Some Hawaii pics
Today's our last day in Hawaii. :( That make me sad..I like it here. I've become fond of the Hawaiian language too..it's so interesting and hard to pronounce haha. I read in Fairbanks there's freezing rain..ew. I'll be hard going back to reality..especially since school starts the day after we get back home. I'm gonna post the pics I have uploaded so far!

Mt. Rainer in the sunrise!

The expanse of the Pacific Ocean

Land ahoy!

Flying over old lava flows

The view from Outback Steakhouse

The view from our hotel room

Awesome heated pool

Looking out at 'Anaeho'omalu Bay. You try pronouncing that :P

MY PALENESS IS BLINDING

Underwater shot!

Like Alaska Hawaii has gorgeous sunsets

KITTY. *squee* You can see his unique markings in this pic

Aww. I saw him yesterday too..I fed him bacon but I don't think he liked it as much as lobster :P

Interesting tree

We've hung out up here a lot

Birdie! It's a Common Myna (I bought a Hawaii bird book haha..also Wikipedia :P). They like hanging around the hotels along with doves and sparrows..I love feeding them bread hehe. The sparrows are fast and steal whole pieces and fly away with them :P

Either Mauna Loa or Mauna Kea in the distance. Waikoloa and the hotels are built on lava flows from the volcano

I had to take this fast..I couldn't have hesitated or it would have already gone down!

Coral while snorkeling

Fish!

Turtle!

O HAI

Green hills by Waimea..it reminded me of Wisconsin

Waipio Valley..it's sacred to Hawaiians

Haha I love this pic! One of the kitties at the shops in Waimea

Green hills of Waimea. It's as high as Denver! Someone described it as "not fog, but clouds going through the city." I like that haha

A cinder cone..these form when a volcano erupts and all the ash and stuff falls in the same place

Regal king palms

Mauna Loa (Long Mountain in Hawaiian). It's technically the biggest mountain on earth. From a website: At 60 miles long and 30 miles wide, it makes up half of the entire island. When one considers that the flanks of Mauna Loa sit on sea floor that is about 16,400 ft (5,000 M) deep, the "height" of this volcano relative to neighboring land (the sea floor) is more like 30,080 ft (9,170 m)! Mauna Loa is the largest active volcano in the world. In fact, using this last measure of its height, it is one of the tallest mountains in the world (although many mountains, such as Mt. Everest in the Himalaya mountain range, sit higher relative to sea level). All large land masses (such as mountains) also push down upon the Earth's crust due to their enormous weight. So, directly beneath Mauna Loa, the sea floor on which it sits is depressed by and additional 26,000 ft. Wowwww..that is crazyy. It last erupted in 1984

The summit eruption of Kilauea!

Big caldera

A lava flow that went over the road in the 70s I think

Fuzzy tree!

These form when lava builds up on trees and they fall over

Lava is so cool to look at

This was fun to watch haha

A'a lava (rubbly type lava) on top of pahoehoe lava (smoother and ropy looking). I love that I learned these things in that class before coming here and seeing it :P

Lovely forest

Birdie!

Where the red fern grows?

Lava tube

The glow from Kilauea at night :D

Pretty flowers

Huge ficus tree

He's tired :P

People love taking these white rocks (actually dead coral) and writing their names and stuff in the lava along the highway. Dad and I did it when we were here last but I can't find it

Interesting trees

Lovely sunset

More pics soon!
