Hello 2026! Amazingly, people in my parents' neighborhood shot up fireworks..I watched some from the warmth of the house LOL. Last month was the coldest December Fairbanks had seen since 1980, with an average temperature of -21.5 degrees..crazy!

Curti and I have been spending the holiday break well:

Awww, somehow he keeps getting cuter! <3 Definitely one reason I can't live without a cat..I feel our connection deeply when he chooses to sit in my lap/shoulder, etc lol

the new 365 day meme: january! )

Wow, only one day left of 2025! This has definitely been a HARD year. The last week has been super cold, in the -30s and -40s. The ice fog was so bad you couldn't see the other side of the lake. Mom and I went to town today because it was "only" -27, and the next few days are going to be in the -30s and -40s again..the high for Saturday is forecasted to be -43!! Depending what weather site you look at, the lows could be in the -50s!!! I've never felt -50 before, but I'm curious to experience it haha. I'm supposed to work Friday and Saturday, but we close if the weather is -40 or colder at 7 AM, so Lucie will probably tell me to stay home. This is definitely one of the longest, harshest cold snaps I've experienced! Curti has been more snuggly too hehe, he's so cute. <3 Here are the highs and lows of 2025!

Lows: Losing Abby in March, which was devastating. We were soulmates..she stole my heart as soon as she sat in my lap at the animal shelter. She loved everyone! At the end she was so weak she'd just fall over when trying to walk on my bed, and had that "I'm done" look in her eyes, and she was SO skinny..I couldn't watch her suffer like that. I sobbed SO hard at the vet, and mom and the vet did as well..I told her how much I loved her and what a great cat she was. I watched her last breath and then she was gone. I got her cremated and have tattoos of her pawprints on my arm. I cried SO hard again when I walked into my apartment without Abby, and saw her water and food bowls on the floor. It was recently after that I went to bed and felt something at my feet..I'm sure it was Abby, telling me she was still with me, just in a different way, and another time I thought I heard her meow. Oof, that always make me very sad when I think about it. I'll never forget her <3

The move at work, which was very rocky and tiring, and then Vicki saying she was quitting after the move happened (I still miss her SO much). Bill and I felt abandoned during the summer and, the managers seemed to do everything in their power to make us suffer. Everyone was always complaining and hardly any customers came in anymore. Bill and I were about ready to quit! Amanda only lasted like a month, we were abandoned again, until we finally got a temporary manager. That's something I hope I never experience again. I hope the manager starting in January is nice!

I sprained my ankle in March. Very painful! In August I exhausted myself and didn't feel well, I had awful face pain and a migraine and a sore tooth, and had to get the tooth pulled. I then threw my back out, all in the same week! I'd rather not experience that again either lol

Dad's mental health hasn't been great since last summer, and his neuropathy is worse..hard to see :(

Highs: After Abby died, I started looking for a new cat. I looked at pictures online, went to a shelter, etc, but there wasn't an instant connection like there was with Abby. One day a picture of a tiny kitten was posted online..I showed mom the picture, and we both felt a connection, a very good feeling like "this kitty is the one!" We cleaned my apartment and got new cat stuff, and then met the owner in town. The kitty was meowing and scared, but as I held him, he relaxed and started purring. I'd been chosen! (Mom originally said no male cats because they might spray..of course a male cat chose me haha.) He explored around my apartment while I thought of a name. I said "hmm, Wilson? Nah," and then thought "can I shorten curtain?" I wrote it out and I was like "oh, curti!" I called it out to him and he responded right away! I said it again and he answered again, which in total happened in like 10 seconds..he approved! I knew he was smart from the very first day. He can be a handful, but he's SO cute and sweet, and has a fun personality. When he curls up in my lap, I think "just another reason I can't live without a cat" haha. I feel the connection deeply when he's on my lap! I'm very glad he chose me <3

I saw the play The Fourposter in April, which I never thought Fairbanks would do. Super cool!

I went to Santa Fe in May and hung out with Aunt Cindy and Uncle Dean and their friends, and saw Drew Lynch live. He's so good at improv and isn't afraid to laugh at his stutter. Pretty cool!

In June, as a birthday present, I went flying around Black Rapids Glacier and the surrounding area with mom and her friend. I wish I had seen more of the glacier, but I still drooled over the snowy landscape..Alaska is just so pretty!

Going to the World Eskimo-Indian Olympics with mom and Ingrid, and helping with the blanket toss, and going to Music With Reindeer with them as well

Those are the major things, at least! I can't wait to do my end of year book post tomorrow, I look forward to it all year haha!

1. Did you get an allowance as a kid, and if so, how much was it? Yeah, it was probably $.50 or $1.00 or something like that
2. How old were you when you had your first job, and what was it? 19, at Forget-Me-Not Books. I've done a lot of growing up there since then!!
3. Which do you do better: save money or spend money? Spend money haha
4. Are people more likely to borrow money from you, or are you more likely to borrow from them? Maybe me borrow from someone..it doesn't really happen a lot though..
5. What's the most expensive thing you've ever bought? My bed, vacations, the first edition of Worst Journey, etc

A couple moose came to visit this morning!

They heard me open the door and looked over at me. Curti was VERY intrigued, he was creeping slowly on the deck haha

26. How have you improved yourself this year? I just..somehow feel stronger after everything that's happened this year. It's nice being able to say "have a good day!" to customers too!
glacier_kitty: (meowy christmas)
This morning, Ryan made everyone scrambled eggs and cinnamon rolls, and after we ate he made a drink called sahlab, a Middle Eastern "pudding," made with milk, sugar, vanilla, etc, topped with cinnamon and I think pistachios. It tasted like cinnamon-y warm milk. It made definitely made me full for awhile haha. After that we opened presents..there were a lot more under the tree this year, it seemed like. Of course Curti had to come check everything out lol. Jo got me a bowl he MADE with Curti's name on it and pawprints on the bottom, with glacial blue colors! It's SO cool, it looks professionally made! I also got cat themed PJs and socks, a Doordash gift card, a Barnes and Noble gift card (which I got early, because it was going to snow the next day and then get super cold again), a booklight (yay, I can read on the bus if it's too dark now!), a bookstore jigsaw puzzle, some plush dragons from How to Train Your Dragon (I guess mom knows how much I love that movie haha), and an Amazon gift card from Dana (there might be more, but I can't remember at the moment :P). A great haul for everyone this year! Later we had a pot roast dinner..Ryan made SUPER fancy carrots, with cream fraiche and other stuff on them..I am definitely full now lol (mom got a popcorn maker, and thought about using it tonight, but we are WAY too full..maybe we'll try again tomorrow :P). Last year mom and I had the stomach flu during Christmas, and had to delay opening presents..this Christmas was definitely way more fun LOL

pics from the day! )

22. Some things you want to start doing: Probably do housework more often..I'm just so tired a lot of the time though :P

23. The most valuable lesson you've learned this year: I am stubborn and can definitely get through a lot..it was definitely a hard year, especially with Abby dying and the move at work. I hope 2026 will be better!

24. Your favorite holiday traditions: Opening presents, yummy food, listening to Trans-Siberian Orchestra, (not a Christmas song, but one of my favorite songs right now is "Night Castle"..I love the guitars and of course the lyric "stairways hidden behind curtains" haha), etc

25. Your feelings and beliefs about the holidays: They're exhausting, but fun too. The stores start putting out Christmas things earlier every year, it seems like O_o

Yikes!

Earlier my parents and I were having our regular Sunday strawberry milkshakes..we were by the pellet stove, and then dad walked over to the living room and said he saw a firetruck. Mom then walked over and must have said something about smoke, and then I came over, looked up and saw this:
601975767_33946336484964748_970978433907255447_n
Yikes! Mom said she saw flames, but it looked more like the sunset to me. We were worried someone was losing their house, right before Christmas..it was also -30, definitely not a good time for a fire. Mom and I bundled up and walked to the end of the street, where various first responder vehicles were. Here's a closer view:

601413869_33946336491631414_5119972817868723022_n
Up close, we could tell it wasn't the house that was burning, phew! Mom asked a (very handsome :P) firefighter who walked by about the fire, and he said it was a shed, and that all the people, animals and the house were safe. I'm not sure how the fire started, but they got pretty lucky. I'm always thankful for firefighters, they are amazing!

Curti loves rolling around on my clean sheets!
600181700_33866725969592467_6686471802746434843_n
He'll eat catnip, but it doesn't really do anything to him..clean sheets though? He's in heaven haha. He is an impressively long kitty too lol, wow :P

At work yesterday and Friday we were open until 7, but no one came in after 5:30, for both me and Bill..pointless staying open that late, but you can never know for certain. I won't be at work again until next year?? Oh my! It was definitely a crazy year for the bookstore, I hope 2026 is kinder!

Happy solstice! Tomorrow will be 7 seconds longer! :D

1. If you were Santa Claus, what might you change about your job without destroying the season’s traditions? I'd go through some type of a portal instead of down the chimney haha
2. If you were Santa Claus, what snacks would you like children to leave out for you? Chocolate chip cookies, gingerbread men, brownies, etc
3. If you were Santa Claus, how would you spend December 26? Sleeping for a very long time, and giving the reindeer some extra pets :P
4. If you were Santa Claus, what would you put under your own tree? Books, cat shirts, gift cards, etc
5. If you were Santa Claus, what songs would be on the playlist you listened to in your sleigh Christmas Eve? "Wizards in Winter," "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo," "A Mad Russian's Christmas" (I miiight like Trans-Siberian Orchestra haha), "The 12 Pains of Christmas" (such a fun parody!), etc

This is Curti's "I want to play!" face
594582518_33661894986742234_1428724010948745768_n
He was looking at the laser pointer in my hand, he LOVES chasing the red dot haha (he's 1 year old this month, wow!!)

Yesterday at work Bill and Juella (the temporary manager) were talking about the move, and Bill said something about me taking time off in the middle of the move, and I chimed in and confirmed it because Shelby said everyone should take time off during the move, to get some rest so we're not overwhelmed. Juella was like "oh, Shelby said you guys blew them off and didn't come in!" WHAT!! I was there in the staff meeting when Shelby said to take time off and Vicki approved it ahead of time. Is that why they treat us so terribly?? That's a lie and SO messed up..everyone is definitely tired of Shelby and Lucie, ugh. At least today is another First Friday 50% off sale, where the bookstore is open until 8. Hopefully lots of people will come and do Christmas shopping!

I'm ALARMED at how many people I see wearing just a hoodie and jeans in below zero weather..that is so dangerous, what if your car breaks down, or somehow get stuck outside?? (Maybe they have extra clothes in their car, but still.) Wind chills as low as 55 below are expected in the next couple days. D: D: Good thing it's the weekend and mom can drive me to work, it would be awful standing outside in that!

So Christmasy! I can't believe how big he is now, he's very heavy haha. He was naughty and somehow pushed the giant turkey plate off the table, which shattered on the floor! He's not allowed on the table, but does it anyway to get attention :P

It may start getting dark at 2 or 3 PM now, but the sunrises/sunsets are great!

So pretty!

For the past three or so weeks my pleasant, regular bus driver was replaced with a VERY unpleasant lady, who hated everyone and everything and barely even looked at you when you got on the bus. She kicked off my friend who asked if she could be let on the bus because it was cold..she LOST it and was like "I HAD TO TO THE BATHROOM!!! I DON'T WANT TO BE IN A BAD MOOD BECAUSE OF YOU!! Don't tell me how to do my job! Get off my bus!" Awful. D: I could just feel the bad vibes coming off of her (there have been lots of complaints about her, but apparently won't fire her because they're short on drivers). Finally this week the regular driver came back and when I got on I said "nice to see you!" and he said "thank you!" The atmosphere on the bus was totally changed and everyone was super happy lol. He is definitely appreciated!

Work was pretty busy yesterday, yay! Velma Wallace (author of Two Old Women, Bird Girl, etc) came in and did some Christmas shopping lol

1. What do you see when you are looking out of the window closest to you? A house, trees
2. Who was the last person who came into your room? Besides myself, maybe mom?
3. What is the most predominant colour around you? White, with blue mixed in
4. What is right behind you? A pillow and a wall
5. What is on today's calendar sheet? I worked, and now I'm relaxing at my parents' house. How is it Friday already??

Curti put his front paws on one of my bedposts, which touched the lights I have around it (he chewed the cord, so they don't work anymore *sniff*), and they lit up for a second or two! It was really cool! That's definitely when you know it's dry in Fairbanks :P

Another big donation day tomorrow at the bookstore! I hope we get LOTS of cool "new" books, everyone's beyond tired of looking at the ones that have been on the shelf since we moved haha. On Halloween, a kid recognized me from the bookstore, and a regular customer came in today and said one of her kids recognized me..I was like "that was your kid??" I was busy handing out candy and didn't get a good look at her. Her mom said one of her relatives lives on a nearby street, how cool! Definitely a small big state :P

1. When did someone make you an offer you couldn’t refuse? We have an interim Bookstore Manager at work, who has volunteered the past two or three years, and she's very good with processes and organizing, so she'd helped out a LOT this week (someone said she was rude and bossy at another job, but she's been great at the bookstore, thanking us for all our hard work). One thing I was like "YES" to was having my own cart (I shelve the fiction and DVDs/CDs) that no one else shelves from. Couldn't say no to that, I hate when other people shelve and mess the sections up lol
2. How do you feel about Italian food? SO good haha
3. When did you last attend a wedding? 2020, my cousin Jordan's
4. What do you know about organized crime in your city? Nothing, but I see what I assume are gang signs graffitied in various places
5. If you’ve been to Las Vegas, how did you like it? If you haven’t, how do you imagine you’d like it? I feel like it would be loud and flashy and lively lol

Here are Curti's pawprints in the snow!
569797730_33011913661740373_3270512018472857664_n
He was not a fan :P (he's way too smart, he somehow knew today was the day we go to my parents' house, and stayed under the bed instead of greeting me when I came home. I had to lure him out with a laser pointer, which he LOVES..I can hide it from him and press the button on it, and he'll immediately be like "I know that sound!! Where is it??" haha)

Because I love lists, here are the songs I've picked up on Shazam so far! (I'm loving this app!)
"Immigrant Song"-Led Zeppelin (I was testing out the app and just picked a song that came to mind lol)
"Holiday"-Green Day
"When You Were Young"-The Killers
"Nutshell"-Alice in Chains
"Helena"-My Chemical Romance
"But Not Tonight"-Depeche Mode
"Lovesong"-The Cure
"The Killing Moon"-Echo & the Bunnymen
"Party Train"-The Gap Band
"Only You"-Yaz
"Mountains"-Prince & the Revolution
"It's Goin' Down," from The Descendants 2
"(Don't Fear) the Reaper"-Blue Oyster Cult (I thought the guitar solo in the middle was a different song for some reason lol)
"Zeitgeist"-Black Sabbath
"Caruso"-Josh Groban
"Sway"-Dean Martin
La traviata, Act I: "Libiamo ne' lieti calici"-Verdi (I was at an Italian restaurant for these last three lol)
"California Sun"-The Rivieras
"Get a Job"-The Silhouettes. "Yip yip yip yip yip ma ma ma ma"?! Haha what?? O_o

1. Do you ever wonder if the way you see things visually aren't how other people see them? I have definitely wondered that before! I was shocked to learn not everyone sees halos around lights, it's just a "side effect" of astigmatism when not wearing glasses! So weird haha
2. What kind of sounds are the most annoying? Popping/chewing gum, snoring/constantly sniffing, saxophones, etc. One of my coworkers CONSTANTLY groans/mutters to himself which has been driving me INSANE. It would be mean to say something though, he probably doesn't even realize he's doing it
3. When walking through a store, do you shop with your hands by touching/feeling the texture of things? If it's something I'm curious about
4. If you could only smell three scents for the rest of your life, what would they be? Books, evergreen trees, rain
5. What sorts of things do you savor when eating them? Strawberry milkshakes, chocolate chip cookies, bread my brother makes, etc

My cousin Jordan's wife Sarah had another baby yesterday! Her name is Annaka Catherine Pfannenstiel. That's a pretty cool name! Hopefully I can meet both their kids someday, they're not around when I go to Kansas lol

Curti weighs 12 pounds now! I miss being able to hold him with one hand hehe

oct 2-3 )
glacier_kitty: (Default)
1. Do you consider yourself to be a good housekeeper? Why or why not? Not especially, I'm tired when I get home from work, and Curti loves knocking things over haha
2. Are there any household chores that you enjoy doing? If so, what and why? Laundry is the most tolerable to me, I can spread it out instead of doing it all at once
3. Which household chore frustrates/angers you the most? Cleaning out the litterbox is annoying and gross lol, and I don't really like cleaning the bathroom either..it can be gross too :P
4. When doing household chores, what do you do to make them seem less of a "chore"? Talk to myself or Curti, maybe sing a favorite song haha
5. Which chore do you find yourself doing most often, and why? The litterbox, have to keep Curti happy! Laundry too, clean clothes are nice :P

For some reason, Curti was sticking his tongue out last night:
554507401_32460717283526683_4265303357621967031_n
Awwww. Some of his features are similar to Abby's! I don't know why, but he likes licking my feet..cats are weird LOL

The bookstore is really hurting without donations..customers tell me we need to get new books in, and regulars have stopped coming in as much, and the store can be dead for a couple hours before someone comes in. It's depressing! I've tried telling Lucie and/or Shelby we HAVE to start taking donations again, but they won't listen to me or Bill for some reason. I tried bringing it up again to Shelby yesterday but talking to her is like talking to a brick wall. I told her the store is going to die and she told me to stop worrying because it's not my burden to shoulder..ummm if I LOSE MY JOB because of your terrible manager skills, then YES, I am going to carry that burden and worry! Shelby didn't used to be this way, but ever since her grandma died two or three or so years ago, she has been super unhappy and grumpy and controlling. Someone from the other building came to get books and she said they're not allowed to talk to each other at all over there. No one is happy with the "management"..I'm surprised people haven't quit yet. It's incredibly frustrating and depressing. I really hope things get better, especially when we start taking donations again, and when we get a new bookstore manager (I really miss Vicki, she was amazing). This has definitely been a rough year for the Literacy Council!

It snowed this morning! Winter is coming fast D:

A book you have always avoided reading: Moby-Dick by Herman Melville (Jul 30-Aug 10). Phew, that was a long one. It was interesting, sometimes tedious..I don't regret reading it, but I was glad when I finally finished it haha

Hans the Eskimo: His Story of Arctic Adventure with Kane, Hayes, and Hall by Edwin Gile Rich (Aug 11-12). You know you're starving when you have to eat your boots D:

The Last Devil to Die by Richard Osman (Aug 13-18). Best one in the series! Emotional, but funny too. The new one (The Impossible Fortune) is coming out on the 23rd, yay!!

Blood Lure by Nevada Barr (Aug 19-25). Anna Pigeon really needs a job where she isn't getting hurt/shot at/stalked by animals, etc haha. This one took place in Glacier National Park, yay! I loved all the literary references too ("lead on, Macduff!")

The Wild Robot by Peter Brown (Aug 27-28). The movie was great, so I had to read the book too! Such a lovely story with great illustrations!

The Wild Robot Escapes by Peter Brown (Aug 28-30). Not quiiite as good as the first one, but still pretty good. I love Brightbill and Roz! <3

That was a fast summer, and stressful with work moving too. There's lots of yellow leaves on the trees now!

Earlier Curti went upstairs, set a toy down by mom's door, and waited until she came out. OMG he is too cute and sweet for words to describe <3

How purrrfect is that?? Awww. <3 You really can find almost anything on the Internet :P

Nice!! Hopefully now I won't knock my phone to the floor so much haha

My contribution to the Taylor Swift mania: on List Challenges someone made a list of their favorite Taylor Swift songs, and told us to check off our favorites from the list. I hadn't heard "Blank Space" in awhile, went to the music video to listen, and squeed when I saw this:
Screenshot 2025-08-30 at 10.36.24 PM
Four-poster bed alert!! I wasn't expecting to see one, so I was very happy haha. You can't really tell in this picture, but she's also holding a cat..nice :P

Screenshot 2025-08-30 at 10.39.23 PM
At first I thought she was cutting up the bed curtains, but then I saw it was the guy in the video's shirt. The whole mansion had great curtains! (Now the song is stuck in my head lol..but it reminds me of four-poster beds now, so I guess that's alright :P)

My back is still sore, but slowly getting better. I've never had to LITERALLY drop to the floor because the pain was so intense before!! I have another chiropractor appointment on Tuesday, so hopefully that'll help too. I'll definitely have to be careful at work for awhile!

I forgot to mention, when Jo's family first came up to say hi, Curti went right over to Jonny and intensely sniffed him haha, and he was like "yep, he smells my cat!" For some reason Curti is terrified of my neighbor Amy, but I'm glad he doesn't hide from all strangers!

Ryan made lasagna with plantains tonight, and it was actually REALLY good. He keeps making recipes from ChatGPT, so I guess we're eating AI food now LOL

1. What do you consider nature’s perfect food? Strawberries
2. What was once difficult for you but now seems like second nature? Running the register at work. I was terrified!
3. What is your favorite way to commune with nature? Go to the mountains, go in the forest and enjoy the smell of the trees, etc
4. How have you tamed nature within your living space? I don't have any nature in it lol
5. When you were you last bitten, stung, or slimed by nature? Hmmm..not sure..

Last night my back pain was so painful that I went to the hospital! They gave me a bunch of pain meds, but they didn't really do anything. This morning I saw a chiropractor, who said my muscles were SUPER tight. He had me stand in front of him and he told me I was leaning forward a little and my left palm was up a weird way. He said no one else would notice something like that, but I have noticed that in pictures of me, and mom said I walk stiffly too. He put some pain-relieving gel on my back, and some kind of electrical thing, stretched me, etc. He showed me a couple stretches to do to improve pain/my posture, and said to come back on Tuesday so he can work on me more. He said I was too young to feel so old haha! My back is still pretty painful, but hopefully it'll heal quickly. Universe, please stop hurting me, I've had enough LOL

Of all the comfy places Curti can sleep, he chooses..the floor?? He can sleep behind a chair for HOURS. Whatever makes him happy, I guess :P

Even though the bookstore has been open again since the end of May, today was the official grand opening ceremony. The Chamber of Commerce came over and staff and volunteers gathered for pictures, and Lucie and Shelby cut the ribbon with giant scissors haha (I held the tape roll and kept it taught..very important :P). The bookstore had food (cake, cookies, chips..I ate way too much sugar haha) for everyone, there was a musician, and most everything in the store was 50% off. It was busy, but not as busy as our winter sales, which was fine..we just want everyone to have fun! We made a little over $2000, nice! The sale continues tomorrow as well..it might be busier since it's a Saturday and people have work/school off. Yay, more cake and books for everyone :D

I imagine the pictures of the ribbon cutting ceremony will be online at some point, but here are some pics of me and Bill!

We are ready! (I look so short next to Bill haha)

On Wednesday me and mom and Ryan and Jo went to a Jamaican restaurant we hadn't been to before, and it was INSANELY hot, like 80 or 90 degrees in there! One of my meds makes me sensitive to heat, so while waiting for the food I started feeling very, very odd..I was thirsty, started feeling dizzy and nauseous and shaky, and eventually had to go outside..I was worried I would pass out (it felt the same way when I passed out at Chena Hot Springs from being overheated). I didn't, but still felt weird, even after drinking juice and being somewhere cooler. The food wasn't even that good, which was disappointing for everyone. None of us want to go back. Someone thought of going to Costco to get pizza and ice cream, so we did that. I was still feeling weak and weird, but thought eating something cold would help. After eating everyone was looking at a table, and I started feeling VERY unwell. I told mom to come to the bathroom with me..she said I looked very pale, and took me home after that. Yesterday morning I woke up still feeling shaky, so I took the day off work so I could rest..ugh, no fun! (And this was right after me thinking "wow, I haven't taken a day off work in a long time! Universe, PLEASE stop making me feel sick, if I have those kind of thoughts!) Thankfully this morning I felt better, though tired. I hope that doesn't happen again!!

There is a guy on Patreon/Facebook who has been making a film adaptation of The Worst Journey in the world for the past five years!! How did I miss that until now?? The pictures of the actors/sledges, etc look so authentic! I got to talking about Mark Gatiss' docudrama with him, and told him I couldn't find it anymore, so he sent me an email with the link so I could download it to my computer!! (He got the link from Sarah, who's making the graphic novel version of Worst Journey.) I really missed watching it, and now I can whenever, yay!! That made me SO happy. :D Vicki's been in California taking care of her sick mom, but she wants to watch it with me when she comes back. I can't wait, I know she'll love it! I can't wait to watch the film adaptation too, I'm so happy people still care about Cherry and the sacrifice and friendship of the expedition <3

Abby didn't really care about chasing lasers, but Curti LOVES it. He even knows the thing in my hand is what produces the red dot, and was looking at it like "why'd you turn it off??" when I stopped playing. He is such a smart kitty!

5. Name five favorite movies: LOTR: Return of the King, Cutthroat Island, Twister, 1917, Interstellar
4. Name four areas of interest you became interested in after you were done with your formal education: Glaciers, polar exploration, four-poster beds, curtains
3. Name three things you would change about this world: I'd give a message to everyone: the secret to looking young is enjoying things, no matter how little they are. Being a adult doesn't mean you just get boring and are just "meh" about things you like. People think I'm still in my 20s! Doesn't matter if I've lived in Alaska for 17 years, I'll ALWAYS get excited about seeing moose, flying over glaciers, etc. The world might be a bit more cheerful if there was more enjoyment. Second, there'd be more resources and help for mentally ill people. They don't deserve to live outside on the corner of a building! They need true help rather than just going to jail (I've seen many police bodycam videos where that has happened, so sad!). Third, get rid of Orange Guy and the awful yellow curtains haha
2. Name two of your favorite childhood toys: Barbies and a scooter
1. Name one person you could be handcuffed to for a full day: No thanks, that sounds awful D:

Yesterday at work someone came in and handed me a huge wad of cash and said "this is $2,000, to help since you lost some of your funding." I was completely shocked! I told her how grateful I was and how amazing that act was! How cool! Later Bill got a $5 donation and I was like "aw, that's not fair!" haha. Amanda also told us today she's resigning in a couple weeks. She works part-time at a radio station and they offered her a full-time position with healthcare and stuff. Aww man, she was just settling in! That is fair but I'll have to get used to a new person yet again..sigh. I hope she'll enjoy her new job though! Hopefully it won't take as long to hire someone else this time though

Curti might have some Maine Coon in him, but he is definitely a Siberian..they're active and playful, love being up high and are good at jumping, play games like fetch (I played fetch with him last night! So cool lol), they get the zoomies first thing in the morning and again at bedtime (YES haha), are very smart, etc. Other Siberians I saw pics how had the same interesting mouth shape. They actually grow slowly and reach maturity at about 5 years old, reaching 15-25 pounds! Curti's already pretty big, he might be hard to pick up if he gets to be 20 pounds! I wonder if his meow will change over time too..

WTF did I just read?!? That is..odd. O_o Thankfully it was just weird on that one page..Melville, were you ok?? It was an interesting book, but I'm glad I finally finished it lol

1. Which job on a film crew would you most like to do, and which would you be best suited for? It might be cool to be an extra, be on camera for a minute or two. Being a set decorator might be fun too..you never know what you can find at thrift stores haha
2. Which job on a hotel staff would you most like to do, and which would you be best suited for? Probably working at the front desk, checking people into their rooms. I'd also be in charge of the curtains LOL, seeing if they need to be washed and opening/closing them at appropriate times..probably not a "real" job, but I'd make it one :P
3. Which job in a hospital would you most like to do, and which would you be best suited for? Probably checking people in as well, and being a Curtain Inspector there too LOL
4. Which job on a cruise ship would you most like to do, and which would you be best suited for? Maybe working at the gift shop, or taking pictures of people/scenery
5. Which job on a fashion magazine would you most like to do, and which would you be best suited for? A copy editor, finding misspellings and stuff

At work the people I got Curti from stopped in, and they were SO happy when I showed them some pictures of him. They thought it was amusing that he has doglike qualities too lol. They were pleased he's doing well and is in a great home :D

A book that features a character with chronic pain: The Last Fire Season: A Personal and Pyronatural History by Manjula Martin (Jun 30-July 4). Ughhh this book was awful..she kept saying things like "my house, which I shouldn't even be living in because it's on stolen Indigenous land." She was a very annoying, boring writer in general. I was very close to quitting it, but I was waiting for the bus and definitely need something to read then lol

A book mentioned in another book: The Sagas of Icelanders by Jane Smiley (July 4-18). I had trouble getting through this one too (I know I'm having a hard time getting through a book when I keep falling asleep when trying to read it haha)..a very dry history of the Icelanders. A novel about them would be much better

A book with a happily single woman protagonist: Weyward by Emilia Hart (July 19-22). Someone on Goodreads said "three women in different time periods who like nature are treated horribly by men. That's it, that's the book." Ummm..what? There are those things in the book, but there was so much more to it than that! I very much enjoyed this book, especially the strength of the characters lol

A book by the oldest author in your TBR pile: Thirty Years in the Arctic Regions: The Narrative of a Polar Explorer by John Franklin (July 23-29). He might have been a great explorer, but his writing is SO boring. A difficult reading month for July lol

There's something about Curti that makes him Extra Cute haha:

He's getting very big..he "leaks" out of his cat tree haha! (Poking a stray paw hanging down amuses me lol.) His meow is still very high-pitched though, which is cute too. It's also very cute seeing what toy he left on my bed when I was sleeping hehe

26. If you could give any gift in the world, what would it be? Uhhh..it would depend on the person lol

27. What does courage mean to you? Doing something scary, being brave, etc

28. Which Olympic event would you compete in? Fencing, though I'm definitely rusty by now haha

29. Your favorite type of food: Italian, Mexican, Thai, etc

30. If you could be invisible, what would you do? Sneak onto airplanes that are going to glaciers, or places like Iceland haha

31. Your worst mistake: Being controlling with friends, for one..I'd also get super jealous when they'd hang out with someone else and not me..I must have been afraid they'd forget about me or something. I'm glad I've matured!

Aug. 1: Do you tell the truth even when it might hurt? Kind of..I try to be very polite about it though. I have been known to be brutally honest..sorry, everyone. :P Haha

1. What has you feelin’ groovy? Relaxing
2. Where do you often stop when you are homeward bound? The bus transit center..nice that it's so close!
3. When were you most recently awake far too late in the evening? Hmm..maybe in the last couple months? I have urges to pull black hairs from my body and have spent literal hours doing it..they grow in the weirdest places haha
4. Where might you go to hear the sound of silence? My apartment
5. What proves you are still crazy after all these years? Uhhh..I've gone to Anchorage just to go to the bookstore there haha (and of course I had to go to Olive Garden lol)

Today at work, as a thank you and reward for moving, we spent a few hours at Tanana Lakes. We had burgers and snacks, and there were kayaks/paddleboards/etc if we wanted to go on the water. I went out on the paddleboard, which was my first time..I like kayaks better, but it was still nice to be out relaxing on the water. It was also nice sitting around relaxing, having nothing I was supposed to do. The water was too cold to go in all the way (for me anyway..there were lots of kids swimming out there lol), so I just waded in. It was a nice afternoon and we should do it again lol. Curti thought I smelled VERY interesting when I got home :P

pokemon update )

18. What changes would you make if you were President of the United States? Mehh I don't want to do that much thinking right now LOL
