Driving through the Alaska Range

Mountains and the Nenana River

Hurricane Gulch Bridge. It cost like a million dollars to build

View from the bridge

Hurricane Creek?

That's the..Susitna River?

Terminus of Ruth Glacier!!

Chulitna River?

Turnagain Arm at low tide. There were bald eagles on the mud (the mud flats there are dangerous cause it's like quicksand). It's named that cause Captain Cook had to "turn around again" when he got there haha

Glacier!

Portage Lake with icebergs! Portage Glacier is behind the mountain to the right. The one in the middle is Burns Glacier

The tunnel to Whittier

At Whittier

Glacial waters!!

The harbor with Sapphire Princess cruise ship. Our hotel room had a view of the ship and we got to watch it leave!

Glacier above the harbor. In town I thought I saw something white up there haha

I think this one is Tebenkof Glacier

Coming up on College Fjord. On that side there iiiis..Barnard, Wellesely, Vassar, Bryn Mawr, Smith..and Harvard is over there somewhere. On one side they're named after men's colleges and on the other women's

Harvard Glacier!!! LOOK AT ITS MORAINES!

Uhh..that one might be one on the other side. Maybe Dartmouth or Baby

I think this one's Yale

*dies* (you can see the dirty ice from the moraines!!)

:D

Harvard and Yale

Sea otters on the ice!

Sea otters

Cascade Glacier. The video from Margerie guy shows it going all the way into the water..eep

Cascade and Barry

Cascade, Barry and Coxe

A bunch of hanging glaciers. If you can see it there's a rock glacier too (it's in the middle down by the water)

SURPRISE GLACIER :D (it has a medial moraine! *drools*)

:D :D

Going back to the Barry Arm glaciers

Poor Cascade..*sniff*

Trying to get its "bumps" as it goes up (or down if you wanna think of it that way) the mountain. It has moraines too hehe

Glacier ice! Someone had got it out of the water for us haha

Nom nom nom (that ice could be 100 years old!)

Kittiwake rookery

Haha

Haha aw

Portage Lake in the storm :P

The face of Portage is a half mile wide! It has retreated a LOT though

Eeeee haha

Darn guy messed up the pic! Haha

I was surprised to see Ryan up there

I was FREEZING in this picture haha

Greeeeen

Exit Glacier

Stylin' :P

SEE THOSE DANG RIVER CHANNELS I HAD TO CROSS haha

Striations!

Blueeeee. Apparently the glacier was dirty from Mount Redoubt :P

Glacier ice hehe

TOUCHING EXIT GLACIER YEAAAAH baby :D

Seward harbor

Anchorage and the Chugach Mountains. Apparently yesterday there was an earthquake near Willow! I remember driving through Willow! And I was in Anchorage when the earthquake happened! Apparently it was felt all the way to Fairbanks..woww. I didn't feel anything..maybe cause I was in the car

Haha these are just randomly by the side of the road :P
Pic of the day:

I also have videos but I haven't finished uploading them yet..will hopefully post them tomorrow
Tsimshian: Southeast Indians who migrated over from British Columbia in 1887. About one thousand Tsimshians live in Alaska, most of them in the town of Metlakatla on Anette Island

Date: 2009-06-23 10:44 pm (UTC)I've always wanted to see kittiwakes, and you got to see a whole rookery! Very awesome there. I bet it was extremely noisy and maybe smelly/dirty, too haha. The sea otters were sweet, too!
Exit Glacier looks HUGE...you look so small next to it heehee.
I heard about that earthquake...I saw it on the news. They said it was 5.4 or something like that.
Pretty purple and yellow flowers! The Hurricane Gulch Bridge looks pretty crazy...it looks like it's barely holding onto the edge of the cliff on the other side, but I'm sure it's quite secure.
The glacial water is SOO blue...SO PRETTY haha.
There are some really good pics of you as well as you and Ryan! Yaaay nice! Thanks so much for sharing! :D
