Biz Bee 2018

Tonight was the Biz Bee, work's annual spelling bee fundraiser..you would think I wouldn't be so nervous since it was my 6th year spelling and knew what to expect, but that honestly made me MORE nervous, since we won one year and got second and third place in other years..I felt like we had a reputation to live up to or something. Oh well, it was still fun lol. The words we got were melba (never heard of it, but Denise knew what it was), newfangled, misanthropy (that was my word to spell..I was shaking SO hard as I spelled..Denise saw and put her hand on my leg to encourage me, which was awesome of her), effervescently (that's an awesome word lol), impedimenta, faja and chasse (a dance step), which we got out on (I think we spelled it "chause"). We got 5th place out of 16, which is still pretty good. One team got "tenebrism," but threw it out..to me, it was super easy, since I took Latin in high school.."tenebris" means "dark," and then you just add the extra m on the end. Another word was storis, which is a floating mass of closely crowded icebergs and floes..you think I'd know that one from all the polar exploration books I've read, but I don't remember that one! I'll probably see it all over the place now LOL. Another one was verglas (a thin coating of ice on a surface), which I've seen in many mountaineering books, but I haven't read any in awhile, and added an extra "s" at the end..good thing it wasn't our word lol. After we got out, one team got abseil..aw man, that's an easy one! They actually spelled it wrong..I wanted that one lol. Finally there were two teams, who battled for a little bit..the winning team was called the Anthropomorphic Tigers..I think they were from an elementary school, but I'm not 100% positive. To win you have to get two words in a row right, and they spelled Amata and chiaroscuro right..WOW. They're definitely smart lol. It's always fun, I just wish I didn't get so nervous and freaked out. I'm not sure how much we raised..we'll probably find out tomorrow or something. I'm glad everyone had fun, that's really all that matters :)

While studying for the Biz Bee (mom's a great coach), we came across one of the coolest words I've ever seen: ipsedixitism (dogmatic assertion or assertiveness)! It's super fun to say haha. We really wanted that as one of our words..darn :P
