Friday five
Sep. 29th, 2023 08:07 pm1. Do you crave pumpkin spice all year long or just in the autumn? I don't really crave pumpkin spice at all
2. What’s the oddest thing that you’ve seen touting a pumpkin-spice scent? Not sure..
3. What’s one of the first things you do when you are sure autumn has arrived? Make sure I know where my winter stuff is, or at least light jackets for wearing inside or something
4. Will or have you bought a pumpkin and will you carve it eventually or make pie out of it? No, though I carved pumpkins when I was a kid
5. Will you decorate or is it not your style? I should put the autumn leaf stems on my bed like I did last year! I've been too lazy though. :P Dad's definitely gone all out though, and has a fake skeleton outside and a couple sitting on chairs inside LOL (Sid growled at it when he first saw it haha). Today when he picked me up for work there were a couple skulls on top of the dashboard..definitely wasn't expecting that LOL
Today at work we had a "Staff Retreat." We first did Coworker Speed Dating, where we talked to someone for three minutes about a question that was on the board. All of us are busy, so the idea was to get to know each other a little more..some people I hardly know because they're busy in their program and we never really talk. It was actually pretty fun, though REALLY exhausting talking that much haha..after it was over I was like "I've exhausted my talking capacity for the day" LOL. Then we talked about vulnerability and watched a Ted Talk Brene Brown did (I know I always feel vulnerable, especially because I'm autistic. I might look confident, but inwardly I'm squirming), had lunch (spring rolls!) and then the different programs (GED, bookstore, etc) did a short presentation about what they do in their programs. For the bookstore, we had people briefly cleaning and shelving books, which they enjoyed ("cleaning books is so zen!" haha). The GED director gave us a pop quiz, which we did terribly at LOL, and the English Language Learners director started her presentation all in Chinese (she taught in China and is fluent in the language). All of us were confused and lost, but she wanted us to experience what it's like for the students who are starting to learn English. Definitely intimidating! We also had a previous executive director talk to us for awhile and then it was time to go home. It was a tiring day, but more fun than I thought it would be. One person who I've hardly talked to said it was nice to get to know me a little better, and we thought it was cool that no matter who we hire, we're like a family..it's probably different than other workplaces in that way, and we all care so much about clients/students/customers and want them to succeed and be happy in a non-judgemental environment. So cool! Vicki's easily fit in, she's one of the nicest and most comforting person I've ever met. It's definitely a special place!
