Mom and I signed up for cross-country skiing lessons (they start next month) so yesterday I bought skis and acessories..oh boy haha. I'm gonna look like an idiot. :P On the way home we explored by frozen Ballaine Lake (it's actually a pond but apparently if they can call a hallway a mall they can call a pond a lake haha). The edge was frozen enough to be safe to walk on..it was sunny and it looked like someone had thrown a bunch of glitter on the snow. The river is freezing over too. I also ordered a long jacket that can withstand up to -50

Today's mom and dad's anniversary..they've been married 20 something years!

The Autism Speaks commercials need to die..comparing the odds of getting autism to getting in a car crash?! Like it's as bad as getting in a car crash or something..ugh

Today's stupidest quote: Official Pentagon words...and what they really mean:
interlocking slide fastener: zipper
portable hand-held communications transcriber: pencil

Nah, they're just saying that it's as common as getting in a car crash. They're not saying that it's just as bad as a car crash. Car crashes are just fairly common that practically every person will face some time in their life, yet so many people are so ignorant about it.

That does not change the fact that Autism Speaks are trying to create an association in the viewer's mind between autism and the injuries one may sustain in a car accident. It is a truly sick and disgusting tactic that would get organisations like Diabetes America or the Cancer Council stripped of their tax exemptions and status as charitable organisations.

So the question you should be asking is why Heather and I have to put up with being dehumanised like this solely for being born different to those in power.

Honey, everyone who is different is looked down upon. This isn't new.

And one can view that analogy many different ways. Of course, one who is particularly sensitive to this subject will view it defensively, but one who is not can see that perhaps they compare the statistics of autism to the statistics of a car crash (NOTE: Heather didn't say car crash injury, she said car crash) to raise awareness that just like a car crash, it is a reality that can happen to anyone of any race/gender/income level/religion/etc. and it must be dealt with appropriately, not denied, or ignored, or bigoted against.

I'm sorry to say this, but we all choose how to interpret and accept (or un-accept) words and attitudes. And in this world where people are prejudice against and down right scared of anything/one different, you're going to become a very bitter person if you take things like this to heart so negatively. Try to be the better person, and not immediately assume the worst of everyone. (I know, it seems almost impossible to do sometimes.) Many people are just plain ignorant and frightened of what they don't understand.

Look, let me make it real clear for you: Autism Speaks are to Heather and I what the Nazis were to Anne Frank. If you want proof of this, simply go to their website and take a good, hard look at what they say their mission is. In part, the prevention of autism. Autism is present from the day one is born, a fact that they also like to confuse the issue about. So if Autism Speaks have their way, autistic children will be forcefully aborted before they can be born. They call this helping. If we were talking about aborting all black, white, red, yellow, or short children before they get a chance to be born, it would be called genocide.

I am curious, have you ever seen the Michael Burleigh documentary called Selling Murder: The Killing Films Of The Third Reich? Through the running length, Burleigh shows footage from Nazi propaganda films that had previously been thought of as lost forever. While their content is hard to describe in text, the similarity that a lot of Autism Speaks ads bear to them in phrasings, shooting style, and depiction/dehumanisation of the subjects is uncanny.

What Autism Speaks does is not, never will be, and never was mere harmless ignorance. They even have started a campaign of telling the public that if your autism is not glaringly obvious, ie Low-Functioning, then it is not really autism. They create a funding black hole where has-been or nobody celebrities get millions of dollars instead of work done on things autistic adults really need done such as low-cost housing in areas where they can access assistance from specialists who know their butt from their ear regarding autism. Oh yeah, and they help perpetuate the myth that only children can be autistic.

This is a far cry from saying that autism must be dealt with appropriately. To claim that Autism Speaks do anything of the sort is like claiming that neo-Nazis promote understanding and integration between differing cultures. It is so wrong that it is flabbergasting.

Everyone who is different to the expected norm may be looked down upon, but last I looked, you could not get away with murdering an Aboriginal child in Australia. You could not get away with murdering an epileptic or cross-eyed child anywhere in the world except maybe places like Afghanistan where there is basically no law anyway. You can, however, get away with murdering an autistic child by making some of the most transparently false claims about autism. If you think I am lying, then tell me what is being done to prevent Abubakar Tariq Nadama's murderer from killing again.

Yes, many people are just plain ignorant and frightened of what they do not understand. You have made it apparent that this includes you.

Look, let me make it clear to you: I don't give a leaping shit what Autism Speaks is or does. We are talking about ONE quote that Heather posted in her LJ. I answered based on that ONE quote. I didn't ask you for further sources. You inferred and analyzed the intent of that ONE quote based on your interpretation of the whole campaign's motives (and it's obvious to me that you are incredibly bias and therefore your opinion cannot be rational and is obsolete to me in this matter) while I inferred and analyzed the intent of that ONE quote based on said ONE quote. That was and remains to be the only subject at hand. I didn't ask you for your irrelevant rant, so you can step off your soap box now.
So, are you insane, or just a jackass?

Wow. Is it your goal to insult Heather as well as me? Because that is what you are accomplishing.

I can assure you that Heather's reaction to that campaign, and indeed every campaign spewed out by the sick normalist imaginations of Autism Speaks, pretty much coincides with mine. In fact, I can assure you that if you took every autistic adolescent and adult in the world and asked them point blank, you would not find one who disagrees with my view of Autism Speaks or its advertising.

I also do not give a flying fukk what you asked for. You made an incredibly stupid, ignorant, and flat-out wrong response based on your ignorance regarding Heather's feelings about Autism Speaks. Furthermore, my statements are not merely relevant to Heather's objections to the aforementioned ad campaign. They go directly to the heart of our feelings regarding Autism Speaks. Or was "The Autism Speaks commercials need to die.." not clear enough for you?

Out of curiosity, how is it possible for me to be "incredibly bias"? Did some normie fukkhead die and make bias an adjective while I was not looking? If you are going to make an accusation, get your word forms right at the very least. And of course I am biased against Autism Speaks. I am biased against Autism Speaks in the same way that Heather is biased against Autism Speaks, Jews around Europe were biased against Adolf Hitler, millions of Cambodians were biased against Pol Pot, et cetera ad nauseum. So somehow you think objecting to people trying to line you up for genocide makes a person's viewpoint invalid? I hope I never set foot in a country run by you, then.

Oh yeah, and that ONE quote was made with ONE purpose in mind, dipshit: to devalue the lives and rights of autistic human beings like Heather. That is the ONE purpose Autism Speaks works towards. Note how the emphasis on ONE only works when it happens to be done the right way.

Autism Speaks' ads are designed with a singular idea behind it: that autistic people are inferior and should be murdered indiscriminately. They like to use the word "cured", but as far as Heather and I are concerned, there is no distinction. Get rid of our autism and you get rid of us. If you are such an ignorant little shit that you cannot understand that, you have no business calling yourself Heather's friend or trolling her journal.

LMAO I'm the one trolling her LJ? Ok, I see now. You're insane and a jackass! I've lived with someone like you my whole life, and I know by now that there is no hope in reasoning with your irrationality. Everything that you just said actually makes sense to you? Yeah, you're batshit and I'm done talking to you.

P.S. Ever wonder if people don't actually hold your autism against you, but they don't like you because you're an asshole? Or have the aliens that speak to you via the chip they implanted in your brain tell you that no one likes you because you know what the moon is really made out of? LOL This is too easy. Seek professional help, please.

Aww happy anniversary to your dad and your mom! October is a gorgeous month to have a wedding, I think. :)

Cross country skiing sounds like fun...I would like to try that over trying downhill skiing again. It just seems...safer. Haha.

My personal favourite Autism Speaks ad is the one where they try to tell the viewer that Autism is like having someone come into your house and kidnap your child. I personally want to find the actor they used for that one and inform him that it is my parents' failure to treat me like a Human being and be a help rather than an obstacle that ensures I will never love them like a son ever again.

Parents like to see children as little clones of themselves. It's a hard concept to understand, and it actually sickens me, but I know that it's true. And when their little clones end up flawed, or even significantly different than they are in any way, it just devastating to them. It really hurts their egos and selfish pride (which is the reason many people strive to have biological children in the first place.)
I'm very sorry to hear that your parents were so selfish and insensitive towards you. But I hope that, at least, it made you a stronger person.
