I hate TMJ

Today I went to physical therapy for my TMJ..I had to stop wearing the splint thing after a couple days cause it just wasn't agreeing with me (I didn't like it either haha). The orthodontist said I could stop wearing it if I went to a physical therapist. I filled out paperwork saying how my pain was and stuff, then saw the physical therapist (Aisha). She also asked about my pain and felt in my mouth and face..she said my muscles were REALLY tight. She gave me some neck exercises to do (and found out my neck and back muscles are tight..jeez haha). She also said I need better posture..no leaning my head on my hand (NOOOO..I do that ALL the time D:), sit up straight, etc. She showed me the mouth "resting position" so I don't grind my teeth. I think this is gonna be hard haha

Day 76 - Something that annoys you )

Would you rather walk the stairs to the top of the Sears Tower while carrying a 40 pound backpack or with a large pebble in each shoe? Possibly the pebble

Cloudy, snowing, about 5 degrees

I think the TMJ device is working already..I'm not waking up with an aching face and feeling sandy eyed and just blergh. I'm feeling less tired too. Wow..that's amazing haha

Day 39 - Your favorite picture )

I got my TMJ bite block thing today. It's weird and thick haha. They did a lot of adjustments when I came it so it would fit right and be comfortable. It was definitely challenging talking at first but it's gotten a lot better even though I haven't even worn it that long haha. They said I'll be wearing it 6-8 months (it'll get thinner as my jaw moves which will be awesome :P) and can only take it out to eat and brush. It's gonna make randomly snacking hard and annoying..ah well. There's certain foods they advised you not to eat cause it's bad for your jaw and popcorn was one of them. Yeah..THAT'S not happening haha. I love popcorn too much. :P I have an appointment next week so they can adjust it again if necessary. Hopefully it'll fix my TMJ!

Day 37 - The last restaurant you ate at )

Would you rather always spit when you talk or always be spit on when spoken to? Ew neither

The weatherman for Channel 11 in Fairbanks, Mike Shultz, came into the bookstore today haha. I've totally been wanting to randomly see him in person ever since mom saw him at Quizno's. :P He was interviewing the executive director (also Mike haha) about the upcoming spelling bee. So cool..my town is awesome :P

I had to get impressions for that TMJ device today. Ew..I hate them even with numbing spray haha

Day 2 - A photo that makes you happy )

Would you rather have to spend an entire pro basketball game with your face sticking right above the rim or an entire hockey game with your face sticking out into the middle of the goal net? The basketball game..I could wear a mask ;)

This morning I saw the orthodontist for my TMJ..they took x-rays and measurements and stuff. They had mouth numbing stuff so I wouldn't gag when they put stuff in my mouth..LOVE it haha. I wish the orthodontist in Texas had that. The orthodontist came in and we looked at my x-rays and pictures. He definitely saw the right side was different from the left. He felt the muscles on my mouth and said the right side ones were tight and tender to touch. I really like this orthodontist..he's so nice and helpful. Everyone there is actually. When I told the orthodontist in Texas they were like "that's normal." FAIL haha. To try and fix the problem he suggested a retainer type thing that he tweaks until I don't have pain and stuff anymore. He also suggested physical therapy but I'm too lazy for that. :P This device is expensive (they don't take Medicaid..I'd have to pay $300 something a month for a year) and I'd talk funny..but it's only for a couple months I think. I'd have to wear it all the time except for eating and brushing. I'm nervous though..this is the biggest financial thing I've ever had to pay. I hope it's the right decision. I guess it will be if it fixes the problem haha (I feel adultish now :P). I have another appointment next week for impressions or something

Day 195- A picture of someone you wish you could swap lives with for the day )

Would you rather as a man, live with a permanent 8 inch erection or a two inch penis? lmao..THAT caught me off guard. :P I am not a man haha

Tomorrow I leave for Valdez! The weather for Thursday says sunny and highs in the 50s or 60s. :D If I don't have internet I'll be back on Saturday

When I went to the dentist yesterday they had a poster for TMJ on the wall and I was like "hey I have that." My regular doctor didn't seem to care much when I told him but the dentist people definitely did. They gave me a card for a TMJ specialist in Fairbanks! I'll have to call them when I get back from Valdez

I think I may have TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder)

Symptoms associated with TMJ disorders may be:

* Biting or chewing difficulty or discomfort
* Clicking, popping, or grating sound when opening or closing the mouth
* Dull, aching pain in the face

* Earache
* Headache (I do get them but I think they may be related to other things)
* Jaw pain or tenderness of the jaw
* Reduced ability to open or close the mouth

I first noticed it when I was eating a muffin before school a few years ago and my jaw kept popping. I asked the orthodontist about it but they said it was normal. Yeah..I don't think this is normal..

Would you rather stand still at the end of a tennis court while the world's best tennis player rips 100 balls in a row at you or stand still on home plate and let a major league pitcher throw 20 baseballs at you? The tennis one sounds less painful haha

Today's trivia: Technically, knife throwing falls under the heading of "impalement arts"
