Smoothies are DANGEROUS

Experts warn fruit smoothies may be just as unhealthy as soda

Ugh SERIOUSLY?? Apparently EVERYTHING is bad for you or will cause cancer these days. "Smoothies and fruit juices are the new danger"?? Maybe if you use that nasty syrup stuff but just a regular fruit smoothie?? These articles on Yahoo are so annoying, but this one pushed me over the edge since I love smoothies so much (one article said wine will cause breast cancer!). Just eat in moderation! Next they're gonna say apples will make you go blind..

It's raining rather hard today..it was so hard getting out of bed haha

Ugh, people need to just knuckle down and face up to the fact that we as a nation are not Fat due to WHAT we eat, but HOW MUCH we eat! Teaching portion control and well, anything control, would do better then all this "sugar is bad, fat is bad, carbs are bad, everything is bad" stuff.

See, I disagree with that. There are studies that show that the body metabolizes different kinds of food differently. And there is absolutely nothing nutritionally redeeming about refined sugar and refined carbs.

I think rather than purely portion control, we should teach and practice limiting certain KINDS of foods. I love cookies so I'm not going to see never eat them, but we would be better off as a nation if these things were treated like treats and desserts that are for special occasions rather than every day snack items.

My rules for smoothies:

Make them myself
Don't use any refined sweetener and only small amounts of honey or maple syrup (and even that don't use every time)
Use the whole fruit as much as possible so that you get all the fiber and just enough juice to make it liquid enough
Use coconut milk or full fat yogurt or something as a creamy base to get some healthy fat in there (which is good on its own, plus helps prevent blood sugar spikes)
Don't eat huge ones every day!!

I still can't believe that - you are right with how researchers/the media/etc. say that pretty much EVERYTHING is bad for you in some way, shape, or form. It's exhausting so I don't even pay attention it anymore. I mean, for real. If I step outside and breathe, I can get cancer because of air pollution. Soooo whatEVER. Ugh!!
