Yesterday mom and Ryan and I saw Rogue One (Payson's theater is tiny! Haha). It was pretty good. We didn't realize the showing we wanted to see was in 3D till we got there..not a fan of 3D movies, but we were already there and I was bored, so we watched it anyway. 3D doesn't really make it more special..I can't see right and it makes the movie harder to watch. Diego Luna though?

Awww, today's Cherry's birthday!! Squee! :D :D
glacier_kitty: (glacier - greenland)
Yesterday we arrived at Payson! Getting up at 5 something was totally fun..yuck (you know you've gotten up too early when you put your glasses on and your vision is still blurry LOL). I wish I could have seen Denali or something, but between the darkness, clouds and moisture on the window from the de-icer thingy, I could hardly see anything lol (yeah I know I've flown around it many times, but I never get tired of seeing it :P). When we landed in Anchorage we had to RUN to our next flight, since the plane arrived late in Fairbanks to begin with (they let everyone who was going on that flight get off first..thanks Alaska Airlines, you are awesome!!). I hadn't run that far in years LOL. We made it just in time, phew. The captain of this flight was a woman, heck yeah! She was super awesome and nice and funny. I looked for glaciers after we took off, but I only saw one for sure. I wish I knew which one it was (I couldn't get a good pic with my phone, booo)..it's so hard to tell when you're not exactly sure where you are and when everything's so snowy lol. It was pretty big and ended in water though, which was cool. I wanted to see more, but apparently when you fly directly to Phoenix you go over more of the ocean than land (direct to Phoenix is almost 5 hours from Anchorage). On the flight I watched Kubo and the Two Strings (very, VERY good movie) and Ice Age: Collision Course ("the ice is too icy" LOLOL)..pretty ridiculous but still amusing lol. After we landed and got the car and stuff we ate at a yummy barbecue place near Phoenix and then drove up to Payson..it was cool seeing everyone's Christmas lights! Sleeping was nice lol (Also after I opened Pokemon Go at the airport like 10 Pokemon showed up at once haha..lots of Ekans and Sandshrews here lol..I got at least two new ones, yay! At the BBQ place there were two Pokestops right on top of each other! I'd never seen that before :P)

Except for going to the store, today's been pretty lazy lol. Ryan has a cold, ouch. I hope he doesn't give it to us! Being sick on vacation is awful. The weather's cloudy and it's supposed to snow this weekend..noooo, I came here to ESCAPE the snow, not find more LOL

One thing I love about coming to Payson is reading stuff I wrote when I was a kid and stuff, even if I read it last time I was here lol (dad put a box by my room that had school binders in it..pretty sure I had written on every inch of those things haha). I found a school journal entry that I have to share here:

Feelings about The Diary of Anne Frank: I learned that you should have a positive attitude no matter what situation you are in. Anne Frank always had a positive attitude. Even when she was in the concentration camps she never gave up hope that she would get out of there. While she was in hiding, she never gave up hope that they would go back to their normal lives. I think everyone needs to have a positive attitude like Anne Frank had

Wow..WOW. That's deep for a middle schooler!! I guess I got my positivity from Anne Frank then..there aren't enough "wows" in the world to describe how I felt after reading that..

lastly, some pics! )

Mom and I saw the movie Sully tonight..it was pretty good. It's definitely amazing how he pulled off landing in the Hudson River successfully.. (I thought the guy who played his copilot looked a lot like Viggo Mortensen, and it was driving me crazy the whole movie trying to figure out why he looked familiar. I looked him up on IMDB and he was in The Dark Knight..yep, I can see that now lol. Also, that car commercial with Kit Harington they showed before the movie..YUM *swoons*)

My counselor is so awesome and funny lol..he always makes me laugh. Like today I showed him the pic of my Cherry shirt and he was like "so you could have made it say "I love you, Heather"? LOLOL (my ears are burning thinking about it!). I love how easygoing he is lol

I don't know what is up with Firefox's new update, but I definitely do not like it. It doesn't seem to work right..

Today mom and I saw The Secret Life of Pets. It was cute..except for the huge cat discrimination (the characters were always saying stuff like "cats are dumb, dogs are way smarter!") and the gang scene where the rabbit keeps talking about killing the main characters..America doesn't need that right now. The huge cat trying to sit in a tiny box was funny though lol

After the movie we went to Pioneer Park to catch Pokemon LOL (uh oh, even mom's playing now haha). I always feel self-conscious when playing, but a lot of other people were playing Pokemon too or geocaching lol. I helped one group with a tricky cache, and at a Pokestop a guy was like "caching Pokemon, yeah!" to us. I love how this game brings people of all ages together, and it makes walking to places (like work, since I've done it hundreds of times) less tedious. Someone knew what they were doing when they created it :P

Yay! I knew it was gonna happen, but it's still awesome :D

Today mom and I went to the annual Midnight Sun Festival, but we only had time to get some food before it started raining, so we went to the movies with Bonnie instead and saw Finding Dory. So funny and heartwarming lol

Today mom and I saw the Angry Birds Movie..it was fun lol. As usual I liked the adult humor, like there was a book in the pigs' ship called Fifty Shades of Green, and one of the businesses where the birds lived was called Birds and Bees Fertility haha. I was totally surprised that Peter Dinklage was the voice of the Mighty Eagle!

Today mom and I saw Zootopia with Bonnie and her son..it was good, and pretty funny. I always love the adult humor they put in kid's movies haha, like the obvious references to Breaking Bad and The Godfather. The little things were fun too, like the main character's cell phone service was called "PB&J" haha

Today it snowed for the first time in ages (no wonder my head has hurt so much the last couple days)..so weird lol

Yesterday mom and I watched the movie Temple Grandin, since Temple will be in Fairbanks next week. I was BAWLING all over mom after it was over haha. I wish I could post the ending scene here, but YouTube disabled embedding it for some reason. Here is part of what she said: "I'll always be autistic. My mother refused to believe that I wouldn't speak. And when I learned to speak, she made me go to school. And in school and at home, manners and rules were really important. They were pounded into me. I was lucky. All these things worked for me. Everyone worked hard to make sure that I was engaged. I mean, they knew I was different, but not less. You know, I had a gift. I could see the world in a new way. I could see details that other people were blind to. My mother pushed me to become self-sufficient. I worked summers at my aunt's ranch. I went to boarding school and college and those things... Those things were uncomfortable for me at first, but they helped me to open doors to new worlds"

OMG my experience was so similar and I was so happy someone else understood that I just couldn't help crying. Mom always knew I was different, but never treated me less or acted like I was a weirdo. I also see details other people are blind to..all the time I'm telling or asking mom if she saw something I did, but a lot of the time she says she doesn't..it seems weird to me since things like that stick out like crazy to me lol. Everyone (including myself) worked hard helping me as well..I couldn't have asked for a better mom. Temple said she would never not want to be autistic, and I feel the same way, even if it is stressful sometimes. I hope I'm able to talk to her and get a picture with her..she is amazing <3

One of these days I'm gonna upload the rest of my Hawaii pics lol :P /lazy

glacier_kitty: (alaska - glacier)
Before going to the airport, everyone had time to have breakfast together. Susan said she was so happy to see us again and was crying when we had to say goodbye. She hugged me and told me I'm such a sweet girl. Mom said she wanted to stay longer by ourselves so we could geocache more and stuff..that would have been nice, but I couldn't really handle the sun and heat and humidity anymore lol. Mom and I did manage to find two geocaches on the way to the airport, which was nice. I guess nine total is better than none lol. Even if I was tired of the sun, it was still sad to leave lol. I hope there's less drama when I see everyone next time (yeah right :P). Thankfully the flight to Seattle was shorter than when we left from there, 5 hours and some minutes. This time I watched Avengers: Age of Ultron (OMG I love the humor in those movies haha) and National Treasure: Secret of the Tomb (LOL at the lady playing Candy Crush on her computer). We got back to Fairbanks pretty late..it was nice to sleep lol

Here are more pics, though I haven't uploaded all of them yet:

I am in Hawaii! The redeye flight to Seattle was faster than normal (the pilot was proud of that I think lol)..we got there at like 4 or 5 AM..ugh, being awake that early is the worst. D: We had breakfast and hung around for a few hours till our next flight left. The plane was too heavy and they were begging for volunteers to go on a later flight (as far as I know, only one person volunteered and they needed 8 altogether). Later we learned they had moved some luggage to a different flight..luckily ours came, but jeez, they should tell you that BEFORE you even take off!! There was a lady traveling with her cat, which I had to say hi to hehe. That flight must have been one of the LONGEST I've ever been on..it felt never ending!! When I'd already watched a movie and thought we'd been in the air 2-3 hours I asked a flight attendant how much longer we had..she was like "a long time still, 3 or 4 more hours!" Ughhh. I watched He Named Me Malala..she is so amazing..she said she has no ounce of hatred for the Taliban that shot her..wow. She seems funny and has a great relationship with her family. I also watched Inside Out..it started out funny and seemed interesting, but then it just got weird lol. It kinda weirded me out how Riley looked so much like me haha. I probably could have watched another movie too, but I was too tired and wanted to save some for the trip back. Mom and I were so happy when they announced they were serving Mai Tais haha..I'd never had one before, it was pretty good! The line for the bathroom was pretty crazy too..everyone seemed to get up at once and we were always having to squeeze past everyone..a flight attendant said the "waste" was full before we landed..wow lol. I was so happy to finally land in Kona..phew! It was kinda weird seeing family I hadn't seen in ages..Susan, Carl, Jack, Patty and Danny are here so far. Carl's hair is longer than mine, and with his beard he looks so much like dad! After we got settled I had to take a nap and now we're just relaxing. It is SUPER windy here today..makes for good white noise though. Now time to find a Jacuzzi and then bed! I wonder what we're gonna do tomorrow..

I was surprised to read The Martian was nominated for the Oscar for Best Picture..I doubt it'll win, but it was cool to see. it got nominated for other things too, so I hope it'll win something

Payson

glacier_kitty: (mountains - sunset 2)
Yesterday we finally arrived at Payson. On the redeye flight to Seattle I watched American Sniper and on the flight to Phoenix I read, dozed and did a crossword. I do NOT like the airport at Phoenix..it seems outdated and disorganized. The drive to Payson is nice and interesting, though kinda painful when you're tired lol. The weather was beautiful, nice and sunny! We at at Chili's when we got to Payson and took a much needed nap when we got to the house and just relaxed online (mom said it was weird not having cats trying to crawl all over us haha). We recently switched to Verizon and got new phones, so the service is sooo much faster than the just Alaska company we had before. I can go online through the hotspot on mom's phone, and that is so much faster too. I'm glad I don't have to go to Safeway or the library for fast Internet lol

Today we had lunch, found a couple caches and stocked up on food. It's weird..in Alaska you open the outside door into an enclosed entrance before opening the door to go inside (it's to keep the cold air from getting inside). When we walked into the restaurant I was expecting to open another door before going inside, and it felt weird to just automatically be inside haha. Today is another nice day..I hope the sunsets are as nice as they were last time I was here!
glacier_kitty: (glacier - ruth)
Today mom and Bonnie and I saw Mockingjay Part 2..it was pretty good, and the ending was WAY better and less depressing than the book ending. It seemed to have gotten bad reviews..maybe I'm really easily entertained lol (like I LOVED Pompeii, but most people hated it lol). I love that I can go to the movies without getting a migraine now too! Amitriptyline is amazing. We also found a couple geocaches (I've found 600 now, yay!) and went to a Christmas bazaar. Fun!

An album that doesn’t really mean anything; it’s just a good, fun time )
glacier_kitty: (night sky 5)
Yesterday mom and I saw Everest..it was pretty good, and very sad. The cinematography and the shots of the mountains was awesome too. They actually filmed at Everest Base Camp and Kathmandu and stuff, which is pretty awesome. We also found an EarthCache since yesterday was International EarthCache Day and you got a digital souvenir (ugh, I can NEVER spell that word right!) for finding one (I feel special and am always like "yaaay!" when I get one haha!). It was such a nice day!

Today Denise said that on Friday the bookstore made over $700!!! That's an AMAZING sale day for us. It was pretty busy and I was hoping we'd do well..I never thought it would be that epic though haha. Sweet!

Mom and Bonnie and I just saw The Martian..it was good, and definitely funny. Though they left things out and changed the ending..it worked though. And yay, Sean Bean didn't die for once :D (that's actually mentioned in the trivia section on the movie's IMDb page haha!)

Meru

Oct. 3rd, 2015 08:00 pm
glacier_kitty: (mountains - sunset)
Today mom and I saw Meru (a mountain climbing documentary) with Bonnie. I had never even heard of it till Bonnie texted mom asking if we wanted to see it (it's at one of those places where you can eat dinner and watch the movie at the same time). It was pretty good..Conrad Anker and his climbing partner were trying to climb a super hard route on Mt. Meru that had never been climbed before. It took like 20 years and at least 3 attempts, but they finally made it. I'd heard of Conrad (he found Mallory's body, who died trying to climb Everest), but I'd never heard of his attempts on Meru (that I can remember lol..I've read a lot of mountaineering books :P). Tomorrow we're gonna see The Martian..I hope it's as funny as the book!

Yesterday mom found a dead grouse that had flew into a window..Ryan was like "OMG let's cook it and eat it!!" So he plucked it, cleaned it and cooked it (Abby wanted some of the grouse too lol..she was trying to claw up Ryan's legs :P). Ryan has been wanting to do that for a LONG time..like when he was a kid in Texas he walked through the woods with a slingshot looking for rabbits, and one year up here he put squirrel snares out (he didn't get any though). He was so happy he finally got his chance now lol..I didn't have any, but mom said it was pretty good! Mom said they had window kill for dinner LOL

Oh YEAH!! I'm surprised I hadn't seen the trailer before now. It's based on the 1996 disaster. It looks emotional, but good (I know it's just a movie, but I still hope it's accurate lol)

TOTALLY want to see this movie..I just read the book and it was hilarious..looks like the movie will be too (at least the guy stuck on Mars was funny, everyone at NASA was freaking out lol). Interesting that Jessica Chastain and Matt Damon are in it, since they're both in Interstellar too (and Sean Bean is in it! He better not die :P). And it's directed by Ridley Scott with music by Harry Gregson-Williams? Heck yeah!
