Today I went snowmachining for the first time with one of my coworkers (George). He'd been wanting to take mom and I since the summer and today we got a chance to. It wasn't very cold so it was a good day to do it. He lives on a slough of the Tanana River. When you're going up the hill on the way to his house there's a sweet view of the Tanana and probably the mountains if it wasn't cloudy. When we got there we met his mom and his pets. He has 3 cats, 2 dogs and 2 turtles! Woww haha. He first took mom and I around the loop by his house and then we did it ourselves with him sitting in the back. I was so not confident at first haha..I didn't wanna crash or something. :P George encouraged me along and said I was doing well though. Then mom and I took turns driving around the loop. By the third time I was definitely more confident cause I knew the trail and stuff. Then we went inside and talked for awhile and then did more snowmachining around the loop. George said we could ride on the river if we wanted and said it was frozen solid unlike the melting Chena..so we did. We rode to where the actual Tanana was (not very far). SWEEEET. We rode back. went inside and talked more, then left. We may go boating with him in the summer too..I've been wanting to go on the Tanana so sweet! I shall post pics tomorrow

Would you rather shave your head for a year or shave your eyebrows off for a year? Eyebrows

I honestly wouldn't recommend the Tanana for your first river run. It can look pretty placid, but it's so silty that it can drown a strong swimmer wearing a life jacket. I personally try to avoid it.

We didn't go on the main part..just a slough of it (but we drove where we could see the main part). I wouldn't have gone if it was unsafe but I trusted George since he lives there. I definitely want to be safe so I don't lose my life or hurt myself :P

Ooh..wait you probably mean boating. I think George is pretty experienced so I trust him..though I certainly wouldn't want to fall out and drown

Yeah, I mean boating. xD Even the most hardcore longtime Alaskans I know don't particularly care to go on the Tanana, regardless of experience. There's just no room for error. If you fall in, you can pretty much kiss your butt goodbye. :-/

Oh wow. He says he goes up the Tanana to the Chena so maybe that's a bit safer. I'll have to talk to him about it

Oh yeah, if he's just using that as a passage to the Chena, that's a pretty normal thing. The Chena is much, much safer and would definitely be my recommendation if you want a good river trip. :) My parents and grandparents live right on the Chena!

That sounded like so much fun! That's awesome. I definitely want to see pictures!

I'd shave my eyebrows off for a year. At least I could pencil them in if it looked really stupid.
