Yesterday mom had a dentist appointment, so we left for Anchorage pretty late (after 1). We were going to stop in Healy for snacks (1 1/2-2 hours away) and that part of the drive seemed to last FOREVER haha (and it was raining..ugh). The trip seemed to go by faster after we got snacks lol. The fall colors were pretty, though a lot of the leaves had fallen off the trees in the mountains. Mom put on music from her phone when the radio died..I Googled The Sound of Silence when it came on, and read this: "Simon wrote 'The Sound of Silence' when he was 21 years old, later explaining that the song was written in his bathroom, where he turned off the lights to better concentrate. 'The main thing about playing the guitar, though, was that I was able to sit by myself and play and dream. And I was always happy doing that. I used to go off in the bathroom, because the bathroom had tiles, so it was a slight echo chamber. I'd turn on the faucet so that water would run (I like that sound, it's very soothing to me) and I'd play. In the dark.'" He..composed one of his most famous songs by playing with water in his bathroom?? I won't think of the song the same way again probably LOL. The last 50 or so miles to Anchorage is painful too, since you have to drive slower in the populated areas and you're tired and just want to get there already!! Haha. It was after 8 when we finally found the hotel..laying on the nice bed felt HEAVENLY haha. Nice curtains too! It was nice to relax the rest of the night lol

Today mom dropped me off at Title Wave Books and went to her appointment. There are WAY too many tempting things in that store LOL..I just kept adding more things!! I found one book (Mutiny on the Globe) that's been on my Amazon wishlist since 2019!! There was a section for curtain/window treatment books too, and of course had to get a couple of those LOL. Mom shopped some when she was done with her appointment too. I was there for THREE hours..there were other books to look at, but I already had an obscene amount and my eyes were tired, so I had to get out of there LOL. *bank account cringes* After that we had lunch at Yak and Yeti a couple doors down (a Himalayan restaurant..hadn't been there in a long time!), got something for dad at Lowe's, then went back to the hotel (mom's still recovering from covid, and is still pretty tired). Not sure what we're doing for dinner, but I'm slowly getting hungry lol. Hopefully tomorrow we'll be less tired :P

These two moose have been frequenting the lake and the general area lately:
273443736_7861866703838416_445880294683015525_n
Definitely a mom and her calf. Jo keeps running into them when walking Sid, and there have been tracks in the driveway. Yesterday and today they just laid down on the lake for hours. So cool! I was worried I wouldn't see that kind of thing when my parents moved to town lol

They have such long legs haha

There was also a 5.2 earthquake last night that was felt in Anchorage too..it amuses me how people's first reaction is to go on Facebook and ask if anyone else felt it :P

Earlier mom and I left her house to go to the store and stuff, but she had to go back because she forgot her phone..mom was about to get out when I saw two moose run from the back of the house right in front of the car! I gasped and was like "mom...mom!!" and she looked up and was like "WHOA!" haha. I was too shocked to take a picture right then (mom hates it when my brain freezes up and stutters when I get shocked..she said "this was like when you saw a bear charging the car! B-b-b-bear!" and I said "m-m-m-moose!!" haha), but here are a couple pics from further away after I recovered lol

A mom and calf, probably. This is the first time I've seen moose at the new house! (Dad's seen one before there though.) I'm glad I still get to see them, even if my heart was racing :P (mom was glad she had forgotten her phone haha!)

90431000_4440255945999526_7395178001396137984_o
Awww, they came back! They seem to be living in the area, since my parents and others on Facebook keep seeing them. Mom took down the birdfeeder because she was afraid they'd break the window, and the calf was very disappointed LOL. I wish I had been fast enough to get Abby and him touching their noses to the window, it was so cute! I love his fuzzy ears lol

Aww, yesterday these two came over to say hi and to get some food lol. Mom said she saw them the other day, and other people in the area have seen them as well. So cool seeing them so close safely! I'm always amazed at how big they are haha. Greyboy wasn't sure what to think :P

All the volleyball games for the season are now canceled. :( I think they should get an extra two months next season, even the seniors. Evil virus is evil!

Today mom and I went kayaking on Piledriver Slough with Bonnie (we went geocaching there a couple years ago too)! She and mom and a falling-out for a couple years, but they suddenly seem to be fine with each other again lol. I missed hanging out with her, so that was cool. It takes 2-3 hours if you're just lazily floating along, which is enough for me..it gets uncomfortable sitting for so long! It was nice listening to the Swainson's Thrushes and smelling the spruce forest. <3 We saw a moose too! It was SO HOT though (89)..the breeze felt like it was coming out of an oven! I bet that fire near Murphy Dome has grown a LOT today. Still nice to get out in nature though! It's nice getting better at paddling too :P

Today and yesterday were Customer Appreciation days at work, where most everything in the store was 50% off and there were garage sale type things too..we made over $2000 yesterday!! Awesome. It's fun, but VERY tiring..worth it though!

I have here..VOLUME 2 OF THE FIRST EDITION OF THE WORST JOURNEY IN THE WORLD!! My apartment is blessed with its presence LOL (it's pretty rare! I wonder how many other people have one..). It's pretty beat up, but good enough for me! Super cool :D (the frontispiece, which is a fancy term for "picture at the beginning of a book," is one of Wilson's drawings. I've been wanting to use "frontispiece" in casual conversation LOL)

Today's trivia: The pleasant smell of first rain after a long time (called petrichor) is actually due to geosmin produced by bacteria present in wet soil. It is also attributed to an oil released by plants to keep themselves from drying out

Denali

Yesterday we drove to Denali..it was sooo cold and windy..ugh. Our hotel suite is AWESOME though..it's more like an apartment! I think after we settled in we looked in a couple shops, had dinner (best sourdough bread EVER *drools*) and then relaxed at the hotel

Today the weather was even worse than yesterday..cold, windy, rainy and SNOWY..like, a full on snowstorm. Ugh wtf. We still went hiking at Savage River (mom and I hiked there before, it's really pretty). It was a two mile hike round-trip. It's amazing how much my special shoes help when I hike now..I don't feel like I'm flailing and tripping all the time (mom noticed too!). I'm amazed just a pair of shoes helps my ankle problems! On the drive back to the hotel we saw two moose! A lot of people got out of their car to take pictures, which isn't really a good idea, especially if it's a mom and her calf! I wasn't even comfortable being that close in the car..eesh. You could definitely tell the mama moose was alert and a little stressed. We had lunch at the hotel, went to a bunch of the shops (I got a really cool opal vein rock!!), had dinner (the snow was REALLY coming down now), looked in more shops and now we're relaxing

Tomorrow we're going to Girdwood and staying at a ski resort (mom and I stayed there once a few years ago). The forecast says it's supposed to be CLEAR down there and other places we want to go to down south. It BETTER be, I am soooo tired of the rain and cold. I don't know what is up with the weather in the Interior, but I can't wait to get out of it and see the sun!!

Today mom and I tried to find a cache on an island in the middle of the river..we didn't find it (ugh! It was hard work getting up there and wading through snow) but we did see a moose cross the river! Yay..I hadn't seen a moose in a long time! Here's a pic of me on the river:

Dad was getting ready to leave and then was like "look look!" and ran to get his iPad. I looked outside and there were two moose right outside the window! A third soon joined them. They were eating the seeds the birds dropped and plants around the house. They kept looking inside..I have the best pics haha

Dana and I are back from Valdez. The weather was somewhat better than yesterday..of course, since we're not on a glacier cruise. :P I actually found a Valdez shirt this time! Finally haha. :P The mountains were gorgeous, but THERE WAS FRESH SNOW ON THEM! DUDE haha. I bet last winter's snow isn't gonna melt by winter. Usually you can see all the glaciers clearly but if you didn't know they were there you wouldn't have seen most of them cause of all the snow. Once we got 50 some miles inland the weather became nice and sunny. There was fresh snow in the Alaska Range too!! Last winter's snow hasn't melted all the way there either. Hopefully some glaciers will be growing now. ;) Mt. Deborah and stuff looked amazingg and so pretty..they're always snowy but the extra snow in the sun was just..*drools* I love mountains. We made it home pretty quickly I think, even after stopping for lunch at Paxson and getting ice cream at Delta Junction. We saw two moose! Her vacation is complete. ;) Haha. Dana leaves soon. *sniff* It was awesome though, sharing Alaska with her. I bet she loved it :D (Pics in the next few days..too tired to upload them now :P)
