That's the name of the book I'm reading. It's really...odd. I read the back and it said 'a swashbuckling adventure'...I'm on page 140 and there's been some swordfights but not much. And the way it's written is really weird! "We will pause for our readers..." WTH?? Who's we?? And it's annoyingly formal. And the author says "well" way too much...what kinda editor did he have??

Anyone know any good fantasy books with epic battles (besides LOTR, Shannara, and Wheel of Time)?

"Dort am Klavier lauschte ich ihr und wenn ihr Spiel begann"--"Klavier," Rammstein (no idea what that says but I love that part of the song)

Terry Pratchett books don't really have any epic battles as such, but some of them are really good for a laugh. They are very Brit-specific in their humour, but they also create a very interesting fantasy world. There is an online store where novels set in the world of fantasy games I have played can be bought here. I don't know if that will help much. I've only read a couple of the Gotrek & Felix books, which were good once I got past the writer's tendency to write paragraphs a mile long. Stephen King also has a novel called The Eyes Of The Dragon which is supposedly a good fantasy tale.

Kate Elliot's Crown of Stars series. READ THEM. There are six books in all, and the last one recently came out (I'm going to read it soon! EEE!)

Apparently A Game of Thrones series is really great too, but I haven't read it. But I want to!

Ummm...The Chronicles of Narnia do have some epic battles, especially in the latter books.

I have read A Game Of Thrones, and I would not recommend it for the simple reason that a) it takes forever to get anywhere and b) most editions these days have print so small you need a magnifying glass to read them.

I personally didn't like Eye of the Dragon by Steven King, but I do recommend A Song of Ice and Fire, a fantasy series by George R. R. Martin(The first book is A Game of Thrones).
Concerning the Rammstein song- my German is pretty terrible, but that line basically means 'there at the piano [I] listened as the game began'(Klavier means piano).

Dragonlance! There are dragons!!!!! Oh I love dragons!
When I read Dragonlance, I almost forget how much I ever adore Shannara.
Anyway, have you read Shannara latest book, Straken?

I LOVE THE PHOENIX GUARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's such a great book - that and Five Hundred Years After just make me die laughing. WOO!!!!! The tone of the author pretending to be the historian cracks me up. I'm not sure if he loved Dumas or hated him, with the way he mocks the style . . . anyway. ^_^

My favorite fantasy hands-down is Elizabeth Moon's The Deed of Paksenarrion. It's about the farmer's daughter who didn't want to marry the pig farmer up the lane, so she ran away, joined a mercenary company, and ended up a Paladin. That sort of thing appeals to me.
