Yesterday mom and I left Florida..before we did, we took a selfie with grandpa and Ron:

Grandpa cried when we got in the car to leave, awww. :( Goodbyes are always sad (except to Florida, bleh). I think in June Ron and Teresa are driving up to South Dakota, where Stephanie works..it would be cool to visit them there!

This time when flying into DFW, I saw Lewisville and Grapevine lakes and Grapevine Mills mall..cool! Grapevine Lake seemed bigger than I remember..weird. Also weird was that the terminal we flew into this time was more like how I remembered the airport, and definitely not as "modern" and plush as the other terminal. There were storms flying out of Texas..it was cool seeing the lightning from the air!

I'm really enjoying how cool Santa Fe feels compared to Florida. I felt kind of wrecked when I woke up though..I think I'm travel weary :P

On Saturday mom and I flew to Florida..we had a layover at DFW, which is always SO WEIRD. That airport has completely changed..it's plush and modern now! I didn't recognize much flying in, except the general Texas feel haha. Teresa and Ron picked us up in Tampa and drove us to grandpa's house in Crystal River (80 some miles away). Grandpa goes to bed super early (it used to be 9, but it's between 7-7:30 now!!), so we didn't see him that night. Mom and I just wanted to go to bed after traveling anyway :P

Yesterday after everyone was gathered we took Theresa and Ron's dog Reece for a walk..it was pretty hot, even though it was relatively early. Grandpa came down the street on his 1929 Model A and gave me a ride back to his house! So cool!

After that we drove down to the ocean and stood on the boardwalk for awhile, and found a geocache on the way back, which had a $2 bill in it!! Cool! I love that Teresa and Ron like geocaching, because none of my other family members really do. I love how easygoing they've always been..if their daughter Stephanie was like "can we go to McDonald's?" Teresa would say "absolutely!" with no hesitation. We took a selfie after we found the cache:

Mom, Teresa, me, Ron

Then we went back to grandpa's house, had dinner, and went to Teresa and Ron's motorhome to hang out after grandpa went to bed (they're staying at a campground a few miles from grandpa's house). They have a pretty nice setup! After that mom and I went back to grandpa's house and went to bed

Today Ron took us to a trail that led to the Withlacoochee River (and found a couple geocaches in the area). It was SO, SO hot (high 80s) and wasn't enjoying myself at all. We only got halfway before we had to turn around, because I was completely miserable and overheating. We did find a place to park to see the river, which was clear and beautiful. I REALLY needed something cool to drink, so we went to Wal-Mart and I got a lemonade and some cooler pants. Ron drove me back to grandpa's house because I was tired and hot and DONE (everyone else went back to Ron's motorhome for a couple hours). I laid in bed under the fan and rested. I could never live in Florida, the heat and humidity are AWFUL, and I keep seeing "Trump 2024" flags and stuff..blech. Seeing family is nice, but I can't wait get out of this state on Wednesday. We had dinner after everyone got back, hung out, and then Teresa and Ron left for the night. Amazingly, grandpa stayed up until after 10 tonight!! Having people around probably helps lol..I hope he's not tired tomorrow though :P

Today mom and Cindy and I went to Bandelier National Monument (23 miles from Santa Fe)..Ancestral Pueblo lived there thousands of years ago. You can see the foundations of their homes and caves and petroglyphs carved into the walls (a lot of the walls are made up from volcanic ash from the Valles Caldera, which erupted 1.14 million years ago). A couple caves have ladders you can climb up and go into them (there was a third, but someone vandalized it, so it was closed..what is wrong with people??). There were a lot of ponderosa pines around too, which smelled SO good. There was a place called Alcove House where you had to climb four ladders and a bunch of stairs and very narrow trails to get to the top..mom wouldn't go to the top because she's scared of heights and has been having problems with her shoulder, so it was just Cindy and I (Cindy's been before, but she was still somewhat scared too). It was just tiring to me lol. A lot of the alcove was closed off because of damage or something, which was disappointing, but it was a fun adventure anyway. :P It was SUPER windy all day, so we left dusty and tired, but it was a cool place to see!

here are pics! )

The drive back from Kansas seemed longer than going there..the middle of nowhere corner of the Oklahoma panhandle was especially boring..it killed everyone's souls a little bit LOL

Tomorrow mom and I are flying to Florida to visit grandpa and Aunt Teresa and Uncle Ron (they recently retired and sold their house in Wisconsin, and are staying at a campground near grandpa's house). We're only staying like three days, but at least we're going to be able to see them! I hope Florida won't be too hot :P

2 – Bike Month: Do you cycle? If yes, do you do it mostly for fun/occasional outings, or is it your main mode of transportation? Does your municipality have good cycling infrastructure? Do you cycle year-round, even in winter (and in the snow if you get snow where you live)? I do not, but I think Fairbanks has good biking trails

3 – Write a Review Day: Do you write reviews for products or services (e.g. reviews on Amazon, or on a restaurant's or shop's website)? Do you do this regularly, or only if you're particularly happy or dissatisfied with the product or service? Whether or not you write reviews, do you read reviews left by others to help your decision-making process? Do you find negative reviews more helpful than positive ones? Only if I absolutely HATED a book will I review it on Goodreads, other than that I don't. It can help me make a decision, though sometimes I ignore it and enjoy the book or whatever anyway. Positive ones are nicer :P

4 – Petite and Proud Day: Petite is used to describe a person about or under 162 cm/5'4". Are you petite? Do you think petite women maybe have an easier time of it than short men? Would you (or have you) dated someone shorter than you? Yeah, I'm 5'1. I don't know..?? Sure, if I liked him lol

5 – Space Day: Ever wondered what lies beyond our skies? Do you think we'll ever have permanent human settlements on the moon, or on Mars? Sure. It seems unlikely at this point

Teresa, Ron and Stephanie left this morning. :( I always hate having to say goodbye to them, they're so easygoing and happy and fun. Last night we played Scattergories..everyone is always surprised at how good I am at that game haha. Like I said "welwitschia" for a plant that starts with "w" (it's a tree that grows in the desert and can live for thousands of years. It only has two leaves its entire life!). Everyone was like "...yeah, that was my next answer" LOL. Hopefully they can come to Alaska soon, that would be fun!

After they left grandpa took us to his neighbor's house that has a chicken coop and we got some fresh eggs! Their chickens were beautiful and well taken care of. They also had quail and a nice kitty hehe. We hung out for a couple hours and then went back to grandpa's house. I think his cats are relieved they don't have to worry about a dog anymore :P

November 25 - What’s your favorite dinosaur? Blue from Jurassic World is pretty cool, and of course Littlefoot from The Land Before Time lol

Today mom and I took Teresa, Ron and Stephanie geocaching, since they'd never done it before. As we were going into the woods to find the first one, Ron screamed and we all rushed up to see that he had almost walked into a GIANT spider in its web. D: D: D: D: We carefully walked around the web and found the cache..the spider must have been guarding it lol. *shivers* We found three more after that (and there was one we didn't find). They thought it was fun..I figured they would, since they're adventurous people lol (the spiders weren't necessary though :P). Here's a pic after Stephanie found her first cache!

Yesterday Aunt Teresa, Uncle Ron and Stephanie arrived at grandpa's house..they have a newish dog named Reese (one of their other dogs died earlier this year). He is 9 months old and full of energy lol. Grandpa's cats were terrified of him at first, but Simba got brave and jumped on the counter and was looking him over..when Reese got too close Simba hissed, and then the dog was scared of the cat haha. Eventually Simba jumped to the floor, and later Richard came out of hiding. Today I actually saw Richard and Reese touch noses! The cats still hiss and look wide-eyed at him if he gets too close, but they've kinda gotten comfortable with him. We all went out to a Thai restaurant, and then stayed up till almost 1 AM talking! Grandpa NEVER stays up that late (9 is usually his bedtime)..he kept saying "why am I still up??" LOL. Here's a pic of us looking at old family photos!

From left to right, mom, me, Ron, grandpa and Stephanie

This morning was busy with Thanksgiving cooking lol..we also went for a walk around the neighborhood. Three horses came up to greet us..one of them stuck his nose on my face and was sniffing and licking me a little LOL, I wish I had gotten a picture of that! We also saw a couple cows that greeted us (didn't pet them though), sandhill cranes, and a hawk! Fun nature walk! Eventually the food was done, and we ate a yummy feast. :D So glad to be spending the holiday with my fun family! Half of us fell asleep after that LOL. Later we had pumpkin pie and have been hanging out and watching TV. I just saw a commercial for the movie Green Book, with VIGGO MORTENSEN!!! I haven't seen him in a new movie in YEARS! (I had a huge crush on him when I was younger LOL.) That automatically makes that movie a "must see" :P

Here's a pic of us at dinner!

From left to right, Teresa, Stephanie, me (ignore my weird expression, I was eating and trying to smile lol), Ron and mom. Yay!

Tomorrow we're going kayaking in a spring or river that's famous for having manatees in it..that sounds like way more fun than Black Friday shopping :P

On Sunday night we got on the first flight to Seattle..I just wanted to sleep, but this baby in the row next to me wouldn't stop crying!! He eventually quieted down, but every time he woke up he started crying..ughh. The lady next to mom REEKED of smoke..she did have a cat though, which we got to pet hehe. We arrived in Seattle at 4 something, ew..I couldn't believe how many people were awake at that hour lol. We had a couple hours there..I got a vanilla bean frappuccino at Starbucks, which tasted like a vanilla milkshake, yum! We left Seattle at 7 something, and I drooled at Mt. Rainier, St. Helens, Adams and all the rest in the sun lol. I watched Tangled (finally!) and Happy Feet (because..Cherry? Haha) too. Around 5 hours later, we arrived in Tampa..grandpa picked us up and drove us the 80 miles back to his house (thanks!). Mom and I were so tired lol..I felt like time had been stolen from us after going through multiple time zones haha. After dinner grandpa got his genealogy file out, and I finally got to see that my research was all correct, right up to John Hopkins of Hartford!!! OMG so happy lol. There were a bunch of copies of some Day Book that was in the family for over 150 years, but grandpa doesn't know what happened to it. I hope there is more than one book, or somehow it can be found, because that's the proof I need to become a member of the Mayflower Society! Grandpa also showed me old family pics..his parents, grandparents, etc..I love being able to put faces to names and I'm excited to share them here! Going to bed was awesome, and slept very well. :P Teresa and Ron and Stephanie arrive tomorrow, yay!

Before the family pics, a new Cherry sighting!!!
mini_magick20181120-5-t3b2nw
I've seen this pic before, but this one was big enough to spot Cherry, holding his glasses! (That's a total giveaway. :P) Aww yay, look at him shyly peeking out hehe <3

November 20 - If you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life, which would it be? Does The Worst Journey in the World count? Haha

So far on the trip we've mostly hung out, played with grandpa's kitties hehe, and watched movies. Stephanie is 15 now and is definitely more mature than last time I saw her (3 years ago I think). Before she was always hyper and skipping around and stuff which drove me crazy. I feel bad cause I kept snapping at her and stuff. She doesn't really do that now..she's much calmer. It's definitely easy getting along with her now. She's also taller, her voice is deeper and it seems she lost her Wisconsin accent..I didn't know that could happen haha. She's super into Civil Air Patrol and anything military (that may be why she's more mature too). She wants to fly F-16s..that would be so awesome haha. I'm always impressed when I come over..Teresa and Ron are SUPER accommodating and easygoing

I actually feel more mature and patient than last time I was here too. The Zoloft could be part of it, but I also think working at the cash register for a couple years has helped too..you have to be patient and deal with lots of personalities. Wow..I like it haha

Not sure what we're gonna do today :P

We made it to Wisconsin! The first flight to Anchorage left at 9 something. It seemed pretty dark, but you could see the sunset once you got above the clouds. They both looked really cool! McKinley and Foraker were the only mountains tall enough to peek over the clouds..they also looked really cool! It was funny..the pilot said we had reached our cruising altitude and then was like "in 10 minutes we'll start the descent to Anchorage." Haha!! We spend most of that flight ascending and descending. :P Mom said she sat next to a pilot she briefed when she worked for the FAA! Haha awesome. We didn't have a lot of time in Anchorage..I really wanted Chili's since it's not in Fairbanks anymore but we only had time to get fries from McDonald's. Mom was actually flying standby (I had a paid ticket but if mom couldn't go I wouldn't either). Mom wasn't sure if she'd get a seat since the flight was full, but I think she got the last one! Nicee. We tried sleeping, but it's just impossible to get comfortable. Eventually I gave up and did a crossword haha. It took 5 hours to get from Anchorage to Seattle. After we got our bags we picked up our rental car and drove the hour and a half to Ron and Teresa's house in Wisconsin. Grandpa drove up from Florida..he was the only one at the house when we arrived. Ron got off work early and arrived soon after. Right now Teresa's at work and Stephanie's at school. We're just hanging out now and looking at pics and stuff haha. Yayy. So tiredd :P
glacier_kitty: (Default)
Last night Ron made a fire and we all sat around it..there was a lovely sunset and eventually the fireflies came out. We didn't have them in Texas so I'm always amazed when they come out. I love them. We were hyper and weird when we went inside haha. We also looked at the stars since I haven't seen them in like 2 months haha

Today is our last day in Wisconsin. *sniff* I really miss Abby but it'll still be sad to leave. We went hiking on the ice age kettle moraine trail. It was 3 miles long. The forest was lovely and full of rocks the glacier left behind. I was definitely hurting and feeling dizzy too. I got bitten by mosquitoes and Teresa got stung by a bee! We though it was funny cause we were just falling apart haha. We didn't have to walk all the way back cause this nice lady came along and said she'd drive Ron to where his car was so he could pick us up. I'm so out of shape :P

Today was the celebration of the June birthdays (mine, mom's, grandpa's). First we went to the Milwaukee Public Museum. They had science exhibits, exhibits from different countries, etc. It was honestly rather boring. We also saw a short film about ocean life at the IMAX theater. It was pretty cool. They closed before we saw everything though. And it kept reminding me of Night at the Museum. :P We had time to kill before going to a restaurant (we had a reservation) so we walked by the Milwaukee River. They wouldn't tell us about the restaurant so it was a surprise haha. We walked into this alley and saw a sign that said something and Ron was like "what's this? Let's go in?" We did and this guy greeted us and was like "hi! To make sure you're not enemy spies you'll need to tell us the password! Do you know the password?" and we were like "uh..no" so he told us to stand against the back wall and do a chicken dance. We did (except me..I just stood there horrified haha) and then he let us in. Turns out that was the restaurant and Ron was just feigning ignorance about wondering what is was and the password haha (I think they wanted us to experience everything :P). There's a camera so while you're eating you can watch the people coming in doing ridiculous things. :P The restaurant was obsessed with James Bond and spy stuff in general (they referred to the customers as agents haha). It was pretty cool and interesting. You even left by a secret door..you had to find it and put a quarter in a pay phone thing and it told you a code to put in which opened the door. Then you walked through a tunnel thing. Coool haha. Then we went home

I am in Wisconsin! We left Fairbanks last night for Anchorage. When we got to the airport we talked to the ticket agent person cause on some flights we had middle seats (not together) and mom wanted to change that even though she thought it was full. Well she was able to give us window seats and put us together! I was like "EEEE" haha. That was my first time flying over Alaska with no snow covering everything! It was pretty cloudy but I did see this one random glacier on a mountain! Then I saw the tops of Mt. McKinley and Mt. Foraker (the wind was blowing the snow off the top of it..sweeeet) and then through the clouds I saw this AWESOME glacier with SWEET moraines. It may have been Muldrow Glacier. It was SO awesome haha. Then further from that one I saw another glacier! (Kahiltna?) I love seeing their moraines not covered with snow. :D We descended into Anchorage, waited some there and then got on the looooong flight to Chicago (at least 5 or 6 hours..guh). The sun was setting (11 something) and it got darker the further we flew. I still got to see this MASSIVE icefield and Bering and Malaspina Glaciers!! Those are impossible to miss in the right conditions..they are seriously HUUUGE. Mom kept telling me it wasn't those glaciers I saw cause we were inland and not near the coast but I saw the ocean in the distance and NO other glaciers look like that that I know of..they're unmistakable. It kept getting more cloudy and dark and gave up and tried to sleep (though we are coming back that way during the day so hopefully it won't be too cloudy and I can get better pics). Then I read..and it was cloudy for hours..and I just wanted to land when we were still 3 hours away haha. There was like a weird permanent sunset-sunrise from going into different time zones. We fiiinally land (hello boring Midwest scenery :P) and we're exhausted but we still had to get our rental car and drive 90 some miles to Ron and Teresa's house..ughh. I could barely stay awake. It's reaaaally humid here haha. I saw a sign that said "Glacial Drumlin Trail"! I was like "DUUUUDE" haha. We finally got to their house..Stephanie definitely has grown since I saw her last..wow. Grandpa drove up from Florida to see us too! Hopefully we'll have a fun time (I may get so confused when it gets dark here at night though :P)

pics! )

Dad's coming to visit tonight! Hopefully he'll be able to see my apartment when he's here haha

When Aunt Cindy comes in July I think we're gonna rent an RV for a week and go to Denali, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Matanuska Glacier so we can walk on it. Sweeeet

We may go to Wisconsin in June too! We'll see Uncle Ron and Aunt Theresa and cousin Stephanie and go back to the buffalo farm!! YAY! I absolutely LOVE it up there..it's one of my most favorite places. I have such great memories from there..especially the first time I visited

Today's trivia: "Speak of the Devil" is short for "Speak of the Devil and he shall come". It was believed that if you spoke about the Devil it would attract his attention. That's why when you're talking about someone and they show up people say "Speak of the Devil"

Ciao tutti!

Heyyyyy! I'm in Wisconsin! I made a hilarious journal entry in my paper journal and I shall post it here. We met my aunt, uncle, and 7 year old cousin Stephanie at the airport. Then we drove around and saw Lake Michigan (HUGE) and I majorly obsessed over all the old buldings...they were so cool!! I love old buildings, especially churches. Then we ate breakfast, dropped my aunt off at the airport (she had to go to Colorado), and went back to their house...it's prettyful and they have a dog named Violet who really likes me. My uncle is half Italian which is really awesome. We played Trouble and for the longest time I couldn't get my pieces out and everyone else was. Stephanie almost won (her last piece was I space away from home) and then I rolled a 6 and got my last piece to home and won...it was awesome...dunno what else we're doing today

We're going to the farm place tomorrow, yay!

MY UNCLE IS HALF ITALIAN!!
