Hi from New Mexico! On Monday we drove was finally a beautiful day, yay! Ryan was all stressing out and saying how he had to ~talk to people~ if he went and irritating, ugh. He's not the best person to travel with, but he has ended up having a great time so far I think (shh don't tell him though ;)). On the way we stopped at the Painted Desert and the Petrified Forest..such beautiful and interesting places! We just continued on to Santa Fe after was so nice seeing everyone again!! The last time I saw my cousin Joelle (almost 10 years ago) she was like one or two years old and now she's 13! She said she didn't remember me, but that's alright, she was too young lol (Jessalyn said she remembered me though). Cindy and Dean made margaritas and Gina was like "I am SO happy you can drink with us now, I've been waiting years for this!" I felt the same way haha, it was nice lol. We had dinner and talked and I think just went to bed (it's been a busy few days, it's hard to remember everything haha)

Tuesday was a beautiful day, so we went hiking at Tent Rocks, which is a slot canyon with formations from volcanic eruptions. It was my first time in a slot canyon, and it was AWESOME. It was so cool!! I'll describe it more with my pics (easier lol). Very unique! After that we hung out at the house and then went to dinner at a Mexican restaurant that (except for the chips) wasn't very good at, we're in New Mexico! Mexican food in *Fairbanks* is better than the food at that restaurant! Ew. After that we looked at the Christmas lights downtown (pretty!) and went home and did our White Elephant (we also called it Dirty Santa haha) gift exchange. Funnn..there's been LOTS of laughing these past few days lol. I stole this glowstick thingy, a tiara and chocolate covered cherries from mom ("CHERRY!!" *hugs it*). Gina called me Queen Cherry haha (yep, everyone knows all about Cherry now LOL). After that we decorated gingerbread cookies and went to bed (so tired!! Having fun is exhausting :P)

yesterday, and pics under here! )

And here's me reciting (from memory!) the last passage (one of the best) of The Worst Journey in the World! I hope I don't look dumb, but I think it's pretty good myself ;)

One thing I've learned when going through stuff in the garage: we never threw ANYTHING away..I've found price tags, empty boxes, and we still have our baby clothes and toys! Wow lol. It's interesting to see my old journals and schoolwork and stuff, but it's also..strange. A lot of projects I don't even remember doing. When I was bored in class I wrote out entire scenes from Lord of the Rings from memory. I must have driven my teachers crazy with my obsessions with Scotland, LOTR, Viggo Mortensen, etc..I constantly mentioned them. I found one of my swords though, which was pretty awesome. It's just WEIRD seeing all this stuff again lol

I get to see Dana tomorrow, yay! It's also supposed to snow..not fairrr lol

I'm loving the LJ Revival!! I'm always worried it'll shut down and I'll lose all the memories from here, so I'm glad people are rediscovering it!

Abby's scared of the vacuum too, though she hasn't tried to destroy it yet :P

One of my cousins from California was in Fairbanks this weekend (briefly anyway)..I didn't even know till I saw his Facebook pics. It would have been cool to see him, but he didn't have enough time I don't think. He saw the Northern Lights too, nice! I asked mom to guess who was here and she was like:

Mom: Obama
Me: No
Mom: TRUMP??
Me: Nope
Mom: Hillary??
Me: Nope
Mom: Cherry!

LOL..if only that could happen..(I seriously think we would have gotten along so well..I was born in the wrong era :( *sniff*)

Ughhh I have to go to the dentist tomorrow. D: The hygienist is going to get onto me again about the medicine (Prozac) that makes my mouth dry. I'd rather have a dry mouth than depression, and I'm not going through the switching process all over again, especially since Prozac works so well! Hopefully she'll understand..

Today was International EarthCache Day, and you got a digital souvenir if you found one today. Mom and I went to the one at the Chena Flood Control dam..that was cool, I'd never seen it before! (They had to close the gates at least 2 or 3 times this summer so the river wouldn't flood Fairbanks.) It was a beautiful day, and warm for October! Amazing there's no snow on the ground (there's none in the forecast either). There's lots of geocaches in that area (a group put out 100 caches around Chena Lakes!), so we looked for more..I haven't logged them all yet, but I found at least 10 or 11 (too bad mom already had some of them lol). The trails around the river are beautiful. :) Yay, nice day lol

Now Fabio Lione and Alex Holzwarth have left Rhapsody of Fire..well there goes my desire to listen to their new stuff anymore. It's just NOT the same without Luca and Fabio. I never got to see them in concert either. :( I hope Fabio will continue to sing, he has such a great voice! I'm also REALLY glad all this didn't happen in like 2005 or 2006 when I was obsessed with them..I would have been a crying mess! Still sad though :(

Day 5: Post a picture of you on holiday )
glacier_kitty: (apsley cherry-garrard)
I apologize in advance for the craziness of this post, but OMGOMG I just came across some pics of Cherry I've never seen before (they were taken by a different photographer, not Ponting..somehow I missed them even though the photo collections are on the same website)

 photo p54-16-345-img_zpsp042uatk.jpg
A PICTURE OF EXISTS WITH HIM WEARING GLASSES OMG. I am completely freaking out right now OMG lol. You don't know how badly I've been wanting to find a pic of him wearing glasses!! And check out that smile! *swoons* I haven't looked through all the pictures from this other guy's pics, but here are a few more of Cherry I found so far (so happy they were on the very first page!)

yay new pics of cherry! )

Well that made my day/week/year LOL. Mom and I also found a few geocaches today, so that was cool too. Now I need to calm down so I can sleep LOL (at least I'll think happy thoughts before bed :P)

My dad built me three bookshelves (thanks!!) so I took my books that were on the "to read" shelf in my room before and put them on the floor (one shelf isn't quite ready and the other two have to set or something). I knew I had a lot of books to read, but I didn't realize it was THAT many. O_o When the shelves are ready I'm gonna go through and donate ones I don't need/want anymore (mom said we're gonna have a book shelving party haha). Dad is awesome for doing that, I've needed new bookshelves for a long time lol (he can build ones that are way better than what you can get at the store)

Today's counseling session was so fun lol. Of course I was talking about Cherry and he was like "I bet you have a Cherry picture stash on your computer!" Why, yes I do LOL.."Cherry Picture Stash" sounds so cool haha. He said I need to practice Mountain Meditation again since I've been having trouble sleeping and since the changing of the seasons has a big effect on me. I'm glad I've been seeing my doctors regularly and that they care so much about me..I never want my depression to be as out of control as it was last year!

A volunteer brought in some forget-me-not for the bookstore ( is Forget-Me-Not Books LOL), and I think that's the first time I've seen it up close! Considering it's our state flower, it should be everywhere :P

Today mom and I went to the Visitor Center and caught a TON of Pokemon! We've had good luck there's my favorite place to catch them since there's so many and the Lures get activated there a lot. I loved listening to the other people playing too ("Horsea again??"), it's so amusing! I caught at least four new ones, and like a ton of Drowzees lol. It's also a very nice evening, so enjoyable! We also went to dinner with Ingrid! Yay, fun day :D

I felt bad for both the cat and the fish in this one lol

Mom got back from hiking the Chilkoot Trail with Bonnie this looked gorgeous and mom said she saw lots of glaciers, but that's too much hiking for me lol (33 miles). It's a great accomplishment though, especially at 61 years old! She lost her phone in a river (D:), but luckily she was able to get a new one with all her info since it was stored in the iCloud. Phew!

Today mom and I saw The Secret Life of Pets. It was cute..except for the huge cat discrimination (the characters were always saying stuff like "cats are dumb, dogs are way smarter!") and the gang scene where the rabbit keeps talking about killing the main characters..America doesn't need that right now. The huge cat trying to sit in a tiny box was funny though lol

After the movie we went to Pioneer Park to catch Pokemon LOL (uh oh, even mom's playing now haha). I always feel self-conscious when playing, but a lot of other people were playing Pokemon too or geocaching lol. I helped one group with a tricky cache, and at a Pokestop a guy was like "caching Pokemon, yeah!" to us. I love how this game brings people of all ages together, and it makes walking to places (like work, since I've done it hundreds of times) less tedious. Someone knew what they were doing when they created it :P

So Saturday was Dana and Matt's wedding! Before the wedding, mom and I were determined to find more than one or two geocaches, or looking for one and not finding it (caching in such a busy place is hard! Especially when you have to figure out where to park). We ended up finding ELEVEN!! Heck yeahh. I think that's my third best day of caching (my second is 16 I think and my best is 20). That was satisfying lol. After that we got ready for the wedding. It was pretty much the best wedding ever..Dana looked perfect and gorgeous and just bursting with happiness. When the officiator was reading his notes both of them stood there looking at each other bursting with love and happiness. It was so awesome when they were finally pronounced man and wife!! They were made for each other. <3 After that was happy hour or something, or "standing around eating and talking" lol. Mom and I snuck up to our room to get a book since that's neither of our fortes lol. After that was dinner..I met Matt's mom and stepdad, the ones that live in Payson. None of us can get over how dad bought a house in the same town Matt's parents live haha. There was also a photobooth (fun! I'm gonna hang those pics on my fridge :D) and dancing. Mom and I hung back at first (we're the worst dancers ever, and shy lol) but when Uptown Funk came on (a great dancing song!) we decided to go up there. Might as well let loose and have fun! We might have been flailing more than dancing LOL, but whatever. Poor Dana was getting tired though (it was fun dancing with her too! She saw the rare side of me lol). Mom and I left around 11 and Dana said the party wound down around midnight. The Best Man and Maid of Honor made great speeches too, which were 100% true. It was a great night!! So happy they're finally married :D

Yesterday mom and I had to shop for wedding clothes..ugh, clothes are SO weird and ugly nowadays. D: We went to Macy's, when we probably should have gone to JcPenny instead (much cheaper)..oh well, next time. It took awhile, but thankfully we found something. After that we were just completely done with malls and crowds and noise and just wanted to relax at the hotel for awhile. I so prefer the slower less crowded pace of Alaska (and freeways are completely scary and stressful D:). We did that and then went for a walk by these parks and the ocean before it ~got dark~ (omg). THAT was much nicer than the stress of the mall, and we got three geocaches! (We got one at the mall too.) After that we just went back to the hotel

This morning I was looking for bookstores in San Diego, and found one that had cats! (Adams Avenue Book Store) I was like "YEP, we are going there today!" haha. So we did, and yay kitties!! Hehe. One didn't mind getting pet (and mom said when she sat in a chair she and the cat had a conversation haha), but after a minute the other cat put its paw up like it was gonna scratch me, so I had to stop. :( I'm glad the other cat liked to be pet lol. I found some books too, so that was cool. After that we went to the USS Midway, a decommissioned aircraft carrier turned into a museum. It was pretty cool! I've been on military ships before, but I think this was the first time going to an aircraft carrier. It was huge, like a floating city! We saw everything from the engine room, sick bay, post office, air traffic control area (mom loved that, of course lol), kitchen, bridge, etc. Cool place. After that we went to Dana and Matt's rehearsal dinner. They wanted an evening to just relax with the people that are closest to them (aww, honored <3). It was cool seeing people she talks about a lot, and seeing people I've met before too (like her parents..when I visited Dana when she lived in New Jersey we crossed the Delaware River into Pennsylvania and they always think of me when they go over that bridge..aww!). It was definitely nice, though planes flew over us like every 5 minutes, which was rather annoying (we much have been right under the flight path)..oh well. :P After that mom and I went into the Jacuzzi when we got back to the hotel since the evening was actually kinda chilly and we were tired of being cold lol. It definitely felt nice, and we got to see the fireworks from Sea World too (they're like practically across the street from the hotel lol). Long day!

Yay, Dana and Matt's wedding is tomorrow!! So exciteddd!! :D

Yesterday mom and I went kayaking down the Chena River with Bonnie and Jeanie (mom used to work with her). It was a nice day, though HOT, and everyone else in Fairbanks seemed to have the same idea as us haha. We floated from the Wendell St. Bridge to Pike's Landing, where we had 10 PM, but who cares, it doesn't get dark lol (I'm sure they get river traffic late like that all the felt more like 6 or 7 than 10 PM though!). I also found a geocache on an island, which obviously you need a boat to get to or wait for the river to freeze (I guess you could swim too, but that water's too cold for me :P). It was appropriately named "Pirate Denny's Last Stand"..I kinda felt like a pirate searching for treasure on an island haha. It was a lovely night..I love Fairbanks' summer days!!

Today is mom's 61st birthday! Lately it's been rainy and gloomy and bleh, but today is pretty much skies, low 70s, breezy..we had to find some geocaches, especially since mom was 5 away from 1000! The mosquitoes were intense, but it was so nice just to be outside on such a nice day! Mom indeed found her 1000th cache, woohoo! (I only got 4 since I had already found one of them, but that's alright lol.) Just as we were about to leave, the couple that hid the cache showed up! Oddly enough, it was his wife's birthday too, and they were going to get a drink at the nearby brewery. They thought it was awesome that one of their caches was mom's 1000th one hehe. We celebrated by getting pizza at Pizza Hut, yumm. I'm glad she had a great birthday, and I hope this awesome weather continues! (I've always been amused that mom's birthday is exactly a week after mine lol)

Yesterday mom and Bonnie and I drove up to Circle (around 156 miles north of Fairbanks). Mom and Bonnie are going on a float trip on the Yukon River out of Circle in July, and wanted to check it out (and they invited me cause they're awesome lol). It was funny..when mom and I drove to Birch Hill last week we passed the mileage sign for Circle..I was thinking "we should just randomly go there someday" and like two days later they were like "let's go to Circle!" Haha. It was COLD and SNOWING up at Eagle Summit!! Last week it was hot and in the 80s, this week it's in the 40s and!? There was still a lot of snow (like FEET of it) left over from Before Circle is a community called Central (not confusing at all :P) was pretty nice for a town in the middle of nowhere lol. Circle wasn't as nice, but it was still interesting to see it..though I felt like we were invading the town since it's so small lol (OH NOES OUTSIDERS). We looked in their grocery store, which was VERY interesting..the cashier was smoking and eating popcorn straight off the counter (O_o), the back desk looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in years, and there were tons of fliers and political stuff on the walls. We also checked out Circle Hot Springs, which for whatever reason closed some years ago. Too bad, it looked like a cool place! I wanted to explore, but I also didn't want to get shot :P (you never know, it's Alaska lol). Thankfully on the drive back it got pretty! Mom and I found 10 geocaches, and Bonnie found a couple more we already had..she now has over 1000 caches!! (The one cache in Circle was her thousandth lol.) I wanted to get 700, but there's only so much time..too bad, I just need one more! We actually found every cache we looked for, even ones that hadn't been found in months! That's pretty awesome lol. One cache was up this steep hill filled with dead trees and random undergrowth..we felt accomplished getting that one lol (my poor legs got scratched up though..geocaching battle scars lol). For wildlife, we saw birds, a grouse or ptarmigan, a couple bunnies, an ermine with a vole in its mouth, and a fox! Aww :)

On Sunday we drove to the start of the trail to the cabin..we were worried there wouldn't be enough snow on the trail since most of the way there was barely any snow at all. There were spots with no snow, but we managed. That hike was HARD..everyone kept postholing and falling over. Ingrid carried a heavy bundle of firewood a lot of the way since Bonnie's sled was so heavy..I was impressed, that thing was heavy and Ingrid's almost 70! It took us three hours to get to the was so nice getting in there and starting a fire and having dinner lol. That cabin has AMAZING views of the Alaska Range and is right near a was the perfect spot for a cabin! It was so hard sleeping..I was on the top bunk and it was SUPER hot and there was some snoring..

..buut we all made it to Monday morning, though none of us felt super great said she felt like she got run over by a truck (pulling that sled looked hard!!). We lazed around by the fire and had breakfast and then went for a hike..the mountains were SO's scenes like that which make me love Alaska. I'm surprised we didn't see any moose since there were lots of droppings around. Eventually I reached my limit so mom and I turned back..I'm always nervous hiking or geocaching with Bonnie since she never seems to want to stop lol. I think she and Ingrid hiked 6 miles, they were gone a long time! They saw caribou though, nice! I need to get in better shape said I did well anyway though. We got a text from Bonnie's friend Christine that she was gonna join us for the night..we played Apples to Apples while we waited for her..that game is so fun lol. She got there earlier than expected, probably because she wasn't pulling a sled lol. After she got there we had dinner..mmm pasta. After dinner everyone else played Yahtzee while I just lazed in bed lol (I hate Yahtzee, too many numbers and thinking lol). It was too hot on the top bunk again, so I moved down to mom's bunk (luckily there's room for two people!). We also opened the window for awhile, which helped. We didn't start the fire again, so I was too cold the rest of the happy medium I guess. :P Christine also snored like crazy..eventually I did sleep though

Today we had breakfast and then packed up and left..I was dreading the hike back, but it was soooo much easier than when we hiked was early enough (10:05) that the snow was thicker and there was pretty much no postholing (we saw our deep tracks from before though, poor us!! Haha). Those two miles took exactly an hour..we took a break and took pics by the Pipeline and then continued down, which took maybe 30 minutes. We were all glad it was so easy lol. We stopped in Delta Junction for food and then continued home..weirdly enough, we didn't stop for any geocaches (we did stop for one on the way up though). Taking a shower and a nap in my bed felt amazing lol. I'm glad I went, it was fun! It was nice to get home, but I usually still feel a pang of sadness returning to "real life" haha. I'll post pictures soon!

Tomorrow mom and I are going cabin camping with Bonnie and our new friend Ingrid (Bonnie knew Ingrid already). Ingrid lives in Tennessee but comes up a couple times a year to visit her son. Mom and Bonnie have done a lot of cabin camping recently (they got into it last year and have loved it since). This time I decided to go (I've always been invited, but I was waiting for it to get warmer). It's a three mile hike to get to the cabin, which is near the Alaska Range (mom and Bonnie have camped there before, and the pics she showed me were gorgeous). We're gonna stay two days and come back on Tuesday. I hope it'll be fun lol

Today mom and I saw Zootopia with Bonnie and her was good, and pretty funny. I always love the adult humor they put in kid's movies haha, like the obvious references to Breaking Bad and The Godfather. The little things were fun too, like the main character's cell phone service was called "PB&J" haha

Yay, I met Temple Grandin! I wish I had gotten a better picture, but she was really busy trying to sign other people's books and stuff. In her lecture she empathized that kids with autism need to get out and be exposed to things, not just stay inside playing video games or whatever. I thought it was cool she got to go dogsledding at the university haha..I hope she liked Alaska :)

Mom and Bonnie and I also found three geocaches at Creamer's Field and went to just a casual meet and greet event, since you got digital souvenirs for doing both of those things during Leap Day weekend and on Leap Day. It was fun, I missed our geocaching adventures lol

Except for Leonardo DiCaprio finally winning one, the Oscars were pretty terrible. Too many tasteless jokes :/

Yesterday mom and I watched the movie Temple Grandin, since Temple will be in Fairbanks next week. I was BAWLING all over mom after it was over haha. I wish I could post the ending scene here, but YouTube disabled embedding it for some reason. Here is part of what she said: "I'll always be autistic. My mother refused to believe that I wouldn't speak. And when I learned to speak, she made me go to school. And in school and at home, manners and rules were really important. They were pounded into me. I was lucky. All these things worked for me. Everyone worked hard to make sure that I was engaged. I mean, they knew I was different, but not less. You know, I had a gift. I could see the world in a new way. I could see details that other people were blind to. My mother pushed me to become self-sufficient. I worked summers at my aunt's ranch. I went to boarding school and college and those things... Those things were uncomfortable for me at first, but they helped me to open doors to new worlds"

OMG my experience was so similar and I was so happy someone else understood that I just couldn't help crying. Mom always knew I was different, but never treated me less or acted like I was a weirdo. I also see details other people are blind to..all the time I'm telling or asking mom if she saw something I did, but a lot of the time she says she doesn' seems weird to me since things like that stick out like crazy to me lol. Everyone (including myself) worked hard helping me as well..I couldn't have asked for a better mom. Temple said she would never not want to be autistic, and I feel the same way, even if it is stressful sometimes. I hope I'm able to talk to her and get a picture with her..she is amazing <3

Before going to the airport, everyone had time to have breakfast together. Susan said she was so happy to see us again and was crying when we had to say goodbye. She hugged me and told me I'm such a sweet girl. Mom said she wanted to stay longer by ourselves so we could geocache more and stuff..that would have been nice, but I couldn't really handle the sun and heat and humidity anymore lol. Mom and I did manage to find two geocaches on the way to the airport, which was nice. I guess nine total is better than none lol. Even if I was tired of the sun, it was still sad to leave lol. I hope there's less drama when I see everyone next time (yeah right :P). Thankfully the flight to Seattle was shorter than when we left from there, 5 hours and some minutes. This time I watched Avengers: Age of Ultron (OMG I love the humor in those movies haha) and National Treasure: Secret of the Tomb (LOL at the lady playing Candy Crush on her computer). We got back to Fairbanks pretty was nice to sleep lol

Here are more pics, though I haven't uploaded all of them yet:
