Today was an absolutely GORGEOUS day..we knew it was a good sign when it got sunny when we went to bed yesterday. We called the flightseeing people early since we knew it would fill up quickly, and got a spot soon after that. I was so excited to see glaciers I'd never seen before! We flew over Taku, Hole-in-the-Wall, Norris and East and West Twin Glaciers (and there was one in the distance I didn't know the name of). It was SOOO incredibly awesome..glaciers are one of the coolest things ever!! I kept saying "wow wow WOW" in my head haha. I couldn't believe how gorgeous it was. The pilot said the Taku Glacier was recently advancing, but it stopped for the moment..you could see the moraines it had been pushing forward..squee! It's also the deepest and thickest alpine temperate glacier known in the world (4,845 feet thick)!! I was ridiculously sad when we left the glaciers behind LOL. Such incredible scenery. After that we drove to Christine's house..she had a coupon for a free kayak rental, so we got one (she has her own) and went kayaking at Mendenhall Lake! I was hot on shore and didn't bring my jacket, figuring I'd be fine, even though I KNOW it's colder by glaciers lol..needless to say, my hands were freezing. :P Oh welll, it was still awesome. There were some icebergs, and some arctic terns nesting on the shore. I know we went at least a mile in, since we went past Nugget Falls, which is a mile from the visitor center. The people on the shore looked tiny compared to the falls haha. It would have been cool to get closer, but we had to turn in the kayak at 6, so we turned back so we didn't go over that time. After that we went back to the B&B..such a fun day!!

Tomorrow we're leaving and flying to Anchorage, where we'll stay till Sunday. I hope I see more glaciers LOL (I guess I never get tired of them :P)

lots of glacier pics under here :P )

On Sunday we drove to the start of the trail to the cabin..we were worried there wouldn't be enough snow on the trail since most of the way there was barely any snow at all. There were spots with no snow, but we managed. That hike was HARD..everyone kept postholing and falling over. Ingrid carried a heavy bundle of firewood a lot of the way since Bonnie's sled was so heavy..I was impressed, that thing was heavy and Ingrid's almost 70! It took us three hours to get to the cabin..it was so nice getting in there and starting a fire and having dinner lol. That cabin has AMAZING views of the Alaska Range and is right near a lake..it was the perfect spot for a cabin! It was so hard sleeping..I was on the top bunk and it was SUPER hot and there was some snoring..

..buut we all made it to Monday morning, though none of us felt super great lol..mom said she felt like she got run over by a truck (pulling that sled looked hard!!). We lazed around by the fire and had breakfast and then went for a hike..the mountains were SO beautiful..it's scenes like that which make me love Alaska. I'm surprised we didn't see any moose since there were lots of droppings around. Eventually I reached my limit so mom and I turned back..I'm always nervous hiking or geocaching with Bonnie since she never seems to want to stop lol. I think she and Ingrid hiked 6 miles, they were gone a long time! They saw caribou though, nice! I need to get in better shape lol..mom said I did well anyway though. We got a text from Bonnie's friend Christine that she was gonna join us for the night..we played Apples to Apples while we waited for her..that game is so fun lol. She got there earlier than expected, probably because she wasn't pulling a sled lol. After she got there we had dinner..mmm pasta. After dinner everyone else played Yahtzee while I just lazed in bed lol (I hate Yahtzee, too many numbers and thinking lol). It was too hot on the top bunk again, so I moved down to mom's bunk (luckily there's room for two people!). We also opened the window for awhile, which helped. We didn't start the fire again, so I was too cold the rest of the night..no happy medium I guess. :P Christine also snored like crazy..eventually I did sleep though

Today we had breakfast and then packed up and left..I was dreading the hike back, but it was soooo much easier than when we hiked up..it was early enough (10:05) that the snow was thicker and there was pretty much no postholing (we saw our deep tracks from before though, poor us!! Haha). Those two miles took exactly an hour..we took a break and took pics by the Pipeline and then continued down, which took maybe 30 minutes. We were all glad it was so easy lol. We stopped in Delta Junction for food and then continued home..weirdly enough, we didn't stop for any geocaches (we did stop for one on the way up though). Taking a shower and a nap in my bed felt amazing lol. I'm glad I went, it was fun! It was nice to get home, but I usually still feel a pang of sadness returning to "real life" haha. I'll post pictures soon!

So..Thursday I got to the airport and waited for the flight. They kept delaying it and then it like..EXPLODED. It suddenly got oversold with a billion standbys and there was no way I would have gone on it. Later I learned they kept delaying it cause there was crazy wind in Newark..like 50 MPH winds! I kept getting moved from terminal to terminal. I finally got out on one leaving at 8 something (I got there at 11 or 12 something..9 hours or something waiting?? Haha wowww). I finally got to New Jersey at 12 something..near 1 AM maybe. Dana was waiting and she drove me to her parents' house. Her parents have two cats..one's really fat but friendly haha. I actually stayed in Dana's old room

Friday we went to breakfast (the waiter thought we were sisters!), got gas (heeee they have attendants to pump the gas for them. SWEET haha) and then went up to New York City. It was COLD and windy (though the buildings in NYC blocked out a bunch of the wind..and the sky :P). It was a nice clear day! We took the subway into the city..NYC actually looks like cities in Europe. First we went to the Empire State Building and went up to the 86th floor. It was AWESOME! It was basically a totally clear day so we had a GREAT view!! There were pigeons up there and one decided to land on my head! NICE haha. One side wasn't THAT cold and windy but when we went to the other..ohhh soooo cold and windy. One of my relatives actually worked on the Empire State Building. Then we went back down and decided to walk to Times Square. We walked past their public library and decided to go inside. There were a bunch of scholarly people on their Macs. :P When we came out this random guy walked past me and said he loved me! Oooook then. We found Times Square and then walked to Central Park. The park dims the city noise quite a bit! I wanted to go cause I read in a book you could see glacial striations (movement of past glaciers on rocks) on the rocks in the park. It was totally by chance I read that too. We found the rocks and I was like EEEE haha. We sat a bit on the rocks and then went to eat at the Hard Rock Cafe. I wanted to meet Christine ([livejournal.com profile] harmony83)..it was her friend's birthday so she was going there as well. She said she went near the same time we did but we didn't see her. Aw. The food was sooo good! After getting shirts and stuff we took the subway back and then drove to Dana's friend Lisa's apartment. She has cats too hehe. We watched Prince Caspian and drove back to her parents' house

Saturday we went to breakfast (though it was like 12 PM haha). The table they sat us at just HAPPENED to have an "Alaska moose crossing" sign! I was like OMGGGG haha. Their menu was HUGE..and they had over 150 choices to choose from..jeez haha. Then we went to Dana's apartment. She also has two cats but they're MEAN haha. We walked around the lake-pond thing by her apartment and went to the beach (the "Jersey shore" haha) for a few minutes. When we got back we watched 300 (THIS. IS. SPARTAAAAAAAA.) and I met her fiance Phil. He's nice! After that we went back to her parents' and watched Kingdom of Heaven and went to bed

Today Dana's dad was gonna take us flying (he's a pilot and looooves to fly) but it was too windy (ARGH WIND ISSUES AGAIN JEEZ). So we just went to breakfast at a restaurant at the border of NJ and Pennsylvania. Dana's parents are so nice! After we ate we walked across the bridge to Pennsylvania. It was soooo cold and windy! Now I've been to TWO states I hadn't been to before! Then we went back to the house and I brought up the Fairbanks webcam and we watched videos by Margerie guy haha. They were SO amused..it was great. :P Dana and I also watched Fairbanks videos..I pointed out stuff to her. Then it was time to leave. *SNIFF* I was sad! I actually got on the flight I was supposed to get on. I got a middle seat but I could still see out the window. We took off and I saw the NYC skyline..I soooo wanted to take a picture but I would have had to lean over the guy next to me and I was right by the flight attendants (jeez they've gotten mean/strict lately). Then I got the idea the guy next to me could take the picture but when I got my camera out we had already turned *sobs* Aaand here I am. Pictures tomorrow!

YAY DANA! :D We may not get together in person again for awhile though *sniff* It would be quite a trip getting there from Alaska haha

It stomed yesterday..there was golfball sized hail and rotating clouds in Highland Village! (One of the towns next to mine) There might have been a tornado somewhere too. At least I'm seeing some storms before Alaska haha (it could storm again on Thursday)

Dana invited me over this summer..mom said we could see. We'd go to Pennsylvania, New York City and the Hard Rock Cafe there (wanna come Christine? Hehe). Hopefully it'll work haha (loooong flight...)

Today's stupidest quote: I believe the town where I used to come--from Houston, Texas, to enjoy myself, occasionally too much--will be that very same town, that it will be a better place to come to (President Bush, on the tarmac at the New Orleans airport after Hurricane Katrina)
