Lizzy, my DVR counselor, called to tell me I have been working for 90 days (!) and she was gonna close my file (I guess the 90 days is to see if you like the job and stuff). I can always go back and reopen the file and she said I can still call her if I have questions. Cool! Becky said I "graduated" when I told her haha. Now I can go over to Nina's house and watch Game of Thrones with her since she's not my job coach anymore haha. That'll be fun :D

Ughh it's already getting dark..the sun will set soon, at 3:55. Mom and I like to geocache after I get off work..it'll be harder now :( (we've cached in the dark before, it's not as fun though)

next meme: what ifs )

Today's trivia: Florida's Lake Okeechobee is about half the size of Rhode Island, though its average depth is only 9 feet
glacier_kitty: (mountains - aerial 2)
I GOT THE JOB!! Mike said he was proud of how much I've grown and was very happy to hire me. This is a dream of six years come true..getting paid by the Literacy Council itself! OMG so happy haha. My main duties will be answering the phones, cashiering/helping customers and training/working with volunteers..and I can still volunteer and clean books and stuff. How perfect is that?? It's 10 hours a week and $9 an hour (Mike said at my review in December I can ask for a raise though haha). I start August 1. The other new Bookstore Associate started today too..she seems really nice! Mom and Nina were both super happy for me (I'm so glad Nina helped me get it!). YAY :D :D

18. Do you drink soda more often than milk? )

Today's trivia: When a male honeybee climaxes during sex, his testicles explode and he dies

You Have Stable Toes

Your feet are firmly planted on the ground. You don't waver on much in your life, and you stand firm in what you believe in.
You are rational and logical. Emotions don't sway you, but a well reasoned argument may just change your mind.

You deal with stress successfully, and you can put almost anything in perspective. Very little rattles you.
You accept people and events as they are. You don't waste energy trying to change things that are out of your control.

My toes thank thee for the compliment..haha

Today I volunteered at the library again..I looked up DVDs to see if they were already in the catalog and dusted picture frames. Nina said Anne (the volunteer coordinator person) really likes me..that's good haha

15. Tell us your favorite junk food )

Today's trivia: The tall chef's hat is called a toque
glacier_kitty: (mountains - blue sky)
Ugh, I've been sick the last two days. I probably caught it at work. I spent a lot of the day yesterday in bed. Though eventually I had to get out cause it makes me crazy being stuck inside. Mom came over and we found a couple geocaches and went out to dinner. I was wiped when I got home so I went to bed SUPER early..like 7 or even earlier. I still didn't feel super great today but I went to work for awhile anyway..I hated the thought of being stuck inside again! I've been taking lots of vitamin c and stuff, so I hope it goes away quickly..

Krystin's leaving (*tear*) and going back to school so the bookstore has two positions open for bookstore manager..so I applied. I may not know how to do everything, but like Nina and mom said, I've already overcome so much (like being terrified of the cash register but loving it now)..I could probably learn it easily. Plus finally being a true paid employee of the bookstore? Heck yeah! We'll see what happens..

5. Tell us your three favorite colors )

Today's trivia: New Zealand was the first country to allow women to vote, in 1893
glacier_kitty: (trojan)
Today I turned 25..wow, I'm old haha. Crazy how fast time goes by. I got an Amazon gift card from Dana, $50 from grandpa, Barnes and Noble gift cards from Aunt Gina and Nina, geocaching stuff from mom, a call from Aunt Julie and lots of love haha. The weather seems to be nice so far..maybe we'll go caching again. Mom said she was 25 when she met dad..that's weird to think about haha

Mom and I signed up for summer BOW (Becoming an Outdoor Woman) in August. We haven't been in like 3 years (and only once at the summer one) so it was time to go again haha. I'm taking Wild Edibles, Survival, Track & Sign and Birding in Alaska. One of our geocaching friends is going too..should be fun!

DAY 4: Favorite pizza place )
glacier_kitty: (winter lake 2)
Today was my first day volunteering at the library. They didn't have much, so they just had me mark off the library stamp on the books they don't want anymore (I hope that permanent marker didn't kill any brain cells haha..everyone who walked by was like "WHOA" haha. Nina was like "don't mind us if we start babbling" :P). Nina said it was really to see if I would like working there. I guess it seems ok. There's another cart of those books to mark out, so I'm going back tomorrow to finish them (I may need an oxygen mask though :P)

Day 26-An Insect you would like to spend a day as )

Today's trivia: Montpelier, Vermont is the only U.S. state capital without a McDonald's

Aw I love these pics of Abby hehe <3

a couple more )

Today Nina and I met with my new DVR counselor, Lizzy. She seems calmer and less bubbly than Michele. We talked about doing a trial work experience at the library after I get back from vacation. If I don't like it I don't have to stay..might as well try it..

Day 25: Five people you talk to on a regular basis )

Would you rather have a mouse run up your pants leg or a wasp get caught inside your shirt? The mouse

Today's trivia: In all of history, only 165,000 metric tons of gold have been mined, enough to fill 3.42 Olympic sized swimming pools
glacier_kitty: (mountains - sunset 2)
Today I had an interview/meeting with the manager at Cold Spot Feeds (a pet store) to see if I could do a work assessment or something there (I went with Nina of course). The manager was really nice, but he said there's a LOT of info you need to know and there could be lots of customers needing your attention at once and stuff. He said it was challenging and people have literally quit on the spot. Well..that's scary haha. I think we might do a 4 hour job try to see how I like it (the manager has to talk to the owners first). No harm in trying anyway (unless a dog bites me..haha). Nina's also gonna call Petco and see what they have to say..

13. A .gif of an actor )

Would you rather cause a car accident because you were staring at the butt of a sexy pedestrian or have an uninsured driver hit you? The second one

Today's trivia: Jack Nicholson was raised by his grandparents and thought his mother was his sister. He didn't find out the truth until a Time magazine reporter did an investigation in 1974 and exposed the lie
glacier_kitty: (kitty - fence)
Yesterday was the annual Volunteer Appreciation Picnic for work. For once the weather was nice..the wind made it chilly, but usually it's cloudy and cold and blah. We had food and then Mike (the Executive Director) handed out the three awards we always give. He got to the second one and said it was the Betsy Robertson award, which is for someone who has made a big contribution to the Literacy Council (I've met Betsy, she's a judge at the Biz Bee and very nice). I was looking around wondering which person had donated money to the Literacy Council (that's who it usually goes to). Then Mike started saying "the award is going to a young lady who has volunteered here many years. She always comes in in the morning with a smile on her face and I always know what the weather is like outside." I was like "that sounds like me! But it can't be me!" Mike said other nice things I can't remember (good thing mom filmed it!) and then said "the award goes to Heather Moritz!" I was like "ME?!!" That was a COMPLETE surprise haha! Becky said the look on my face was priceless and that alone was worth coming to the event. :P I went up and people took pics of Mike and I. People were cheering and clapping like crazy!! My face was probably so red haha. As I went to sit down Mike was like "if you want to know about glaciers or where the best smoothies in town are talk to Heather!" I'm amazed they kept it so secret..mom and Nina had already known! (I was wondering why she said "I have to be beautiful for my daughter on her special day!" when I asked why she was wearing makeup. I was like "huh??" haha) I never expected to get an award! I love the Literacy Council, they are so awesome. <3 So many nice surprises lately!

pics! )

Would you rather eat a handful of chicken feathers or five tablespoons of frog eggs? The eggs?

Today's trivia: In ancient Egypt, embalmed mice and saucers of milk were placed in tombs with mummified cats
glacier_kitty: (trojan)
Today I had lunch with Nina (she told me what questions to expect and stuff), went home and changed (I haven't worn a skirt in years haha) and then she drove me to the interview. It was a group interview..there were maybe 6 or 7 people there besides me. That helped take some pressure off, but some people wouldn't stop talking! Haha. It seems like it would be a nice place to work. I guess I did ok..I had good answers in my head but when I went to say them my brain just died. I think I still got my point across though. I felt like the other people had better answers than me. :P They asked questions like "name a bad customer service experience, and how you resolved it" and "what does good customer service mean to you?" They said they'll decide who to hire by Wednesday..they'll call you if you do get hired. I kinda want it, but then I won't be at Forget Me Not Books as often. :( It was gonna happen eventually, but still. I'll still try to go in though. I'm tired and drained now haha..I told mom I needed a drink :P

Grandpa gave me $100 for my birthday (tomorrow!). He's so generous!

Yesterday I met with Michelle and Nina and we talked about my depression and school and stuff. She said it takes awhile to get into the Behavioral Health Center, so she recommended a counselor that she knew was very good. We called her..her name is Cathy and she sounded SUPER nice! She's also very interactive which I think I need..my other counselor wasn't really..I felt like something was missing in her sessions. We made an appointment for the 11th..yayy. Michelle said DVR will pay for it since there's an immediate need and she knows Cathy is a good counselor. AWESOME haha. Hopefully counseling and Wellbutrin will make me feel better!

Ever since I went to Hawaii I've wanted the pillows the hotel used since they were amazingly comfortable (I wrote down the brand so I could find them). I finally got paid yesterday so I went to the site and bought two of them! For some reason the shipping or whatever was $40.00. O_o I figured it was worth it though since I can't get it out of my head haha

The volcanoes professor emailed everyone with our exam scores..I got a 96!! Apparently the average exam grade was 75 (Ryan got an 86). I AM AWESOME. Haha. I'm excited to see what my overall class grade is..

Today I had a meeting with a geology adviser (with mom and Nina of course) about majoring in Geology and classes to take and stuff. There definitely is math involved, but both mom and Nina think I can do it..and there's no point in taking an easier degree if I want to be a glaciologist. The adviser said I can just register for classes since I haven't declared a major yet. So I think I'm gonna take English, developmental math and a geology class (if there's room anyway). I'm also gonna fill out the paper to declare a major (she said it takes awhile to get the signatures and stuff though). Sweeeet

112. Confusion )
glacier_kitty: (luca - cave)
So begins a looong 4 day weekend..hopefully I won't get too bored. :P There's cats to pet, movies to watch, food to eat, walks to go on, games to play, my volcanoes essay to write..boredom is not allowed :P

Today Nina met with me and we looked at the requirements for a BA in Geography..we mapped out the first classes I need to take and on Monday she's gonna call about an adviser so I can declare a major. Cooool. I think I'm gonna take an English class next semester since a lot of the classes list that as a prerequisite. I'd be so lost without Nina..

So..I applied for food stamps. I really didn't want to cause it has such a negative connotation but Nina eventually convinced me (she called it a food gift card haha). Plus it's just till I get a steady income. I'm still embarrassed though. I think I'm gonna get $19 a month. I can save the money on the card too..it doesn't go away after the month's over. Hopefully it'll help me be a little less broke by the end of the month haha (or better yet, that I get a job :P). I hope you don't judge me too harshly :/

I'm going to Denali tomorrow! We were originally gonna go today but mom checked the forecast and Monday looked much better. It's supposed to be partly cloudy and 70..nicee. We're gonna drive down tomorrow and hopefully do a bus tour on Monday. I better see the mountain this time ;)

Day 85: A picture of your favorite drink )
glacier_kitty: (glaciers <3)
Today Nina and I went up to the university and I got a Polar Card..it's an ID you can put money on and you can ride the bus free with it! Sweeet haha. We also had made an appointment to talk to the Introduction to Field Methods in Glaciology professor (Joseph Kennedy). We went to the wrong building at first haha but after asking someone we found it (the Geophysical Institute). I loveee that building..we went to the 4th floor and I was just like *is dead* It was the GLACIOLOGY floor with pics of glaciers and stuff..SQUEE. (Can I live there?? Please?? Haha) We found Joseph in the GLACIOLOGY OFFICE..best office ever!!! He was really nice. We talked in a meeting room where the slide machine was called Hubbard Glacier..LOVE it haha. He said there would be math but I wouldn't have to go past calculus..I could major in geology or geophysics and still work with glaciers. I could even work on projects with the glaciologists and get my PhD. WANT. Joseph said in the class we'd walk on the glacier and measure how deep it is and map the front of it and stuff. OMG AWESOME..I'm gonna LOVE this class haha. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to be a glaciologist and work at the Geophysical Institute..I'm honored to do it at UAF too. It's like one of the best places to study glaciers..you can go in the field so easily. I'M SO EXCITED OMG!!!! *major squee*

It's SUPER nice out..66 and sunny and it's supposed to stay that way. It's days like this that make you forget it can be -40. The Alaska Range looked awesome <3

Day 11: A picture of your favorite band or artist )

Would you rather have a butt full of worms or a mouthful of ticks? Ewww

Today's trivia: Nectarines are simply peaches with a smooth skin. They can spontaneously arise from a peach tree
glacier_kitty: (anatoli boukreev 2)
Today Nina and I dropped my applications off at Barnes and Noble and Gulliver's. Now I just have to wait haha. There's a new Japanese restaurant next to B&N and Nina wanted to see what it looked like..and ended up taking food home for dinner haha

The trees and hills are getting GREEN. That makes me super happy haha

Day 4: A picture of your best friend(s) )

Would you rather as a man, have your testicles eaten off by a squirrel or your eyeballs pecked out by a bird? Wow D:

Today's trivia: The average cat has a total of 24 whiskers

High Exposure: An Enduring Passion for Everest and Unforgiving Places by David Breashears (Apr 2-29)
Heresy by SJ Parris (2011-Apr 16)
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins (Apr 17-18)
Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins (Apr 22-23)

I read a lot this month haha. I HATED the last two Hunger Games books though..they were so depressing and I was glad there were only three

Today I went with Nina to meet the disability person at the university. She provides you with services..like a note taker and advises the teachers of what you need and stuff. She basically said I shouldn't become a glaciologist cause it would be "too hard" cause of the math and recommended a science writer or something. Gee thanks..that really upset me. I want to be a glaciologist so bad..blah

It's been SNOWING and in the 30s today. Nice..guess May means nothing in Alaska :P

Day 95 - Something yellow )

Would you rather be on vacation with your 60 year old parents and have your mom insist on wearing a thong bikini or have your dad insist on wearing a tiny, Euro style bikini bathing suit? LOL..maybe dad wearing it haha

Today's trivia: There are more than 40,000 different varieties of rice
glacier_kitty: (electric guitar)

LOVE it haha! Edguy is so funny. :P Is it just me or does Tobi as Robin Hood look like Heath Ledger?

Awesome!! \m/ Iced Earth's new singer is awesome so far (and yummy!). The band looks strong in this video. It seems like they change their singer on every album haha

Today Nina came over and talked to me about options (since I was so upset last week). She said I don't HAVE to get a job..like I could volunteer and go to school or work and volunteer too. She wants what I want. I feel soo much better..what would I do without her??

Day 8- A picture of the best moment of your life )

Would you rather have to dangle from a 1,000 foot cliff on a rope tied to a tree and choose to tie the knot yourself or trust an Eagle Scout with a knot tying merit badge to tie it? Well obviously the second one haha

Today's trivia: There are at least 34 shark species in the Gulf of Mexico
glacier_kitty: (night sky 2)
I've been soo stressed lately..the AmeriCorps term ending in April, the class yesterday, annoying stuff online, the weather, etc. Last night it all built up and I just couldn't handle it..I went to bed at 9:30 cause I just didn't want to be awake anymore. I threw my clothes on the floor, didn't brush my teeth..just managed to close the blinds, take melatonin and turn on my electric blanket. You know I'm upset when I don't read before bed. I didn't really feel better when I woke up this morning either..I was SO tense and needed to talk to someone. Eventually I called mom at work and talked to her and just started crying. Ugh..I hate crying at work haha. Luckily the heater fan was on which is pretty loud (seriously, I feel deaf cause someone can be talking to me in a normal voice and I'm like "huh??" haha). I asked her if she could get off work and go to lunch with me and she did. I also called Nina and canceled the class today cause I just couldn't do it. She understood and said I should see my counselor again..could be a good idea. It definitely helped being with mom. That and crying made me feel better. My mom is awesome haha. I hate being stressed..

Eww..when I get to work after walking outside I smell like smoke and ice fog. Grosss..

new meme..another picture one! cause they're the best ;) )

Would you rather fall through the toilet hole in an outhouse or be temporarily trapped beneath a pile of dead animals? D:

Today's trivia: Twister was the first movie released on DVD
glacier_kitty: (glacier - margerie 2)
Today I went to a resume writing workshop with Nina. Wow..there's a lot of stuff you need to know! It's like you have to get it exactly right or the employer won't look at it haha. The teacher gave us homework for tonight so tomorrow we can start writing our resumes and so she can edit it if she needs to. I'm glad I'm not doing this on my own :P

Day 200- A picture of you showing how happy you are to have completed the 200 Day Challenge )

Omg I can't believe the meme is over..someone needs to make another one that epic haha

Would you rather make your living by manufacturing sex toys or guns? Guns..you never said they couldn't be fake ;)

Today's trivia: In 1910, a movie ticket cost 7 cents
