I'm gonna tell when I first got Abby! It was in 2009 after coming back from visiting Texas. I really missed the cats in Texas (that are all here now haha) and felt lonely and depressed and thought a cat would help. Mom was reluctant but said I could if I vacuumed every day and to not get a longhaired cat. We went to the animal shelter and found the cats..there was a lady in one of the cages brushing a cat and she let us in so we could visit the cats (there were two in that cage). Mom took one and I the other. The cat was purring and rubbing on my hand and I felt immediate love. We switched cats (mine growled haha) and that one did the same thing but it just..wasn't the same. I had already bonded to the other cat..who of course was long haired haha. Mom let me get her anyway haha. It was too late to buy her then so we came back another day after we bought cat stuff. Her name was Bashful then and I walked to her cage and called out to her. She stretched and came over and meowed and stuck her paw through the cage. They took her to a room and we visited her for awhile. For some reason I was suddenly doubtful..what's if she never left us alone? But we could see she was exploring the room too. I went to see another cat but..no bond. So I went back and adopted Bashful. She was SO happy on the drive home..she purred all the way. We were NOT keeping Bashful as a name haha and eventually settled on Abby after Abby from ER. She's amazing and has definitely helped me <3

There's a summer class at the university called Field Methods in Glaciology that meets at Gulkana Glacier!! I'm hoping to take it..the instructor emailed the syllabus to me and it sounds awesomeee

Aww what a sweet story about Abby. Abby is definitely a better name than Bashful haha. I didn't realize that your mom's original plan was that you weren't allowed to adopt a long-haired cat haha...how funny how things work out! :) It's so great that you and Abby bonded with each other and that you even tried with other cats too. Aww yay for kitties!
