1. What drink wakes you up best in the morning? Vanilla bean frappuccinos (drinking one right now haha). Probably all the sugar that's in it lol
2. During the day, what do you drink to keep going? Water, Vitamin Water, apple juice, etc
3. Do you drink the recommended 8 glasses of water per day? Why/why not? Probably not, I don't want to go to the bathroom every five minutes LOL, but I do drink a bunch, especially if it's hot out
4. What are the ingredients of your favorite mixed drink? (Doesn't have to be alcoholic!) Vanilla beans, milk, rum, coconut juice, etc
5. Are you a coffee drinker? How do you take your coffee, if so? No

It got hot again this week, and it was super windy on Wednesday, so the forest fires exploded and got bad again. It can't be healthy breathing in all that smoke. D: Luckily by Monday it'll cool off and rain for a couple days. I always want to go watch the fire from a safe distance, but I don't think the firefighters would appreciate that lol

Mom said dad had to go to the ER again yesterday, and then ended up at the VA clinic on base, who then called his doctor (who's on the East Coast right now), who finally prescribed him some Clonazepam (sitting in a chair and staring for hours is no way to live!). They want to do more tests I think, so hopefully the Clonazepam will help him until then. He seems SO much better today, which is nice..I hated seeing him so miserable :(

some pics of curti! )

2. Your favorite season: Summer, before it gets too hot. Fall is nice when all the leaves change color too

3. When was the last time you cried? *shrugs*

4. What is the best birthday present you ever received? A trip to London, the "junk journal" mom made me, cake haha, etc
glacier_kitty: (books cats)
A dystopian book with a happy ending: The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton (May 31-Jun 3). This was kind of a post-apocalyptic Where the Crawdads Sing haha. Good Morning, Midnight was better, but still an interesting read

A book that an AI chatbot recommends based on your favorite book: The Coldest March: Scott's Fatal Antarctic Expedition by Susan Solomon (Jun 4-9). I hadn't read a book about Scott's expedition in awhile haha. They just had terrible, super cold weather that year! (Amundsen's men got frostbite too, because they left too early.) I've now outlived Birdie Bowers (he was only 28!!), Edgar Evans (35) and Lawrence Oates (32)..wow. Such a tragic ending, even more so because Cherry was blamed for their deaths, which haunted him the rest of his life. So sad :(

A book about a run club: The End of the World Running Club by Adrian J. Walker (Jun 9-15). Running hundreds of miles across a meteorite-destroyed wasteland?? Crazy! This book freaked me out though, because a meteor strike like that could happen D:

A book that includes a nonverbal character: The Weight of Silence by Heather Gudenkauf (Jun 15-19). The fourth book I've read by this author (I loved The Overnight Guest). I wasn't a fan of the main character's dad's abuse, which caused her silence. He said if she talked, her mom's baby would die..WTF?? People can be so awful :/

A book that features a married couple who don't live together: We Solve Murders by Richard Osman (Jun 20-24). His books are so funny and entertaining! The new Thursday Murder Club novel comes out in September, yay!

A book about a POC experiencing joy and not trauma: What You Are Looking For Is in the Library by Michiko Aoyama (Jun 25-26). I love how so many Asian novels have cats in them lol. I put it on the shelf at work after I finished reading it and within an hour someone bought it haha

A book where music plays an integral part of the storyline: Lucky Stars by Lucy Frank (Jun 27-29). Yay, another book with a character that stutters! He could sing really well too!

Poor dad is going through a really bad anxiety/depression spell..a few weeks ago he drove me to/from work until I learned the bus schedule, then went out of state to Arizona and California, and hasn't been the same since he got back. He woke mom up at 6 something on Wednesday and asked her to take him to the ER..his chest was heavy, it was hard to breathe, he was in pain, etc. They did lots of tests, and after five hours, they said he had a bladder infection. He felt a little better after they gave him fluids and meds, but they next day he felt bad again and went back to the ER, and still only said he had a bladder infection. On Friday night when I was there, he felt absolutely AWFUL..neck pain, not able to concentrate, tense, nauseous, etc. His symptoms were pretty much everything I had when I was anxious/depressed. He said he was at his wit's end and couldn't live like that. I know I'm not supposed to, but I gave him a Clonazepam..I just can't watch people suffer! When I walked into the room, his face looked terrified, stressed, scared..I hope I never see that expression again! I told him I had symptoms he has when I was depressed and told him to take the pill, and he'd feel much better. He gave me a big hug. I went to bed and the next morning asked how the night went, and he hugged me and told me I had saved his life! He felt calm and was able to sleep, but he felt the symptoms creeping back the next day. His doctor won't give him anti-anxiety meds until his infection clears up, so he can't really do anything because of his brain fog and other symptoms. It's awful leaving someone to suffer like that! I somehow made it through a year of feeling that way, I wouldn't wish that on most people (unless they abuse animals or other horrendous things). I really hope he gets relief soon, it's so hard watching someone else go through it :(

It's weird..at the bookstore's new location, we get a LOT more tourists and first-time visitors than at the other building. I'm not sure why, it isn't in a "touristy" or exciting part of town, but it is cool! I love learning where people are from lol

Curti is so cute..when I come home, he'll stretch is front paws on my legs, asking me to pick him up, and purrs when I do. Awww, he misses me and is happy I'm home. <3 His super fluffy tail is so cool hehe

28. Your favorite board game: Betrayal at House on the Hill, Pictionary, Trivial Pursuit (though everyone I know hates trivia games, so I never get to play it :()

29. What memories do you associate with summer? Traveling and seeing glaciers, swimming, eating strawberry milkshakes outside, the Midnight Sun Festival, etc

30. When do you feel lonely? When I'm at a gathering and no one is talking to me, when I've spent too much time alone in my apartment, etc

July 1: What one thing would you change from your past? I wish I had been a better friend in the past, but if it hadn't happened I wouldn't have learned from it..still makes me feel guilty though :(
glacier_kitty: (Default)
1. How is professional you different from home you? I'm more "casual," and might ask a question that I wouldn't be able to ask if I'm trying to stay professional (it can be hard though!)
2. How is grown-up you different from teen you? I'm far more mature and relaxed..I would get super upset if someone didn't respond to a message right away, which sounds so ridiculous now..people get busy haha. I also ignored people's reactions..like I would keep talking or whatever even if they looked uncomfortable. I'm sure part of that was being autistic, but I still feel bad thinking of it. I've learned a lot over the years :P
3. How is online you different from IRL you? Hmmm..not sure. I try to be real either way!
4. How is morning you different from evening you? I feel groggy and sleepy in the morning..it can definitely take me awhile to wake up fully (going to work helps me wake up faster too, I'm distracted haha). Sometimes I'll fall asleep trying to read before work. I really like the evening because there's dinner, dessert, relaxation, cat games to play haha, etc. I'm definitely not a morning person :P
5. How is drinking you different from sober you? I'm able to do Les Mis karaoke LOL, and I might slur my words/stutter more than usual, which really amuses mom for some reason. :P I laugh a lot too! Alcohol can allow me to be outgoing, which is cool, even if I'm exhausted the day after :P

At work this week a customer asked if she could bring in her emotional support cat..umm YES haha! Her cat was on a leash and meowed at everything lol. She let me pick her up and hold her for a few minutes..cats are definitely good for emotional support! It seems like people are now taking their cats places instead of dogs, which is super cool! Bring your cats everywhere, please, it makes me happy LOL

Lucie finally hired a new Bookstore Manager yesterday, yay! Her name's Amanda (I've had at least three friends named Amanda, so that's easy to remember lol) and has lots of experience with overseeing volunteers and is pretty much everything Lucie was looking for in a manager. She starts work in mid-July. I hope I like her!

There are so many wildfires in Alaska right now..Fairbanks is basically surrounded by them. Yesterday it rained ash! It seemed somewhat smoky this morning, but not too bad. More smoke came through when I was at work..Bill and I were taking pics of the sun haha. After work mom and I went to the Midnight Sun Festival..omg so many people!! Mom and I like to go earlier, but I couldn't this time since I had to work. A couple people there had their CATS with them!! I always see dogs, but cats is a first for me haha. I melted and had to pet them hehe..I was really surprised by how calm they were! More people bring your cats to the festival, please :P (there was also a dog wearing sunglasses, and another wearing a hat..awesome haha). I got my favorite festival foods (a Navajo taco, lemonade, Dippin' Dots) and stopped by that coin store with cool polar books..I try to limit myself to once a year since I always spend too much money in there haha. We didn't stay for a long time since we were hot and sweaty and tired of being crowded..as we left, we saw this crazy huge smoke plume to the south..we figured that fire near the Parks Highway (Bear Creek Fire) had gotten way worse. I checked online, and someone had posted pictures of the fire next to the road, and they said the fire jumped the road after they passed it. Yikes!! It definitely looked apocalyptic. O_o That part of the highway is closed now. A lot of people are having to evacuate. Scary! It'll be so awesome when that cold front comes through on Monday..it'll be in the 70s and rainy for a few days, nice! I prefer cuddling under a blanket to being too hot lol. Hopefully no one will lose their house/pets, etc!

a few pics )

21. Foods you hate: Peanut butter, olives, mushrooms, pickles, ham, asparagus, etc
glacier_kitty: (Default)
1. What item would you be embarrassed for people to know you own? I have some pretty hideous underwear hidden in a drawer LOL, it definitely wasn't pretty like I thought it was going to be :P
2. What is something you splurged on just for you? The first edition (2 vols.) of The Worst Journey in the World
3. What is something that you own with no real world value that is priceless to you? My bus ticket to Wheathampstead, one of the best days of my life
4. Do you collect anything? Sure, postcards of four-poster beds, books, shirts from places I travel to, etc
5. What item belonging to a friend/family member do you covet? I really like the curtains in mom's room, even though I like my own curtains haha..one time I wrapped up in them and watched the Northern Lights from her deck haha!

Yesterday I was reading in bed and heard something fall onto a decorative plate I had in the living room..I jumped up and walked over, hoping it wasn't broken, and saw this:
509259032_31012263668372059_2779881043847443385_n
I about melted from his cuteness and told him to stay so I could get a picture haha (Abby would get up on top of the cabinets too before she got old lol). I told mom he was surveying his kingdom :P (thankfully the plate was fine too)

Our sign at work is finally up!!
503824371_1275288864602832_1088661600030527436_n
Yay!! Yesterday the store made over a thousand dollars, so people have definitely noticed! I was worried by the days that were like $200 something, but people just had to find us first. Busy days make me really happy, I love selling books!

Mom and I saw How to Train Your Dragon this week, and Hiccup's connection with animals made me SO happy. <3 I loved the scene where Hiccup and Astrid were riding Toothless and the Northern Lights were out! Such a great live-action remake, I can't wait for the sequel!

Ughhh it's been so hot this week..my coworker said her arms were sticking to her desk! In the afternoon storm clouds build up over the hills to the north of town (air mass thunderstorms, not associated with a cold front and they dissipate quickly from lack of energy. I love mom's weather knowledge!), and yesterday they looked CRAZY and intense! A volunteer at work lives out that way and she said her plants got pummeled by hail. Of course the lightning caused a bunch of forest fires (I could smell the smoke last night), and people are being told to be ready to evacuate at a moment's notice..yikes. When mom was driving me to her house earlier I saw a smoke plume from one of the fires (Vicki's firefighter boyfriend is Sam is off work because he had surgery, but I'm sure he's following everything closely too). Thankfully on Monday some storm clouds associated with a cold front will come through, and on Tuesday it's supposed to be 69 degrees!! That'll feel amazing haha, it's gross sweating so much while trying to work :P

Last year, I discovered a flightseeing company out of Delta Junction (about 1/2-2 hours south of Fairbanks) that did flights around the Alaska Range, including Black Rapids Glacier..I'd been wanting to fly over that glacier for years, and I said that on my birthday this year that's one thing I would do. My birthday week was cloudy, so I made a reservation for today, because the heat wave brought clearer weather. Unfortunately, the wind chose today to bring over smoke from fires burning in Canada..that's not nice!! Haha. Me and mom and her friend Sarah (they sew/craft a lot together) drove down anyway and met the pilot at the "airport" (literally a path of gravel through a field haha). He said the smoke might get better in the mountains, so we hopped on and took off. This was Sarah's first time in a small plane! The pilot was glad I had a specific location in mind, apparently other people are like "just take us anywhere" haha. It look a little time getting to the mountains (the smoke was somewhat better there), but once we did..wooow. There is SO much beauty and awesomeness you can't see from the road!! I loved how smooth the snow/ice looked on the mountains, like ice cream! It was VERY hard trying to take pictures though, so bright! Mom actually got a better view of Black Rapids from her side, but she thought she left her phone in the car, so she couldn't take any pictures! Ouch! (She saw it was in her purse when we landed!) That was kind of disappointing, but I still enjoyed the view of the tributary glaciers (I think the pilot said they're just considered the Black Rapids complex or something like that), the pretty meltponds, moraines, etc. We also saw the beginning of the Susitna Glacier. I wished we could have spent more time there, but that would have been insanely expensive, and those little planes only hold not a huge amount of fuel (it's never long enough for me when I'm around glaciers haha). When we were flying back, the pilot pointed to where he worked at his "real" job, and said he was on his lunch break..well that's pretty much the best lunch break ever haha. Unfortunately, not all of my pictures came out (especially with the wing strut thing in the way), but I still got some cool ones

After that we had buffalo burgers at a restaurant that I think is only open in the summer, went to a fabric store, and went to this grocery store that sells food from different countries, like Russia (their donuts looked good, but I was way too full from lunch to eat one lol). We have our road trip "musts": glaciers, food, fabric..works for me!! Haha. The smoke was a little better on the drive back, yay! Sarah thanked us for inviting her and said she had a good time..fun was had by all :D

pics from the flight!! )

1. Have you ever been to summer camp? Yeah, when I was a kid
2. Have you ever made a s'more? Yeah, I prefer to stick the marshmallow in the fire and watch it burn though LOL
3. Have you ever slept under the stars (no tent/tarp)? No
4. Have you ever had a member of the opposite sex sleep over at your house? Yeah, when I was a kid, though I had to sleep in a different room than them though (I understand why now, but not back then, which annoyed me
5. What type of bed do you have (queen, twin, bunk, etc.)? A full (I think) four-poster bed!

Ughhh it's supposed to be in the 80s for the foreseeable future..the weather service put out a heat advisory because it could get up to 89 and people/animals here aren't used to that. Trying to sleep when it's that hot is awful. Work's new building gets hot, but we put lots of fans out, which helps some. Customers are getting annoyed we're not accepting donations yet (me and Bill are still trying to unpack everything!), but they like the new building too! I saw on Facebook that a new bookstore opened downtown on Friday! I'll have to check it out someday (shh, don't tell my bosses LOL)

I had my regular doctor's appointment this week and she said my blood pressure was high..considering the craziness of the last new months, I'd be surprised if it WASN'T high haha. Hopefully it'll settle down soon. My cholesterol was also high, so she told me to exercise 20 minutes a day..mom said she'll give me her bike. I'd be more likely to do that than take a walk lol. Hopefully that'll help some

Today I turned 36, woohoo! I know I'm getting old because sometimes I forget what I'm talking about in the middle of a conversation LOL. Both Ryan/Jo and dad got me the same cat card from Barnes and Noble haha! I got two gift cards too, so I'll have fun buying lots of books there. :P Vicki and her boyfriend Sam came over in the afternoon, their first time going to my parents' house and meeting Ryan and Jo! Curti was a little overwhelmed by her loud voice, but still walked over to her. I'm glad he doesn't hide when he sees strangers. We went to Chena's Alaskan Grill for dinner, my traditional birthday restaurant spot, which was super fun! Vicki is so much fun to hang out with! After good food and conversation we went back to my parents' house and had cupcakes and ice cream, yum! Vicki got me a game called Exploding Cats, which I'd seen before but never played..we'll have to play it together sometime! I'll miss working with her, but I'm glad to be great friends with her too!

some pics from the night! )

Mom's birthday is next week, so it'll be my turn taking her to dinner, yay! I can't believe she'll be 70 O_o

7. What adventure do you want to go on? I want to brave the Drake Passage and sail to Antarctica and see the sights!

8. If you owned a store, what would you sell? Books, obviously :P

Friday five

Jun. 6th, 2025 04:23 pm
glacier_kitty: (curtains)
1. What’s going to be special about this weekend? My birthday's on Sunday! Vicki and her boyfriend Sam are coming over to my parents' house and going to dinner with us! Both of us are very excited lol
2. When did you last order the special when dining out? Hmmm..not sure, it's been awhile..
3. What’s especially memorable about this past week? Mom came home from Florida, yay! (Funny how this Friday five is asking things I already wanted to talk about haha.) She said grandpa gets tired easy, like he can only mow part of his lawn at a time, but considering he's 91 it's impressive he can do it at all lol
4. When did you last consult with a specialist of some kind? Maybe a couple months ago? Time goes by so fast it can all blur together lol
5. What have you done recently to make someone else feel special? I told Vicki the last two years with her as manager has been some of the best times I've ever had working at the bookstore. Tomorrow's her last day (*sniff*), but she'll stop in to buy books and we definitely want to stay close friends!

Since Sunday's my birthday, we had milkshakes at our staff meeting at work to celebrate! I love that they do things like that for people's birthdays. One of the other bookstore staff members resigned this week (the job was too physical for her), so it'll just be me and Bill next week until they hire new people (Lucie or Shelby will probably come to check on us too). We will be strong and keep things running!

This weekend, an "anomalously cold airmass" is supposed to come and it could get in the 30s!! Ummm..Alaska, it's June?? Luckily by next week it'll be in the 60s and 70s again (I love that the word they used to describe the cold front is "anomalously"..hard to say, but still cool haha)

Sleepy Curti is so cute!!
502943497_30771133429151752_5702219655907798202_n
One of the most spoiled kitties in America. :P His tail has gotten super fluffy!

A book about a road trip: Five Survive by Holly Jackson (Apr 30-May 5). A roadtrip gone very wrong. The narrator kept wondering what design the curtain in the RV reminded her of (which drove people on Goodreads crazy, but I was like "yay, curtains!" haha), but it was never revealed what it reminded her of! That's not nice, I wanted to know!! Haha

A book where the main character is a politician: Dune Messiah by Frank Herbert (May 5-9). OMG the second Dune book was SO boring. The movie better be more exciting, though it would be hard to top the awesomeness of Dune Part 2

A book about space tourism: Floating Hotel by Grace Curtis (May 9-13). Yay, another book with a character who stutters! I liked the different perspectives from the main characters..like one person was eating and the character who stuttered was his waitress, and the same scene was shown from her perspective too..cool!

A book centering LGBTQ+ characters that isn't about coming out: Ink Blood Sister Scribe by Emma Törzs (May 14-19). I really enjoyed this one! Magic, books, a surprising reveal, and some of it took place in Antarctica..nice!

A book featuring an activity on your bucket list: Iceland Summer: Travels along the Ring Road (May 19-21). Iceland seems like such a cool place, I definitely need to go there someday!

A book about a nontraditional education: Murder Your Employer by Rupert Holmes (May 22-27). A school where you learn how to murder people?? Unique and intriguing, though a bit too complicated. The "thesis" was successfully killing someone..crazy haha

A book that features a character going through menopause: Sandwich by Catherine Newman (May 28-29). Ugh, this book was annoying..the narrator did and said the weirdest things ("If menopause were an actual substance, it would be spraying from my eyeballs." What?? O_o And period talk ) I really liked this quote though: "Our food is arriving now because we are the kind of people who like to eat one meal while planning at least two other meals that are occurring in the future." YES haha, it's a huge thing I look forward to throughout the day :P

A book you want to read based on the last sentence: The Story of a Seagull and the Cat Who Taught Her to Fly by Luis Sepúlveda (May 30-31). It was something about a noble cat..but the cat was more of a bully than noble. And the "humans destroying everything" theme got really annoying. Not the best book for kids :/

the topics )

Yay, my birthday's in a week!

June 1: What are your thoughts on cooking? I love when people cook yummy things for me, but I'm terrible at it and don't really have the energy for it. Somehow it just tastes not the same if I cook something :P
glacier_kitty: (Default)
Yay, I love when my friends post surveys! They definitely aren't as popular as they used to be :(

What bands have you seen live? Trans-Siberian Orchestra (4 times), Kamelot, Nightwish, HammerFall (and whatever bands opened for them too)
What is the biggest age difference between you and someone you've dated? I've never really dated anyone
Have you ever had a crush on someone "too young" for you? I don't think so? Since being in my 30s people who are in their teens look about 10 years old LOL, which doesn't attract me at all :P
Are you older or younger than your best friend? Younger
What model of cell phone do you have, if any? A Samsung Galaxy S20
Has a pet ever stolen food from you as you were eating it? Snowy tried biting the crust of my pizza when I wasn't lookinhg haha, and Curti tries to when I eat dinner, so I keep having to shift myself away from him haha
Has anybody ever told you that you could be a model? I don't think so?
What made you laugh today? Me and Vicki and her firefighter boyfriend were talking about fires, and I said that black spruce smell bad when they burn, and he said "it smells like money!," which made both me and Vicki laugh lol
Have you ever kissed a girl, and did you like it? I haven't
Your choice of transportation: camel, jet pack or carriage? Jet pack, and hopefully I wouldn't crash into things LOL (I'm so clumsy :P)
Something that made you smile today? Today at work a customer brought her cat in in a stroller! It was a big kitty (part Maine Coon, maybe?), and so calm with everything! He let me pet him, and he purred and rolled over when his owner pet him, awww. <3 I told her "come back anytime, even when we're not open!" haha. She said she was hoping her cat could become a therapy pet, so cool!
Have you ever made a sock puppet? I don't think so?
Do you ever just stare at the Moon? Not usually for a long time, I'll look for a few seconds and then look away
If you could go on a date with any celebrity, who would it be? Maybe Timothée Chalamet or Harry Styles? I love their hair LOL
What's your favourite panel show? I watched some of Would I Lie To You? a couple months ago, after I read a couple of Richard Osman's books and heard he did a lot of TV shows too. It was actually pretty funny!

survey two! )

31. What's the view from your bedroom window? Huh, that's funny, I answered that in the second survey (buildings and the street). What are the chances of that?
glacier_kitty: (Default)
1. When did you most recently (or most memorably) repair (or temporarily fix) an article of clothing? I let mom do that lol
2. When were you most recently somewhat annoyed by your own forgetfulness? Most days, I feel like haha..too many things stored in my brain :P
3. What are some of your favorite words to use in place of curse words? Heck, jeez, etc
4. How was your week? The beginning was stressful, but it got somewhat better at the end
5. Among items on your to-do list, which could you take care of right now, with minimal effort? I could do laundry, but I really don't want to get up right now LOL

Today at the bookstore started slow, then got really busy in the afternoon (it's Free Book Friday for kids, for one). The customers keep saying how great it looks and thank us for our hard work, so nice! Some people from the other programs came to help shelve books, so I sorted them and they shelved them..we should have done that from the beginning, way more effective! We hired someone new called Morgan (one of my favorite names!), and when I gave her a stack I told her what genre it was and she would say "you got it, boss!" haha. She's as cool as her name. :D I love how much the Fairbanks community supports us!

Yay, Drew Lynch finally posted a video from his Santa Fe show!

His interactions with the interpreters was one of the best parts of the show, especially when she signed his stutter! It added a unique element to the show, and I imagine Brad was having a great time too lol. It's ok, Drew, I'm short too! :P (I LOVE the blue lights on the curtains, it reminds me of the Northern Lights!

30. What concert do you really want to go to? )
glacier_kitty: (Default)
This past two weeks of moving/shelving/arranging shelves at the bookstore has not been easy on anyone. We only had TWO days to get as many books as possible on the shelves..many of the boxes are a mix of genres, which slows us down some. When volunteers would come in Vicki would say "welcome to hell!" I asked Bill if he was dying inside when he sighed and he said "I'm already dead" lol. So many things could have gone better, but now it's just best to move forward. There's still a LOT of work to do, but we still opened today. I was greeted by the smell of whatever Lucie used to clean the floor with, which smelled fresh and nice, perfect for a new start! Lucie insisted on being the first customer LOL
501199502_1258879679577084_5294199138156952879_n
Yeah, it is definitely weird checking customers out in the kitchen haha! (The building was some food bank program.) Shelby must have taken time off, because she looked refreshed and cheerful. Many regular customers came in today and said the new place looked great (even with semi-empty shelves, which they undertstood), yay! It was nice doing my "regular" job again haha

Here's a pic of part of the store:
501328065_1258798572918528_6211544966138464081_n
Dad's been driving me, but we took the bus one day together and it gets to the bookstore very quickly! I'll have a longer ride going back home, but that's what books are for. :P We'll do an "official" grand opening in June, I think. Hopefully things will run smoother now lol

Curti is definitely part dog..dad said he went down to the lake, got a stick, and brought it in the house haha! Yesterday he got one of his toys and jumped up on my lap with it. I just find that SO cute, awww <3

may 24-29 )
glacier_kitty: (Default)
1. What could use a good shining? My bathroom sink, probably..it gets dirty so fast!
2. When have you recently had to stand in a slow-moving line? Hmm..I've stood in lines recently while traveling and stuff, but they weren't super slow, so I'm not sure lol
3. What was your favorite childhood counting-out game to determine who was it? Probably something like Eeeny Meeny Mini Moe or Rock Paper Scissors
4. Is anything feeling thinner these days? The air in Santa Fe did haha
5. What do you know about Maine? The capital is Augusta, the fall colors are really pretty, lobster is popular there, etc

The aftermath of the move this week has been..hard. It felt like no one wanted to help us (we were told to build a shelf, which none of the three of us knew how to do), we couldn't shelve until today because the shelves had to be bolted down (I miss shelving books!), and Vicki announced she's stepping down as Bookstore Manager, for lots of reasons (she wants to not be so tired and sick so often, she wants a family, she feels depressed when she goes home, she's in too many meetings and managing too many people..she misses the books, etc). A job opened up at her church that she feels like she'd be better suited for. I have been..very sad since she said that. We get along SO well together and she's so caring, funny, and good with people. Of course I supported her decision, but it still made me cry. She said she still wants to volunteer or even have a small paying position, if Lucie thinks that's alright. We will always be great friends though..she said I mean the world to her, and I feel the same about her..it's hard to find a true friendship like that! I'm always nervous about working with a new person, but LCA somehow just finds the right people. Now Vicki will have time to come over to me or my parents' house, and vice versa..I still haven't met her cat, but I hope to soon. Thankfully we had more help in the bookstore today, so next week will probably be better..it definitely won't all get done when we open next Thursday, but with time it'll look great! A bunch of customers have driven up, only to see we're not open yet, which is a good sign people still want to shop there. Hopefully they'll like the new place!

Today was work's first staff meeting in the other programs' new building, which I hadn't been in yet..Vicki showed me around, and on seeing Lucie's office, exclaimed, "you have curtains!!!" Of course I got a picture with them!

Lucie was like "I should have told you!," but I didn't mind being surprised haha. Hopefully there will be a good spot somewhere in the bookstore for my cat curtain :P

Here is the picture we took to commemorate our old building:

Yay! Now it's weird driving by the building, knowing it belongs to someone else lol

I got home very early this morning and now I can do a recap since I'm not socializing/exhausted haha. I wasn't sure how much time mom and I would spend with Aunt Cindy and Uncle Dean since their friends (Pam and Ken) were visiting too, but we actually spent a lot of our time with them! They were super nice and didn't at all object to having to share Cindy and Dean with us haha. One of the days Pam and I added each other on Facebook and she fistbumped me and said "we're friends now!" Heck yes! Haha. We spent a lot of time shopping downtown (with me admiring all the shops' curtains LOL). There were LOTS of tourists around..for some reason most of the time it was super windy, but otherwise it was sunny and nice. Downtown is dangerous because there are too many things to buy haha. I kept wondering why I was so out of breath doing simple things, until someone said something about the altitude (7,199 feet)..ah yes, that explained it haha. It's also SUPER dry, even drier than Fairbanks! Drinking water didn't help much, but lip balm did, thankfully. We also went to a couple bookstores (one with thousands of books in Spanish..the most in the country, according to the owner), but unfortunately, the one I usually went to was not in business anymore..the last time I was there the owner talked about how much he wanted to retire, so he did (another bookstore owner said he moved to California). It was a cool bookstore though..I wonder what he did with all his books? The library had a little store, with amazingly had a copy of The Worst Journey in the World, which I made Cindy buy LOL..she was like "every time you visit, I end up with a stack of books!" haha. I hope she likes it!

On Thursday I was excited but nervous to see Drew Lynch! Another comedian opened for him, and she owned horses, and said her pronouns were neigh/nem, with I thought was HILARIOUS lol. Eventually it was Drew's turn! He always opens his shows by making fun of or making observations about where he's performing. He mentioned being blown away but the crazy wind, blaming the altitude for stuttering, making fun of the town Truth or Consequences, and also having to use lip balm. There was also someone who was deaf in the audience, so there were a couple ASL interpreters to help him. When Drew came onstage and saw her he was like "oh no, I have to try not to stutter, would that look like a seizure in ASL??" That added part made the show even funnier..I can't remember the deaf person's name, so I'll go with Gary..he and the interpreters had a lot of attention from Drew (both of the interpreters were having fun lol). My favorite part of the show was when Drew stuttered, looked at the interpreter, and said "did you just sign my stutter?!" That's a huge reason I like him so much, he uses humor for his situation (like I do with autism). He's not just another guy trying to be funny..I feel like he would feel vulnerable, but he doesn't seem fazed. I also like how good he is at ad-libbing, like when he saw the interpreters. He has a fun laugh, though the volume was too loud. Mom said she had trouble following him sometimes, because he would start to say something and stop and change what he was going to say, but I'm sure that's because his stutter wouldn't let him say it..that would be frustrating, but he says something like "oh you know!," and continues on. I didn't understand or like ALL of his jokes, but it was still really fun! (I was super exhausted after it was over, too much stimulation!) He likes to post funny parts of his shows on YouTube, and I can't wait to see what he posts from this show! (Hopefully his interactions with the interpreters!) I'll have to share it if he does post it. At the end of the show, he said "you guys were f-ing awesome!" Why thank you. :P Haha. I'm glad he had fun too!

I flew home yesterday, but mom went on to Florida to visit grandpa (he's having cancer treatments and sometimes doesn't feel well). I HAVE to go back to work tomorrow, so I told mom to tell him I said "hi." It was nice to get away for a few days after working so hard during the move! I'm sure there's lots to do still though. :P I'm pretty sure Curti grew while I was gone, he's getting so big!!

pics from the trip! )

17. What makes you angry? Animal abuse, slow internet, being mean for no reason, etc

18. What five things do you want to do on your next birthday? I'd love to take a plane ride to Black Rapids Glacier (there is a company that does that now!), eat cake, open presents, shop at Barnes and Noble haha, relax online

19. Your most recent dream: I can't really remember..
glacier_kitty: (Default)
1. What was the nature of your most recent change in diet or eating habits? Hmm..being sick a couple months ago?
2. What do you consider (in order of importance) when finding a new hairstylist or barber? I usually just try to find somewhere, and if I like it go back to them
3. Which of your childhood friends would you like most to hear from this weekend? *shrugs* Amanda? I'm surprised she even accepted my friend request haha, we kinda parted ways in a weird way years ago lol
4. When have you most recently been asked to drive someone somewhere, and when have you most recently needed someone else to drive you somewhere? Never, because I don't drive and today, since mom and I don't have a car here
5. How’ve you been sleeping lately? Pretty well until it gets light again, then it's harder. I like that there's an AC in my room in the AirBnB we're staying in, since I sleep better when it's cooler

I've been far too exhausted to write a proper update, but I've been having fun! It was cool seeing Drew Lynch in person! More on that later, but here's a picture of the stage!

I love the blue lights on the curtains. *swoons* Hopefully I'll be less exhausted soon when I'm not walking around and socializing all day lol

After a lot of hard work, we are finally done moving everything to the bookstore's new building. It was very disorienting and dizzying walking in yesterday and seeing this:
497495204_1243517491113303_7747286534861595656_n
So empty!! Workers had to use some kind of tool to cut into the shelves, and the smell of the burning wood smelled SO good haha. We're so grateful we've had so many people help us move, it would have been super hard without them! Today we went to the landfill to get rid of stuff, and Vicki was SO happy haha, she took lots of pictures of trash, fridges, etc. It was fun throwing the stuff into the piles and breaking stuff haha

This is what it looked like after moving mostly everything:
496346101_30500821872849577_2050786189193609539_n
Wowww. There's a lot of history and memories in that building..floods, big sales, Christmas parties, etc. Goodbye, faithful building! There is SO much stuff in the new building though, yikes! We had to push the opening day later because there's just too much to do. We started organizing today, which is one of Vicki's strong points..she can look at something and barely hesitate and have a plan ready. I'd just stare at the boxes or whatever for like 20 minutes haha. Everyone's glad we have everything moved over now, phew! I'll miss being able to walk to work, but there's a bus stop very close to the new building, which is nice lol. I was thinking about getting a bike too..guess I'll figure it out when I get back from Santa Fe!

Tomorrow mom and I are going to Santa Fe, yay! After that big move, I'm glad I have a few days to relax before working more at the new building (Vicki said I definitely earned this vacation haha). The birch pollen started a couple days ago (my nose has NOT been happy), so I'm even more glad to go somewhere else lol. Hopefully Drew Lynch will put on a good show! I checked the weather, and it's supposed to be sunny and in the 60s while there..nice!!

I wouldn't have gotten this far in life without her support, understanding, love, etc. <3 We went to Green's, a fancy restaurant (we went there last year too), and got a table next to the curtains! (That's why our faces are that far apart, to get the curtains in the pic haha!)

Don't look at the menu yet, we have to take a pic with the curtains first!!! Haha

Ryan, Jo, me, mom and dad, yay! After dinner we got ice cream. A very fun day! (Curti brought up his mouse on my bed and played with it, so that was his present haha. It's SO cute when he walks around with a toy in his mouth hehe)

Friday five

1. Have you ever gone skinny-dipping? In the pool I had in Texas, when I was a kid. Dad even took a video LOL
2. When you're home alone, do you strip down to get comfortable? Do you ever go out without underwear (bra and/or panties) because it's more comfortable? I get into my PJs in the evening when I'm at home alone, but I definitely don't go without the other two in public, my boobs are way too big for that haha!
3. Have you ever/Do you use the bathroom with the door open? Are you comfortable using public facilities? Ooof, this Friday five is making me super uncomfortable LOL (I'm a little famous at work for not liking bathroom talk LOL). Only when I'm home in my apartment. I really don't like public bathrooms, but sometimes there just isn't another choice, so I cringe and get done as soon as possible haha
4. When getting intimate with your significant other, lights on or off? I'm single
5. How comfortable are you with body exposure/nudity of others? Group shower rooms?, topless/nude beaches?, breastfeeding in public? Being asexual, I'd rather not see excessive nudity..I feel like it should be private, shared with a significant other (Vicki is not asexual, but she told me she feels the same way). I don't know how actors/actresses can film nude scenes in movies, I'd be horrified! I don't mind breastfeeding though, of course your baby has to eat!

This week at the bookstore everyone's been busy, selling books (everything was 50% off this week), packing up books, etc. We've been open til 8, and all of us have said that during our turn working late that it was pretty much dead after 5:30, our normal closing time..seemed kinda pointless to be open that late then! We definitely sold a lot, but there are still SO many books left! Today was supposed to be the store's last sale day in its current spot, but Shelby texted everyone this morning, saying not to come in because something came up. I was imagining awful things, like a break in or murder! Later Lucie texted me and my other coworker (Bill), saying she wanted us to go to the new building and sort books. Mom was in town, so I was able to get a ride from her. When both of us arrived, Lucie said someone moved a shelf and found a silverfish infestation, so she had to call an exterminator before the movers would move anything. Phew, I'm glad it wasn't anything worse! Bill and I set up tables and sorted books (fiction, nonfiction, kids) for about 3-4 hours (those books had been in our storage unit for years because we didn't have enough space at the store). There were some cool books I'd never seen before! After 3 1/2 hours the tables were getting super overloaded and I was getting tired, and luckily Lucie stopped by again to check on us, who said we could go home and she'd still pay us for another hour..cool! I'm definitely tired of this move and being exhausted when I go home, I'm so glad I'm going to Santa Fe next week! Just two more workdays left lol (Lucie said a lot of customers kept showing up, wanting to get last-minute deals, and were sad to be turned away..awww :(). Lucie took this picture of me and Bill:
496070728_30440666988865066_5730998558978943752_n
Lots of books!! We need more tables until the shelves are set up lol

Curti can now jump up on the counter..I'd rather not have paws up there that have been in the litterbox lol, but he doesn't want to take "no" for an answer. :P Dad had been out of town since I got Curti until last weekend, and of course dad loves him and likes to take him outside with him. He's a spoiled kitty hehe

1. When did you last send someone a heart emoji in a message, and what color was it? The earliest I can find is March 5 (when I got tattoos of Abby's pawprints). It was red
2. When were you most recently over the moon? Today, which I'll explain later!
3. When you draw a five-pointed star, which of the star's points do you begin and end with? I don't think I've drawn a star in years lol..I feel like I started on the left maybe..
4. When did you last walk barefoot in clover (or some other grass-like groundcover)? Not sure..
5. Do you have any lucky charms? The number 16 lol

I was right when I said the bookstore had been slow because people were waiting for the 40% and 50% off sales..today was super busy and it was SO much fun!! Finally lots of books, DVDs, etc are selling..I'm glad, because it's depressing when it's slow at the store. Mike (the former Executive Director) and family came too, and it was so good to see them again (especially Elias, I have a soft spot for him since he was basically raised at the Literacy Council lol). I took a picture with them!
494692093_30332239426374490_9028036528738037296_n
Mike, Elias (omg he's so big now!), Lydia (she proudly told me she was three years old lol) and me. Yay! Tomorrow starts the 50% sale, so it'll probably be crazier than today lol..yay, more fun selling books! :D

Curti's sleepy face is so cute!
495146140_30327927090139057_8291666925481902355_n
Awwww. <3 It's tough being a kitten LOL

I had to increase the doses of my antidepressants since these last couple months have been crazy..the Amitriptyline is supposed to help with sleep, though I never really noticed until now. I'm sleeping SOO much better now, it's amazing lol. Yay!

There's been no one living in the apartment below me for two or three years now (it was Donald, but he accidentally left his back door open when it was like -30, which first froze the pipes, then flooded the first food), and I've been thinking that's a good thing since Curti sounds like a herd of elephants when running around haha, and of course NOW they've decided to work on the apartment..lots of drilling going on (doing it at 8 in the morning is rude though, people are still sleeping! :P). I'll have to tell whoever moves in that Curti likes to play at 10 PM..hopefully they'll understand :P

2. Who was your favorite teacher in elementary school? )
