Big sale!

On Saturday, the bookstore did over $7000! We didn't break any records this time, but it's still awesome! (In the old days, $2000 was super awesome, now we do that in an hour or two haha.) We sold LOTS of books, but it always amazes me how many are left! I'm going to be busy shelving this week :P

I found another show with a main character who stutters (Arkwright), Open All Hours, a British sitcom from the 70s. Normally I hate sitcoms (especially the laugh tracks), but this one is actually clever and funny. One favorite line is when Arkwright says "How do you spell p-p-p-p-pepper? Is it six p's or seven?" and another is when he says "didn't you hear the weather fore-fore-forecast?" and his nephew says "the 'fore-fore-forecast'? That's three fours are twelve...don't you mean the weather 'twelvecast'?" Ha! Another that had me literally loling is when he said "it all started when we had B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B" and his nephew said "you know I don't understand Morse Code!" I wasn't expecting THIS line though (for context, there's a mattress in a car):

"Salesman: We're arguing about a few pounds?"
Nephew: "You can fit a four-poster in the back of that one!"
Me: "OMG NO WAY" *flails*

Now I'm imagining a four-poster in a car LOL. Awesome. :P The episodes are only like 30 minutes long, but at least there are four seasons (I'm still sad Here Come the Brides only had two seasons lol)

Dad showed me more pictures of his trip to Flower Mound, and wow, it has gotten FANCY..instead of ranches and fields, now there are giant houses and condos overlooking Grapevine Lake (I remember when there were fields! I was always sad when they slowly kept getting built on). He said except for a new playground, the neighborhood we lived in is mostly the same. The town started growing quickly in the late 90s and 2000s, and it hasn't stopped since..wow. I'd kinda like to go back, though it would be VERY weird..

I recently found a game called Hidden Paws, where you search for cats and yarn balls in an icy landscape, and it's SO relaxing! The levels get more complex the further you get in the game. I get ridiculously excited when I find a cat LOL (they meow when you get close to one). I love opening boxes and shutters on windows and just exploring. Cats and ice and even penguins, some of my favorite things! It makes me super happy <3

1. What is the brightest article of clothing in your wardrobe? A pink shirt maybe..
2. When did you last attend a live musical performance? The last concert I saw was HammerFall in 2010, but I've heard random people play live music in public since then..
3. When were you last in a bar, and what did you consume? *shrugs* I don't really go to bars..
4. When did you last bleed from a bodily injury? Recently
5. Who’s waiting far away for you to come and visit? Grandpa in Florida..I think mom and I are still going to try to visit him in May..

A couple days ago we played Cards Against Humanity with grandma, which was..VERY interesting LOL, but fun too! She was very happy when she won :P

Aunt Gina is driving up from Wichita tonight (a couple hours' drive)! Since she wasn't able to be here for grandma's birthday, we're going to order cupcakes tomorrow and eat them with grandma. Julie's house is going to be full this weekend haha

Tomorrow mom and Cindy and I are driving to Kansas to visit grandma and Aunt Julie and Joelle! The drive is 692 miles, which is almost 11 hours. D: That's like driving to Anchorage and back in one day! Cindy said it's not a very interesting drive either..probably lots and lots of fields haha. Good thing I have a book that's over 1000 pages to read :P

We played Catan twice last night and I won both times! Dean was like "I don't like this game anymore!" LOL. He's won plenty of times though :P

pokemon update )

15 – World Art Day: What is your favourite piece of art? Have you ever seen it or only admired it in pictures? Hmm..The Starry Night is cool, and of course I like medieval/Renaissance paintings with four-poster beds in them LOL. I've just admired the pictures

16 – Garden Month: Do you have a garden, or access to a community garden? Is your garden all flowers, or do you grow herbs, vegetables, berries, etc.? If you live in an apartment, do you have a balcony garden? Mom grows a garden in the summer..a mix of veggies and herbs and stuff. I do not

17 – International Bat Appreciation Day: Have you ever seen a bat in the flesh? Real bat or Batman, which is better? Yeah, it was in my house for a couple days! No idea how it got in, but mom eventually got it to go out the front door. Hmm..Batman can do cool stuff lol

18 – Pinata Day: Has whacking a paper mache model for reward featured much in your life? Not really..maybe like once or twice as a kid

A few days ago we went to Gunstock Hill Books, which we've been to a couple times before when visiting (it specializes in rare/collectable books). I told the owner mom and I were from Alaska and I like polar books, and he remembered us again! Cool haha. Otherwise, we haven't done anything super exciting, besides going to stores and playing Catan most nights (Dean LOVES it haha). Dean usually wins, but I finally did a couple nights ago! I think today we're going to go downtown and look in some shops and stuff..hopefully it won't be TOO busy :P

Monday (April 10th) was my 15 year anniversary of moving to Alaska! Wow, that went by fast. It definitely changed my life!

a few more pics )

10 – International Safety Pin Day: Invented in 1849, where would we be without them? Or do you think there is less of a place for them in modern life than there was in the past? I used them to put up the fall/Thanksgiving decorations on my bed, so they can still be useful

11 – Eight Track Tape Day: Eight Track Tape Day recognizes an era that was here and gone in a short 20 years. Are you old enough to remember eight tracks? Some technologies, like the Betamax, never caught on even though they were the superior product. Can that be said of eight tracks? No, I just remember cassette tapes

12 – World Hamster Day: Did you know there are 24 different species of hamsters? Have you ever had a hamster as a pet? I didn't and no..they're cute though

13 – Scrabble Day: When was the last time you played scrabble? Was it on a board or an online version? I think it was a few years ago at a volunteer picnic at work, it was a lawn version with huge tiles lol

14 – Look Up At The Sky Day: Go and have a look out the window at the sky and tell us what you see (if anything!) Clouds and blue sky..pretty!
glacier_kitty: (Default)
On Friday, we did go to see the ice sculptures..they're pretty cool, but standing around in the cold takes the fun out of it lol. On Saturday we went to the Museum of the North..cool as well, but that tired me out too..long covid/depression has made me lame. :P Cindy and Dean wanted to hike at Creamer's Field after that, but I went back home since I was tired. After that we had dinner and played Betrayal at House on the Hill (Jo won lol)

Yesterday we hiked up to Castner Glacier! (Along with everyone else in the Interior lol, so many people!) I can't believe I've lived here 15 years and had never been there haha (though it may not have been popular years ago, but it definitely is now). It's only a couple hours from Fairbanks! It was windy, but SUCH a gorgeous day!! Its biggest attraction is its ice cave, though part of it collapsed last summer. Good thing it's an easy hike, I'm SO out of shape lol. The ice cave was still really cool though, and went a long way under the glacier (one guy said he followed it for an hour, and found flowing water! We didn't have any flashlights though). Glacial ice is so cool to look at. There was a steep slope up the glacier me and Cindy and Dean adventured up to, which was exhausting, but satisfying. :P After hanging around the glacier awhile we drove home (Ryan had dinner waiting for us!). That was one of the funnest days I've had in a long time..I definitely needed that positivity. The total hike was 2.6 miles I think..nice! After dinner we played TWO rounds of Catan! Dean loves that game haha. It was really nice to finally go to bed :P

Today is Cindy and Dean's last day here, awww. :( We definitely had a good time though!

lots of pics! )

18 – Quilting Day: The oldest known quilting dates from 3400 BC! Has anyone ever made you a quilt or have you made your own? Have you ever bought a hand-made quilt? Mom has made me a couple quilts. Yeah, at least I think it was lol

19 – International Read To Me Day: created to boost literacy this day isn’t just for children. When was the last time you read out loud to someone? What was it you read? Did someone read aloud to you when you were a child? Some couples read to each other – if you have a significant other, is this something you do? Probably recently. Yeah, mom loved reading to Ryan and I when we were young

20 – International Day of Happiness: this was created by the United Nations to spread the idea that happitalism rather than capitalism should be spread around the world. Is happiness a choice? What makes you happy? What little thing can you do to make someone else happy? Did anything occur this month that made you particularly happy? It's complicated..with depression it's really hard. Cats, glaciers, books, etc. Compliment them, be kind, etc. Castner Glacier!
glacier_kitty: (Default)
1. Who would you like to be able to get into contact with? My half sister Jenni, Nick, etc
2. How do you make yourself go to sleep when you can’t seem to get to sleep? I take melatonin or something and lay there and eventually I'll just go to sleep
3. What language(s) do you wish you could speak? Icelandic, Latin (better), etc
4. What is it about people that confuses you the most? Why they're mean for no reason, why they can be so loud lol, etc
5. What major company do you despise the most? PETA..they kill a lot of the animals they "rescue"

Last night we stayed up super late playing Catan (I won!), and even though the aurora webcam wasn't super exciting, we decided to take a drive to see if we could see it anyway. We went to the place in Goldstream where mom and I used to live that has great views..awww, I miss it up there! It's so quiet and pretty and just..special (and a little creepy, since seeing a UFO there once LOL). There were some Northern Lights in the distance, but nothing exciting. At least it wasn't windy!

I think we're going to the Ice Park to see ice sculptures tonight..I don't usually go because I don't like standing around in the cold, but Cindy and Dean want to go lol, and I think it's supposed to be warmer tonight..we shall see :P

5. What’s a sound most people seem to hate but you like? Metal music :P

Last night was game night at the Literacy Council..it was fun haha. A few of us played Scattergories. The person who brought the game told me she said she hadn't seen someone so creative/good with words in a long time. What can I say, words are my thing :D
glacier_kitty: (Default)

Hmm..looks interesting (though maybe a ripoff of Mario Kart :P). I'll have to see what it's like when it's released for Macs..

12. What's inside your fridge?

Fruit, leftovers, drinks, ketchup, etc

Would you rather struggle through a dense crowd as a person who is only two feet tall or as a person who has an enormous bulging belly? The first one

Today's trivia: GEICO stands for Government Employees Insurance Company
glacier_kitty: (Default)
Yesterday I was playing Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader? and one of the questions I got was "rock and soil debris left behind when the glacier melts is called what?" I was like "OMG NO WAY!!!" haha. And now people on the Bzoink forums are like "OMG GLACIERS YAY I WANNA GO TO ALASKA NOW!" cause of me :D

Wowww it's already the last day of 2008..this year went fast! And think what I did..I moved all the way to Alaska haha. I hated the idea at first but now I'm like "YAY ALASKA" haha. WE HAVE GLACIERS HECK YEAH

Haha I beat a level on Jewel Quest 3 and the next one takes place in...Alaska and the Yukon Territory. Fairbanks is one of the places you can play on too :P

Nina and I are going out to lunch and a Mexican restaurant we picked out I think. I haven't had Mexican here at a restaurant (unless Taco Bell counts) so hopefully it'll be good

Today's stupidest quote: This case has had full analyzation and has been looked at a lot (President George W. Bush, about death penalty cases)

This game is addictive: http://get.games.yahoo.com/proddesc?gamekey=jewelquest3. The goal is to match the items up and turn the board gold..there's also ice to melt so you need to get the fire next to the ice

It's been raining a lot lately so the river is high..there's a dam and a flood gate so if the river gets too high then they can the divert the water to the Tanana River..though that one's flooded right now..

Mom's friend Brenda comes tonight..
