It's hard to eat and use my laptop when Abby's in my lap haha, but when a cat chooses to sit in your lap, you just can't say no! Her old bones are very creaky now, I have to be careful with moving her..I don't want anything to get broken!

Today I had to do errands because I really need a new computer chair and desk (sorry Abby :P)..I found ones I liked, but I'm nervous I won't like the change..the desk doesn't arrive until sometime in December, so I have lots of time to get mentally prepared :P

There are live cameras on YouTube filming the Icelandic volcano erupting..it's fun to watch it for a couple minutes throughout the day!

Such cool shots of Sundhnúkagígar in Iceland erupting! (It's actually hard to find the name of the volcano in news reports because no one besides Icelanders can spell it LOL. Their names look like a cat just walked across the keyboard :P) I'm SO jealous people can see the eruption when they're flying in! It's really impressive how they built the barriers to save the hot springs. I want to go to Iceland so much..I looked at flights and it takes like 36 hours from Alaska. O_o That kind of trip would definitely need to be split up! Icelandic names are also epic..how cool is something like "Hildur Guðnadóttir"??

This is my favorite GIF right now:

It's super fun saying "bed curtains?? Ahhh, bed curtains!!" LOL. I love her head nod thing when she looks away from the guy. There was one version I watched where Scrooge said "my wonderful, wonderful bed curtains!!" and hugged them haha. I'm so glad A Christmas Carol exists :P

25. What Do You Look Forward to Most – and Least – During the Holiday Season? )

Last weekend, dad was coming in on a flight that was super early, so mom decided just to stay up and go to bed after she got back home. She then started hearing these weird booming noises, like a war was going on, and a little shaking. Later in the day she asked everyone else if they heard anything, but we said no (especially since I sleep with white noise). Mom thought it was weird, but none of us pursued it further. Yesterday dad was talking about the underwater volcano that erupted near tonga, and how it was bigger than any nuclear bomb that's been dropped. I mentioned how big Krakatoa's eruption was, how it was heard 3000 miles away, and mom was suddenly like "WAIT A MINUTE!! When did the Tonga volcano erupt??" We researched..and the exact time she heard those noises..is when the sound waves reached Alaska, 7-8 hours later. So that means..SHE HEARD A VOLCANIC ERUPTION FROM 6000 MILES AWAY!!! That is SO COOL!! (Move over, Krakatoa!) I'm jealous! Other people in Alaska and Canada said on Facebook that they also heard it, and they thought it sounded like a war too. That is crazy! Nature can definitely so some amazing things..

Well, it finally happened..covid found the Literacy Council. Last week a GED student that came in tested positive, so the whole GED department had to quarantine at home. Denise had also felt sniffy one day last week, but figured it was just something she was allergic to since she was fine the next day. Well..today she woke up sick, and tested positive for covid. Denise is super healthy, so I was pretty shocked (she hadn't gotten the booster yet though). I work directly with her, so I had to get tested too, which came up negative..phew! I definitely got the booster just in time lol, though I'll definitely test again if I start getting symptoms like she first had. I hope she gets well quickly, she goes crazy with boredom too if she's home for too many days in a row :P

Coool. This volcano has been erupting for the past couple days (it's one of the most active volcanoes in the US). Flights were canceled, but the closest community is 37 miles away, so no one is in danger of lava or anything except for some ash fall probably. Nature is so cool!

The weather has been so gross today..rainy and damp, ew. It's annoying having to navigate around puddles lol

The Weather Channel talked about Alaska's crazy heat yesterday! I love when they pay attention to Alaska haha. It's amusing to hear them try to pronounce the names here though.."Talkeeda" is definitely not how you pronounce "Talkeetna" :P

I wanted so badly to see into the crater like that while I was there haha. Maybe next time we'll fly over in a helicopter. So awesome to experience, even just seeing steam and the glow. :D (And that is NOT how you pronounce Pu'u O'o haha. You pronounce every letter in Hawaiian :P)

Today we took a tour to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. We went in a van with other people (13 in total). The guide picks you up at different hotels..one was the Mauna Lani! I stayed there last time with dad and LOVED it..it was nice to see it again. :D Mark was pretty knowledgeable about Hawaiian legends, plants, animals, etc. It's nice to have that extra touch. It takes a couple hours to get to the park..it's on the wet side of the island. It was interesting transitioning from sere hilly land to wet lush forest. When we went through the dry area Mark was telling about GLACIERS that used to be on the volcanoes around us!! WHAT..glaciers in HAWAII??! He even showed us a terminal moraine from one of the glaciers!! I never thought I'd see anything relating to glaciers here! He said when the glaciers melted all that silty dirt blew off the volcanoes and formed the mounds around us. AWESOME haha. It was rainy and chilly while we were there..I feel like it's like that everywhere besides our hotel..wth haha. We drove to the summit of Kilauea (4,190 feet) and looked down at the caldera, which was steaming! There's a lava lake there (you can't see it unless you were in a helicopter or something). Pretty cool. We also explored lava fields, went to these cliffs (it was super fun to watch the waves just smash up against them! You could feel it in your feet! You could also see steam in the distance from lava going into the ocean) and explored a lava tube..way cool! Lava looks so interesting. There was also a lovely forest with huge ferns and cool bird sounds. We ate dinner near Kilauea's summit (it was dark by now) and then went back up to the summit to see the glow from the lava! (Luckily the clouds weren't totally obscuring it) It was so cool..it was bright orange/red and you could see it pulsing as the lava rose and fell! Wow. Then it was time for the long dark drive back to our hotels..luckily I had a flashlight (Mark gave them to us for the walk to the summit) so I read on the way back. I'm glad to be back on the warm side of the island haha..or at least the sunny/warm window at the hotel. :P Now..bed!
