Amaze Amaze Amaze!!
Apr. 29th, 2026 11:51 pmToday Ryan and Jo and I drove to Scottsdale (about an hour and 20 minutes from Payson. Definitely Phoenix's fancier neighbor haha). There's a fancy eat-in movie theater that Jo wanted to go to..we had to decide between Project Hail Mary and The Devil Wears Prada 2, and after saying how much I loved PHM (I really did want to see it in the theater again), we decided on that one. We had time before the movie, so we went to a bookstore called The Poisoned Pen Bookstore, which I had heard of before! They specialize in mysteries (one of my favorite genres), and found two books by an author I love that I hadn't found anywhere else! Definitely a dangerous bookstore haha. It felt like a landmark in my life to visit a bookstore I heard about online LOL
We then went to the movie theater, which was SUPER cool! They have a full menu, alcohol, coffee, etc. You go to your plush recliner seat and then a waitress comes and takes your order! I got a quesadilla, fries and a long pretzel twist thing, and they were SO good! It was hard to eat in the dark though lol. There was a button by your seat to summon the waitress to ask for something else, but I was too scared for some reason. I LOVED Project Hail Mary even more this time! I just love Rocky and Grace's friendship! One favorite scene is Rocky's ship chasing Grace's, and then both of them spinning with fancy jazzy/happy music playing (I'm obsessively listening to the soundtrack right now, and that part makes me smile <3). The planet Adrian and the petrova line had gorgeous visuals as well. A second favorite part is the ship flying through the aurora above Adrian..it made me proud to live in Alaska! I really like the music in that scene too, especially the "drumming" noises. Exceptional filmmaking! The movie has become melted into my soul..like, I literally feel it has changed me somewhat. It makes me feel hopeful and happy. <3 It's definitely one of my all-time favorite movies now (I love the Interstellar references on YouTube, like "Grace, this is no time for caution!" Nice :P) and am super obsessed lol. I tried talking like Rocky ("can I take a shower first, question?"), which Jo thought was funny :P
After that we got gelato and went to a gift shop, then drove back to Payson (we saw four elk!). Would I drive for over an hour to go to that theater again? YES haha, now I feel spoiled :P
A couple pics:

The Mazatzal Mountains outside of Payson. So cool!

An elk! She literally didn't care at all, even when the car was between her and her calf (I was wondering when I'd see some elk, the universe read my mind :P
Yesterday I discovered there's a bookstore in Payson now!!! It opened in 2023, after I visited last time (2021). I found...a couple books set in Alaska there?! I wasn't expecting that! I wasn't a genre I usually read, but had to get it anyway. There was also a book about Ice Ages..the cashier was amazed at my good luck when I told her I was from Alaska haha. I must go there again!
