They're goin' North, the rush is on..
Jun. 10th, 2009 07:31 pmToday we went on the Discovery, went to the Farmer's Market and went to the El Dorado Gold Mine tour. I shall tell about it with my pics. My face got sunburned! Haha
Tomorrow I'm going to Denali! I shall bring my laptop in case I can get online
I got a package from Dana..she got me a book on hikes in Fairbanks and a set of nature DVDs (one is an Alaska one!). Woo! Haha
Oh and I FINALLY started my period two days ago! (Happy birthday :P) I moved my gyno appointment to next week

BRIIIIDGE. Driving over the Chena Flood Control thingy on the way to the hike yesterday

Brenda and I

*stares* Whoaaa I'm fat..jeeez ew

BRIDGES OVER A CREEK

The Richardson Highway

Wheel of the Discovery!

They showed us a plane demonstration of it taking off and landing

The Pump House restaurant

EXPENSIVE ALASKA HOUSE

THEY HAVE A SWIMMING POOL?! I didn't know ANY house in Alaska had an in-ground pool. And there was a little kid swimming! Haha wow

Jeez..

The musher Susan Butcher's cabin (she's actually dead now). She was a champion in the Iditarod race. They gave us a sled dog demonstration

Haha wth?? Redneck much??

Reindeer hehe

A model Native village

The confluence of the Chena and the Tanana!!! Haha I've been wanting to see that for awhile :P

A fish wheel thingy

YAY!

The silt is where the Tanana begins..duuude

IT'S GLACIER FLOUR!!!

At the Native village

Tananaaaa (btw you pronounce Tanana as Tah-na-na)

A rare birch bark canoe

In the gold mine

Mining stuff

Sluice box (hey that was one of the Alaska definitions recently..). It separates the gold from the other stuff

Water starting to come down

We got to go gold panning..they gave us bags of dirt and that's the gold that was in mine! It's worth $10 or 10.50. Other people found gold that was worth $33!! (Depends on how much it weighs or something) I got mine put into a locket on a necklace. Also I learned Goldstream Valley is the biggest gold mining place in the US!! WOOHOO GOLDSTREAM VALLEY FTW!!!

DUDE..this is someone's YARD. WHY??
Pic of the day:

Horseback riding!
Stateside: The contiguous United States. In pre-statehood days, when Alaskans left the territory for more civilized parts they were often said to have "gone stateside." The word is still heard from time to time, usually from the lips of an old-timer
