Yesterday was the first clear, sunny day in Fairbanks in what seemed like a very long time. It was nice eating a milkshake with my parents on the deck again lol. Around midnight I was about to get in bed, then remembered it was clear and looked outside to see if the Northern Lights were out, and sure enough, there they were! I watched from my window for awhile and when they didn't go away, I went to tell mom the lights were out (she was about to go to bed. Everyone except dad is a night owl lol). We went outside and mom texted Ryan and Jo, who came out too. Ryan said he walked Sid a little earlier, but didn't see anything. I looked at just the right time!! They got bright and started dancing..I'll never get over how cool that always is! The lights are almost never directly overhead at my parents' house, so that was cool too! After awhile they faded some and we went back inside. I was about to go to bed again when mom told me they were good again. We watched from her window and went back outside when they started getting really good. After I got back outside the sky just EXPLODED with auroras!! You couldn't see all of them at once because they were just everywhere!! They turned purple and were dancing like crazy..so beautiful! Around 1 they faded and just stayed white, so then we went to bed for real this time haha. That was super cool and fun and lucky. Thanks, nature!

When everyone was at grandma's, we were watching videos from America's Got Talent..one of them was Richard Goodall, a humble janitor who liked to sing. He seemed SUPER nervous and "plain" (he himself said he wasn't a fancy person), but when he started singing "Don't Stop Believin," Simon Cowell's jaw dropped to the floor, and I said "what?!" His voice sounded SO much like Steve Perry's, and he added his own touches too (like when he said "he took the midnight train going anywhere," he did a hand motion like he was showing where the train was going). His hands were shaking the entire time, but he was SO good and completely owned the song. Definitely a "don't judge someone by their looks" moment. He got the Golden Buzzer (I think it sends you straight to the live shows). A couple days ago I saw he was the winner of this year's show!! I watched his other performances, and yeah, he absolutely earned his win (Simon was right when he said America's going to love him!). I'm so happy he won, just a regular guy who'd never even been on a plane before going to audition. Nice!

On Saturday, the bookstore did over $7000! We didn't break any records this time, but it's still awesome! (In the old days, $2000 was super awesome, now we do that in an hour or two haha.) We sold LOTS of books, but it always amazes me how many are left! I'm going to be busy shelving this week :P

I found another show with a main character who stutters (Arkwright), Open All Hours, a British sitcom from the 70s. Normally I hate sitcoms (especially the laugh tracks), but this one is actually clever and funny. One favorite line is when Arkwright says "How do you spell p-p-p-p-pepper? Is it six p's or seven?" and another is when he says "didn't you hear the weather fore-fore-forecast?" and his nephew says "the 'fore-fore-forecast'? That's three fours are twelve...don't you mean the weather 'twelvecast'?" Ha! Another that had me literally loling is when he said "it all started when we had B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B" and his nephew said "you know I don't understand Morse Code!" I wasn't expecting THIS line though (for context, there's a mattress in a car):

"Salesman: We're arguing about a few pounds?"
Nephew: "You can fit a four-poster in the back of that one!"
Me: "OMG NO WAY" *flails*

Now I'm imagining a four-poster in a car LOL. Awesome. :P The episodes are only like 30 minutes long, but at least there are four seasons (I'm still sad Here Come the Brides only had two seasons lol)

Dad showed me more pictures of his trip to Flower Mound, and wow, it has gotten FANCY..instead of ranches and fields, now there are giant houses and condos overlooking Grapevine Lake (I remember when there were fields! I was always sad when they slowly kept getting built on). He said except for a new playground, the neighborhood we lived in is mostly the same. The town started growing quickly in the late 90s and 2000s, and it hasn't stopped since..wow. I'd kinda like to go back, though it would be VERY weird..

I recently found a game called Hidden Paws, where you search for cats and yarn balls in an icy landscape, and it's SO relaxing! The levels get more complex the further you get in the game. I get ridiculously excited when I find a cat LOL (they meow when you get close to one). I love opening boxes and shutters on windows and just exploring. Cats and ice and even penguins, some of my favorite things! It makes me super happy <3

I've had a really, really rough week..I think that isolation killed my mental health and made me insanely anxious (I went to the ER twice D:). I never should have stopped the Amitriptyline..I went from ravenous hunger to no appetite, even to the point where I've felt nauseous if I've tried eating. I've lost a few pounds from hardly eating. I haven't had the energy or mindset to write here. I didn't realize how much Amitriptyline helped with anxiety too until these past couple weeks. I would way rather have too much of an appetite than this, so I'm going back on it. I tried working Tuesday, and didn't last too long (covid is exhausting!), but I lasted much longer today. Hopefully I'll just keep getting better each day (things must improve!!)

The season finale of Stranger Things season 4 was EPIC though..Eddie playing Metallica on his guitar in the Upside Down was one of the best scenes in the whole show. Sad there's only one season left! (Pretty sure Robin is autistic too lol, I could definitely relate to her!)

pokemon update )

2. What do you want to remember about today? What would you like to forget? Mom got me a milkshake, I think. I was very tired of isolation lol

3. If you could wish for one thing to happen tomorrow, what would that be? I was wishing to get out of the house haha

4. What colours are you wearing? Uhh..I think I had on some blue and grey..?

5. What is a political issue that interests you? Bleh politics..I guess global warming, if that counts

6. Do you still carry cash on you/use cash on a regular basis? Not *always,* but yeah..sometimes it's just easier lol

7. Messy or neat? I'm kinda more messy..oops :P

Oh my, Abby was way too cozy this morning LOL. She is so cute and spoiled :P

Oh dear, I have a new fictional crush:
Screen Shot 2020-02-23 at 2.24.47 PM
Daniel Sousa, from the show Agent Carter. Not only is he super handsome and funny, I'm incredibly fascinated by the fact he has a disability (he lost his leg in WWII and has an artificial one..it happened recently in the show, so he still has a hard time walking)..he is not afraid to use his disability to his advantage and beat up bad guys with his crutch LOL, which makes me love him even more! Does that make me a horrible person?? At first I just watched the scenes he was in, but inevitably got caught up in the storyline eventually. :P I loved the scene where he was confronting some guy with hypnotism powers..he was struggling to cross an entire room while the guy was trying to put him under his spell..it seemed to be working when he told Sousa to point the gun at his fellow agent, and he did, looking stupefied (and he tripped a little). Of course his friend was freaking out and saying "don't listen to him, snap out of it!!" The hypnotism guy looked away at his friend, and that's when Sousa turned around and knocked him out with his gun. He took cotton out of his ears and was like "did he say something?" and just started laughing (his friend, who was on the ground, fell back relieved and worn out haha). That was AWESOME, and kept watching it over and over! He is so cool! Yep, I have the weirdest obsessions :P (I'm sad there are only two seasons though..why??)

There's been lots of Abby snuggles this long weekend lol. <3 She's so spoiled hehe

Dinner last night was fun..Ryan made these AMAZING bread rolls. *drools* They have Disney+, so dad and I checked that out while the others were getting ready..so many nostalgic things on there! We watched Drain the Oceans, which was 110% AWESOME and fascinating..amazing they still come across long-lost shipwrecks! Amazing what they're still finding, like ancient Greek helmets and battering rams that were on their ships. On one site they found a bunch of discarded cannon, and further down something else, and then artifacts in the shape of a ship. They concluded the ship got stuck on something and threw the items overboard, but they sank anyway. That is SO cool they can figure that out! One episode talked about the giant impact crater from the meteor crater in Mexico that wiped out the dinosaurs..there's a site in New Jersey with tons of fossils..the paleontologist said all around the world the fossils go up to a certain layer..and then disappear, which means everything was suddenly wiped out. Totally fascinating! I was so cold because I kept getting "Omg this is awesome" chills haha. Another episode talked about the Atocha, which sunk off the Florida coast..when I was a kid I went to the Atocha Museum in Vero Beach! So cool! I can't wait to watch more episodes!!

Tomorrow mom and I fly to Juneau, yay! Hopefully we'll bring sunny weather with us lol. I'll celebrate my birthday on the trip too! It shall be fun lol

Yesterday mom and I watched Chernobyl..wow. Very well done, but BRUTAL..especially when they had to kill the radioactive animals :( ("they're pets, they'll come right to you" broke my heart :(). I read that it's 99% accurate..people from Russia couldn't believe how accurate it was. The whole time I kept thinking "I can't believe all of this ACTUALLY HAPPENED!" The place won't be habitable for 10,000 years!! That's crazy. I liked that the guy who played Captain Crozier in The Terror was in it! After watching this, I can't believe there are still functioning nuclear reactors out there, that is TERRIFYING D: D:

This weekend mom and I watched The Last Place on Earth, a miniseries about Scott and Amundsen's race to the South Pole (it's been on my list, but for some reason haven't watched it until now :P). Hugh Grant played Cherry!
Screen Shot 2019-01-20 at 3.39.56 PM_zpspaokut0n
Guess I'll never look at him the same way again LOL

It was extremely biased against Scott, and showed him always angry and impatient at his men, which made the men hate him. Sorry but no, every diary or book about the expedition written by one of his men praises him highly, especially the fact that he chose men that got along with each other. He absolutely cared about his men, and his men knew it. Of course Scott made mistakes, but he was not the tyrant shown in this miniseries..ugh. I wish Cherry had been it more too, besides like 2 second glimpses of him..siiigh. :P I'm glad they showed the mistake of Amundsen setting out for the Pole too early, to show he wasn't perfect. Someone should make a new miniseries that shows Scott in a more positive light lol

Rhapsody's coming out with a new album, and out of curiosity I watched the new music video, "Rain of Fury." It's..not HORRIBLE, but it's not the same at all with Fabio and Luca gone. I wish they'd change their name, because they don't even feel like "Rhapsody" to me anymore..siiigh again :P

Dry winter

FAIRBANKS — Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away, but it didn’t look like winter this week at the Birch Hill Recreation Area, where ski students carried ski poles but weren’t wearing skis because only a thin layer of snow covered the ground.

Rick Thoman, at the Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and Policy, calculated that, as of Wednesday, a total of 0.7 inches of snow had fallen at Fairbanks International Airport, making this the least snowy year here since 1926.

Last month, Fairbanks International Airport set a record for the latest measurable snowfall: 0.1 inch of snow fell on the morning of Oct. 20 and then melted. The current thin layer of snow fell on Oct. 28 and Oct. 29 — 0.3 inches each day — according to National Weather Service records.

October 2018 ended up being the sixth-warmest October in Fairbanks recorded weather history, Thoman said. Across Alaska it was the warmest October on record.

In November, the temperatures have been lower and closer to seasonal averages but dry with only trace amounts of snow.

The meager snowpack may get slightly thicker this week. The weather forecast predicts a chance of snow each day over the next few days, with snow likely tonight.

Weather Service meteorologist Scott Berg said snow accumulation in Fairbanks is expected to be between 1 and 2 inches through the weekend.

Wow..I wonder what happened in 1926? We're supposed to get up to 8 inches of snow in the next few days though D:

I finally watched The Terror this weekend..it's one thing to read about the Franklin Expedition, but actually watching it, even a fictional version of it, brings it to another level (I felt that way watching The Worst Journey in the World too). Those poor people! D: I recognized two actors from Game of Thrones (Tobias Menzies, who played Edmure Tully, and Ciaran Hinds, who played Mance Rayder), and Jared Harris, who was in The Crown (he played Captain Crozier!). It was driving me crazy that I recognized all these people but couldn't quite place them until I looked them up LOL

Dad's in Payson right now, and last night he called and said he had heard the crash! Today he called and said he had walked over to the crash site, which didn't even take more than five minutes! That's so sad and scary, especially since our house there is in the same neighborhood and right across from the airport too..I always worry about that happening when I hear low flying planes. D: Sadly the pilot died, but the homeowner survived. That's so scary!

After binge-watching Designated Survivor..can Tom Kirkman PLEASE be our president?? Someone needs to make this happen, even if he is fictional LOL. The tough lady FBI agent is super cool too :P

Ooo, I've been wondering when this was going to come out! I hope it's not too scary though (yeah it's called The Terror lol, but that was the name of Crozier's ship too). I saw that Mance Rayder from Game of Thrones will be in it lol..cool. Not a lot was known of Franklin's expedition after they disappeared, so I'm wondering how much it's going to be "based on true events.."

Haha, the kitty sounded like Greyboy in the beginning! Always amusing when they randomly go crazy :P

Yesterday at the hotel mom turned on the TV and discovered the hotel had Netflix! I was looking away when she was picking a show, but when it came on, I could immediately tell Sam, the narrator of the show (Atypical), was high-functioning autistic. Intriguing, but THEN he kept describing how much he loved Antarctica and penguins! My jaw dropped to the floor..wow, of all things! How had I not heard of the show before?! And THEN he kept making references to Robert Falcon Scott and Roald Amundsen, and I was just like *IS DEAD* (I was waiting for him to mention Cherry, then I really would have freaked out lol.) Needless to say, we binged-watched the entire first season haha. Watching shows or movies with people with autism is hard for me, maybe because I'm reminded of myself and I'm constantly thinking "is that how I seem to people??" Sam would say stuff like "that's not what I expected a dorm to smell like," which is absolutely something I would say. When he was upset he would recite the names of the Antarctic penguins, which is like how I say "stick it" to myself when I'm in a hard spot. I very rarely cry when I watch movies or TV shows, but the scene where Sam had a breakdown on a bus and his mom comforted him definitely made me cry (the movie Temple Grandin had me bawling lol). Maybe because it's extremely real to me..or something like that? Sam also said autistic people have more empathy than "regular" people..I've heard that on a YouTube video as well, and that is DEFINITELY true, at least for me. People's emotions can definitely rub off on me. I hope there's a second season..there must be!! Haha

The drive home from Anchorage was definitely nicer than the drive down..it rained a little, but nothing like Friday, and eventually the clouds parted above the mountains and it was insanely beautiful lol. Alaska is beautiful even when it's cloudy, so when it's sunny you're just blown away. When we arrived at Fairbanks it just felt..like a warm comforting blanket was tossed over me. I think Fairbanks is just the right size..Anchorage is too big for me (and you spend FOREVER at traffic lights). Ahh, cozy Fairbanks. :D Weirdly, I didn't catch any new Pokemon in Anchorage (and I only saw one in the "nearby" corner of the screen), but as soon as I checked in Wasilla, one appeared! I also caught a Butterfree when we had dinner at Denali Park, which I had before only one of..I'm really surprised there weren't more in Anchorage! It's always a little weird returning to "reality" after a trip lol

Some random observations recently:

The bookstore will be dead for a couple hours, then a whole bunch of people will come in like 5 minutes before closing. Sometimes they take forever checking out, and you're standing there smiling politely but inside you're like "HURRY UP I'M HUNGRY I WANT TO GO HOME!" haha

Available is NOT pronounced "a-vail-ee-a-ble," which is how dad always says it. I kept thinking it was spelled wrong (I thought it had two I's) when I saw it at restaurants. Thanks dad. :P LOL

My vision, at least in my right eye, is much worse than mom's. I went with her to her eye checkup when I was off on Friday and the assistant (??) lady said mom's vision was -3 and -4 something. She was completely shocked when I told her my right eye was -7! (She was like "already?!?") That's impressive when even people who work for eye doctors are surprised LOL (I love the reactions I get when people try on my glasses.."wow, you are blind!!" Yep :P)

I go through more watches than anyone I've ever known (after a couple or so years the band eventually breaks..I could get a new band, but it's cheaper just getting a new watch lol)

Mark Gatiss' husband (Ian Hallard) played one of the characters in The Worst Journey in the World docudrama (for some reason it took me this long to find that out LOL), and he played in an episode of Sherlock. Cool!

Mark Gatiss is amazing as Mycroft Holmes, and totally swoonworthy LOL:

Yumm. He and Sherlock are completely different from one another, and it's hilarious watching them interact with each other haha (in one episode Sherlock went to Buckingham Palace wrapped in just a bed sheet, and Mycroft was just like "seriously?!?" haha). It amuses me how he's usually carrying an umbrella with him :P (hmm, this turned into a Mark Gatiss list LOL)

I didn't expect it to be funny lol..I couldn't stop squeeing at the scenes he was in. :D He seems like such a nice person! (That would be interesting if he was the last surviving character on Game of Thrones lol..it sounds like he'll get killed off from his "sharpening the knives" comment though..nooo. :( lol). I wish I could find the book by him I saw the other day, I want to read it!

It's supposed to be 28 degrees on Thursday! That's going to be AWESOME lol
