This is about LJ, but I'll post it here anyway :P

Screenshot 2024-04-17 at 3.33.03 PM

1. LJ appeared in April 1999, the year when I… became worried about Y2K haha..I've always hated people's "end of the world" predictions :/
2. As a child, I wanted to become a… botanist, vet, person who delivered mail..those are the main ones I can remember, anyway
3. My favorite school subject was… Reading, Latin, World History, gym with the special ed. kids..
4. The tune of my carefree youth is... "Who Let the Dogs Out?," "Floorfiller" (to this day, when I see an "out of order" sign, the lyric "something's out of order, people in the corners" STILL gets in my head haha), "My Heart Will Go On," etc
5. A book (or an author) that influenced me... so many! The Worst Journey in the World is definitely one of them though, along with the Shannara series, Where the Red Fern Grows, etc
6. A city (or cities) I truly love... Wheathampstead, London, Carcassonne, Valdez, Watertown (Wisconsin), etc
7. I started an LJ blog in … because I wanted... 2004, because my friend at the time had one and suggested I make one too, because it was fun for her and another way we could communicate with her (I think we met on Quizilla?? Ohh the memories haha). I haven't looked back since! It's WEIRD reading entries from back then though, I was completely different!
8. The catch phrase that nearest and dearest recognize me by… "fancy!" (I LOVE saying that word haha), "that's cool," "nice!," etc
9. A movie I’m never tired to watch again... Harry Potter is always entertaining..
10. When I was 25, I liked to… go online, geocache, travel, watch movies, etc
11. I can’t live a day without… my glasses
12. An LJ post I’d like to recommend to everyone… when I went to Weathampstead in 2018, for one
13. I’m proud of… not being a controlling friend anymore (it was awful, I made people give me a time I could talk to them online, and would get SUPER upset if they couldn't for whatever reason..ugh), doing well at work, overcoming depression and coming out a better person, etc
14. If I could give advice to myself from 1999, I’d… say "relax, don't get so upset over trivial things!"
15. My favorite LJ blog(s)... aw, it's not fair to single them out! They're all good in different ways lol
16. My favorite LJ community (-ies)... surveys was always fun, people almost never post there anymore though..maybe surveys are less popular than they used to be..
17. A dish (or a food product) I learned to like only as an adult... onions, Indian food..probably others I can't think of haha
18. Within these 25 years I’ve visited… Switzerland, Wisconsin, Catalina Island, England, Anchorage, Florida, San Diego, Yuma, Puerto Rico, Rome, etc
19. My favorite cure for sadness is… taking a nap, playing a fun "hidden cat" game (I'm totally addicted haha), maybe eating bad food lol
20. If I didn’t have to work, I’d do… too much sitting around, probably. I get a lot of exercise at work, I'm always running around doing something..it helps keep me sane :P
21. My superpower is… for some reason, babies like to look/smile at me (it bothered me when I was younger, but now I just smile and wave back lol). I've been somewhere where a baby was crying, looked at me, and just..stopped and became calm. Dogs that don't like strangers will come up to me and want to be pet. I can identify certain glaciers in pictures. A lot of the time when I travel, even if it's a place that's usually cloudy, it will get sunny when I'm there, etc
22. A useful skill I’d like to teach younger generations is… hmmm..not sure..
23. If I could spend a day as an animal, that would be… a bird, so I could fly into the mountains and see glaciers!
24. The way I’d like to grow old is… happily, never losing my excitement for things I like
25. I’m grateful to LJ for… meeting so many great people!! I have met Dana in person many times. Giving me a place where I can write my adventures/obsessions, etc, and preserving so many memories! Life wouldn't be the same without LJ!

i found a book about four-poster beds! )

13. What Would You Choose to Do If You Had Unlimited Free Time and No Restrictions? That's alright for like a day, then I start going crazy and need to go back to work haha. Probably go online and obsessively play hidden cat games LOL

14. Is Struggle Essential to Happiness? It can be..you definitely appreciate the good things more after you've been struggling!

15. What Kinds of Games and Puzzles Do You Like? Hidden things (cats, letters, etc. There's a whole "I Commissioned Some..." series on Steam, where artists were paid to hide things in their art, like cats, ladybugs, etc. I LOVE them!), crosswords, ones like Betrayal at House on the Hill, etc

16. What Would You Like to Learn to Make by Hand? Not sure, I'm terrible at making things/being crafty lol

17. When and For What Reasons Do You Seek Silence? To recharge (like after work or other social events), something might be too overwhelming, etc

This is also my 20th year on LJ..WOW. There's definitely lots of history here!

I go back to work tomorrow..good, I've been getting "cabin fever-y" haha. It'll be nice seeing my work family again!

Woooow. The sheet of ice on the snow looked so weird! It was so smooth and shiny lol. Work has indeed been closed all this week. Thankfully the snow has finally stopped, but now it's going to be in the -20s and -30s for the next week..guess it's one or the other this winter :P

Happy birthday, LJ!! I was just finishing 9th grade when I started my LJ, and my life has never been the same since! So many great people I've met here <3

I finally got my new glasses with the prism, and it's very..weird. I about fell over when I put them on LOL. Hopefully I can get used to them :P

It's in the 50s today, so nice!!

#2019

Yay me :P

I can't believe the year and decade is almost over! I did so many awesome things..traveled to cool places like Switzerland and Glacier Bay, got a paying position at work, saw lots of glaciers, overcame depression and found Cherry when I needed him most (in 2016, and 16 is my favorite number..coincidence? I think not!), etc. I hope the next decade has more awesome things in store!

pokemon update )

Day 361: A song that describes how incredibly freaking awesome that you are: Uhh..I don't know lol

Day 362: A song that you think sums up this past year: Not sure..

Day 363: A song that sums up a big event that happened to you in the last year: Hmm.."Glaciers"?

Day 364: A song that you first heard from doing this challenge: It might have been one called Heather..

Awesome :D

I really want to post my pics from Notre Dame, but they're in Payson. The damage was pretty bad, but I'm glad things like the Rose Window survived. I hope they can rebuild!

Last night I had a dream I went to Wheathampstead and Cherry's grave with mom and Dana, it was awesome lol

Day 99-105 )

Today's trivia: A glass ball bounces higher than a rubber ball

Cool!

Ughh I changed my LJ to the "new" design hoping that would solve the Photobucket problem, but it didn't..I don't really like it, but I guess I have to live with it now. :/ My pictures work other places, like Dreamwidth, so LJ must have changed something..weird

I keep meeting the coolest people lately..a customer came in wanting to donate books, and Paulette asked what kind of books he had. He was like "Alaska, climbing, polar exploration.." Well THAT caught my attention lol..I asked which ones and he said "all of them! Like a first edition of Nansen's book with color plates." Ooooh! I asked if he had The Worst Journey in the World and he was like "Apsley Cherry-Garrard?" ("SQUEE *nods excitedly*") "Yeah, that book got me to the right place in Antarctica." He had gone to Scott's hut!! OMG. OMG. Jealous! I MUST get there someday! I'd love to browse that guy's library, it sounds amazing :D

Speaking of Cherry, I think this is my least favorite pic of him:

His expression makes me shiver!! Haha

pics for sept. 23-25 )

Today's trivia: Hugging trees can help koala bears lose up to 68% of their body heat on hot days
glacier_kitty: (Default)
I just read a novel about the Scott expedition..different parts of the expedition were told by each member who went to the South Pole (Evans, Wilson, Scott, Birdie, Oates). I thought it was just going to be the march to the Pole, so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it was about different parts of the expedition. Birdie's part was the journey to Cape Crozier, yay!! I never get tired of reading about that amazing journey (I'm sure the author read The Worst Journey in the World, since some of the sentences were very similar to ones from The Worst Journey). I shivered with delight whenever Cherry had dialogue LOL

here are some passages i'd like to share! )

I hope nothing terrible happens with the new Terms of Service thing..I will be here till the end. I have a Dreamwidth in case LJ implodes or something so I have a backup, but LJ is like a second home to me since I've been here so long (since 2004!). I hope everything turns out alright..

Last night I had a dream I went grocery shopping with Samuel L. Jackson LOL..how random :P

pics for april 4 and 5 )

Today's trivia: The signature line on checks is not a line. It is actually made up of very small repeating print, "AUTHORIZED SIGNATURE." The MP (micro-security print) logo at the end of the "line" indicates that the very tiny print is present (WHOA. Mind = blown)
glacier_kitty: (Default)
May 20th was my ten year anniversary of being on LJ..for some reason I completely forgot on that day even though it's been in the back of my mind for the past few months haha. That's amazing..I've met so many awesome people and there's SO much history here! I'd go crazy without a place to document my adventures and stuff (sure there are other blogs, but none are as good as LJ..). I'll probably be on LJ for as long as it's around (don't ever shut down please!! Haha). Yay LJ!

18. be known as a drug dealer or be known as a liar? )

Today's trivia: A hedgehog's heart beats 300 times a minute on average
glacier_kitty: (Default)
So yesterday soon after I posted that entry mom and I walked out of the building to go to dinner and this lady comes over and was like "I saw there was a new geocache over here!" I was shocked it had gotten published that fast..and that someone was already looking for it!! (She actually works close by..she must have dropped everything to find it haha.) So she was the first to find, yay! No one else has found it yet though (I get an email when someone finds it). Hopefully more people will soon! (One day I'll have something else to talk about :P)

And EW at the new LJ layout. D: I'm so glad you could change it back to the old one!

11. have a missing finger or have an extra toe? )

Today's trivia: Animal cracker boxes were made with a string on the box so they could be used as Christmas tree ornaments
glacier_kitty: (Default)
Geocaching in Space was pretty fun..it was nice to put a face to the names I've seen online (you log your find online). People had some awesome costumes, and the house was decorated spacey too. We had food and talked and watched the launch (from Kazakhstan). I felt kinda inferior since a lot of them were like hardcore cachers who had like 400 collectables and went 30 miles on a snowmachine in the White Mountains to cache haha! They were all very nice though. After eating and stuff we went out to the bonfire..and the Northern Lights decided to come out!! (I was hoping they would, since it was clear) Aw, how cool and magical feeling! I loved when wisps of them danced right above me. :D It got COLD though..it was like 2 degrees! It would have been too cold without the bonfire haha. They shot off fireworks too. What a great night! Nice to meet new people too and feel like I have a life haha

I think I'm gonna change my LJ name to glacier_kitty..if you see an unfamiliar name, that's me haha. goodnesglaciers is cool, but I want a unique name I thought of (plus the one s not being there drives me crazy haha). It combines two of my biggest passions, so yay :D

some pics from the night )

Would you rather have a sleepwalking problem that causes you to wander the streets at night or causes you to get up at night and pee all over your furniture? Uhh..the first one..

Today's trivia: "Silent Night" was first sung as part of a church service in Austria. A guitar was used because the church organ was so badly rusted it couldn't be played

OMG haha..today in class we had a "group quiz." I seemed to know what I was doing and getting things right that people were asking help from ME (and I could see what they did wrong!). Dude..when did I get good at math?? Haha

Today at work someone bought $323 worth of DVDs and VHS tapes..Paulette was like "are you sure about this?" and she just shrugged and bought them. Wow haha (plus we just got in TONS of DVDs so there were lots to choose from). Our goal in the store is $300 a day..guess that didn't take long today :P

Hmm..looks like they finally changed the update page..not particularly a fan (come on, I was using the old one for like 9 years!). Too much white. O_O Oh well..I'll just turn the brightness down when I update. :P I really like the new userpic thing though..I like seeing the pics displayed haha

There's a solar eclipse today! In Alaska it starts at 3:20 PM and greatest coverage is at 4:35. I think dad and I are gonna watch at Creamer's Field since they're having a viewing party there. I've never seen a solar eclipse so it should be interesting and awesome. Hope it stays as clear as it is now

Today I've had my LJ 8 years..wow haha

Day 14: A picture of how you are feeling (Smiley face, sad face, angry face, etc.) )
glacier_kitty: (Default)
I'm now a member of Goodreads! It looks like a good place to keep track of the books I'm reading. I really like it so far as I'm exploring what's on it. Here's my profile if you'd like to see: http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/7326690

Mom said Snowy ripped out his stitches and had to go back to the vet and get staples. He has to wear a collar thing and can't go outside for two weeks. Poor kitty..he's not gonna like that. He's having such a rough time lately..

It looks like LJ changed the font for entries..weird. It feels like I'm writing a paper for school haha

Day 90- A picture of someone who could be your twin )

Would you rather have your parachute not open all the way and come down twice as fast as normal, and land in a huge pile of straw or land in the deep end of somebody's swimming pool? The straw..it would REALLY hurt landing in water that fast

Today's trivia: Rip currents are stronger at low tide
glacier_kitty: (Default)
Dear people having trouble with the new editor: umm..don't use it? Haha..I don't use it and it works just fine. I just get the code and post it :P

Today I went to Fred Meyer cause I read the Ice Road Truckers were having a meet and greet! But only 4 of them were there..and one, maybe two I recognized (the boss guy). Mom and I really wanted to meet Lisa, our favorite. Fail haha

Day 51- A picture edited by you )
glacier_kitty: (Default)
YAY LJ is back!!! OMG I missed it so much haha. It's such a huge part of my life..unlike other people on Facebook I will never leave LJ as long as it stays online. So many memories, communities, friends, etc. So happy I can post again :D (*glares at hackers*)

Today I took the bus with Nina so I could practice. I was too scared to do it alone so she went with me. Aw I love Nina, she's so helpful and supportive :D
