I LOVE THE PHOENIX GUARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's such a great book - that and Five Hundred Years After just make me die laughing. WOO!!!!! The tone of the author pretending to be the historian cracks me up. I'm not sure if he loved Dumas or hated him, with the way he mocks the style . . . anyway. ^_^
My favorite fantasy hands-down is Elizabeth Moon's The Deed of Paksenarrion. It's about the farmer's daughter who didn't want to marry the pig farmer up the lane, so she ran away, joined a mercenary company, and ended up a Paladin. That sort of thing appeals to me.
