On Saturday, the bookstore made $8,626, our best sale yet! It seemed like there were 100 people in the building when we opened haha. It was pretty epic! We promote our merch (shirts, bags, etc) a lot more now, and that's one reason why we do so well now. Because I worked Saturday, I had today off, so I figured I'd pamper myself haha and get my hair cut!

Nice! I love choppy layers lol. There was drama though, when I got out of the car I saw a police officer trying to run on the slippery ice after someone..he was holding a taser and screaming "GET ON THE GROUND!!!" The guy finally listened and that's when at least 6 or so other police officers arrived..all that for one guy?? Crazy lol

Mom and I also saw The Wild Robot. I've been curious about the book it's based on, but thought I was too old to read a middle grade book. I was worried the movie would be too "kids-y," but it was SO good! The animation and use of color was GORGEOUS and it just had a great story. I definitely need to read the book now!

Last night, Carmen did my hair! She has a little salon in her house, which is cool. She did a very good job, and my hair was so soft!

Today we went back to Castillo Serralles..it was built during the 1930s for Juan Eugenio Serrallés, whose family owned a distillery (still do, actually). It's a museum now. In the gift shop, they just gave you samples of their alcohol to try..that would never happen in the US!! Their rum was SUPER strong, and kinda made my lips numb! Unfortunately, you weren't allowed to take pictures inside (we had to take a guided tour, and that would probably slow the tour down), which was unfortunate, because it was GORGEOUS, and the antique furniture and items were so cool! There was even a four-poster bed!! I actually gasped when I saw it LOL, and mom was like "uh oh, Heather's melting!" I had a feeling there would be one in there. ;) Thankfully, there's a picture of it online that I saved. After that we went to the lookout point nearby (Camilla joined us after she got out of school), which gave nice views of Ponce, the mountains and Caja de Muertos. Then we went to the Japanese gardens, which was pretty. It's really sad, but there are a lot of stray animals running around..mostly cats and dogs, but I've seen horses and chickens too. I wish they had homes. :( Then we went back to the house to pack...

...because today is our last day in Puerto Rico (where does the time go??). It's a pretty place with nice people, but too hot for me! I'm definitely going to miss all the fresh drinks I've gotten (orange juice, lemonade, etc), they are SO good! It's normal here to wish someone "buen provecho" (enjoy your food) when eating, even complete strangers. We were eating ice cream at a park and two people who walked by said it! It was cool to meet the rest of Jo's family, and see a new place. It's weird though, because I've slept better here than I ever do at home! Usually it takes me a long time to go to sleep, but not here. Maybe because the room is air conditioned, and I feel cozy under the blankets? I'll be interested to see how I sleep when I get back home lol. We're actually staying the night in Seattle tomorrow, since we have an eight hour layover, so we'll get to Fairbanks on Saturday. It might be hard to go back to winter, but it'll be nice to see Abby again. <3 It was a great trip!

pics from today! )

2 – Stress Awareness Day: How stressful is your everyday life? How well do you deal with stress? Do you have any tried-and-true strategies for handling stress? It can depend, but usually it's manageable. I might have to just wait it out, or take Clonazepam if it's really bad

Today I got my hair cut!

I hadn't got it cut in a couple years, and it definitely needed help haha (all of it wasn't even the same length!). After the past week, I definitely needed to treat myself. :P It's so light and soft now! I shouldn't wait so long to cut it lol

Abby definitely missed sleeping with me..last night she curled up against my head and purred..awwww <3

I recently read a book called The Elements of a Home, and thought it would be fun to put an interesting fact about each item here (I love trivia LOL). Today's item is the bathtub: Unfortunately for public health and personal hygiene, the arrival of the plague in the fourteenth century put an end to the bathtub for the next four hundred years. Bathing was believed to dilate the pores and allow harmful substances to enter the body. [Wtf..I'm sure that made the plague even worse.] It wasn't until Enlightenment [17th-18th centuries] thinking brought about a renewed understanding of the importance of cleanliness that Europeans gradually (read: modestly) began to dip a toe back into the water. And so began the private bath

After reading it was going to be in the 80s this week, I had to get it cut..not only was my long hair hot, it was heavy! It was hard to get it cut so drastically, and I still miss it, but it was way overdue (it'll grow back eventually :P). It was SO weird and effortless brushing it haha! For some reason I thought everyone would be mad I cut it, but everyone seemed to like it. It's nice not having it in the way all the time too :P

Yesterday my coworkers and I went to an Escape Room (another fun thing we wanted to do with Paulette before she left lol). I've been playing escape games online for years, but I'd never done one in person. It was hard, but really fun! The workers there must have thought we were insane since we were so loud and obnoxious LOL. We were split into two teams and had one hour to escape..one team had to disarm a bomb and the team I was on had to escape from a tomb in Egypt. Neither team solved it in time, but we came close! One thing we had to do was put chess pieces in the correct spaces, and when we did a hidden door popped open, and all of us just FREAKED OUT haha, it was hilarious! I felt smart when I put two clues together, and everyone was like "Heather's got it!!!," and ran over to decode the clue as fast as possible..awesome. :P It was so fun..we should do it again when the rooms are changed in October!

Here's a pic they took of us!

Today's trivia: German leaders in World War II figured out how important tea time was for their enemies. Six days after D-Day, British forces stopped for a break, exiting their vehicles to make tea. Within 15 minutes, 14 tanks, 9 half-tracks, 4 gun carriers, and 2 anti-tank guns were lost to an ambush, prompting the addition of internal tea-making facilities for all vehicles

This morning I had another appointment with Mary and Nina and we finalized when I'm gonna work. For October I'm gonna work 10-4 on Monday and 3-6 on Thursday. Then when mom switches her days off to Friday and Saturday at the end of October I'm gonna work 10-4 on both days. Mary extended my time till February! After that I got my hair done. The stylist used good smelling conditioner and I bought some haha. I got my hair a bit shorter and got more layers

Mom and I ran a bunch of errands today..eughhh. Mom had an appointment to get her hair cut and there was someone able to do my hair and eyebrows too. I was gonna get a trim but I was like "why not do something different?" so the hairdresser said she'd trim it and put layers in and stuff but it was gonna still be considered long. Well she chopped a BUNCH of my hair off. Thaaaaaanks. I get it long only to get it chopped off again. At least hair grows back. I have a pic of it along with pics with the neighbor's horse from yesterday
