How can I resist taking a picture with my favorite book?? LOL

After only eight months as Executive Director at the Literacy Council, Heidi had to step down (she's been having trouble finding daycare for her son). She definitely enjoyed it though. Someone already working at LCA might take the position, which is cool, because she's very nice lol

Good thing I have insurance, because after those ER visits and hospital stays, I would have ended up owing THOUSANDS of dollars. O___o It's crazy it costs so much!

Today's trivia: At $378.5 million, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is the most expensive film ever made

At work Heidi wanted us to do a strengths assessment test, and my top five strengths were Context, Empathy, Adaptability, Input and Positivity. Here's what Context says (I'll bold what I especially agree with):

People who are especially talented in the Context theme enjoy thinking about the past. They understand the present by researching its history. Chances are good that you periodically investigate some of the events, policies, or people whose actions contributed to worldwide wars. You might delve into materials that reveal how these global conflicts were brought to an end. It’s very likely that you really like to read about past events and the key people involved. By accumulating lots of knowledge regarding days gone by, you regularly anticipate the opportunities and pitfalls you are apt to face in the coming months, years, or decades. Because of your strengths, you create a vision of the future by unraveling what happened in the past. You strive to understand the what, when, who, where, how, and why of events. You are determined to create a framework of facts so you can put things in perspective. Instinctively, you welcome opportunities to hear historians share their thoughts, stories, or theories about prominent people. Your interest probably extends to important events. Driven by your talents, you routinely gather historical facts or artifacts — that is, pictures, tools, books, artwork, correspondence, or documents. You often wait to determine whether this information is useful. Your interest in history probably has no purpose other than to answer your own questions. You are simply intrigued by the past and its people. The future starts to take shape in your mind as soon as you begin to rummage through your collection of historic truths and objects

Wow! I love how accurate this is, especially the collecting of historical artifacts and stuff (Cherry has taken a lot of my money LOL). Heidi said she also scored the most in Context, and had never met anyone else who had. Cool!

the other four..yay quizzes :P )

5. How far should a government go to prevent its citizens from causing harm to themselves? Umm..we should have things like building codes and stuff, at least

6. If time travel is possible, would we have met time travelers already? Who knows lol, maybe they haven't revealed themselves yet :P

7. What is something popular now that annoys you? For some reason, there are authors that don't put what people are saying in quotation marks, which drives me CRAZY. I read a book like that once and it annoyed me so much I can't read any more like that..too bad, there are books like The Road I've wanted to read but seeing no quotation marks makes me groan. I don't know what they're trying to accomplish with that, but it's not "cool" lol

8. Do you prefer fiction or non-fiction books? Why? I like both! Just depends on what I want to read at the time lol

Today's trivia: The Pokémon Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan are based on Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan

Today I saw something in person I'd only ever seen on TV..as I walked outside to walk to work, I heard a bunch of sirens, and saw a car flanked by a police car, with at least three other cars following them. I saw another bystander looking very curiously down the street, and when I turned the corner, I saw the police had blocked the car in. One officer had a (very excited) K9, and the officers were yelling "HANDS!! LET ME SEE YOUR HANDS!!" I was pretty shocked to actually see something like this in person! Then it looked like one officer had his gun out, and I backed up and was like "yeahhh, I'll walk down the other street instead" haha. If I had left my house a minute or so earlier, I might have been in the middle of all that! (I could have watched from my apartment, had I been home!) I kept walking, and then I saw two MORE police cars show up! Wow, what did this person do?? Haha. When I passed that spot on the way home, I saw car parts in the snow. I'm really curious about why they were chasing that car, but I don't see anything about it online yet. It was an exciting morning :P

Heidi (the new Executive Director) is different than Mike, in that she wants to do stuff in the bookstore as well (Mike didn't do much except for check people out occasionally, and if the store was doing well, he let everyone else run it). She had the idea last month to do a blind date with a book, which was pretty fun! She is more quiet and reserved though, and I wonder if she thinks I'm dumb, because I stumble over my words a lot. D: It's cool she has fun ideas for the bookstore though! (I miss Elias though, I hope he visits again one day!)

2. What was one of the most interesting concerts you've been to? What was interesting about it? )

Today's trivia: Syndrome K was a fake disease made up by Italian doctors to save Jews who had come to the hospital for protection from the Nazis. The Jews would be admitted to the hospital and quarantined. When the Nazis came to raid the hospital, they were told about the highly infectious disease, and the patients were told to cough violently if a Nazi soldier came close. The Nazis "fled like rabbits" and dared not enter the building again. The cover story saved the lives of somewhere between 25-100 Jews and political refugees (wow!)

1. What is the favorite Halloween (fancy dress) costume you have ever seen? Legolas, etc
2. Would you rather walk through a graveyard at midnight or spend a night in a spooky abandoned old house? Walk through a graveyard at midnight
3. What Halloween candy (or candy in general) would you keep and what would you trade? I'd keep things like Smarties and Kit Kats, and trade anything with peanut butter and caramel lol
4. If you were stuck in a room with one horror movie villain, who would it be? No thanks D:
5. Have you ever been on a Haunted Hayride? Possibly, I can't remember for sure though

After 14 years as Executive Director of the Literacy Council, Mike is retiring. He's burned out and wants to just relax for awhile. Yesterday most everyone met the lady (Heidi) who is taking over for him..she seemed nice and capable. It'll be weird not having Mike around (lots of history he's seen!), but I'm sure he'll visit with Elias..he practically grew up at LCA and loves it there. Heidi has quite a lot to learn haha, but hopefully she'll enjoy being there (I'm also older than her O_o)

next 6th grade journal entries, including a story about trees :P )

29. What was the last thing you used your phone for, besides calling/texting? Looking at Facebook, I think
