Wow..today is the last day of 2013 already. It was pretty good, and definitely the fastest year so far. I wonder if it's possible for 2014 to go by even faster haha. I hope it's filled with awesome things too! I'm gonna post the books I read this year today, since I'm gonna watch the Goldstream fireworks tonight and will have pics to post tomorrow

books read in 2013 )

In total I read 31 books this year! Last year I read 27, so my goal was a success! Next year I'll try to read a little more than this year, even if it is only 35 or something. I don't wanna push myself too hard..then reading wouldn't be as fun haha (and I'd probably get a headache :P). Yayy :D

Day 28 → something which caught your interest this year )
glacier_kitty: (Default)
A Death in the Small Hours by Charles Finch (Oct 23-Nov 5)
The Climb Up to Hell by Jack Olsen (Nov 6-17)
The Storms of Denali by Nicholas O'Connell (Nov 18-28)

I can't believe it's the last month in 2013 already..this year went by super fast!! It was pretty great though :D

Day 28: Light )
glacier_kitty: (winter lake)
The Flame Of Adventure by Simon Yates (Sept 10-Oct 14)
A Burial at Sea by Charles Finch (Oct 2-22)

Friday five:
1. Which super power would you have, if you could only have one: flight or invisibility? Flight
2. Who is your favorite, fictional super-being? Spider-Man, Thor, etc
3. If you could have any, one super-power, would you use it to change the world? Sometimes maybe
4. Can you see yourself becoming either a "hero" or a "villain"? I'd rather be a hero..
5. For your secret identity, what would be your occupation of choice and why? Maybe working at a bookstore

29. Where have you traveled?

Oh jeez..there's no way I can list that all here haha..here are some places though: England, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Wisconsin, California, Hawaii, etc

High Adventure: The True Story of the First Ascent of Everest by Edmund Hillary (Aug 28-Sept 9)
The Dark Monk by Oliver Potzsch (Sept 11-28)

Today is the last day of vacation..tomorrow we head home. This vacation was great, but I'm definitely ready to go home haha (though the government shutdown is scary D:). I can't wait to see Abby and work at the bookstore again and stuff. The journey back sounds exhausting though..the flight to Chicago leaves at 7:45 AM (ughh). We go from London to Chicago, Chicago to Seattle, Seattle to Fairbanks..I'm gonna be so tired when I get home haha. It'll feel like going back in time too :P

No Shortcuts to the Top: Climbing the World's 14 Highest Peaks by Ed Viesturs (Jul 26-Aug 14)
A Feast for Crows by George R.R. Martin (May 18-Aug 17)
Into Hot Air: Mounting Mount Everest by Chris Elliott (Aug 15-27)

I wish I would stop having dreams of Pumpkin visiting us when we thought she was dead (at least 3 days in a row now I've had it). It's been a year, she IS dead (either that or captured). Maybe I still miss her..

19. A .gif of someone dancing )
glacier_kitty: (Default)
Everest: The West Ridge by Thomas Hornbein (Jul 1-8)
The Wall by Jeff Long (Jul 9-21)
Mrs. Chippy's Last Expedition: The Remarkable Journal of Shackleton's Polar-Bound Cat by Caroline Alexander (Jul 22-25)

I LOVED Mrs. Chippy's Last Expedition, but the end had me hugging Abby and sobbing haha. After Shackleton's boat got crushed by the ice, they had to shoot all the animals before walking to the mainland. The book was written in Chippy's view, so that made it even worse. The last entry was like "they're looking sad and petting me so long!" *tear* I wish I could find more books written in a cat's point of view..

I don't like that it's August already..it seems time goes by faster and faster every year. D: Summer always goes by too fast..

At Fairbanks the low temperature of 70 degrees on the 25th may be the highest reliable calendar day low temperature ever recorded in Alaska. The average temperature at the Fairbanks Airport for the week of June 23 to 29th of 74.8f is the warmest week ever at Fairbanks and may be the warmest week of record at any location in Alaska." Dude!
