Yesterday we indeed went to the plaza downtown and had lunch and went shopping..I found the PERFECT's blue and has mountains and says "Santa Fe." It was screaming my name when I saw it haha. I also went to a "new" bookstore (and was happy to see many people shopping there). I like "used" bookstores better..they're more interesting (still won't say no to a bookstore though lol). After that we just hung out at Cindy and Dean's house. They watched The Worst Journey in the World docudrama with me (my 5th time!! I wish I had thought of it sooner, so Julie and the others could have watched it too..oh well :P). Now that I know more about Cherry and Antarctic history in general, it made more sense (like meeting Angela and the quartz thing and stuff). At the end they showed a pic of Cherry I had only seen in Sara Wheeler's book, so I had to take a screenshot to share LOL. When I went to my little trailer thing where I slept I was super hyper and just kept yelling "stick it!!!" haha! It's crazy Cherry still has that big of an effect on though :P

Today we drove back to sad leaving, even if we had an extra day. It was super fun and I'm glad we could get together again! We stopped at the Petrified Forest again to stretch our legs..yeah, I am officially tired of looking at petrified wood now LOL. Still nice to get out of the car though. We got back in Payson just in time for it to START RAINING AND SNOWING AGAIN WTF. It's supposed to do both all week!! Wow, the weather is usually nicer than this here! Not cool :P

Yesterday we arrived at Payson! Getting up at 5 something was totally fun..yuck (you know you've gotten up too early when you put your glasses on and your vision is still blurry LOL). I wish I could have seen Denali or something, but between the darkness, clouds and moisture on the window from the de-icer thingy, I could hardly see anything lol (yeah I know I've flown around it many times, but I never get tired of seeing it :P). When we landed in Anchorage we had to RUN to our next flight, since the plane arrived late in Fairbanks to begin with (they let everyone who was going on that flight get off first..thanks Alaska Airlines, you are awesome!!). I hadn't run that far in years LOL. We made it just in time, phew. The captain of this flight was a woman, heck yeah! She was super awesome and nice and funny. I looked for glaciers after we took off, but I only saw one for sure. I wish I knew which one it was (I couldn't get a good pic with my phone, booo)'s so hard to tell when you're not exactly sure where you are and when everything's so snowy lol. It was pretty big and ended in water though, which was cool. I wanted to see more, but apparently when you fly directly to Phoenix you go over more of the ocean than land (direct to Phoenix is almost 5 hours from Anchorage). On the flight I watched Kubo and the Two Strings (very, VERY good movie) and Ice Age: Collision Course ("the ice is too icy" LOLOL)..pretty ridiculous but still amusing lol. After we landed and got the car and stuff we ate at a yummy barbecue place near Phoenix and then drove up to was cool seeing everyone's Christmas lights! Sleeping was nice lol (Also after I opened Pokemon Go at the airport like 10 Pokemon showed up at once haha..lots of Ekans and Sandshrews here lol..I got at least two new ones, yay! At the BBQ place there were two Pokestops right on top of each other! I'd never seen that before :P)

Except for going to the store, today's been pretty lazy lol. Ryan has a cold, ouch. I hope he doesn't give it to us! Being sick on vacation is awful. The weather's cloudy and it's supposed to snow this weekend..noooo, I came here to ESCAPE the snow, not find more LOL

One thing I love about coming to Payson is reading stuff I wrote when I was a kid and stuff, even if I read it last time I was here lol (dad put a box by my room that had school binders in it..pretty sure I had written on every inch of those things haha). I found a school journal entry that I have to share here:

Feelings about The Diary of Anne Frank: I learned that you should have a positive attitude no matter what situation you are in. Anne Frank always had a positive attitude. Even when she was in the concentration camps she never gave up hope that she would get out of there. While she was in hiding, she never gave up hope that they would go back to their normal lives. I think everyone needs to have a positive attitude like Anne Frank had

Wow..WOW. That's deep for a middle schooler!! I guess I got my positivity from Anne Frank then..there aren't enough "wows" in the world to describe how I felt after reading that..

lastly, some pics! )

Tomorrow mom and Ryan and I are flying to Arizona for our vacation! (The flight leaves at 7 something AM, so we have to get up early..ughhh. D:) While we're there we'll also go to Santa Fe to visit Aunt Cindy and Uncle Dean..Aunt Julie and Gina are going to meet us there too! I saw Cindy and Dean a couple years ago, but I haven't seen the other two (and Julie's children) in years! It'll be cool to see them again. I'll also see Dana again, since we'll be there at the same time! I so love that we can see each other in person more often than once every few years lol (how did dad manage to buy a house in the same town her husband's parents live in?! We'll never get over that lol). One of my favorite things about going to Payson is looking at old pics I haven't seen in years (it's weird life is so completely different now that it feels like my Texas life happened to another person, in another lifetime haha). Dad said there's lots to look through, yay! We have Internet at the house now (we can turn it off when we leave and pay like $10 a month, so that's nice). Looking forward to nice weather and more sunlight too lol. It shall be fun :D

Today's trivia: Yakutsk, Russia, is the biggest city built on continuous permafrost. Its population is almost 300,000 and its average winter temperature is (−30 °F), which makes Yakutsk the coldest city of its size or greater in the world
glacier_kitty: (explore)
Yesterday mom and I drove to was cloudy and rainy till we crossed the Alaska Range, then it got nice and sunny! We found 6 geocaches and saw a moose, which was cool. We're staying at the same bed and breakfast we stayed at when we came with Bonnie a couple years ago (they're nice, make a great breakfast, and their bathroom has very soft cushy towels and their shower is great, so we had to come back lol). I could not believe how WARM is was, in the 70s!! Valdez is never that warm it seems! We had dinner at our favorite Italian place here (we even sat outside!). There was a Pokestop there so I set a Lure and caught two new Pokemon, yay! (Tentacool and the crab with the giant claw lol.) Valdez is overrun with Drowzees too it seems. :P Another couple from Fairbanks checked in after we got back..we didn't know them, but still, small world! I also did a double-take as I thought the guy looked like an older Cherry LOL (on the boat I kept glancing at him and a picture of Cherry comparing them heh. Oops, talking about him again. :P) Sleep was nice :P

Today at breakfast we got to know the couple more..they live in Fairbanks, but they also live in Texas (they knew where Flower Mound is!), AND they were going on the same glacier cruise as us! How crazy is that?? I don't know where Weather Underground gets their forecasts from, but they were COMPLETELY wrong. 30 and 40s? No way, 70s yet again!! The sun was shining, the sky was super blue, the mountains were bathed in sunlight, and when the wind was right you felt a WARM breeze go by (Chinook or some kind of katabatic wind..I love that word lol). The cruise out to Meares Glacier was AMAZING, perfect, incredible..I was even too warm! We saw orcas, humpback whales, bald eagles, sea otters, puffins, Dall porpoises, seals, sea lions, and lots of other birds! The other people on the boat were a great group..when we were waiting for the orcas a lady was like "hereee orca orca orca!" haha. There seemed to be a lot of people from Fairbanks on the boat, and two people came up to me and said I looked familiar. When I said I worked at Forget-Me-Not Books they were like "a-ha! I knew you looked familiar!" Alaska is small apparently. :P Unakwik Inlet (where Meares Glacier is) was especially gorgeous and it smelled sooooo good, like evergreen trees. *drools* If perfection exists, Unakwik Inlet is it. It was funny..the captain was like "I bet you're wondering where the glacier is..." and then he turned the corner and was like "welcome to Meares Glacier!" and all of a sudden it was just THERE. I was like "aw YEAAAHH" haha. I was bouncing on the soles of my feet..for one since I'm short, and that's apparently what I do now when excited LOL (like when I got the Cherry book haha). I couldn't believe how blue the sky was..there were NO clouds above us at all! It's so awesome just standing under the face of a glacier (and Meares technically isn't THAT big). The glacier is still advancing slowly (you can see the trees it's pushing over!). It calved little chunks here and there, but nothing too exciting (maybe because it's a stable glacier?). Meares will always be more special since I went there with Dana a few years ago. I couldn't believe how beautiful and warm it was. I'm glad Meares Glacier didn't kill my camera this time lol (weirdly, the other two times I went to that glacier my camera died lol). Eventually we had to leave (NOOOONOOOOOONOOO *grabby hands*..I always feel that we should spend longer at the glacier since we have to get all the way out there, but time goes by super fast for me at glaciers, so it was probably longer than I think it was :P) and made our way back to Valdez. There's not enough words to describe the beauty and awesomeness of today..I feel SUPER lucky. It would be cool to live here if the weather was like this all the time! Wow. I was super excited to catch my first Pikachu on the way back to the B&B!! Woohoo!

Tomorrow we go back to's supposed to be sunny and warm again! This weather is amazing. It'll be a nice day to hike up to Worthington Glacier (we stopped there on the way, but the glacier was in the shadows and decided to hike up Monday instead when the light would be better for pics. It looked like it had receded quite a bit! Sad :(). I'll post my pics when I get back home lol. Epic trip was epic!

I love this pic of Cherry!! I had forgotten what his official role was in the expedition till I found this pic..the caption said he was the assistant zoologist. OMG that just makes me like him even more haha! I thought he was wearing his iced-up glasses, but now I'm not the pic below there's a guy wearing goggles, so maybe they're goggles instead. *shrugs* I was squeeing so much when I found this pic last night LOL (is it just me, or is he kinda short? Maybe it's his slouching? It seems like he should be taller lol)

 photo 18d98211-7ce4-41f0-8445-4c6238e3a4fc_zpsirmemwnf.jpg
Awesome group shot! I found the same pic with captions saying who everyone is, but it's too small. I saw this one first though, and correctly guessed that Cherry is the second person in back row! I could feel the Cherry Aura again haha (I'm glad his jacket is white with big pockets, that makes it easier to pick him out haha)

Tomorrow mom and I are going to Valdez! Yay, I get to talk about something other than Apsley Cherry-Garrard :P (*shivers* I LOVE TYPING HIS NAME). The forecast for Sunday when we do the glacier cruise is partly cloudy and 39 degrees..and it'll be even colder by the glacier. It says clear for Monday when we drive back..I hope it'll be nice lol

Mom and I visited Aunt Susan and Uncle Carl and their kitties today (twice in a year, woohoo!) and after we left we went to Redondo Beach. WOW it has changed! I don't even remember the last time I was there, but still. THERE WERE SO MANY PEOPLE OMG. California has gotten so crowded. :( We managed to get one geocache, so yay lol

Mom and I actually fly home tomorrow, not Tuesday. I'll be glad to get back to calm Alaska, though it was super awesome seeing Dana again <3 (best wedding ever!!). I'll post more in depth about the last couple days and more pics after I get home. I'm so glad I wasn't there this past week, it was in the high 80s and maybe ever 90s in some places!! Yikes. At least in San Diego there's air conditioning lol. I hope I see cool scenery on the flights home..

Yesterday mom and I arrived in San Diego. Our flight to Seattle was supposed to depart at 1:30 AM, but the flight with the crew were delayed in Anchorage because of a mechanical problem. A flight from Seattle was coming with crew that could go on our airplane the time we left it was around 2:30 AM and the sun was just coming up haha! The agents at the counter rebooked everyone with connecting flights before 7 AM (we were one of them). Alaska Airlines is AWESOME, seriously..they handled the situation well and we didn't have to wait ages for them to rebook us (and they weren't like "oh well, you'll just have to figure it out when you get to Seattle"). I was afraid they'd lose our luggage, but it got through just fine. The weather was mostly cloudy, but I did see the top of Mt. Hayes, Hess and Deborah. I kept falling asleep at the window haha, but I doubt I missed much. I did see a little glacier though (it was hard to tell between clouds and glaciers, but this was definitely a glacier cause I could see crevasses). Unfortunately on the rebooked flight mom and I both had middle seats..I was a little worried since last time I had a middle seat I had a huge panic attack and cried and yelled at my brother. D: I was determined not to freak out this time (and I had Xanax with me, just in case), and it worked! Sure sitting by two strangers was uncomfortable, but I got through it fine. I kept falling asleep and kept worrying that my head would fall on one of their shoulders LOL. When I woke up enough I watched some of The Finest Hours..I'll have to finish it on the flight home (I have the book too, though I haven't read it yet)

After we got our rental car and stuff, we drove to the was too early for a room to be ready, so we had lunch and found a couple geocaches, yay! (There's one like 400 some feet from the hotel lol.) The first one we looked for was HARD..we were looking for something tiny (a nano, in caching speak lol). This family saw us poking around and were like "wtf are you doing?? You look silly crawling around down there" haha. We told them we were caching and one of the kids was like "oh yeah, I found one once!" They actually helped us look for it, and one of the kids actually found it! Awesome, considering how tiny that thing was lol. And uh..I kinda downloaded Pokemon Go LOL..I've never been into Pokemon, but that game sounded like too much fun to pass up (it reminded me of geocaching haha). It is definitely addictive lol. We were so happy when our room was was so nice to take a nap and just hang out

Today we had breakfast and decided to pamper ourselves at the hotel's got a pedicure and a manicure and I just got a manicure (my first one! I feel like my feet are weird and don't really like showing them to people lol). The nail technician (yep, that was her actual title lol) was born and raised in California and loved seeing pics from Alaska and hearing moose stories and stuff (and weirdly enough, the waiting room had a picture of a glacier hanging up! Weird how glaciers follow me, even to places like Hawaii lol). After that we went to the store to get snacks and stuff and then met up with Dana for dinner, yay! We met at her house..I saw her cat Remy and started petting him but he was like "wtf who are you" and walked away (I forget that not all cats aren't like Abby and need time to get used to strangers lol). After a few minutes he came around and purred and was loving our attention..he even let me pick him up, which Dana said he doesn't usually do..he knows cat lovers when he sees them. ;) Her other cat Indra doesn't like strangers at all, so we just had to admire her from a distance haha. We had a lovely dinner at a Mexican restaurant..Dana's been busy with wedding stuff, so she was very happy to have down time. We're gonna see her on Friday for her rehearsal dinner too, so that'll be cool. After that we drove back to the hotel (weird driving in the dark!) and now we're relaxing. Tomorrow we have to shop for clothes and shoes for the wedding..ugh. D: I hope I find something I like, it's hard to shop for clothes nowadays..

I know I keep mentioning this, but I keep realizing how much I was struggling to function before I started taking Prozac. Before when I would see Dana I couldn't look her in the face for whatever reason, but this time I was able to without feeling super anxious. I feel like I can talk and joke around with ease and not sit there and just like..retreat into myself? It's hard to I just felt dead inside or something. I'm pretty sure last year was the worst year of my life. Prozac has literally given me my life back, and it's AMAZING. To everyone struggling with depression, don't give up! You WILL find something that helps you <3

Tonight (well, technically tomorrow morning lol) I start on my journey to San Diego! Dana ([ profile] foxydanish) is getting married on Saturday..I'm so excited, I'm getting butterflies and I'm not even the one getting married haha. Mom and I are going a few days early (it's too long of a journey from Alaska to just go for a couple days)..I also can't wait to find my first California geocache and get my digital souvenir. Maybe we'll go to some museums and the beach and stuff too. We come back home Tuesday night. I hope I see some glaciers to or from Seattle! It's gonna be weird having it get dark at night there haha (most Alaskan statement ever :P)

Name your first crush (if you are comfortable doing so) )

Today's trivia: The words sung at the beginning of The Lion King are Zulu for "Here comes a lion, father" and "Oh, yes, it's a lion"

Before going to the airport, everyone had time to have breakfast together. Susan said she was so happy to see us again and was crying when we had to say goodbye. She hugged me and told me I'm such a sweet girl. Mom said she wanted to stay longer by ourselves so we could geocache more and stuff..that would have been nice, but I couldn't really handle the sun and heat and humidity anymore lol. Mom and I did manage to find two geocaches on the way to the airport, which was nice. I guess nine total is better than none lol. Even if I was tired of the sun, it was still sad to leave lol. I hope there's less drama when I see everyone next time (yeah right :P). Thankfully the flight to Seattle was shorter than when we left from there, 5 hours and some minutes. This time I watched Avengers: Age of Ultron (OMG I love the humor in those movies haha) and National Treasure: Secret of the Tomb (LOL at the lady playing Candy Crush on her computer). We got back to Fairbanks pretty was nice to sleep lol

Here are more pics, though I haven't uploaded all of them yet:

I am in Hawaii! The redeye flight to Seattle was faster than normal (the pilot was proud of that I think lol)..we got there at like 4 or 5 AM..ugh, being awake that early is the worst. D: We had breakfast and hung around for a few hours till our next flight left. The plane was too heavy and they were begging for volunteers to go on a later flight (as far as I know, only one person volunteered and they needed 8 altogether). Later we learned they had moved some luggage to a different flight..luckily ours came, but jeez, they should tell you that BEFORE you even take off!! There was a lady traveling with her cat, which I had to say hi to hehe. That flight must have been one of the LONGEST I've ever been felt never ending!! When I'd already watched a movie and thought we'd been in the air 2-3 hours I asked a flight attendant how much longer we had..she was like "a long time still, 3 or 4 more hours!" Ughhh. I watched He Named Me Malala..she is so amazing..she said she has no ounce of hatred for the Taliban that shot She seems funny and has a great relationship with her family. I also watched Inside started out funny and seemed interesting, but then it just got weird lol. It kinda weirded me out how Riley looked so much like me haha. I probably could have watched another movie too, but I was too tired and wanted to save some for the trip back. Mom and I were so happy when they announced they were serving Mai Tais haha..I'd never had one before, it was pretty good! The line for the bathroom was pretty crazy too..everyone seemed to get up at once and we were always having to squeeze past everyone..a flight attendant said the "waste" was full before we lol. I was so happy to finally land in Kona..phew! It was kinda weird seeing family I hadn't seen in ages..Susan, Carl, Jack, Patty and Danny are here so far. Carl's hair is longer than mine, and with his beard he looks so much like dad! After we got settled I had to take a nap and now we're just relaxing. It is SUPER windy here today..makes for good white noise though. Now time to find a Jacuzzi and then bed! I wonder what we're gonna do tomorrow..
glacier_kitty: (switzerland)
I am home, I got back last night. We were able to get 8 geocaches before turning in the rental car..we found 56 during the trip, nice! One thing I noticed was all the dogs in the airports..there were at least two or three on each flight. Dad said he noticed that too last time he weird! It must be a new trend or something lol. One dog barked some on the flight, but I'd much rather hear that than a screaming baby (and we had plenty of those, ugh). It was cool seeing Flagstaff, Sunset Crater and the Grand Canyon after we took off from Phoenix. The red rocks in the canyon looked beautiful in the sunlight. It felt great going back to work today (even if I felt like a zombie when I woke up haha). I love that everyone is always genuinely happy to see me when I come back <3 (Abby was happy to see me too hehe)

Today's trivia: Eugenie Mikhailovna Shakhovskaya was the first female military pilot in 1914 during World War I
glacier_kitty: (kitty - fence)
Yesterday we decided to take a road trip to the Grand Canyon, though we decided to stay the night at Flagstaff (a couple hours from Payson) so we'd have time to geocache and stuff. We found 10 geocaches, which is pretty awesome lol. When we got to Flagstaff we got a hotel room, went to Barnes and Noble, and had dinner at Olive Garden, yay!

Today's first stop was at Walnut Canyon, where a bunch of Native American cliff dwellings are. Unlike at Montezuma Castle, you could go in to some of the rooms there. You could see dark spots on the walls from their fires. You could see more dwellings on the other side of the canyon where there wasn't a trail. Wow..that must have been an interesting life. I thought it would be awful walking back up the canyon since it's at over 6000 feet, but it wasn't that bad since we went slow. Next we went to Sunset Crater, an old cinder cone (there were a bunch of other cinder cones around too). You could walk around the old lava flows by the Crater..weird, it kinda felt like we were in Hawaii haha. Next was a stop at Wupatki National Monument, which has a bunch of old Native American pueblos. We stopped at the biggest, most intact one..weird they built their homes in the middle of nowhere in the desert lol. It must have been hard work dragging all those rocks to build their home! After that we continued to the Grand Canyon. We saw some kind of cat cross the road! It may have been a bobcat since it didn't have a tail. We saw another javelina too! I hadn't been to the Grand Canyon since elementary school, so it was cool to see it again. It's definitely one of the most amazing things I've ever seen..amazing how a river carved all that. All the colors in the rocks are pretty too. I was definitely hungry so we had dinner and found our hotel. We're gonna stay tomorrow night too. I'm tired after being so busy all day, it's nice to relax lol (I think we found 5 caches today, must keep our streak going lol)

Yesterday we finally arrived at Payson. On the redeye flight to Seattle I watched American Sniper and on the flight to Phoenix I read, dozed and did a crossword. I do NOT like the airport at seems outdated and disorganized. The drive to Payson is nice and interesting, though kinda painful when you're tired lol. The weather was beautiful, nice and sunny! We at at Chili's when we got to Payson and took a much needed nap when we got to the house and just relaxed online (mom said it was weird not having cats trying to crawl all over us haha). We recently switched to Verizon and got new phones, so the service is sooo much faster than the just Alaska company we had before. I can go online through the hotspot on mom's phone, and that is so much faster too. I'm glad I don't have to go to Safeway or the library for fast Internet lol

Today we had lunch, found a couple caches and stocked up on food. It's Alaska you open the outside door into an enclosed entrance before opening the door to go inside (it's to keep the cold air from getting inside). When we walked into the restaurant I was expecting to open another door before going inside, and it felt weird to just automatically be inside haha. Today is another nice day..I hope the sunsets are as nice as they were last time I was here!

Since I'll be traveling to Payson tomorrow, here's the books I read in November:

Making Rounds with Oscar: The Extraordinary Gift of an Ordinary Cat by David Dosa (Nov 2-5)
Shelf Life: Romance, Mystery, Drama, and Other Page-Turning Adventures from a Year in a Bookstore by Suzanne Strempek Shea (Nov 5-10)
Dewey's Nine Lives: The Legacy of the Small-Town Library Cat Who Inspired Millions by Vicki Myron (Nov 11-18)
The Horse Boy: A Father's Quest to Heal His Son by Rupert Isaacson (Nov 18-25)

Tonight I start on the journey to Payson! It's supposed to be in the 50s and 60s this week, so that'll be nice. Too bad I'm gonna miss work's Christmas party and the geocaching Christmas party though..they're both so fun! I can't wait to see Dana! I'll update when I can :)

Dana and her fiance Matt are going in December too, so she invited us to come if we wanted to (it's still so crazy to me that we bought a house in the town Matt's family lives in haha!). I haven't seen Dana in person in a few years, so it'll be cool to see her again and finally meet Matt. Yay!

On Thursday the weather turned on us, so we decided not to go to Valdez..we stayed at Copper Center instead. Still a long drive, but from there it was still over 100 miles to Valdez (you had to cross the Glenn Highway so you could get to the Richardson Highway, where Valdez is). It was cool seeing Matanuska Glacier again. The place we stayed at was a trailer where the inside looked like we had been transported back to the 70s, but at least it was a place to sleep :P

Yesterday we drove home! I was definitely road tripped out haha. It rained almost the whole way, ugh. We finally saw two more moose..considering how many miles we covered, it's surprising we didn't see more wildlife! We covered a lot of the state, from Barrow all the way down to It was nice sleeping in my own bed again :P

Yesterday the flightseeing tour took us up close and personal to Mt. was so cool seeing all the volcanoes I've heard about (Redoubt, Augustine, etc). It was so clear you could see Kodiak Island, 100 miles away!! Wow. Iliamna is a dormant volcano, but you could still see steam coming out of different! It was definitely heavily glaciated..I wanted to go all the way around the volcano and see the glaciers on that side, but we didn't. After getting an eyeful of Iliamna lol we descended to a river delta and saw lots of bears! They were probably eating lots of fish lol. What a beautiful day for flightseeing! After that we looked in shops and had dinner and looked in even more shops lol. It's always nice to relax after a busy day :P

Today we drove to was still a nice day, but I could tell the weather was changing cause clouds were coming in. I'm so glad we had a few days of nice weather though. After shopping (my debit card feels tired. :P lol) and dinner we had fun watching the sea otters in the harbor! They're so cute lol. There were also some really red cool. I want to post my pics, but the Internet is kinda slow where we're staying. Tomorrow we drive to Valdez..that's gonna be a loooong's 423 miles from here. D: Good thing I keep buying books :P

Yesterday we drove to was sooo cold and windy..ugh. Our hotel suite is AWESOME's more like an apartment! I think after we settled in we looked in a couple shops, had dinner (best sourdough bread EVER *drools*) and then relaxed at the hotel

Today the weather was even worse than yesterday..cold, windy, rainy and, a full on snowstorm. Ugh wtf. We still went hiking at Savage River (mom and I hiked there before, it's really pretty). It was a two mile hike round-trip. It's amazing how much my special shoes help when I hike now..I don't feel like I'm flailing and tripping all the time (mom noticed too!). I'm amazed just a pair of shoes helps my ankle problems! On the drive back to the hotel we saw two moose! A lot of people got out of their car to take pictures, which isn't really a good idea, especially if it's a mom and her calf! I wasn't even comfortable being that close in the car..eesh. You could definitely tell the mama moose was alert and a little stressed. We had lunch at the hotel, went to a bunch of the shops (I got a really cool opal vein rock!!), had dinner (the snow was REALLY coming down now), looked in more shops and now we're relaxing

Tomorrow we're going to Girdwood and staying at a ski resort (mom and I stayed there once a few years ago). The forecast says it's supposed to be CLEAR down there and other places we want to go to down south. It BETTER be, I am soooo tired of the rain and cold. I don't know what is up with the weather in the Interior, but I can't wait to get out of it and see the sun!!

We're back from was even windier and colder today than it was yesterday. I got a glimpse of the Brooks Range through the clouds on the flight back to Fairbanks. Here are pics:

Yesterday we started the journey to Barrow..for some reason, we had to fly to Anchorage first..that makes no sense at all haha. Later in the flight we were told we had to divert to Deadhorse because the visibility was too low in Barrow to land. It was cool to see Deadhorse and Prudhoe Bay..I felt like I had seen a couple of the buildings on Ice Road Truckers haha. We waited on the plane..and waited..we were there at least two hours, probably more. I finished an entire book haha (my 45th!! I've made my goal for this year already!!). Eventually we were told we had to go back to Anchorage because they closed the runway cause of construction or something..and visibility may have still been bad anyway. We were all just like "NOOOO!" haha. Thankfully the flight was only an hour and 30 minutes both ways..we got back to Anchorage at midnight. Thankfully they rebooked everyone for the next morning at 10. We found a hotel (we could have stayed at the airport I guess, but no way..I already had a migraine and we'd be too tired to enjoy Barrow anyway), probably the seediest one I've ever stayed at (it's at the top of the list anyway). O_o As Brenda said, "it was one step up from 'I ain't staying here!'" The beds seemed free of bugs, which was really all that mattered. It was so nice to finally sleep lol

Today we finally got in to Barrow! (I saw some mountains and glaciers poking up from the clouds, yay!) Barrow is one of the most depressing, desolate and muddy places I've ever been to. It's super flat and VERY windy (there are no trees or mountains or anything for many miles, so there's nothing to break the wind). The wind made it so cold haha. After getting checked in to the hotel we took a tour of Barrow, which was cool. Our tour guide was an Inupiat Eskimo and told us how he harpooned a whale (they have to so they can feed their families, and he said they feel no pain). He knew about geocaching, so we got a few, including the northernmost one in the US!! Yay, now we have the northernmost and southernmost geocache in the US. :D We also got to stand at Point Barrow, the northernmost point in the US..awesome! I also noticed the weather changed CONSTANTLY..there'd be some sun and blue sky and like a minute later there would be fog and weird haha. It was cool seeing the different landmarks, like old sod houses and stuff. After the tour we walked to the store and back..sooo coldd omg. I was so happy to relax at the hotel after that and eat dinner haha. Now I'm gonna take a nice warm shower and relax in bed :D
