. O_o I couldn't stop looking at them haha. There were of course LOTS of people, and cheesy tourist shops haha. We went to a quilt shop and a couple bookstores (which also had books on the Sophia haha). I have bought waaaay too many books on this trip, I hope they fit in my suitcase. :P After that we took the tram up Mount Roberts..it was raining, but the views of Gastineau Channel and the mountains were still gorgeous (I was probably the only one there identifying old terminal moraines from Mendenhall Glacier LOL). You could see the tops of the cruise ships..one had what looked like a little waterpark with a slide, and another had at least THREE pools..crazy haha. After that we found our first geocache in Juneau (yay!), and then went across the bridge to Douglas Island and had yummy pizza (Jim met us there too). I was so tired when I got back to the B&B haha

Today after breakfast mom and I went to another bookstore haha..it's owned by Friends of the Library, and it's HUGE. You could spend hours just going through the fiction. :P It was SUPER cheap too..I got like 7 books for $4.50!! Hard to resist when they're THAT cheap lol. After that we met Christine at her house (I didn't think we'd be hanging out with her this much, but that's fine, it's fun with friends lol). We drove to a quilt store that someone mom used to work with works at, but she wasn't there..they still bought fabric though haha. After that we had lunch and then found a few geocaches. The forests here are so cool..lush and green with huge trees! We saw some kind of sapsucker (I think that's what Christine called it..she's good with birds after working at Creamer's Field lol) feeding her chicks..aww! After that we drove to Mendenhall Glacier again haha, and found a geocache there too. There were FAR less people there this time, so that was nice. Then we dropped Christine back at her house (she's pretty close to where we're staying..must be cool having the glacier in your backyard lol) and now we're relaxing..so tired :P

Tomorrow it's supposed to be mostly sunny, so I'm hoping to go on a flightseeing tour! I so want to see some glaciers I haven't seen before, like Taku, which is advancing! I hope we don't need a reservation and can fit us in. Then I think we're going kayaking with Christine at Mendenhall Glacier! That would be so cooool. :D I hope the weather will be as nice as they're saying it's supposed to be!

I am now back home! The last few days of the vacation were busy, but so much fun. On Friday before the game we drove up to the college (UC Irvine) to scope it out so we knew what we were doing before the game lol (it wasn't far from the hotel, maybe 10-15 minutes away). We bought tickets and found a couple geocaches and then checked out nearby Fashion Island, an indoor/outdoor mall/plaza type thing.it was huge! Most of the clothing stores were nothing I'd like, and amazingly, there was a Barnes and Noble there! I've never seen one in a mall before! I probably spent waaay too much time there, at least two hours LOL..oops. :P I was happy to see a lot of people shopping there <3

After that we relaxed at the hotel and then went back to UC Irvine for the game (and found a couple more caches lol). It was really surreal actually being there! I kept looking for Debbie (Scott's sister), and finally spotted her on the opposite side from us (I sent her a message saying I was coming too). The area was super loud, but it was SO MUCH FUN!! They did really, really well, and it was awesome seeing Scott's famous "Stadick Scream" in person haha. In the second set, they completely annihilated the other team..one player had 3 service aces in a row, and Scott had around 3 blocks as well. They won that set 25-12! (The team they played somehow won one set over Hawaii the week before..no idea how, considering how they played this night..Hawaii is REALLY good.) Before the third set started we went over to where Debbie and her three-year-old daughter Selah were sitting..she was COMPLETELY shocked when she saw us..she thought I was joking when I said I was coming to the game!! We haven't been a huge part of their lives (we first met in 2003), so I thought she'd be like "ehh" about a distant cousin (third cousin, according to my family tree lol) coming to visit, but no, she was very happy to see us! She was sitting in the first row behind where the team hangs out when they're not playing at the moment, and Scott spotted us and waved! (Yay, he remembered us lol.) more under here! )

What a great trip! Exhausting, but fun lol. We had a big sale at work on Saturday, so there will probably be a lot of shelving to do :P

more pics!! )

I have just now heard of the fire at Notre Dame at Paris, and now I want to cry. :( That is so sad!! My heart broke when I saw the video of the spire falling..omg :(

Hello from California! Yesterday our flight to Anchorage left at 8, so we had to get up at 5 something..ugh. At least we were rewarded with awesome views of Denali, Mt. Foraker and some glaciers! All three of our flights were under three hours because of an awesome tailwind! I watched How to Train Your Dragon (HOW had I never watched it till now?! That movie is amazing! Toothless the dragon reminded me of a cat LOL) and a lot of How to Train Your Dragon 2 (must finish it on the flight back!!). I saw some cool mountains and glaciers flying out of Anchorage, but then on my side it got cloudy! I looked over at the other side and it looked clear for miles! When the clouds did clear, my side was just ocean..it's a good thing I've seen the glaciers on that side before, but I'm always sad to miss them anyway. :P We flew in to John Wayne Airport in Orange County, which I hadn't been to in YEARS. Everything looked so green flying in!! That always amazes me after a long Alaska winter lol. We got our rental car and drove to the hotel in Costa Mesa, which is pretty close to the airport. It was nice to relax, I was SO tired lol..getting up so early makes me feel awful the whole day :P

Today we had breakfast and geocached our way to nearby Newport Beach lol (really stressful when you're not used to lots of traffic and don't know the area!). I think we found 5 or 6. I don't remember ever going to Newport Beach before (as a kid I mostly went to Redondo or Hermosa). It was pretty nice. We got some yummy food (I'm pretty sure California is more expensive than Alaska, wow D:) and walked on the piers and fed some pigeons..poor things must have a rough life, some of them had deformed feet and one had fishing wire wrapped around its feet and maybe part of its wing..OMG so sad. :( :( :( I tried catching it, but it was still too fast for me. :( That probably happens often, sadly, judging by their feet. Poor things. :( After that we relaxed at the hotel and then Aunt Susan met us for dinner..weirdly, she works at Newport Beach! (She lives near Torrance, 37 miles away.) It was nice to see her again! We ate at a Mexican restaurant, where they make guacamole right in front of you! I don't usually like guacamole, but this looked too yummy not to try. It was indeed really good! Fairbanks guacamole is sad LOL. We talked for a couple hours about dad's health and stuff, and then Susan drove us back to the hotel. Nice seeing her again!

Tomorrow is Scott's game, woohoo! I hope they do well lol
