Actually, the more I watch Children Of Men (bear with me, I have not read the novel), the more I consider it a parable. It is about a world where humanity has learned to live without something it used to take for granted, and the manner in which it responds when someone is possessed of that something. Like when I see the advertisements posted on your journal, I think to myself "if a Jewish writer complained about the IHR being advertised on his journal, LiveJournal would bend over backwards to remove it". The film Children Of Men reminds me about how people behave when they see others taking for granted what they find impossible, or as near to impossible as makes no odds.

I love the plot line of that movie (you know from the commercials I saw) but it looks way too violent for me to watch *sigh*

It is somewhat violent but there are nonviolent parts you could watch..

The film's ending takes place in a detention camp for illegal refugees, into whcih a strike force of soldiers plus a mob of political terrorists have come, in search of the woman the central character is protecting. Lots of bullets are exchanged, although it is hardly what I would call violent.

I am surprised they are not already requiring students to read the novel in school, if it is anything like the film.

Does that Shagrath guy say it? Now that you mention it I think it's that part I was never able to understand..

Khan says it, right before "Chase the heathen call. We belong, you and I. Unison in all you deny."
I never really paid much attention to that line until you posted it =P

Aww, Tim lent us Children of Men to watch, and I really wanted to, but I think he may have taken it back home with him. I'll have to ask him to leave it here again, haha.
