Dad's accident made the paper! Here's what it said:
Duane E. Kaase, 30, of Fairbanks was charged with third-degree assault and driving under the influence after he allegedly caused a three-car collision that injured one person on University Avenue, north of Geist Road, at about 12:49 p.m. Monday. The two other drivers involved in the collision told Alaska State Troopers that the accident was caused by a black SUV that had left the scene, leaving a trail of red transmission fluid.
One driver was injured and was taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.
Troopers found a parked vehicle with a license plate number matching the one recorded at the scene 30 minutes later near a basement apartment. Its airbag was deployed and it was leaking red transmission fluid.
Kaase was sleeping inside the apartment and reportedly smelled of alcohol and had injuries associated with being hit by an airbag, troopers said. Footprints matching his shoes led from the car to the apartment, they reported. Troopers said Kaase denied driving the vehicle.
Kaase also was charged with resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident and refusing to take a chemical alcohol test.
