Yesterday we went to watch the fireworks at the university. For once it wasn't super cold (it was in the teens or 20s!) so we had to take advantage of that haha. We parked at the place where you can get water..which turned out great cause there was a bonfire! That was SO nice haha. We Alaskans do it right. ;) The fireworks were alright..the university's have never been that great to me. Then we went home and had a little time before the fireworks show in Goldstream by Ivory Jack's. There was a bonfire there too but it looked crowded and the place we were at was perfect anyway. OMG..their fireworks show was AWESOME!!! 29765869 times better than the university ever does. It's probably the best fireworks show I've ever seen. It was cool listening to it echo across the hills haha. Too bad the battery in my camera died..I shouldn't have wasted my pics on the university's fireworks. I'll have to see if anyone posted a video. I'll post my pics tomorrow or later in the week (apparently you can't charge the battery unless you choose that option on the set up menu. Wth..I've never had to do that with my other cameras!). At home we watched the ball drop in Times Square..yay! I hope 2013 is good!

I'm gonna post all the books I read in 2012! I'm gonna keep posting them here cause it's fun and useful and is a good motivator to read haha. I'm gonna put what I rated them on Goodreads here too

books! )

Touch the Top of the World: A Blind Man's Journey to Climb Farther than the Eye Can See by Erik Weihenmayer (Oct 29-Nov 18)

I can't believe it's December already..this year went so fast

I feel better and now I'm STARVING haha. Mom's making "fancy eggs" which will be delicious :P

99. Solitude )

Annapurna by Maurice Herzog (Sept 19-Oct 2)
Seven Summits by Dick Bass, Frank Wells and Rick Ridgeway (Oct 3-28)
Ice Land by Betsy Tobin (ongoing, but finished Oct 31)

Today was the glaciers final. It was pretty easy except for being thrown off by these questions using meters. I probably got a couple wrong..hopefully the extra credit will make up for it. I really wanted to get a 100! Ah well, high 90s are good too. Next is volcanoes!

Tomorrow I'm going to Talkeetna! Mom's friend Laurie is moving down there and mom's helping her..she invited me to go and of course I said yes. :P We're hopefully gonna go flightseeing too if the weather's nice. Today's clear here and all along the Alaska Range. Some weather sites say partly sunny for Saturday. I'll just drag the sun with me like I usually do ;)

71. Obsession )

The Will to Climb: Obsession and Commitment and the Quest to Climb Annapurna--the World's Deadliest Peak by Ed Viesturs (Aug 21-Sept 4)
The Kid Who Climbed Everest: The Incredible Story of a 23-Year-Old's Summit of Mt. Everest by Bear Grylls (Sept 5-18)

Someone stole my bike! It was there Friday and when I came back yesterday it was gone and the lock was on the ground..someone had cut it. I told Marjorie and she said there's a camera outside that may show who it is..they just need a tech to come and read the camera. I also filed a police report. Booo. :( I hope it gets found..

40. Rated )

Would you rather eat a newly born baby rodent or a small sack of crawling caterpillars? The caterpillars

Desire & Ice: A Search for Perspective Atop Denali by David Brill (June 21-July 4)
Between a Rock and a Hard Place by Aron Ralston (July 5-29)

Desire and Ice was rather funny..the guy was having a conversation with an obsessive mountaineer..he was like "after Denali, we're off to Nepal for some really big mountains!" and the author was like "after Denali, I'm off to my couch." Hilarious haha :P

I totally bought 127 Hours after reading Aron's book. He cut his arm off then still had to walk 7 miles to get help. That is one tough guy

How is it August Already? *hides from winter* D:

Day 82: A picture of your favorite kind of ice cream )

Would you rather spend the night enclosed in a coffin in your bedroom or be locked inside a funeral home but free to wander? The funeral home

Conquistadors Of The Useless by Lionel Terray (April 30-May 23)

I wanted to read a short one so I'd have more than one in May but both the ones I tried I couldn't get into. Oh well :P

Wow..today's been a year since I started on the cash register at work. It doesn't seem like a year already haha. It's been a huge milestone for me..especially since I was so scared before (why?? That seems so silly now haha). I feel more mature and responsible. :D Plus it's really fun and interesting to see what people buy and have the regulars remember me hehe

Friday five:
1. What is your favourite flower? Fireweed, chokecherries, etc
2. Do you buy or send other people flowers for special occasions? No
3. Have you ever picked flowers from your own garden (or wild flowers, if you don't have a garden) to give to someone else? Sure
4. If flowers could talk (think Alice In Wonderland), which flower would you most like to converse with? Umm..I don't know haha

High Exposure: An Enduring Passion for Everest and Unforgiving Places by David Breashears (Apr 2-29)
Heresy by SJ Parris (2011-Apr 16)
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins (Apr 17-18)
Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins (Apr 22-23)

I read a lot this month haha. I HATED the last two Hunger Games books though..they were so depressing and I was glad there were only three

Today I went with Nina to meet the disability person at the university. She provides you with services..like a note taker and advises the teachers of what you need and stuff. She basically said I shouldn't become a glaciologist cause it would be "too hard" cause of the math and recommended a science writer or something. Gee thanks..that really upset me. I want to be a glaciologist so bad..blah

It's been SNOWING and in the 30s today. Nice..guess May means nothing in Alaska :P

Day 95 - Something yellow )

Would you rather be on vacation with your 60 year old parents and have your mom insist on wearing a thong bikini or have your dad insist on wearing a tiny, Euro style bikini bathing suit? LOL..maybe dad wearing it haha

glacier_kitty: (Default)
The Sound of Gravity by Joe Simpson (Feb 24-March 12)
The Mountain of My Fear/Deborah: A Wilderness Narrative: Two Mountaineering Classics in One Volume by David Roberts (March 13-March 26)
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (March 27-March 31)

Deborah was cool cause I knew a lot of the landmarks he was talking about..like the glaciers and mountains and stuff. Plus Deborah is one of my favorite mountains..especially since I can see it from Fairbanks

Yesterday mom and I saw The Hunger Games. We were gonna do a geocache (*huge nerd*) but when we walked to the general area there was too much snow. Summer is probably a better time haha. The movie was pretty good, especially the second half. Katniss is awesome haha

Day 72 - A stuffed animal )
glacier_kitty: (Default)
The Boys of Everest: Chris Bonington and the Tragedy of Climbing's Greatest Generation (Jan 31-Feb 23)

The Accidental Adventurer: Memoir of the First Woman to Climb Mt. McKinley by Barbara Washburn: Jan 23-30
Yayy :D

This January was the 5th coldest on record. Jeeeez..luckily a chinook is coming tomorrow :P

Day 15 - Your childhood home )

Would you rather give birth to a child knowing there is a 25% chance you'll die during childbirth or never have children of your own at all? Never have children

Today's trivia: When Thomas Edison died, Henry Ford captured his last breath in a bottle
