Yesterday mom and I left Florida..before we did, we took a selfie with grandpa and Ron:

Grandpa cried when we got in the car to leave, awww. :( Goodbyes are always sad (except to Florida, bleh). I think in June Ron and Teresa are driving up to South Dakota, where Stephanie works..it would be cool to visit them there!

This time when flying into DFW, I saw Lewisville and Grapevine lakes and Grapevine Mills mall..cool! Grapevine Lake seemed bigger than I remember..weird. Also weird was that the terminal we flew into this time was more like how I remembered the airport, and definitely not as "modern" and plush as the other terminal. There were storms flying out of Texas..it was cool seeing the lightning from the air!

I'm really enjoying how cool Santa Fe feels compared to Florida. I felt kind of wrecked when I woke up though..I think I'm travel weary :P

On Saturday mom and I flew to Florida..we had a layover at DFW, which is always SO WEIRD. That airport has completely changed..it's plush and modern now! I didn't recognize much flying in, except the general Texas feel haha. Teresa and Ron picked us up in Tampa and drove us to grandpa's house in Crystal River (80 some miles away). Grandpa goes to bed super early (it used to be 9, but it's between 7-7:30 now!!), so we didn't see him that night. Mom and I just wanted to go to bed after traveling anyway :P

Yesterday after everyone was gathered we took Theresa and Ron's dog Reece for a walk..it was pretty hot, even though it was relatively early. Grandpa came down the street on his 1929 Model A and gave me a ride back to his house! So cool!

After that we drove down to the ocean and stood on the boardwalk for awhile, and found a geocache on the way back, which had a $2 bill in it!! Cool! I love that Teresa and Ron like geocaching, because none of my other family members really do. I love how easygoing they've always been..if their daughter Stephanie was like "can we go to McDonald's?" Teresa would say "absolutely!" with no hesitation. We took a selfie after we found the cache:

Mom, Teresa, me, Ron

Then we went back to grandpa's house, had dinner, and went to Teresa and Ron's motorhome to hang out after grandpa went to bed (they're staying at a campground a few miles from grandpa's house). They have a pretty nice setup! After that mom and I went back to grandpa's house and went to bed

Today Ron took us to a trail that led to the Withlacoochee River (and found a couple geocaches in the area). It was SO, SO hot (high 80s) and wasn't enjoying myself at all. We only got halfway before we had to turn around, because I was completely miserable and overheating. We did find a place to park to see the river, which was clear and beautiful. I REALLY needed something cool to drink, so we went to Wal-Mart and I got a lemonade and some cooler pants. Ron drove me back to grandpa's house because I was tired and hot and DONE (everyone else went back to Ron's motorhome for a couple hours). I laid in bed under the fan and rested. I could never live in Florida, the heat and humidity are AWFUL, and I keep seeing "Trump 2024" flags and stuff..blech. Seeing family is nice, but I can't wait get out of this state on Wednesday. We had dinner after everyone got back, hung out, and then Teresa and Ron left for the night. Amazingly, grandpa stayed up until after 10 tonight!! Having people around probably helps lol..I hope he's not tired tomorrow though :P

I can't believe how crazy the weather in Texas has been! I heard Flower Mound even got into the NEGATIVES! They must have been totally freaking out..the coldest it got when I lived there was in the teens, which was definitely a big deal (the "inches of snow" title still made me laugh though :P). It's only 5 degrees there right now! Texas is under a winter storm warning for the first time in history..it even snowed in Galveston!! It'll be in the 50s there next week though..here in Alaska is just stays cold. :P It's ALWAYS windy there, so I imagine 5 degrees there feels a lot more colder than here..so thankful Fairbanks isn't usually windy in the winter haha. They'll remember this the rest of their lives!

I've been told by various people that Flower Mound (the town I lived in in Texas, I haven't been there since 2009) has changed a lot and that I wouldn't recognize it. I wanted to see for myself, and found this video on YouTube:

WHOA, they are ABSOLUTELY right..besides the actual flower mound (at the very beginning and end), Grapevine Lake and the Gaylord Texan, I didn't recognize ANYTHING. It looks like it's gotten super fancy..a Riverwalk, wow! I love the name "The Hound Mound" for the dog park haha. It would be interesting to go back, but VERY weird too. When my family moved there in 1990, there was hardly anything..crazy. I'm glad that Bari's is still there, it was one of my favorite restaurants!

Happy birthday, Cherry!! <3

Mom told me the people who bought our house in Texas put pics of the house online (they bought it from us so they could sell it haha) and said I should look to see what renovations they did. So I did. The outside looked the same but when I saw the pics from the inside..I was SHOCKED. It looks COMPLETELY different!! They put wooden floors in, took the shelves out of the room we called the library (what!? D:), put new carpet in, etc. It was barely recognizable to me. It definitely looks more modern. It feels weird to see it so changed..I lived there a long time..

Cicely: A mythical Alaska town invented for the television show "Northern Exposure." Cicely quickly took on a life of its own, appearing in weather reports and on sweatshirts, and showing up frequently in public queries to the state's division of tourism. But, as any Alaskan could tell you, Cicely is way too clean to be a real Alaska town. In fact, the show is filmed in Roslyn, Washington, east of Seattle

So yesterday the flight to Anchorage left at..10 something PM. I saw the Chena and Tanana Rivers and possibly Nenana (the village) but then it got too cloudy to see anything (even though it was dark you could still see the ground). I didn't originally have a window seat but a whole row was empty so I took it haha. I think that's possibly the shortest flight I've EVER been on. It was like we were in the air for 10 minutes haha. We got to Anchorage at 11 or 12 something AM. The flight to Seattle left at 1 something AM. It was FULL. I was in the middle. We met a nice lady that talked to us like crazy haha. She lives in Soldotna (Southern Alaska?) and other places in the Lower 48. After we landed she said we could have traded seats. :P It may have been too cloudy to see anything, and I dozed most of the way anyway. We got to Seattle at 5 something AM. It was raining..it's always raining or cloudy when I go there! :P While waiting for the next flight that lady came and talked to us more..she gave us her phone number and she told us to visit her haha. The flight to DFW left at 7 something. I had a window seat! When we were in the air the pilot was talking about the weather in Texas and stuff and then he was like "on the left you can see Mount Rainier!" and I was like "NOOOOOO" cause I was on the right side haha. Though we did follow the Rocky Mountains most of the way. We got in to Texas at 1 something. Whoa we stepped outside and it was WINDY. You could just feel the humidity and EEE IT'S WARM! Oh man the weather outside is great. And I said hi to my kitties. :D It rather feels like I never left..I did see some new stores though. And I SWEAR I saw a sign that said "glacier" haha!

The How to Speak Alaskan book is upstairs..so it's being skipped today :P

Today mom and I went up to Murphy Dome..I took pics and picked berries a little (then I went and read in the car cause it was cold! Haha). I saw the bottom of Mount McKinley! Yay haha

Poor Galveston and Houston..they got ravaged by Hurricane Ike. Though I was jealous I couldn't be in the Dallas area to experience the hurricane :P

Texas Weather

It's hot--except when it's not.
You will find that Texas has very long summers, very short winters, and negligible springs and falls. Around October, you will become very tired of summer and wish that it would go away. Then one morning, you will awaken and it will be 40 degrees outside. All the leaves will have departed the trees overnight and will be sitting in the yard, demanding to be raked.
That was fall.
It will be semi-cold in November and somewhat colder in December, January, and February. (As a Texan, you should begin shivering when the thermometer drops below 40.)
A particularly strong cold wind is known as a blue norther. The north is to blame for everything bad that happens in Texas, including getting cold.
And now, we're going to have to talk about the s-word. No, not snake. SNOW--the substance that strikes terror in the hearts of all Texans. If you live in the Panhandle, you'll be surprised at how much of this stuff you'll see. Think about it: If they'd drawn the lines a little differently, you'd be living in Colorado. It's going to snow on you. Sorry.
If you live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, it's likely to snow maybe once a year. It might accumulate an inch or less, unless it's an unusual year.
If you live in Houston, San Antonio, or points south, it is not supposed to snow on you at all. If it does, you have cause to weep copiously.
By now, if you are from the north, you are snorting. Snow, especially an inch or so, is no cause for alarm, you say. You are wrong.

I doubt they could take Texas by force. Texas has the largest fleet of armed pickup trucks of any major power, and any invading guerrilla army would be shot and run over repeatedly before it got half a mile, especially if it invaded on a Saturday night

Top ten reasons Texas winters aren't real winters:
The week before the "cool front" comes, you're wearing a t-shirt and flip flops
As soon as people hear the words wintry mix, they rush out and buy enough groceries to get through the Apocalypse
The use of the words wintry mix makes you believe that some sort of seasonal treat will be falling from the sky
The sand from the road that blows around after the ice melts makes you feel like you're back in the old west
1/8 of an inch of sleet falls and the whole state shuts down
No matter how little slow falls, the roads always manage to get icy, making you car feel like a hockey puck on wheels
All snowmen end up under two feet tall due to lack of resources
The kids who are outside sledding are doing so in recycle bin tops
People tell horrific tales of a light layer of frost that covered their car in the morning. They state emphatically and with wide eyes that they almost couldn't see through their windshield
All major networks neglect any other news story in order to cover the "tundra-like conditions"

We're translating poems of Catullus in Latin now...I like Ovid better haha

Today's Latin: circumit ad idem, unde profectum est, reveniet (what goes around, comes around)

"Did they die for God and glory, drowned in mist, cast from the light, trapped inside the line of fire, vale of tears, passage of shame on this day of doom?"--"And Hecate Smiled," Virgin Steele
