Storm yesterday...WOW
Jun. 20th, 2004 11:22 amWell, I was just sitting on the Internet, as usual, when my mom called. She said there was gonna be a bad storm, and to get ready. My mom doesn't call me for just any old cell; we knew it was gonna be *bad.* Well, I walk outside, and see dark clouds, but they didn't look bad at all. Heard some thunder, but didn't look bad. Well, my dad put the stuff ouside away. Then it started raining for about 15 min, then stopped. I went out on the balcony, looked west, and stared. There, moving fast, were these bluish-green clouds, with lotsa lightning. I started to get kinda scared, cause I never saw anything like that before. I saw lighting touch the ground, and went inside then. I unplugged all the computers and turned off all the lights.
The house got dark, so dark that it seemed that it was night. My dad was swimming in the pool when the storm started. (Not a good idea with lightning.) It just seemed like any other severe storm, but then it happened: the wind. It was raining hard already, and the wind was blowing so hard it made the outside white. I was watching inside looking in the backyard, and I couldn't see the house behind us. The 50 ft sweet gum tree looked like it was gonna bend in half. All the trees in the backyard did. I'm surprised they didn't.
Well, the wind let up a little, then it started to hail. It wasn't very big. Finally, the storm died down, with a little thunder here and there. My dad stayed outside the whole time. I turned the computer back on, then my dad came in and told me to go outside. One of our Bradford pear trees was totally uprooted, and some at the park had whole branches down. I went back inside, and dad told me he thought there was a tornado coming cause it was so windy.
Later, when my mom came home, she said there mighta been a tornado in the cloud, but there was a funnel cloud in Dallas. Well, we ran some errands, and saw more of the damage. Tons of branches were off trees. But it was weird, cause our city seemed to got targeted, cause the next city got *nothing.* When we got home, we took a walk. WOW, the damage was horrible! Whole trees fell over. One half of a tree fell and got wedged between 2 trees, striping the bark off the tree. And this was a good 60-70 ft tree. Then, as we walked further, the damage was worse. Trees blown over, whole big branches down. The whole groud was littered with leaves. Some branches fell on people's houses. They were lucky their windows didn't break. Some people's fences were down. The 3rd house down from ours had their chimny blown off. Our damage paled in comapison to theirs. The city will be buisy for awhile.
