Since March is the book drive at work each Thursday one or two of us goes on the radio to talk about the bookstore or their programs. Today Cori (the bookstore manager..Hannah quit last year) and I went today. It was cool hearing the DJ talk in person haha. We talked about how awesome our bookstore is haha and I talked about how I'm with AmeriCorps. Everyone at work forgot to listen when it came on (thanks :P) but I hope *someone* in Fairbanks heard it haha. I've got to say though that I LOVE Cori as the manager..Hannah was really hard to work with and Cori is really nice and easygoing and doesn't act all annoyed when you ask her something (Hannah rolled her eyes at me once!). I'm very comfortable with Cori..she's done so much good stuff for the store (she's very organized too). Yay!

Day 62 - Last place you traveled to )

Would you rather be trapped in an elevator packed with wet dogs or three fat men with bad breath? The dogs

Today's trivia: The word "deadline" originated in Civil War prisons, where lines were drawn that prisoners passed only at the risk of being shot

Yesterday the Literacy Council hosted the annual Biz Bee (a spelling bee). It was at the Westmark hotel literally just across the street from the apartment building haha (I can see it from my bedroom window). Score haha. It's our biggest fundraiser (we made over $22,000!!). 16 groups competed this year. I wrote down all the words and guessed at the spellings (my brain was DEAD by the end of the bee haha). The Literacy Council got out at the word "brachiate." I actually spelled it right! I'm thinking I should be a speller next year..my other coworkers thought so too. One of the words was "glaciarium" which is a fake ice floor of a skating rink. I was like ":D" haha. The winners were elementary school teachers from Denali Elementary! One of the people on the team was Hannah's mom..she told me her mom does the New York Times crossword in ink in 30 minutes! Wowww..so obviously she's very smart and showed it haha. I have pics which I shall post tomorrow

Day 21- Cool Kid Face )

Me, Nina, Michelle, Becky, Hannah and mom had a meeting about my future today. Originally my contract with AmeriCorps was supposed to end next year in April..but today Nina said they had extended it to three years a couple months ago. I was like *GASP* haha. We talked about if I could do another year..to justify it I would have to have more responsibilities..like being the supervisor over the book cleaners (awesome :D) and doing the cash register (eek!). Becky doesn't know if she'll be able to get the money though (she said she's gonna beg haha) and Michelle's gonna see her boss about it. Then I'd go for another year till April 2012. If this doesn't work out I'd have to find another job at Barnes and Noble or Gulliver's or go to school (I could still volunteer there though). We'll see what happens..

I can't believe it's almost October and it hasn't even snowed yet. It was in the middle 50s today..woww

Day 30- Who are you? Ummm..Heather? Haha..I am me..no one else. Yep. Aww..that's the last day of the meme! Maybe I'll find another good one haha

Today the Literacy Council hosted the annual Biz Bee (a spelling bee) at a hotel downtown. It's a fundraiser and other places like the library, the hospital, etc participate. My job was to take pictures. There were a lot of crazy words..I was surprised people got the ones they did..I never even would have spelled it like that. We got out during the second half..oh well. :P The last two teams battled it out for awhile..the winner was this computer group. After it was over I got up and suddenly this creepy guy came up to me and I could see he was definitely drunk. I moved back and he kept moving towards me like he was gonna grab on to me or something. I was like "oook I'm leaving now" (I've become extra cautious since that creepy guy in the bookstore harassed me) and got away quickly and told Hannah. The guy came over to us and Hannah started walking him out and then he tried to come to me again! Hannah got in front of me to block him and escorted him out (he was like stumbling he was so drunk). *phew* Thank you Hannah haha. Eww creepy. We managed to raise $20,000 something!! Woo! I shall post my pics tomorrow

Would you rather swim across a river that is filled with crocodiles or spend the night on an island where man eating tigers live? The island..I could find shelter somewhere

Today's trivia: Seventy percent of San Francisco Bay is less than 12 feet deep

We had to let the pigeon go..none of the places Hannah called would take it cause it was "just a pigeon." It looked more alert than yesterday but I don't think it could fly. Poor thing..

Mom and I found a road by the airport that goes to the Tanana River. Cool! There were other trails that might have led to the Chena-Tanana confluence but it was cold and stuff so we didn't go this time

I love how out of all the roads in Fairbanks they choose the one right outside where I work to totally tear up so they can fix it. :P It makes the building shake haha

Today's trivia: July 16, 2009 the Sears Tower in Chicago was renamed Willis Tower

Today at work someone opened the back door and this pigeon came stumbling in..he said it was injured. It went in between some boxes and just stood there. We saw its wing was injured and bleeding..we were thinking it was from the ravens that like to harass the pigeons that hang out by the building (we keep finding feathers at the door!). We got a box and put it a barrier so it world stay there (though I don't think it WANTED to leave) and gave it some food and water. Hannah called the bird place and other places but no one answered and she had to leave messages. I hope it gets some help..I hate seeing animals injured. *sniff* Becky named it Percy :P

BLIND GUARDIAN: Eight New Songs Completed - Mar. 4, 2009

German power metallers BLIND GUARDIAN have finished writing eight new songs for the band's forthcoming album. Vocalist Hansi Kürsch states: "What can I say about these songs? They rule, of course. You want a more precise description? Impossible. All I can say is that each and every song is 100% BLIND GUARDIAN, which, naturally, means there is a wild bunch of different things going on from time to time (always?). According to atmospheres: we have everything from the more 'Nightfall'-ish 'Curse My Name', to the 'Script'-ish 'Wheel Of Time'. In comparison to 'A Twist In The Myth', the lyrical direction will be more on the fantasy side as you most probably can figure out by these titles. The song 'Sacred' will give you an idea about the quality and the direction of the songs. We have mixed modern elements with traditional ones throughout the whole songs. We may need two or three more tracks before we can call it a complete album, but being that far in the songwriting process we nevertheless have made first plans for a production start in September or October 2009

Wow! There hasn't been a new Blind Guardian album since 2006! And they made a song about the Wheel of Time series?? I used to LOVE those books!

There's a new bookstore manager at work..the other one quit cause she found a better job (psh!). The new one (Hannah) is waaay better anyway..she's awesome haha. I found a glacier book and bought it for my Glacier Collection of Epicness ;)
