After a lot of hard work, we are finally done moving everything to the bookstore's new building. It was very disorienting and dizzying walking in yesterday and seeing this:

So empty!! Workers had to use some kind of tool to cut into the shelves, and the smell of the burning wood smelled SO good haha. We're so grateful we've had so many people help us move, it would have been super hard without them! Today we went to the landfill to get rid of stuff, and Vicki was SO happy haha, she took lots of pictures of trash, fridges, etc. It was fun throwing the stuff into the piles and breaking stuff haha

This is what it looked like after moving mostly everything:

Wowww. There's a lot of history and memories in that building..floods, big sales, Christmas parties, etc. Goodbye, faithful building! There is SO much stuff in the new building though, yikes! We had to push the opening day later because there's just too much to do. We started organizing today, which is one of Vicki's strong points..she can look at something and barely hesitate and have a plan ready. I'd just stare at the boxes or whatever for like 20 minutes haha. Everyone's glad we have everything moved over now, phew! I'll miss being able to walk to work, but there's a bus stop very close to the new building, which is nice lol. I was thinking about getting a bike too..guess I'll figure it out when I get back from Santa Fe!

Tomorrow mom and I are going to Santa Fe, yay! After that big move, I'm glad I have a few days to relax before working more at the new building (Vicki said I definitely earned this vacation haha). The birch pollen started a couple days ago (my nose has NOT been happy), so I'm even more glad to go somewhere else lol. Hopefully Drew Lynch will put on a good show! I checked the weather, and it's supposed to be sunny and in the 60s while there..nice!!

1. What are your sunglasses like? My regular glasses with tinted lenses lol
2. What is your wallet like? It's blue and zips up and has separate pockets for cards
3. What are your everyday shoes like? Blue tennis shoes, and blue snow boots in the winter
4. What is your umbrella like? I don't have one
5. What are your everyday drinking vessels like? Plastic water bottles, for one

Ugh, the birch pollen is not fun *sneezes*

When mom was still working, for a few years she worked in Northway (5-6 hours from Fairbanks) during the spring/summer, and I went with her one time (it was cool, except the Internet was slow LOL). After mom got off work, someone else would work at night updating the weather. One of those people was Aaron, who was..not very nice (I talked about him in this entry). Just the way he bragged about violence, how rough he treated his kids, hating cats, etc..I literally couldn't be civil to him anymore by the end of the week. I figured he definitely needed some growing up to do. WELL..the other day, mom showed me this article, "Man charged with killing roommate in Alaska in 2020 already facing trial in Oregon homicide." I read the name and was like "isn't that the guy from Northway?!?" The Oregon murder was absolutely planned out: "On Oct. 21, 2020, Hague flew to Seattle and took a train to Portland, where he assumed the name of Alcorn, according to court records. In March 2021, Hague convinced the real Alcorn, 28, to fly to Portland from Alaska, on the promise of a good job in the Portland area. Days later, Alcorn’s body was found in the woods off the Springwater Corridor in Gresham. He had died of blunt force trauma to this head, an autopsy found...'We believe that he was 100% murdered,' Sgt. Jeremy Rupe, an investigator for the Alaska State Troopers, testified at the unusual death presumption hearing late last year." WTF?? I knew he wasn't a great guy, but yikes, mom and I slept in the same building as him!! D: We were totally weirded out after reading that (can someone be 90% murdered..?? I know what he meant, but still LOL). I feel bad for his (probably ex) wife and kids..wow D:

The pollen has been so bad this year that mom and I now have sinus infections..ugh. I really hope next year isn't this bad!

My parents are going to have a garage sale before moving, so we've all been taking stuff from the crawlspace to sort through and price for the sale. I knew we had a lot of stuff, but I still wasn't prepared for how much we found. Dad used to buy multiples of everything, and at one point bought some Alaska Amber shirts..we found at LEAST fifty of them, in different colors too (I'm sure there are more in his room too). Vases, hoses, paintbrushes, Christmas lights, colorful glass pumpkins..you name it, we have multiples of it (I'm sure he spent a lot of money on all those things, a lot of it never used! D:). We're also finding things we didn't even know we had, like a pressure washer. Our sale is going to be VERY interesting haha

I can't believe how bad the pollen has been here..a couple days ago the sky looked hazy, but it was GREEN with pollen! I've never seen anything like that before. Mom and I have been miserable..next year mom wants to escape to Payson for the whole month of May, after their allergy season is over..sounds like a good idea to me :P

The bookstore is officially opening back up on June 1! I might have to get used to working every day again LOL

And check THIS out: an offprint copy of a biography of Cherry by George Seaver!! So rare I had no idea it even existed! I would LOVE to have it, but uhh..$2,800?? I actually emailed the seller asking if I could pay it in stages..they'll probably say no, but it was worth a try :P

1. When did you last feel sand between your toes? Hmm..not sure..it's been awhile
2. When did you last have a sandwich? Last week?
3. What kinds of sandals do you own? Strappy ones..not sure what they're really called haha
4. How trustworthy has the Sandman been these days? Somewhat at least lol
5. What do you know about San Diego? Richard Henry Dana sailed there on his way to Alta, California in 1834..Dana Point is named after him (I have his book, Two Years Before the Mast, but I haven't read it yet), Comic Con is held there, Dana lives there haha (no relation to Richard though :P), etc

No wonder mom and I have been miserable..on Monday, the birch pollen hit 7,045 grains per cubic meter of air, which absolutely smashed the previous world record, which was set in Denmark in 2014, at 4,698 grains. That is insane! I could have lived without a record like that LOL (as Cherry said, "The day lives in my memory as that which I found out that records are not worth making"). I'm glad every year isn't like that, eesh
