Today at work Denise told me to go up front because someone wanted to see me..I thought it might be Ingrid back in town, so I was completely shocked when a customer presented me with a smoothie!! She said she appreciated all that I do..wow!! That was so kind of her..awww (another time a customer gave me an entire box of lens cleaning wipes for glasses..our customers are awesome lol)
On Sunday I had the awesome experience of getting an ingrown toenail removed. When the doctor was about to numb my toe with a big needle, he was like "this is gonna suck, don't move." Challenge accepted! I didn't even flinch..mom was just staring at me and later she said "I expected you to go 'ow ow ow!', but you were just calm, cool, and collected." I think even the doctor was impressed, because he kept saying how well I was doing lol. Now I'm terrified to trim my nails, I don't want it to happen again D: (they're super painful!)
I just read a book about Lieutenant Castner's exploration in Alaska in 1898 (that's who Castner Glacier in the Alaska Range is named after!)..it looked interesting, but I didn't expect his awesome sense of humor! Here are some interesting/amusing passages I found
"At Orca [near Cordova] we unloaded some Chinamen, joss sticks and all...these pig-tailed celestials came to work in the salmon canneries"
"Pig-tailed celestials"?!??! OMG LOL wowww
"From the hills we could see, far to the east and west, the rugged, snow-capped peaks and glaciers of the Alaska Range. The Delta River cut through it in its course to the Tanana. Many glaciers terminated at the river bank, their terminal moraine making difficult ground to travel over. [Evidently they were near Black Rapids Glacier]"
Cool! That also shows how much Black Rapids has retreated..it's nowhere near the river now :(
"As we broke trail on our snowshoes up the steep incline of snow and ice between the mountain side and side of the glacier, we could see great masses of ice and rock thrown and piled together in every conceivable position. The lower masses of ice were almost as dark as the rocks about them, having been traveling neighbors for centuries, ground down and carried along by billions of tons of their younger fellows above"
I hope they're good neighbors lol, otherwise they'd be like "HEY KIDS GET OFF MY MORAINE!" Haha
"Traveling on glaciers is dangerous at best, but during snowstorms when vision beyond a few yards is impossible, many lives have been lost on Alaska glaciers. The traveler wanders from his course onto another glacier, or falls into one of the numerous crevasses or openings to remain in cold storage for a century" (heh..cold storage :P)
"[A mosquito], which was drawing blood from my finger, through the seam of my gauntlet, had his body punctured by a second mosquito. The latter continued to draw blood from the body of his friend, without causing the punctured mosquito any apparent anxiety"
What the heck??! Hahaha wow
"The miners on the Chena, however, told me that the town [Weare] would be found on the north bank of the Yukon, where it had formed a habit of remaining since its birth" (LOL)
"When it was coldest (how cold we could not estimate, as all thermometers gave up and went out of business)..." (OMG I love this guy LOL)
"Alaska has more than its share of mountains. Many distinct ranges and many more conglomerate heaps diversify and break its surface in all directions. Topographically considered, it is a freak" (haha, nicee :P)
