I got to see Dana for a couple hours today, yay! (I smell like her perfume now haha.) We had lunch and then went back to my house for awhile..I showed her some of my old school stuff, which she seemed genuinely interested in! I love that about matter how obsessive I am, she's always supportive and interested. <3 She left when the weather started getting started sleeting, eww. It's supposed to snow today and tomorrow..guess Payson will have a white Christmas lol

Here are a couple pics!

Yesterday mom and I went to the State Fair with Laurie, her boyfriend, their baby and Laurie's mom, who I met for the first time (she lives in Washington). It's become a tradition to go with Laurie..she's so fun lol. We ate ALL THE FOOD and pet cute animals lol (Laurie loves goats, so we always have to visit them a couple times lol). I wish I could have gone to the petting zoo, but it was probably closed by the time we got there (I had to work till 6). We got a super delicious cinnamon roll that was so huge we could divide it up among the five of us no problem. Yesterday was one of the nicest days of the summer so's nice to not have to worry about rain lol. I also got way too excited about catching a new Pokemon LOL (the Pokemon update will come tomorrow lol)

some pics! )

I can't believe I got invited to Antarctica once and was like NOPE cause it would have been "too cold." I about fell out of my chair when I rediscovered that post lol. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed going there back then anyway, but still..I want to go there SO bad lol (I'm probably one of the only people on the planet that daydreams about going to Antarctica :P). I bet it's super expensive though..

Mom and I are going to Valdez at the end of the month and we're gonna take a cruise to Meares Glacier!!! Woohoo!!! I haven't seen that glacier in awhile..I wonder if it's still advancing..

Name one belief you have )

Today's trivia: Mexican jumping beans are seed pods that have been inhabited by the larva of a small moth. When the bean is warmed the larva twitches and spasms, causing the characteristic hop (please tell me I'm not the only one that didn't know that. D: lol)

So Saturday was Dana and Matt's wedding! Before the wedding, mom and I were determined to find more than one or two geocaches, or looking for one and not finding it (caching in such a busy place is hard! Especially when you have to figure out where to park). We ended up finding ELEVEN!! Heck yeahh. I think that's my third best day of caching (my second is 16 I think and my best is 20). That was satisfying lol. After that we got ready for the wedding. It was pretty much the best wedding ever..Dana looked perfect and gorgeous and just bursting with happiness. When the officiator was reading his notes both of them stood there looking at each other bursting with love and happiness. It was so awesome when they were finally pronounced man and wife!! They were made for each other. <3 After that was happy hour or something, or "standing around eating and talking" lol. Mom and I snuck up to our room to get a book since that's neither of our fortes lol. After that was dinner..I met Matt's mom and stepdad, the ones that live in Payson. None of us can get over how dad bought a house in the same town Matt's parents live haha. There was also a photobooth (fun! I'm gonna hang those pics on my fridge :D) and dancing. Mom and I hung back at first (we're the worst dancers ever, and shy lol) but when Uptown Funk came on (a great dancing song!) we decided to go up there. Might as well let loose and have fun! We might have been flailing more than dancing LOL, but whatever. Poor Dana was getting tired though (it was fun dancing with her too! She saw the rare side of me lol). Mom and I left around 11 and Dana said the party wound down around midnight. The Best Man and Maid of Honor made great speeches too, which were 100% true. It was a great night!! So happy they're finally married :D

the rest, and pics under here! )

I'll update more extensively about Dana's wedding when I'm not tired lol, but here are a couple pics!

Spiking levels of birch pollen are hitting Fairbanks, Anchorage and much of the rest of Alaska, with doctors seeing an influx of allergy and asthma patients.

It's gotten so bad that even those who aren't allergic may be experiencing reactions to the airborne irritant.

Fairbanks broke its record Monday with a birch pollen count of 4,290. Dr. Jeffrey Demain, medical director for the Anchorage-based Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Center of Alaska, said the world-record birch pollen measurement of 4,696 was recorded in Denmark in 2014, so Fairbanks fell a little shy of the record. But he still described the levels as "massively high."

“It’s so intense to look through the microscope -- all you see is birch pollen,” Demain said.

“We are hearing from patients around the state that they are experiencing increased eye and nasal symptoms as well as asthma symptoms,” Demain wrote in an email. “For the most part, we are hearing from our Anchorage-based patients.”

Among the symptoms seen by staff at the center are allergic people’s eyes tearing up so severely they’re unable to drive, and sufferers of other ailments have also reported problems -- even those who had previously well-controlled asthma might be experiencing sneezing and coughing, Demain said.

“It’s definitely a rough spring for people,” he said. “You reach a point when you have this much particulate in the air, you might have people that aren’t even allergic who might have a problem.”

I was pretty miserable this weekend, but I'm ok now. My eye was so red and itchy it looked like someone had punched me in the eye. Mom's been miserable too. :( I think the rain we've been having off and on has helped clear the pollen some..birch pollen is not fun! lol

Today I've been so happy and talkative and giggly that my throat actually kind of hurts! It's great not feeling super anxious and meh all the time! Yay Prozac :P

Today mom and I met up with Dana and met her fiance Matt for the first time..he's very nice and easygoing. It was great seeing her again, it had been a few years since we'd seen each other in person. We showed her around the house and decided to go to Montezuma Castle, with a stop at Tonto Natural Bridge along the way (mom and I went there in January too). The hike back up the hill from the bridge is a killer, especially since the altitude is above 5000 feet (I'd die trying to climb Mt. Everest D:). We also taught them to geocache, which was fun..Dana found the second one we looked for all on her own, nice! Montezuma Castle was cool (more exciting than the ruins we saw yesterday lol). Building the dwellings into the side of the cliff must have been hard work! After that we were hungry and saw that Sedona wasn't that far from where we were, so we decided to have dinner there, yay! Sedona is so beautiful. Unplanned adventures are the best lol. We had dinner at a Mexican restaurant, yum. I liked seeing all the Christmas lights as we drove back to Payson. I'm sooo happy I got to see Dana again..definitely one of the best days this year! They're getting married next July, so I'm glad I won't have to wait years to see her again lol. Yay <3 (Dana was mentioning how cool it was that we've been to so many states together..Texas, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, California, Alaska, Arizona..nice!)

here are some pics! )

Today is the best I've felt in a REALLY long time..I've felt happy, bubbly, and energetic (I felt like I moved nonstop after lunch, it was great seeing the bookstore so busy! A couple days ago we made over $600!). I feel ALIVE, not just existing and being robotic and not caring about anything. It feels amazing!! The Lexapro (and maybe vitamin d, I heard it helps with depression) must finally be working (I read reviews where people said the same thing, that they're living and not just existing). Too bad all that energy gave me a migraine, but I had Excedrin to help with that. :P I really hope I've turned a corner and that I continue to get better. I was just bursting to write this entry lol, yay!

FAIRBANKS — We’re a long way from Golden Days 2016, but already two Fairbanks groups have Chena River events planned for Sunday, July 24, 2016, designed to fill the void left by the cancellation of the KUAC Red Green Regatta.

For 19 years, public radio and TV station KUAC held a homemade raft competition inspired by the title character of the “Red Green Show” on PBS. KUAC announced this year that it is discontinuing the event because it was too much of a time commitment for the organization’s staff, which has shrunken because of budget cuts in recent years.

As the Red Green ship sails, two groups are eyeing the Sunday of the Golden Days celebration for their own aquatic events. One is tentatively titled the River Regatta, an event inspired by the KUAC regatta, but without the PBS character association. The other is the quasi-annual Dawg Gone Canoe Race, a fundraiser for the Yukon Quest that’s older than the Red Green Regatta. Neither event is really a race, they’re both flotillas that prize creativity over speed.

The new Friends of the River Regatta group announced the new raft regatta in a news release Wednesday. For now the group consists of private radio station owner Last Frontier Mediactive, Mammoth Marketing (the new name of advertising firm Neumuth Advertising) and GCI. The event will be a fundraiser for a to-be-determined Fairbanks nonprofit, according to the news release.

Much remains to be determined about the event including its official name. It’s simply the River Regatta for now, and may keep that name, said Mediactive Operations Manager Glenn Anderson.

Anderson said he started working on a replacement for the Red Green Regatta the day he learned KUAC was stopping the annual event. It’s too important a Fairbanks tradition to lose, he said.

“I started calling around and just went ‘no, no, no no, this can’t happen,’” he said. “So it’s not gonna.”

Like the Red Green Regatta, the new River Regatta will encourage “Alaskan ingenuity” but may not focus so much on duct tape, the construction supply highly prized by the Red Green character, Anderson said. Organizers may move the course to avoid Veterans Memorial Bridge on Barnette Street, which can impede tall rafts when there is high water in the Chena.

Yay, I knew someone else would adopt it lol. It is definitely too much fun and a great community experience for it to go away

The Biz Bee last night was pretty fun. There was cake to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the bookstore! Our first word was "amicable." It bothered me so many teams got out on easyish words (easy I guess if you studied anyway) or threw words out we could have spelled (like "uitlander" and "muishond"). Eventually it was down to two teams, us and the Co-Op Market (their team name was "Two Bees and a Drone" haha). We were excited to be in the top two again! To win, you have to spell two words in a row correctly. We both battled it out for awhile..they gave us impossible words like "dasyure" (I spelled it "dassier" haha) and "carabinieri." Eventually we spelled a word right the Co-Op got wrong, which was "astilbe" (they were usually close with spelling a word right, so we learned from that). The next word was a Hawaiian word, lomilomi..knowing Hawaiian words have every syllable pronounced, it was pretty easy! So for the first time ever..THE LITERACY COUNCIL GOT FIRST PLACE!! Mike was SO happy haha..he gave all three of us a hug at once! I knew having 16 teams was a good omen, plus my teammates are awesome and smart haha. So awesome. :D The day after the Biz Bee is usually "slack off and talk about how awesome the Bee was" LOL. We all have "Biz Bee Hangovers" the next day haha. We all went to lunch today, which was nice. I'm glad we finally won :D

Next week mom and I are going to Arizona for a couple weeks! I can't wait to finally explore Payson and check out our house. Hopefully we'll travel around to places like Sedona (haven't been there in years!) and meet some Internet friends that live in that area. I'm excited to geocache there too. It'll be nice to get away from the darkness and cold for awhile. I'll have to work late to get my hours in, but that's alright :P

The Eiger Sanction by Trevanian (Sept 22-30)

The scariest thing happened yesterday..I started eating a burrito and started choking. I tried drinking something to push it down but that seemed to make it worse..I literally couldn't breathe at all. That was such a scary feeling!! I actually thought I was going to die. I rushed out and knocked on a neighbor's door, but somehow the blockage shifted or something and I could breathe again. Thankfully my body expelled the blockage on its own. That was definitely one of the scariest moments of my life. Everyone I talked to about that told me about this chair Heimlich maneuver, which I had never heard about. I still feel shocked about coming that close to I hope that never happens again..

Yay, I got to hang out with mom today :D

Yay mom made it to Seattle! She'll be home either tonight or very early tomorrow morning. It'll be sooo nice to see her again!!

It snowed this morning, though it was too warm for it to stick. I bet it stuck in certain places, like Murphy Dome (the newspaper said some places could have gotten an inch of snow!)

Mom is coming home this Saturday!! (Well hopefully, she's flying standby.) YAY! It'll be SO amazing to see her again. At least I've been able to talk to her (and grandma) on Skype. Grandma's doing pretty well, so that's good. She said mom took good care of her. :) I can't wait for Saturday!! (Though it'll be like 1 something in the morning when she gets in :P)

We're having a sci-fi/fantasy sale at work since we got TONS of them in lately..I shelve that section, so Erin (the other Bookstore Associate) had me do all the advertising and putting new books up and stuff. It was a little challenging (Mike said he wanted me to be challenged when I got hired haha), but kinda fun too. It's a good learning experience anyway :P

Day 13- quote from a book )

Today's trivia: Caterpillar means "hairy cat" in Old French

Yesterday someone mom used to work with was having a retirement party down the street from mom's house. Mom had hid a couple geocaches around there a couple days ago, so mom and I took a bunch of kids with us that had never cached before to find them. They LOVED it..I'm not a huge fan of kids, but caching with them is SUPER fun. They were like "this is the adventure of a lifetime!!" and "OMG TREASURE" haha. Mom gave them the address..I bet they're gonna beg their parents to go caching now hehe ;)

When we hopefully go to Valdez after BOW we're gonna kayak by Valdez Glacier (it's hidden from view by a mountain and we've always wanted to kayak on the lake and see it). Sweeeet. There are also caches by Worthington, Gulkana and Valdez glaciers, which we'll definitely have to get :D

I GOT THE JOB!! Mike said he was proud of how much I've grown and was very happy to hire me. This is a dream of six years come true..getting paid by the Literacy Council itself! OMG so happy haha. My main duties will be answering the phones, cashiering/helping customers and training/working with volunteers..and I can still volunteer and clean books and stuff. How perfect is that?? It's 10 hours a week and $9 an hour (Mike said at my review in December I can ask for a raise though haha). I start August 1. The other new Bookstore Associate started today too..she seems really nice! Mom and Nina were both super happy for me (I'm so glad Nina helped me get it!). YAY :D :D

Today when I was coming home I saw this couple had found my geocache. I ran over and was like "yay you found my cache!" They were happy I put one there and even happier to meet another geocacher. The lady took a pic of me with her husband holding his GPS. Aww. They were from Holland and very much enjoying Alaska. We exchanged emails and they said if I ever go to Holland I could stay at their house! (But not until April 2015, since they're on a long vacation haha.) They were super was cool to meet them. They went off to find my other cache when we parted ways. :D I'm looking forward to reading their logs whenever they get them posted!

FAIRBANKS - Get ready for another downpour. Just as things were beginning to dry out, a weather system similar to the one that drenched and flooded parts of the central Tanana Valley last week will move into the area tonight, dumping anywhere from 1 to 3 inches of rain, the National Weather Service said in a special weather statement issued early Tuesday afternoon.

The rain is expected to start falling after midnight tonight and continue through Wednesday before tapering off tomorrow evening

My parents closed on the house in Arizona! It'll be nice to have somewhere to escape to in the winter haha

Today I went over to Alaska Fish and Game to see if anyone knew what the bird call I recorded was (it was driving me crazy! Haha). The person who helped me was the guy who taught What's in the Woods? at BOW and the Beyond Bow Track and Sign class! He listened to it and was like "oh yeah, that's a Swainson's Thrush!" OMG I was so happy to finally know what it was haha. That guy is AWESOME..he knows so much about plants and nature in general. I wish he was with me all the time to identify things haha. Yay!
