Donation Day!

glacier_kittyToday was the first (official) day the bookstore has accepted donations since we moved locations! We set up a table and canopy thing to receive donations, and stood in the cold windy weather for three hours, what fun :P (I'm still thawing out haha). We got a fair amount of donations..I was hoping there would be more, but we got in some great new fiction titles, DVDs, vintage books, etc. Amazingly, NONE of the customers got upset about us giving books back that we couldn't use, or waiting for us to sort their books (I found two I wanted..yep, new donations are dangerous LOL). I thought we were going to accept donations every Thursday, but Lucie and Shelby aren't sure yet..they want to do a poll on Facebook to see what would be the best donation day for people. They also told us me and Bill we did a great job today..praise doesn't come often from them, so that was nice lol. It'll be great shelving fresh new books!
I was helping mom with a crossword puzzle, and one of the clues was something like "canopy cover/support"..I looked at the letters already there and I was like "...tester?!? No way!!" A tester is another name for a four-poster bed! What are the chances of that?? It made me very happy lol
I hate when I hear a song I love but can't find it, so I found an app called Shazam, which will tell you what song is playing when you open it! I tried it at a restaurant yesterday, and it told me the song was "Helena" by My Chemical Romance. It also has a "lyrics" button and it will follow the lyrics (the words get bigger) as they're being sung. So cool! It's amazing what technology can do!
I had a regular doctor's appointment yesterday, and she said I lost 8 pounds since August?! I have no idea how that happened lol, but I did notice some of my shirts were looser. I haven't really been doing anything different..weird haha
4. What do you know about your father's parents? His dad fought in World War II (dad once showed me a picture of him standing next to a captured Japanese plane) and liked playing tennis. He died from some kind of blood disorder when I was very young, so I really don't know much about him. It's sad my only memory of him is seeing his body at his funeral. His mom was a special needs teacher and grew up on the East Coast, I think. She was Catholic and lived in Torrance, California. Dad and Ryan and I would fly to California for a short weekend with her when we were kids sometimes. I remember earthquake stories she used to tell, like how a door was moving back and forth. One of my favorite memories is watching Lord of the Rings with her, and when she saw Gollum, she said something like "oh, what a beauty you are, honey!" OMG awesome lol. She died in 2012 after a long illness
5. A time you narrowly escaped: One of the times I was in England, me and my family were crossing the street..I timed it and got across, but mom about had a heart attack because apparently a car came very close to hitting me. I think it still freaks her out if she thinks of it..oops :P
6. The worst date you've been on: I'm not sure if I'd consider it a date (mom was with me), but this guy Bjorn became obsessed with me and asked me to go to dinner with him, and seemed excited, but the whole time he seemed very depressed and hid his face behind his hands (he was autistic too). I actually saw him a few months ago after not seeing him for years..he said it looked like life was treating him well, but I couldn't have said the same about him..he still looked pretty depressed. :( on Facebook he also ranted about the evil "Alt-Left," how "kewl" it is having a Slovenian model as a First Lady, how he was a "male Feminazi" (*SHUDDERS*), etc. I'm glad I escaped when I did O_o
7. Do you have a favorite national or state park? Denali, Glacier Bay, Grand Canyon, Sequoia, etc
8. A time you did service: When I was a kid I picked up litter, I'm not sure what group it was with though
9. Your favorite place to visit in the fall: The fall colors in the mountains (especially Denali) is so cool! The brush gets a really nice red color. The East Coast is also pretty in the fall, I loved the colorful leaves when I was a kid
