I'll admit it..I watched Sarah Palin's Alaska yesterday. How can I not..it's Alaska haha. Sarah actually seems like a fun person to hang out with. On part of the episode she and her husband went hiking on Ruth Glacier! Then they climbed a steep rock face..I was jealous. I wanted to do that! (I'm good at climbing things too) I've been wanting to land on Ruth Glacier for a couple years now. And in previews for other episodes they go on more glaciers (and kayak under one!) so I'm just like "awesomeee" haha

FAIRBANKS — The weekend’s few inches of new snow in the Fairbanks area might have looked like a blizzard in comparison to the low and slow start for the season’s snow accumulation.

Snowfall totals around Fairbanks during the weekend ranged from 2.6 inches at Fairbanks International Airport to 5.5 inches in Two Rivers east of town.

Accumulation at the airport, the official measuring site of the National Weather Service in Fairbanks, was the lowest of anywhere around, meteorologist Julie Malingowski said.

“It seems like there was a big hole right in the middle of Fairbanks,” she said. “It snowed more everywhere else.”

The snow started falling Saturday morning and continued almost non-stop through Monday morning as the result of a cold front that moved into the Interior from western Alaska, meteorologist Jim Brader said.

The heaviest snow was north, east and south of Fairbanks. In Healy, about 200 miles south of Fairbanks on the Parks Highway, 8.5 inches of snow was reported, almost all of which fell Sunday. Just 10 miles south of Healy, 4.4 inches of snow was reported at Denali National Park and Preserve headquarters.

Closer to Fairbanks, 5.5 inches of snow was reported east of town at 14 Mile Chena Hot Springs Road in Two Rivers. The same measurement was taken at 42 Mile Steese Highway north of town. North Pole reported 3.8 inches of snow. Only 2.7 inches were reported at the University of Alaska Fairbanks West Ridge.

Department of Transportation spokeswoman Meadow Bailey in Fairbanks said crews were busy clearing roads Monday in Fairbanks. She advised motorists to use caution when encountering snow removal equipment.

“Remember, with all that snow blowing up when vehicles go by, it’s a hazard,” she said.

The weekend snowfall increased the total for the season to just 11.1 inches at the airport, half the normal 22.2 inches for this point. It pushed the monthly snow total to 4.1 inches. November is typically the snowiest month of the winter with an average of 13.8 inches of snow.

The snow is expected to be replaced by a shot of cold air today that could drop the temperature to as low as 35 degrees below zero tonight, but the cold is expected to be short-lived.

Clouds were expected to begin clearing out of the area Monday night, dropping temperatures below zero at the airport for only the second time this winter. Temperatures will continue to drop today with lows of 20 to 35 below before it begins to warm up Wednesday, though temperatures will remain below zero. By Thursday, high temperatures are expected to be back up in the teens with lows in the single digits.

So far, November has been much warmer than normal. The average temperature through the first 10 days of the month — 15.4 degrees — was 8 degrees above normal, and it has been the warmest start to the month since 2003, according to the weather service.

Day 16 - Favorite poem or collection of poetry
One of them is Piccadilly Circus at Night: Street Walkers by DH Lawrence

WHEN into the night the yellow light is roused like dust above the towns,
Or like a mist the moon has kissed from off a pool in the midst of the downs,

Our faces flower for a little hour pale and uncertain along the street,
Daisies that waken all mistaken white-spread in expectancy to meet

The luminous mist which the poor things wist was dawn arriving across the sky,
When dawn is far behind the star the dust-lit town has driven so high.

All the birds are folded in a silent ball of sleep,
All the flowers are faded from the asphalt isle in the sea,
Only we hard-faced creatures go round and round, and keep
The shores of this innermost ocean alive and illusory.

Wanton sparrows that twittered when morning looked in at their eyes
And the Cyprian’s pavement-roses are gone, and now it is we
Flowers of illusion who shine in our gauds, make a Paradise
On the shores of this ceaseless ocean, gay birds of the town-dark sea.
