You Are Investigative

More than anything else, you are a thinker. You love learning for its own sake and thinking through things.
You are not a person of action, at least, not until you've researched and analyzed things completely. You always think first.

You prefer to work individually, and you often get completely wrapped up in your own projects. You enjoy being self-directed.
You have interesting ideas, and you tend to be a very independent person. You draw your own conclusions, even if others believe the facts are in.

I had another meeting with that lady at the library today and I'm now gonna be volunteering on Mondays from 3-5. I hope I like it haha

a couple more )

Today Nina and I met with my new DVR counselor, Lizzy. She seems calmer and less bubbly than Michele. We talked about doing a trial work experience at the library after I get back from vacation. If I don't like it I don't have to stay..might as well try it..

Day 25: Five people you talk to on a regular basis )

Today I had an interview/meeting with the manager at Cold Spot Feeds (a pet store) to see if I could do a work assessment or something there (I went with Nina of course). The manager was really nice, but he said there's a LOT of info you need to know and there could be lots of customers needing your attention at once and stuff. He said it was challenging and people have literally quit on the spot. Well..that's scary haha. I think we might do a 4 hour job try to see how I like it (the manager has to talk to the owners first). No harm in trying anyway (unless a dog bites me..haha). Nina's also gonna call Petco and see what they have to say..

Would you rather cause a car accident because you were staring at the butt of a sexy pedestrian or have an uninsured driver hit you? The second one

This is one of the longest hot spells I've seen up here. It feels like 90 or 100 degrees in Texas. Yesterday it felt like the floor in my apartment had heaters under it. D: I'm glad I have fans. It doesn't look like it'll break anytime soon..the forecast says 80s till it ends on Sunday. I have seen it in the 80s and 90s here before, but not this long! We Alaskans definitely aren't acclimated to this haha. At least it's not humid. Time to find a glacier :P

Hmm guess I didn't get that job..they're gonna miss out on my awesomeness. ;) Guess I should keep looking..

9. A favorite non-major holiday )

Would you rather have a house with no roof or have a house with no walls? Either way, I would get them built pretty quickly :P

The university bookstore called me asking if I was still interested in a job there! I said yes so now I have an interview on Friday! They said it'll be temporary but if they like me I could become permanent. Whoa..excited and nervous! Haha. About time someone called me back ;)

There was an earthquake here around 11 AM today..I didn't feel anything but other people did. Aw I hate missing out haha :P

Would you rather shave your mom's bikini line or your dad's butt? O__________O

Today's trivia: Yahoo! got its name from the Jonathan Swift book Gulliver's Travels, in which a "yahoo" is someone who is repulsively unattractive, rude and uncouth. It also stands for "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle"
glacier_kitty: (Default)
Today Nina and I dropped my applications off at Barnes and Noble and Gulliver's. Now I just have to wait haha. There's a new Japanese restaurant next to B&N and Nina wanted to see what it looked like..and ended up taking food home for dinner haha

The trees and hills are getting GREEN. That makes me super happy haha

Today's trivia: The average cat has a total of 24 whiskers

Today I went to a resume writing workshop with Nina. Wow..there's a lot of stuff you need to know! It's like you have to get it exactly right or the employer won't look at it haha. The teacher gave us homework for tonight so tomorrow we can start writing our resumes and so she can edit it if she needs to. I'm glad I'm not doing this on my own :P

Ryan and dad left this morning..they're gonna try to go to California to visit family I think then try to go to Hawaii. NOT FAIRRR haha. Darn work getting in the way :P

Yesterday me, Nina, Michelle and co. had a meeting..we talked about what to do after my AmeriCorps term is up and while I'm still there look for other jobs and stuff. They had an idea to give me monthly assignments for job stuff haha. They also talked about school..they said they'd support me all the way through and if I'd have an essay Nina or someone would help me. Wow..I can't say no to that haha

One of the things they wanted to me to do if I get another year with AmeriCorps is take an Excel class cause we use it at work and I'd be able to do more advanced things with it (and I could use it at another job). It started today..I skipped the beginning class since I've already worked with Excel. The teacher just went over what they did in the beginning class. I could do most of the things so hopefully I won't be too lost (I think the class is 6 weeks). Since it's for work it counts as hours..sweeet

Day 12 – A photograph of the town you live in. )

Would you rather lick 1,000 stamps or read out loud from the phone book all the last names that start with a? Lick 1,000 stamps
glacier_kitty: (Default)
Me, Nina, Michelle, Becky, Hannah and mom had a meeting about my future today. Originally my contract with AmeriCorps was supposed to end next year in April..but today Nina said they had extended it to three years a couple months ago. I was like *GASP* haha. We talked about if I could do another year..to justify it I would have to have more responsibilities..like being the supervisor over the book cleaners (awesome :D) and doing the cash register (eek!). Becky doesn't know if she'll be able to get the money though (she said she's gonna beg haha) and Michelle's gonna see her boss about it. Then I'd go for another year till April 2012. If this doesn't work out I'd have to find another job at Barnes and Noble or Gulliver's or go to school (I could still volunteer there though). We'll see what happens..

I can't believe it's almost October and it hasn't even snowed yet. It was in the middle 50s today..woww

Day 30- Who are you? Ummm..Heather? Haha..I am me..no one else. Yep. Aww..that's the last day of the meme! Maybe I'll find another good one haha

Movies watched this week: Iron Man, The Thin Red Line

On Thursday I had another meeting with Nina and Mary..I got to read Becky's letter. She nominated me for this program that would help fund my time at the bookstore (DVR would have to help). This would be a one year commitment. Mom said she was unsure cause she didn't know if she could keep her staff position (it's flexible and that's why she can come pick me up). Yesterday mom told me there's a good chance that she'll be able to keep it and we need to do the application that's required! It would be processed in..April maybe. So it would be one year starting in April if they accept me!! We're also filling out an application for an apartment if I need one

Bottom fishing: Catching some of the planet's ugliest fish, including pollock, cod, and halibut, for money. I'm at work writing this on my lunch break haha. First..LJ changed the user's profiles! It was mostly fine the way it was before and most everyone DESPISES it. It has a separate page for communities and regular friend entries. Please give us back the regular paaaage..

Apparently I did well on my first skiing lesson haha..I fell twice and was not exactly balanced but I was doing it. It felt like my toes were freezing to death though. :P After work me, mom, and a lady she knows from the lady's husband at work are gonna go ski again

Nina came by earlier with one of her clients, who is autistic (she needed books for school). The three of us are gonna eat lunch together on the 21st I think..and one day Nina's gonna take me to Barnes and Noble to talk to someone about getting a job there

Yesterday Nina and I went to the library and had a meeting with someone. She told us about jobs and took us on a tour of the library. Their library is bigger than the Flower Mound Library haha. You have to pass two tests before you get an interview and they're gonna try to find something I can study from. I also had a meeting with Nina, Mary and Becky and I'll talk about that when everything's finalized on Monday

I got a package from Dana..I got a New Jersey magnet (it's on the fridge now hehe), New Jersey playing cards, and a book called It Happened In New Jersey. I sent her Alaska stuff so it was her turn ;)

Yesterday Nina picked me up and we went to lunch at an Italian restaurant (some of the tablecloths were leopard pint haha). Then we went to the book place and talked to Becky (the boss person..whoever she is haha). The place is a used bookstore and people clean, shelve, unpack the books (and get a first look at the books :D). I told her I was interested and we figured out the days and hours and now we gotta talk to Mary to see if everything's ok with her..then me and others will sign a form and I'll get to work there :D I still may work at the bird place too. Of course I bought books while I was there haha. I got The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde (Ben Barnes is gonna be in the Dorian Gray movie), The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo, The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, the TV Guide Book of Lists, and a book to the TV show Rome. All these cost only $16.25! After mom got off work she met us at the bookstore. She got some books too and then we went to Lowe's to get a porch swing. We got one and when mom took the parts out of the box there weren't any directions to put it together. She went back to Lowe's but there weren't any left..ouch :P

Earlier mom and I went to Wells Fargo to open a bank account for me. When we left home it was pouring haha. When we got into town I looked back and saw this really dark cloud over the hills (Texas-ish eh?). So now I have a bank account here. I got a debit card and joined this program that gives you amazon giftcards, a trip to Hawaii, etc when you spend enough money (you get a point for every dollar you spend). Then I went to take that job test..I did reaaaally well on clerical haha. Mary (job person), Nina and the teacher intern talked to me some..Mary talked about this bird place I could work at (oooh Dana might be jealous ;)). Then Nina and I went in another room and talked about possible jobs for me. She's gonna call around..I assume she'll call me with something and tell when we can interview someone about the job? After that we went to Barnes and Noble..I went to the magazine section to see if I could find something on Ben Barnes/Narnia..I remembered I found the Prince Caspian birthday card at Wal-Mart in the pink-girly-ew section so I went there..and I found something! I'm smaaaart haha (though Miley Cyrus is in there *stabs the page*). I squeaked when I found it. :P I got the magazine, a Narnia book (they didn't have exactly what I was looking for *pouts*) and a quiz book

Yesterday at the job meeting the job coach person (Nina) and a intern teacher were there (she wanted to see what they did). We talked about different jobs and what I could do. Next Monday I'm going back to take a test/survey about my interests and what I'm good at. After the test I'm gonna talk to Nina..I'm gonna job shadow, possibly "work" there with the job place paying me..and then see if I really can get a job. I'd work part time for now. Haha after the meeting we talked about classical music (yeaaaah Edvard Grieg!). Haha music nerd :P

After the meeting mom and I went to a greenhouse..there was a cat there! Her fur was soooo soft! The guy at the register said she was found/showed up a few years ago with the top of her ears and tail frostbitten. After that we ate at a pizza place. When we were going to the job meeting we saw a moose..when we were going home (hours later) I said maybe the moose was still there and mom was like nah..but it WAS! Haha wow
