1. When did you most recently (or most memorably) repair (or temporarily fix) an article of clothing? I let mom do that lol
2. When were you most recently somewhat annoyed by your own forgetfulness? Most days, I feel like haha..too many things stored in my brain :P
3. What are some of your favorite words to use in place of curse words? Heck, jeez, etc
4. How was your week? The beginning was stressful, but it got somewhat better at the end
5. Among items on your to-do list, which could you take care of right now, with minimal effort? I could do laundry, but I really don't want to get up right now LOL

Today at the bookstore started slow, then got really busy in the afternoon (it's Free Book Friday for kids, for one). The customers keep saying how great it looks and thank us for our hard work, so nice! Some people from the other programs came to help shelve books, so I sorted them and they shelved them..we should have done that from the beginning, way more effective! We hired someone new called Morgan (one of my favorite names!), and when I gave her a stack I told her what genre it was and she would say "you got it, boss!" haha. She's as cool as her name. :D I love how much the Fairbanks community supports us!

Yay, Drew Lynch finally posted a video from his Santa Fe show!

His interactions with the interpreters was one of the best parts of the show, especially when she signed his stutter! It added a unique element to the show, and I imagine Brad was having a great time too lol. It's ok, Drew, I'm short too! :P (I LOVE the blue lights on the curtains, it reminds me of the Northern Lights!

30. What concert do you really want to go to? )

I got home very early this morning and now I can do a recap since I'm not socializing/exhausted haha. I wasn't sure how much time mom and I would spend with Aunt Cindy and Uncle Dean since their friends (Pam and Ken) were visiting too, but we actually spent a lot of our time with them! They were super nice and didn't at all object to having to share Cindy and Dean with us haha. One of the days Pam and I added each other on Facebook and she fistbumped me and said "we're friends now!" Heck yes! Haha. We spent a lot of time shopping downtown (with me admiring all the shops' curtains LOL). There were LOTS of tourists around..for some reason most of the time it was super windy, but otherwise it was sunny and nice. Downtown is dangerous because there are too many things to buy haha. I kept wondering why I was so out of breath doing simple things, until someone said something about the altitude (7,199 feet)..ah yes, that explained it haha. It's also SUPER dry, even drier than Fairbanks! Drinking water didn't help much, but lip balm did, thankfully. We also went to a couple bookstores (one with thousands of books in Spanish..the most in the country, according to the owner), but unfortunately, the one I usually went to was not in business anymore..the last time I was there the owner talked about how much he wanted to retire, so he did (another bookstore owner said he moved to California). It was a cool bookstore though..I wonder what he did with all his books? The library had a little store, with amazingly had a copy of The Worst Journey in the World, which I made Cindy buy LOL..she was like "every time you visit, I end up with a stack of books!" haha. I hope she likes it!

On Thursday I was excited but nervous to see Drew Lynch! Another comedian opened for him, and she owned horses, and said her pronouns were neigh/nem, with I thought was HILARIOUS lol. Eventually it was Drew's turn! He always opens his shows by making fun of or making observations about where he's performing. He mentioned being blown away but the crazy wind, blaming the altitude for stuttering, making fun of the town Truth or Consequences, and also having to use lip balm. There was also someone who was deaf in the audience, so there were a couple ASL interpreters to help him. When Drew came onstage and saw her he was like "oh no, I have to try not to stutter, would that look like a seizure in ASL??" That added part made the show even funnier..I can't remember the deaf person's name, so I'll go with Gary..he and the interpreters had a lot of attention from Drew (both of the interpreters were having fun lol). My favorite part of the show was when Drew stuttered, looked at the interpreter, and said "did you just sign my stutter?!" That's a huge reason I like him so much, he uses humor for his situation (like I do with autism). He's not just another guy trying to be funny..I feel like he would feel vulnerable, but he doesn't seem fazed. I also like how good he is at ad-libbing, like when he saw the interpreters. He has a fun laugh, though the volume was too loud. Mom said she had trouble following him sometimes, because he would start to say something and stop and change what he was going to say, but I'm sure that's because his stutter wouldn't let him say it..that would be frustrating, but he says something like "oh you know!," and continues on. I didn't understand or like ALL of his jokes, but it was still really fun! (I was super exhausted after it was over, too much stimulation!) He likes to post funny parts of his shows on YouTube, and I can't wait to see what he posts from this show! (Hopefully his interactions with the interpreters!) I'll have to share it if he does post it. At the end of the show, he said "you guys were f-ing awesome!" Why thank you. :P Haha. I'm glad he had fun too!

I flew home yesterday, but mom went on to Florida to visit grandpa (he's having cancer treatments and sometimes doesn't feel well). I HAVE to go back to work tomorrow, so I told mom to tell him I said "hi." It was nice to get away for a few days after working so hard during the move! I'm sure there's lots to do still though. :P I'm pretty sure Curti grew while I was gone, he's getting so big!!

17. What makes you angry? Animal abuse, slow internet, being mean for no reason, etc

18. What five things do you want to do on your next birthday? I'd love to take a plane ride to Black Rapids Glacier (there is a company that does that now!), eat cake, open presents, shop at Barnes and Noble haha, relax online

19. Your most recent dream: I can't really remember..
glacier_kitty: (Default)
1. What was the nature of your most recent change in diet or eating habits? Hmm..being sick a couple months ago?
2. What do you consider (in order of importance) when finding a new hairstylist or barber? I usually just try to find somewhere, and if I like it go back to them
3. Which of your childhood friends would you like most to hear from this weekend? *shrugs* Amanda? I'm surprised she even accepted my friend request haha, we kinda parted ways in a weird way years ago lol
4. When have you most recently been asked to drive someone somewhere, and when have you most recently needed someone else to drive you somewhere? Never, because I don't drive and today, since mom and I don't have a car here
5. How’ve you been sleeping lately? Pretty well until it gets light again, then it's harder. I like that there's an AC in my room in the AirBnB we're staying in, since I sleep better when it's cooler

I've been far too exhausted to write a proper update, but I've been having fun! It was cool seeing Drew Lynch in person! More on that later, but here's a picture of the stage!

I love the blue lights on the curtains. *swoons* Hopefully I'll be less exhausted soon when I'm not walking around and socializing all day lol

1. How much black do you have in your wardrobe? Quite a bit..it goes with anything lol
2. When did your pen prove mightier than the sword? Hmm..when defending myself against bullies?
3. How do you feel about Mexican food? Love it! It's not super great in Fairbanks, so the last time I was in DFW Airport (a couple years ago?) I had some and about melted because I'd forgotten how good it tasted haha (especially the queso *drools*)
4. In what situation have you had recently to hold your horses? Yesterday, waiting to go to dinner with mom..I can get impatient waiting lol
5. What are your favorite words beginning with Z? Zephyr, zoniferous, zest, etc

At work, we've all been strongly encouraged to take a few days off, so we don't get burned out/hurt, etc from moving..Vicki showed me the days in May I could take off to go somewhere with mom if I wanted to. I know that the comedian Drew Lynch has been touring (I don't normally care about stand-up comedy, but he is genuinely funny, especially when he jokes about his stutter lol), so I looked at his tour schedule, and what do you know, he'll be in Santa Fe on May 15! Unfortunately Cindy and Dean already have guests staying with them that week, so we're going to stay at an Airbnb downtown (we'll probably see them at some point though), just a couple blocks from the theater Drew's performing at. I LOVE downtown Santa Fe, so that'll be cool. I told mom to watch some of Drew's videos, so she knows what his humor is like. I chose seats on the mezzanine up front, so I don't have to worry about my view being blocked haha. It'll be a nice little break in between moving! It's cool Drew's doing a show on the week I'm taking time off, yay!

Curti got neutered this week, which went well. He's gotten so big and handsome now! Here's a pic of what he looks like at 10 every night, when he goes wild and runs around haha

I recently discovered the comedian Drew Lynch..he was hit in the throat by a softball (ouch!!) when he was younger, and now has a stutter because of that. He was on America's Got Talent in 2015..he could barely say anything then without stuttering, but he turned that into a strength, and incorporated that into his comedy. I'm not a huge fan of stand-up comedy, but he is SO funny!! I especially loved this line: "I have the hardest time at the drive-thru, because you gotta say the order fast and you're talking into an intercom, I don't know why I work there!" OMG SO funny, I love how he can laugh at himself, like I do with autism ("man, I'm being so autistic today!!" Haha). It's definitely better to laugh at yourself than get depressed about it, and he does it so well! He was very brave, I want to die when I stutter haha (the other day I tried saying "mesmerized," but instead said "mem-mem-mem-mem"! Yikes! I hate when it comes out of nowhere lol). I love his laugh and how he laughs at himself, and just seems to have so much fun! He got all the way to the final round too, and got second place..so awesome!

I found this one pretty funny too:

This was 2019, you can see how much he's improved! I love people with disabilities being brave enough to get out there and do awesome things! He's very good at improv too, like someone from the audience will say something he'll find amusing, and go off of that and not miss a beat. I'm glad he decided to go on AGT, and show us his humor! Awesome and inspirational and such a cool guy :D

Yesterday was the Midnight Sun Festival, which was canceled last year because of covid. I went with mom, Ryan and Jo. They made it smaller, and crammed everything on one street, a parking lot and the plaza, which was super annoying, because it was very crowded..you think they would have spread things out more since there were less vendors, but that would have made too much sense LOL. I visited that coin/bookstore of course, which I hadn't been to in a long time, and found a super cool book from the 1800s about sledging on glaciers..definitely a treasure! They took a lot of Candy's books and postcards to sell after she died (she was a huge collector of vintage Alaska things and had a garage sale for years), and had to grab a couple postcards too (not that I don't have a ton of them already :P). We had milkshakes, but the lines for the regular foods were SO long and we didn't want to wait forever in that crazy crowded space, so we went to a restaurant and ordered pizza. OMG..that was probably the most disgusting pizza any of us had ever eaten. It was like they poured a vat of fake cheese over the pizza..it had a weird, rubbery texture that stuck to the roof of your mouth. SO gross!! (It tasted worse as it cooled off too.) We wished we had stood in line instead! We laughed about it afterwards, might as well find the humor in it lol. We won't get pizza there again though :P
