I got home very early this morning and now I can do a recap since I'm not socializing/exhausted haha. I wasn't sure how much time mom and I would spend with Aunt Cindy and Uncle Dean since their friends (Pam and Ken) were visiting too, but we actually spent a lot of our time with them! They were super nice and didn't at all object to having to share Cindy and Dean with us haha. One of the days Pam and I added each other on Facebook and she fistbumped me and said "we're friends now!" Heck yes! Haha. We spent a lot of time shopping downtown (with me admiring all the shops' curtains LOL). There were LOTS of tourists around..for some reason most of the time it was super windy, but otherwise it was sunny and nice. Downtown is dangerous because there are too many things to buy haha. I kept wondering why I was so out of breath doing simple things, until someone said something about the altitude (7,199 feet)..ah yes, that explained it haha. It's also SUPER dry, even drier than Fairbanks! Drinking water didn't help much, but lip balm did, thankfully. We also went to a couple bookstores (one with thousands of books in Spanish..the most in the country, according to the owner), but unfortunately, the one I usually went to was not in business anymore..the last time I was there the owner talked about how much he wanted to retire, so he did (another bookstore owner said he moved to California). It was a cool bookstore though..I wonder what he did with all his books? The library had a little store, with amazingly had a copy of The Worst Journey in the World, which I made Cindy buy LOL..she was like "every time you visit, I end up with a stack of books!" haha. I hope she likes it!

On Thursday I was excited but nervous to see Drew Lynch! Another comedian opened for him, and she owned horses, and said her pronouns were neigh/nem, with I thought was HILARIOUS lol. Eventually it was Drew's turn! He always opens his shows by making fun of or making observations about where he's performing. He mentioned being blown away but the crazy wind, blaming the altitude for stuttering, making fun of the town Truth or Consequences, and also having to use lip balm. There was also someone who was deaf in the audience, so there were a couple ASL interpreters to help him. When Drew came onstage and saw her he was like "oh no, I have to try not to stutter, would that look like a seizure in ASL??" That added part made the show even funnier..I can't remember the deaf person's name, so I'll go with Gary..he and the interpreters had a lot of attention from Drew (both of the interpreters were having fun lol). My favorite part of the show was when Drew stuttered, looked at the interpreter, and said "did you just sign my stutter?!" That's a huge reason I like him so much, he uses humor for his situation (like I do with autism). He's not just another guy trying to be funny..I feel like he would feel vulnerable, but he doesn't seem fazed. I also like how good he is at ad-libbing, like when he saw the interpreters. He has a fun laugh, though the volume was too loud. Mom said she had trouble following him sometimes, because he would start to say something and stop and change what he was going to say, but I'm sure that's because his stutter wouldn't let him say it..that would be frustrating, but he says something like "oh you know!," and continues on. I didn't understand or like ALL of his jokes, but it was still really fun! (I was super exhausted after it was over, too much stimulation!) He likes to post funny parts of his shows on YouTube, and I can't wait to see what he posts from this show! (Hopefully his interactions with the interpreters!) I'll have to share it if he does post it. At the end of the show, he said "you guys were f-ing awesome!" Why thank you. :P Haha. I'm glad he had fun too!

I flew home yesterday, but mom went on to Florida to visit grandpa (he's having cancer treatments and sometimes doesn't feel well). I HAVE to go back to work tomorrow, so I told mom to tell him I said "hi." It was nice to get away for a few days after working so hard during the move! I'm sure there's lots to do still though. :P I'm pretty sure Curti grew while I was gone, he's getting so big!!

pics from the trip! )

Before we left on Sunday, we took one last selfie with Cindy and Dean:

Yay! The flight out of Albuquerque left late, so they were boarding our next flight to Fairbanks when we landed!! When we finally got to the gate, they had already closed the door, but they let us on, phew!! There were actually a lot of people missing, so they nicely waited for them too. It was still too dark along the coast to see any glaciers though, darn. Abby was SO happy to sleep with me again haha, she kept pawing at my face for attention :P

When we were in Kansas, Cindy and mom and I went through boxes of grandma's things that had been stored in Julie's garage a long time..it was cool seeing cards I sent her when I was a kid! There were also baby pics of me, and mom and I about died when we saw this one:
347396221_772661497753068_6221991518266543399_n
I had a four-poster CRIB?! That's amazing!! It must have planted the seed, I always wondered if the regular four-posters would be cozy and "protective" :P (they are!)

15 – Bring Flowers to Someone Day: When was the last time someone gave you flowers? When was the last time you brought flowers to someone else? Not sure. Maybe last year for Mother's Day?

16 – Biographers' Day: Do you like reading biographies? What have been some of your favourites? If you're not a fan, why not? If you were going to write a biography of someone, who would that be? Sure, they can be interesting. Cherry's, George Vi's, etc. Not sure..
glacier_kitty: (Default)
Yesterday we went downtown to the New Mexico History Museum..it was pretty interesting. There were Native American artifacts, Spanish artifacts, history about both world wars, railroad history, etc. There were a lot of things, and we didn't get to see everything (like the inside of the Palace of the Governors, built in 1610, the oldest public building in continuous use constructed by European settlers in the continental United States) because we had dinner reservations at 5..we'll have to go back next time we visit. We had dinner at a nearby Mexican restaurant. I really love downtown Santa Fe..there are SO MANY shops and a lot of times there's music playing (this time there was a Native American dancing), the bells of the nearby chapel ring regularly, and just feels cultural and has a nice atmosphere. Santa Fe is just unique in general. Then we went home and played our last games of Catan for this trip..Dean is going to have withdrawals LOL

a couple pics from the museum )

Well, the long vacation has come to an end..mom and I fly back to Alaska later today. It's been tiring, but a nice change too. I'll miss Santa Fe and Cindy and Dean! I miss Abby and it'll be nice to see her again! I hope she remembers me LOL. I'll have a lot of mail to catch up on..hopefully nothing too urgent lol. One reason mom and I stayed this long was to avoid all the pollen, but I guess Fairbanks was colder than normal and the pollen has just now started..that's going to be fun to go back to. D: My suitcase is STUFFED haha. Hopefully I'll see some cool glaciers on the flight to Alaska :D

13 – World Fair Trade Day: Do you try to buy certified fair trade products? No..oops lol

14 – World Migratory Bird Day: World Migratory Bird Day is observed twice a year during the second Saturday in May and again on the second Saturday in October. The goal is to raise awareness of issues affecting migratory birds and to inspire action around the world to take measures for their conservation. Do you live in a region that sees bird migrations in the spring and fall? Light pollution is a major threat to migratory birds. Does your municipality have any "Dim the Lights" policies in place to protect migratory birds? Yes, one reason we have Creamer's Field..to keep the birds away from the airport. I don't think so..

1. Who was the last child, unrelated to you, you personally had a conversation with? Not sure..
2. Among things most children aren’t permitted to do, what should they be permitted to do? Stay up late..I always wanted to when I was a kid lol
3. Some people say there are (generally) animal people and children people. Which are you? An animal person
4. Which children’s books do you remember enjoying most? Where the Red Fern Grows, The Giving Tree, Harry Potter, My Side of the Mountain, etc
5. When did you last see koi in person? *shrugs*

We were going to go to a museum today, but Dean suddenly spotted bees swarming around a tree in his yard (he has a hive in the yard). We all rushed out to look..the bees were so loud! They all were piling on a branch in the tree. Cindy and Dean explained that when bees swarm like that, the queen has left the hive and with the other bees, is looking for somewhere else to make a hive. She's not a very good flyer though because she's heavy (even though the worker bees starve her for a couple days), so she has to rest, and all the bees pile on top of her so she's safe, and scouts go off to look for a good place for another hive. Dean got a box and suited up, then clipped off the branches with the bees and put them in the box. There were still bees flying around, but flew into the box once they knew the queen was in the box. Dean co-owns the hive with his friend, so he called his friend and his friend said to take the box to his house and he'd do something with it (Dean didn't want those bees anyway, since he thought the queen was getting too old). When Dean got back home he checked the hive, which had a lot of "queen cells" in it, which queens hatch out of in a couple weeks. That's why the old queen left: there wasn't enough room for all those bees, so half of them left to find a less crowded spot. When a queen emerges, she stings the other queens still in the cells (there can be only one!), so Dean split the hive and put some cells and bees in another box, so now he'll have two hives! I learned a lot of cool things about bees today..they're so smart! It was cool to see their intelligence by watching them swarm (they have to plan in advance!). Hopefully Cindy and Dean will have lots of honey this summer haha

12 – Limerick Day: Do you like limericks? Do you have a favourite? )
glacier_kitty: (Default)
Tomorrow mom and Cindy and I are driving to Kansas to visit grandma and Aunt Julie and Joelle! The drive is 692 miles, which is almost 11 hours. D: That's like driving to Anchorage and back in one day! Cindy said it's not a very interesting drive either..probably lots and lots of fields haha. Good thing I have a book that's over 1000 pages to read :P

We played Catan twice last night and I won both times! Dean was like "I don't like this game anymore!" LOL. He's won plenty of times though :P

pokemon update )

15 – World Art Day: What is your favourite piece of art? Have you ever seen it or only admired it in pictures? Hmm..The Starry Night is cool, and of course I like medieval/Renaissance paintings with four-poster beds in them LOL. I've just admired the pictures

16 – Garden Month: Do you have a garden, or access to a community garden? Is your garden all flowers, or do you grow herbs, vegetables, berries, etc.? If you live in an apartment, do you have a balcony garden? Mom grows a garden in the summer..a mix of veggies and herbs and stuff. I do not

17 – International Bat Appreciation Day: Have you ever seen a bat in the flesh? Real bat or Batman, which is better? Yeah, it was in my house for a couple days! No idea how it got in, but mom eventually got it to go out the front door. Hmm..Batman can do cool stuff lol

18 – Pinata Day: Has whacking a paper mache model for reward featured much in your life? Not really..maybe like once or twice as a kid
glacier_kitty: (Default)
1. How’s your water intake? I drink water, but I need to drink more lol
2. What do you eat specifically for its health benefits? Veggies like Brussels sprouts
3. What do you avoid specifically because it’s unhealthy? Hot dogs, snacks like Twinkies, etc
4. What foods or beverages put you in a good mood? Strawberry milkshakes/smoothies, popcorn, bread, etc
5. What are your favorite cookie, pie, and pastry? Chocolate chip, pumpkin, cinnamon rolls/croissants

A few days ago we went to Gunstock Hill Books, which we've been to a couple times before when visiting (it specializes in rare/collectable books). I told the owner mom and I were from Alaska and I like polar books, and he remembered us again! Cool haha. Otherwise, we haven't done anything super exciting, besides going to stores and playing Catan most nights (Dean LOVES it haha). Dean usually wins, but I finally did a couple nights ago! I think today we're going to go downtown and look in some shops and stuff..hopefully it won't be TOO busy :P

Monday (April 10th) was my 15 year anniversary of moving to Alaska! Wow, that went by fast. It definitely changed my life!

a few more pics )

10 – International Safety Pin Day: Invented in 1849, where would we be without them? Or do you think there is less of a place for them in modern life than there was in the past? I used them to put up the fall/Thanksgiving decorations on my bed, so they can still be useful

11 – Eight Track Tape Day: Eight Track Tape Day recognizes an era that was here and gone in a short 20 years. Are you old enough to remember eight tracks? Some technologies, like the Betamax, never caught on even though they were the superior product. Can that be said of eight tracks? No, I just remember cassette tapes

12 – World Hamster Day: Did you know there are 24 different species of hamsters? Have you ever had a hamster as a pet? I didn't and no..they're cute though

13 – Scrabble Day: When was the last time you played scrabble? Was it on a board or an online version? I think it was a few years ago at a volunteer picnic at work, it was a lawn version with huge tiles lol

14 – Look Up At The Sky Day: Go and have a look out the window at the sky and tell us what you see (if anything!) Clouds and blue sky..pretty!
glacier_kitty: (Default)
On Friday we got to Santa Fe just fine..even though getting up at 5 something is painful, it's better than flying overnight and trying to sleep on the airplane. I didn't have a window seat on the way to Seattle, but I could see a little of the Alaska Range from where I was sitting (the guy at the window was taking lots of pics, I hope he got some good ones!). Aunt Cindy picked us up at Albuquerque and drove us the 50-60 miles to Santa Fe. Earlier in the day Dean stepped off something wrong and sprained his ankle pretty badly..it was really swollen. Ouch! Their dog Blanca was happy to see mom and I hehe. We played a trivia game and talked and then went to bed (my bed has four posts, nice! LOL. I've been teased mercilessly since telling Cindy and Dean about how hard it is for me to say "post"..I wouldn't say it when they were there lol)

Yesterday Dean went to the clinic for his ankle (a bad sprain, like he thought). He's been having to ice it and elevate it and can just manage to hobble around..he hates not being able to do much! The rest of us did errands and stuff..at the store, mom and Cindy were like "you should help us chop off stuff for dinner!" I groaned and was like "if I say IT, do I not have to cook?" and mom said "if you say post ten times in a row without stuttering then you don't have to!" Oh NOOO impossible haha!! Indeed, I failed immediately when I tried saying it LOL, so they had me chop a bunch of vegetables haha. Tedious, which is probably why they wanted my help. :P I kept practicing with "post," and eventually could say it without stuttering! Everyone was proud. :D It was kinda fun showing my skills off then LOL. It was cool eating dinner and saying "behold, I chopped this!" haha. After dinner we played Catan, in which I lost dreadfully, talked more, and eventually went to bed

Today we dyed and decorate Easter eggs! Dean is still very bored, but not bored enough to decorate eggs haha. My drawing skills aren't great, but I did alright I guess. Dinnertime should be soon..I wonder if I'll have to help again :P

some pics! )

7 – World Health Day: Founded in 1950 by the World Health Organisation. What could you start to do today that will have a positive effect on your health? Drink more water?

8 – Zoo Lovers Day: Do you think zoos do an important job in teaching and conservation or do you think it is time to stop keeping animals in captivity? They do (there definitely are bad zoos out there though), though I still feel bad about the animals being in captivity

9 – Name Yourself Day: Maybe you always felt like your name didn’t reflect who you are, or maybe you just want to try something new. If you could re-invent yourself for one day by choosing a new name, what name would you choose? I've always liked Morgan..
glacier_kitty: (Default)
On Friday, we did go to see the ice sculptures..they're pretty cool, but standing around in the cold takes the fun out of it lol. On Saturday we went to the Museum of the North..cool as well, but that tired me out too..long covid/depression has made me lame. :P Cindy and Dean wanted to hike at Creamer's Field after that, but I went back home since I was tired. After that we had dinner and played Betrayal at House on the Hill (Jo won lol)

Yesterday we hiked up to Castner Glacier! (Along with everyone else in the Interior lol, so many people!) I can't believe I've lived here 15 years and had never been there haha (though it may not have been popular years ago, but it definitely is now). It's only a couple hours from Fairbanks! It was windy, but SUCH a gorgeous day!! Its biggest attraction is its ice cave, though part of it collapsed last summer. Good thing it's an easy hike, I'm SO out of shape lol. The ice cave was still really cool though, and went a long way under the glacier (one guy said he followed it for an hour, and found flowing water! We didn't have any flashlights though). Glacial ice is so cool to look at. There was a steep slope up the glacier me and Cindy and Dean adventured up to, which was exhausting, but satisfying. :P After hanging around the glacier awhile we drove home (Ryan had dinner waiting for us!). That was one of the funnest days I've had in a long time..I definitely needed that positivity. The total hike was 2.6 miles I think..nice! After dinner we played TWO rounds of Catan! Dean loves that game haha. It was really nice to finally go to bed :P

Today is Cindy and Dean's last day here, awww. :( We definitely had a good time though!

lots of pics! )

18 – Quilting Day: The oldest known quilting dates from 3400 BC! Has anyone ever made you a quilt or have you made your own? Have you ever bought a hand-made quilt? Mom has made me a couple quilts. Yeah, at least I think it was lol

19 – International Read To Me Day: created to boost literacy this day isn’t just for children. When was the last time you read out loud to someone? What was it you read? Did someone read aloud to you when you were a child? Some couples read to each other – if you have a significant other, is this something you do? Probably recently. Yeah, mom loved reading to Ryan and I when we were young

20 – International Day of Happiness: this was created by the United Nations to spread the idea that happitalism rather than capitalism should be spread around the world. Is happiness a choice? What makes you happy? What little thing can you do to make someone else happy? Did anything occur this month that made you particularly happy? It's complicated..with depression it's really hard. Cats, glaciers, books, etc. Compliment them, be kind, etc. Castner Glacier!
glacier_kitty: (Default)
Aunt Cindy and Uncle Dean got here Monday afternoon, yay! We talked and had dinner and just hung out. It was cool Jo finally got to meet them in person too!

Yesterday we hung out and played Mario Party haha until it was time to watch the Northern Lights! We had reservations at Aurora Pointe, a place outside of town that hosts tourists and anyone else who wants to see the aurora! They have snacks and board games to play while you wait for the lights to come out, and they have a live webcam on TV so you know when the lights are out too. The guides there also announce when the aurora has gotten good as well. They open at 10 and you can stay until 2 AM to watch the aurora. Thankfully, we got a pretty good showing! Not really any dancing, but green and stretched across the sky. It was also super windy, so it was FREEZING (I think it was 0 degrees with a -18 windchill!!). Cindy and Dean were still very happy they got to see the aurora though! I'm glad it cooperated :P (the guides said that was the best aurora they'd seen for a couple weeks..cool!)

the wind made it very hard to take pics, but here are a few! )

11 – World Plumbing Day: We take indoor plumbing for granted – until there's a problem with it. Have you ever suffered a major plumbing emergency? Have you ever tried to fix a plumbing issue on your own? Did you succeed? A few months ago the bottom of the toilet leaked, making the floor discolored and crunchy..I'm having an inspection later in the month, so they're FINALLY having to work on the floor. I've unclogged toilets, yay me :P

12 – Craft Month: Do you enjoy being creative? What crafts do you participate in? What crafts would you like to try out? No, mom didn't give me that gene :P

13 – Good Samaritan Day: Have you ever been a good Samaritan for a stranger? Has anyone ever been one for you? Do you think people are less likely to help out these days than in the past? Sure. Hmm, maybe in certain places, but a lot of people still want to help

14 – Crowdfunding Day: Did you know it dates back to the 19th century although the modern resurgence dates from the mid 1990s? Have you ever donated to a crowdfund? Have you ever asked people to donate to you? Do those birthday donations on Facebook count? I'm assuming GoFundMe counts? I don't think so?

15 – Brutus Day: Et tu, Brutus? Have you ever (figuratively) stabbed someone in the back? Has someone stabbed you in the back (also figuratively, unless someone actually stabbed you in the back)? Probably sometime in my life..

2. What's a food you used to not like but now you do? Onions
3. What's a food you enjoy eating both warm and cold? Bread
4. Are there any foods you can't get anymore? Why not? SoBe! I haven't found any in like two years..I found a thread on Reddit from five months ago and people were saying it's very hard to find, but it's still out there. I wonder if covid had anything to do with it..sad
5. What's your favorite "breakfast for dinner" (or "dinner for breakfast") food? I don't really do that..

Aunt Cindy and Uncle Dean are coming to visit in March!! They want to see the Northern Lights. Since they (and grandpa and Stephanie) came to visit in 2010, no other family has come to visit (they're missing out!). Yay, exciting! I hope they get to see the Northern Lights, seeing them on video definitely isn't the same

On Monday, we said bye to grandma and then Cindy and Dean drove mom and I to a hotel near Kansas City Airport (they left the next day to go back to Santa Fe)..much faster without fog slowing us down haha, and I saw the Missouri River for the first time! (That I can remember, anyway. :P) It's the longest river in North America! At the hotel, we put our stuff in the room and then went to dinner..there was a very unhappy looking flight attendant there, and she and one of the waitresses was talking about something to her. It must have been busy before we got there, because the waitress was frazzled and tired. Our food was slow to come out, but it's not like we were going anywhere, and we were like "it's fine!" when the waitress apologized. After we ate, the waitress said something like "how about dessert? It's on me, because you guys have been a breath of fresh air in this whirlwind of madness! You were the nicest table tonight!" Dessert for being kind?? Yes please! Haha. I asked what desserts they said, and what she said sounded like "New York salad cheesecake." I didn't know what a salad cheesecake was, but I was like "ok, I'll try the salad cheesecake." The waitress was like "uhh...uh...do you mean the New York STYLE cheesecake??" HAHA OMG we all DIED laughing! When she brought it I should have said "that's a weird looking salad!" haha. I'm glad we were able to make her night better lol. At one point in the elevator, the person we were in there with told mom and I that we looked like twins..wow haha

Yesterday we flew first to Seattle, and I worked my Weather Magic again, because it was sunny at the airport, but there were clouds all around it! How do I keep doing that?? Haha. Then we flew to Anchorage..on my side there was mostly just ocean and clouds, but it cleared up near Anchorage, and saw some familiar glaciers (Harvard, Columbia, Meares, etc). It was SO pretty!! On the flight to Fairbanks I saw Denali again, but the window was in a weird place, the sun was right there, and the wing was in the way, so I only got one picture (not that I NEED more pics of Denali, but I can't help it :P). As we got to Fairbanks, I saw that the Tanana River was frozen, but the Chena was open! I'm glad we got back relatively early (around 9:20-9:30), since I had to work today (they were happy to see me lol). I laid down in my bed and was like "ahhh, soft" LOL

pics from the flights! )

25. If you were given the ability to reform how your country’s leaders were chosen and how they serve, what would you change? Uhhh..I'm not political enough to answer this :P

26. Records, tapes, CDs, MP3s, streaming: which did you grow up with? What is good and bad about each? Tapes (they can be nostalgic, though it was annoying having to rewind them) and CDs (nice having a physical copy, but annoying when they get scratched) when I was a kid

27. If everyone said what they were actually thinking, what would happen to society? Chaos?? Haha

Today's trivia: Fried chicken originated in Scotland
glacier_kitty: (Default)
The storm last night cooled down the temperature somewhat..it might have been too cold for other Kansans, but I thought it felt AWESOME haha. We went walking in the courtyard when we visited grandma, and found some rocking chairs to sit in lol

They have a nice courtyard! We saw a red-tailed hawk fly by too! (Grandma loves birds, which I hadn't known, so she was very happy and said "thanks for visiting us!" hehe)

279139900_8228592913832458_3840553707976123345_n
My bed has curtains, grandma's has a hat :P

We also went to Barnes and Noble (why not :P) and I found a couple geocaches. Tomorrow we're driving back to Kansas City (we'll visit grandma again before we leave) and mom and I are staying overnight (it's easier for everyone, I think), and then leaving Tuesday afternoon to go back to Alaska. That was a fast trip! It was nice seeing everyone again, and maybe now I can visit more often since Kansas is closer than England haha

24. Do you prefer popular music or relatively unknown music? )
glacier_kitty: (Default)
On Wednesday, I woke up to a clear blue day! My Weather Wizardry strikes again. :P I saw Denali in the distance (when you fly direct to Seattle, you skirt around the Alaska Range) and the mountains just looked so nice. <3 I did see some pretty cool glaciers too! On the flights I watched Underwater and Mary Queen of Scots (I was four-poster bed hunting LOL). It was 11 something I think when I landed at Kansas City, and mom and Aunt Cindy picked us up..it usually only takes like an hour to get to Topeka, but it took longer because it was pretty foggy. Even though it was like 1 AM when I got to the house, I took a shower anyway, because flying is gross :P

Thursday I saw Julie and Dean, and their pets..Julie has two cats (Yoda and Beano) and two dogs (Teddy and Lucy). Cindy and Dean have a dog named Blanca (I met her before though). Lots of animals to pet!! Haha. Yoda is a beautiful tuxedo cat..it took her a few moments to warm up to me, which surprised Julie because it usually takes her longer (for mom it took like a day or two). Beano was much more skittish, so I was very surprised when later that night he jumped up onto the couch and demanded me to pet her haha, and was kneading a blanket next to me. Cats know I love them LOL. I visited grandma at the assisted care facility she lives at, which is a really nice place! Her room is spacious (she has a little four-poster bed, though without the top part..I joked that we should get her tiny curtains LOL) and the people who work there are really nice. Grandma said she's very happy being in the US again lol, and was happy to see me too. I think this was the day we went to Olive Garden, yummm

Yesterday we visited grandma again, but didn't do much else that was exciting. It was pretty windy though. Today we went downtown and went to a bookstore and a couple thrift shops (I got a cool lamp with ships on the lampshade!). Mom and I found a geocache, and almost got blown away by the wind!! It literally pushed you around if you weren't standing firmly! We went to Chipotle for lunch, then got supplies and food and stuff for grandma's party (her birthday is tomorrow, but Julie has to go to Colorado tomorrow, so we did the party today) and decorated a room at the care home. Aunt Gina drove up from Wichita, and then it was time to party! We had sandwiches, cupcakes, mimosas, and a LOT of laughter haha. There was also a thunderstorm that came by! It was fun, but tiring. It was great seeing grandma having so much fun though :D

some pics! )

20. What do a lot of people have very strong opinions about, even though they know very little about it? Politics?

21. Who in your life is the worst at using technology? Dad, grandma, etc

22. What was the biggest realization you had about yourself? Learning I was asexual, for one

23. What memory of yours feels real but is most likely false? I've wondered if my memory of me swinging and one of my parents telling me to comb my hair and me saying "no!" was actually a dream..

Dec. 31: Mom and I boarded the plane to Anchorage at 5 something..even though the flight was less than an hour, I still felt gross. We had a few hours to kill in Anchorage, so we hung out at the lounge upstairs (mom and Dana both have slept there lol) and had dinner. Even though it was dark when we landed, I could see there was no snow on the ground. A couple hours later we looked out the window and it was snowing like crazy haha..wow. Eventually we boarded the plane to Seattle at 9 or 10 something..I tried sleeping for like an hour, but it's just too hard and uncomfortable, so I gave up and watched Into the Storm instead. The flight attendants didn't do anything special for the New Year, but I'm sure they didn't want to bother the other people who were trying to rest

Jan. 1: We got to Seattle at 3 something in the morning..ewww. There were people everywhere just sacked out on the floor and chairs and stuff..unless I was in a secluded quiet place, I don't think I could do that. We had another long layover there, but we just had to hang out until everything opened (I felt SO bad for the poor people that had to be there at 4:30 D:). At the place we had breakfast (I felt like I was constantly eating haha) they played modern songs like "Umbrella" and "Can't Feel My Face"..and then they played "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" by Celine Dion?!? Oh my goodness, that was one of my favorite songs of hers when I was a kid! I don't know if I've ever heard that song in public (if so, it was in the 90s LOL), but it made me really happy and nostalgic! We left for Denver at maybe 6 or 7 something..I had a whole row to myself, so I could actually lay down and sleep somewhat better! I tried watching the rest of Into the Storm, but I couldn't find it! Maybe that flight didn't have it?? Weird. We finally got into Denver a couple hours later, but we still had to drive the 40 or so miles to where we're staying, Loveland. We were so tired lol. Even though we traveled the farthest, we were still the first ones at the house we're staying at. We needed a nap anyway lol. Eventually Aunt Cindy, Uncle Dean, Aunt Gina, Aunt Julie, her husband Kerry (I'd never met him before!) and her kids Joelle and Jessalyn showed up (Jordan actually has a house in a nearby town, so he's not staying with us). It was so nice to see everybody again! We stayed up late talking and then went to bed, which was awesome LOL

Jan. 2: Happy birthday, Apsley Cherry-Garrard!! <3 The bridal party were doing a bunch of fun things, so the rest of us hung out and were lazy haha. We had told everyone about geocaching, so eventually mom and I went to find some caches with Gina. She'd never done it before, and she LOVED it haha. We found five, yay! After that we went to a used bookstore, where of course I found too many books, and Gina payed for all of them as a Christmas present! Aww, how nice lol. After that we went back to the house, and hung out more and ordered Thai food..yumm. Julie and the others eventually came home..they were talking about the prayer things they were going to say, and someone suggested that she should rap them..and she DID, with Joelle tapping out a beat on the table. It was AWESOME and SO funny. I love that even though she's pretty religious, she has a great sense of humor about it as well (that's something I liked about Paulette too). We also watched this hilarious video of this Irish kid trying to convince her mom to let her go to the pub ("but I'm SIX!!!" *holds fingers up*) And then it was time for bed..yay :P

Today, Jan. 3: Wedding day! We Facetimed grandma for a little bit..I bet she was sad she couldn't come. :( When mom and I saw how nicely dressed and gorgeous everyone else looked, we just looked at each other and cringed. We weren't casual or anything, just..Plain Old Alaskans LOL. The wedding was at a church (Julie and her kids are Catholic)..I finally got to see Jordan, yay! I'm glad he remembered me. :P His bride Sara was absolutely gorgeous. They did Mass (I think that's what it was) as part of the wedding, which was a little tedious, but interesting (I didn't know they bowed as much as they did!). Julie's ex-husband and Jordan's birth father was there, which must have been really awkward..he's not really a nice person, and showed up to rehearsals yesterday drunk..eesh. Jordan and Sara looked completely shocked when they were pronounced man and wife haha. The other people stood around in the church and talked, but me and the others had to drive the 30 minutes back to Loveland (the wedding was in Longmont) to go to the venue and set up everything. We had like an hour and a half, which was just enough time, phew. By this time me and the others were starving haha. I finally got to meet Sara..I couldn't have said something normal like "hi, I'm Heather, nice to meet you!"..noo, I said "I've been waiting to meet you for hours!" *cringe* She was nice though, and Jordan thanked us for coming so far from home. We had food and cake and then it was time for dancing. Mom and I were just like "mehh" haha (especially since mom wasn't feeling well), but I had to go up when the Macarena came on! (The glass of champagne I had helped too LOL.) I had to teach Gina how to do it haha. I didn't know the moves to the other songs though, and I feel like I'd look stupid compared to everyone else, so I didn't go back, even though it looked kinda fun. After an hour or two of that mom and I were bored and tired of the loud craziness, so we left..yeah, we're lame LOL. I'd much rather be sitting here in my PJs (sorry Jordan :P). It's nice to relax after a long day. :) I took a couple pics, but my phone's battery is lame and died early, so maybe the others can send me theirs, so I'll wait to post them

Tomorrow we're going to Denver to see an exhibition of Monet's art..Cindy is very into art, otherwise I wouldn't really care lol. Maybe we'll go out to eat at a nice restaurant too ;)

a shiny new 366 day meme, yay! )

Yesterday we indeed went to the plaza downtown and had lunch and went shopping..I found the PERFECT shirt..it's blue and has mountains and says "Santa Fe." It was screaming my name when I saw it haha. I also went to a "new" bookstore (and was happy to see many people shopping there). I like "used" bookstores better..they're more interesting (still won't say no to a bookstore though lol). After that we just hung out at Cindy and Dean's house. They watched The Worst Journey in the World docudrama with me (my 5th time!! I wish I had thought of it sooner, so Julie and the others could have watched it too..oh well :P). Now that I know more about Cherry and Antarctic history in general, it made more sense (like meeting Angela and the quartz thing and stuff). At the end they showed a pic of Cherry I had only seen in Sara Wheeler's book, so I had to take a screenshot to share LOL. When I went to my little trailer thing where I slept I was super hyper and just kept yelling "stick it!!!" haha! It's crazy Cherry still has that big of an effect on me..fun though :P

Today we drove back to Payson..so sad leaving, even if we had an extra day. It was super fun and I'm glad we could get together again! We stopped at the Petrified Forest again to stretch our legs..yeah, I am officially tired of looking at petrified wood now LOL. Still nice to get out of the car though. We got back in Payson just in time for it to START RAINING AND SNOWING AGAIN WTF. It's supposed to do both all week!! Wow, the weather is usually nicer than this here! Not cool :P

Merry Christmas! Yesterday it snowed like crazy..beautiful, but I'd still rather have warmth and sun lol. I got a quilt mom made with cats on it (her very first quilt, it looks awesome! I'll get a pic one of these days lol), a wallet, and an Amazon gift card from Dana (I've been saving up books there till now, since I knew I'd probably get a gift card haha. Must add to my polar exploration collection :P)

Tomorrow we're driving to Cindy and Dean's house in Santa Fe! Not only will it be nice to see everyone again, but I'm also very tired of being cooped up in the house lol. Hopefully we'll get lots of pics!

Speaking of pics, I looked at a lot of old pics today..it's so weird, and sad since I can't remember a lot of the events in the pics (or very little). I'm taking some back to Alaska with me, I like having them around lol. Here's one of me and Snowy when he was a kitten!:

Aww. I wanted to take a pic of this picture (haha) last time I was here, but didn't for whatever reason. I made sure to this time! Mom made that cat outfit I'm wearing LOL..as you can see, I've always loved cats :P

Tomorrow mom and Ryan and I are flying to Arizona for our vacation! (The flight leaves at 7 something AM, so we have to get up early..ughhh. D:) While we're there we'll also go to Santa Fe to visit Aunt Cindy and Uncle Dean..Aunt Julie and Gina are going to meet us there too! I saw Cindy and Dean a couple years ago, but I haven't seen the other two (and Julie's children) in years! It'll be cool to see them again. I'll also see Dana again, since we'll be there at the same time! I so love that we can see each other in person more often than once every few years lol (how did dad manage to buy a house in the same town her husband's parents live in?! We'll never get over that lol). One of my favorite things about going to Payson is looking at old pics I haven't seen in years (it's weird though..my life is so completely different now that it feels like my Texas life happened to another person, in another lifetime haha). Dad said there's lots to look through, yay! We have Internet at the house now (we can turn it off when we leave and pay like $10 a month, so that's nice). Looking forward to nice weather and more sunlight too lol. It shall be fun :D

Today's trivia: Yakutsk, Russia, is the biggest city built on continuous permafrost. Its population is almost 300,000 and its average winter temperature is (−30 °F), which makes Yakutsk the coldest city of its size or greater in the world

Yesterday we went to REI to get me hiking boots to leave at the house in Payson. We were gonna go hiking, but I got a scrape on my ankle from tripping off this grate thing at Zane Grey's house and the boot rubbed against it, so we went to the dog park instead. The animal shelter is there too, so mom and I went there while Cindy and Dean exercised Blanca. I got to pet and cuddle with kitties hehe yay. :D One was very friendly and loving and purred like crazy when I picked her up. It was nice to get a cat fix hehe. For dinner we went to an African restaurant..interesting flavors! I'd never been to one before. We found a couple caches too

Today it's been cold and SNOWING. Not like a few flakes, a true snowstorm with accumulation. Ughhh..I went on vacation to get AWAY from snow haha! Mom and I still found a cache (must keep our streak alive! Haha..we've had 9 straight days with caches. :D Everyone has a stats page that keeps track of stuff like that) and went to another used bookstore (Cindy was at an art class and Dean just stayed home). It was so weird, it was literally across the street from a place we found a cache yesterday!! Wow, being observant fail. :P The bookstore wasn't as nice as the other one, but I still found some books to read (I think I'm gonna need a separate suitcase for all the books I've bought so far haha!). Then we just went back to the house..we went to dinner after Cindy got home and now it's relaxing time!

Tomorrow mom and I drive back to Payson..I hope the roads will be ok..
